  • Here's their press release info:
OAKLAND, Calif. - The Athletics, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), and HNTB have unveiled the design for the A’s new ballpark project in Las Vegas on the Tropicana site. BIG will serve as the design lead and HNTB as the sports/hospitality designer and architect of record.
"The collaboration between BIG’s creativity and HNTB’s technical expertise allows for a truly innovative and bold design while ensuring an unmatched fan experience,” said Athletics Managing Partner and Owner John Fisher. “We hope to add to the dynamic atmosphere and liveliness of the Las Vegas Strip, creating a welcoming environment for all of Southern Nevada.”
Shaped by its location on the Las Vegas Strip, the 33,000-person capacity ballpark provides an outdoor feel with views of the city’s skyline. The tiered design will split upper and lower seating bowls to bring fans closer to the action than traditional ballparks and provide clear sight lines from every seat. The roof's five overlapping layers, whose design is inspired by traditional baseball pennants, open to the north to allow for natural light and views up the Strip, while also limiting direct sunlight and heat from the south. The outfield features the world’s largest cable-net glass window, facing the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Boulevards. The ballpark is currently designed to include an 18,000-square-foot jumbotron, which would make it the largest screen in MLB.
“Our design for the new Vegas home for the A’s is conceived in response to the unique culture and climate of the city,’” said Bjarke Ingels, Founder and Creative Director of BIG. “Five pennant arches enclose the ballpark - shading from the Nevada sun while opening to the soft daylight from the north. A giant window frames a majestic view of the life of the Strip and the iconic New York New York hotel skyline. All direct sunlight is blocked, while all the soft daylight is allowed to wash the field in natural light.
“The resultant architecture is like a spherical armadillo - shaped by the local climate - while opening and inviting the life of the Strip to enter and explore. In the city of spectacle, the A’s ‘armadillo’ is designed for passive shading and natural light - the architectural response to the Nevada climate generating a new kind of vernacular icon in Vegas.”
The ballpark will occupy nine acres of the 35-acre Tropicana site. Bally’s and GLPI are working on a master plan for a related resort development. The specifics of that process, including towers, locations, and phases will be determined in the coming months.
“We are excited to continue to collaborate with Bally’s and GLPI on this project. Together, we see a unique opportunity for this site and look forward to seeing this vision come to life,” said Fisher.
“The A's have created a remarkable design that adds to the rich fabric of must-see attractions in Las Vegas,” said Bally’s Chairman Soo Kim. “This is a once-in-a-generation project, and we are thrilled for the opportunity to develop a comprehensive site plan at this iconic location. We look forward to sharing more on our plan in due course.”
The ballpark plan supports up to 2,500 on-site parking spots, as well as a two- to three-acre plaza that starts in the northwest corner of the site and extends to the ballpark’s main concourse. The overall parking plan will be determined in partnership with Bally’s and GLPI. The A’s are also working with Clark County and NDOT on traffic and transportation plans to ensure easy access to the stadium and will work with the Regional Transportation Commission on additional services such as the express bus service currently provided for T-Mobile Arena and Allegiant Stadium. Not only will this ease congestion, but it will reduce emissions.
BIG will lead the master planning of the ballpark design, with HNTB collaborating on the design and serving as the architect of record. BIG previously presented a design for the team's Oakland ballpark, while HNTB was the architect for the Raiders' Allegiant Stadium.

It’s only a 33,000 seat stadium. A baseball field is about 4.5 acres so the other 4.5 acres will be the stands for the fans and the rest of the stadium. I’m sure the architects will figure it out. Target Field in Minnesota, the smallest MLB stadium footprint takes up about 8.5 acres of land.

John Fisher is a total MORON. Forget the things MLB and the MLBPA will never stand for, there is ZERO chance you're building that for $1.5 Billion, and it's highly suspect that John Fisher can even get that much financing.

I like the picture where the albino sand worm stadium appears to be eating Circus Circus. Of course, since the A's actual lot is only 9 acres (just a pinch bigger than the Bellagio fountain), to have this height, passengers/fans will have to be harnessed in and suspended from the walls. But not the giant TV wall that will be learing down on the players throughout the game. No issue there with losing sight of the ball. At least John Fisher will not have to pay A/C bills for this open air stadium, same way he won't pay for players. This is the dawning of the MLB's "Vegas Generals" - the team that is beat by all of the other globetrotting teams and somehow still has the worst (but new) ball park in baseball... Too bad the kids in Nevada won't be able to read all about it.

    1) Hard to tell if this is still within 9 acres. It does not appear to just be utilizing the back corner.
    2) It doesn't have the Bally's hotel, which apparently will consume the view of the Vegas strip. Bally's need to get some return on their investment through free advertising, rather than having a view of their competitor MGM.
    3) Not sure if there are any consequences of the windows and the lights coming from the stadium, which could be a safety hazard affecting the pilots navigating close to the LV airport.
Other than that, very nice design...as much as it hurts as an OAKLAND fan. But we shall see if this is realistic. It could just be to get the LV fans interested in the A's, since there seems to be very little interest of late. Similar to the unrealistic original renderings that fooled all their locals....got them excited during the public money vote....for the A's to shortly after getting their money approved saying there will be new and more true renderings coming at a later date.

You can already see the Las Vegas strip from outer space…. We knew we would hear airport “noise” coming from the Bay Area if it was a retractable roof but not a closed dome! The MGM embraced the new stadium…. It means millions of dollars to them…. The stadium is the actual corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd …. But other than that you nailed it!! 😂😂😂

These are still very misleading as the Tropicana is intentionally omitted. The only way for this project to make sense for Bally’s is to wrap their building around the stadium in the shape of an L on the northern and western sides of the lot. This would effectively give guests at the hotel a view of the roof without a view of the field, while fans would look through that glass to see…a building, or more specifically an up close and personal view of the Casino. And I think therein lies the point of this all. Every single A’s fan, Yankees fan, Dodgers fan, etc. will tune in to watch a game and be bombarded by this casino as a living, breathing advertisement all game long, every time there’s a fly ball, a home run or any view of the outfield, they get free air time. When fans want to go to Vegas for a weekend, this will be top of mind as a place to stay.
    I hate it.
I find the stadium decent, certainly the best looking indoor baseball stadium, but it’s just not very compelling.

  • @rayala21
    @rayala21 6 месяцев назад +2

If they can pull this off, this would be an amazing stadium.
A couple of questions though: will it be covered, eventually, by a casino? It’ll eventually sit behind a casino, right? And secondly, opening day -2028? Remember, it’s Fisher… I kinda doubt it

Always love architect-speak. A lot of word salad. The design though does look spectacular and if built would be a nice addition to the strip. It better be spectacular in order to get tourists to want to go to the games. That same architect designed an interesting looking project in NYC next door to the United Nations campus. It's six and a half acres so he does seem to be able to make big things fit in smallish spaces. I still don't see any hotel buildings and how it will all fit together. Time will tell.
