The opening sequence was so beautiful it made me cry. Thank you for your work Danny and for bringing sketchbooks to a wide audience. I once lived near Edith Holden’s home - bliss.
The intro to this film is a brilliant piece of editing, and the whole film is wonderful! I’ve only just discovered this channel, a couple of days ago. I’m a Brit now living in the USA, and I used to do life drawing but ended up doing a degree in photography in London. I have been so scared of starting to draw again after a 25 year break, but it’s been tugging at me that it might be nice. My whole ‘thing’ is my fascination with light and how things look photographed but drawing again will sharpen up my observation again, but it’s getting the hand/brain/eye co-ordination back that takes time, and getting past the being scared of the first making of marks on paper.
Oh! My! I went to your main page. I intend to watch a bunch of those videos. Thank you for having them there. I know videography takes time. My daughter just introduced me to your channel today. I am really excited about all this. This is something I am sure I will enjoy, and it fits me all around. Thank you.
As you flipped through the sketchbooks, their journals and art naturally made me smile. My sketchbooks are all messy, but I do dream of illustrating and writing something like this, like a zine one day. Interesting to note how neat they all are. Their handwritings are legible and I don’t see any mistakes or erasures there. It shows just how much care and meticulousness they’ve all poured in on those journals throughout the years they’ve kept them.
What a wonderful introduction! It makes you want to just grab a pen and a sketchbook and go into nature to draw. Edith Holden's book has always been a great favourite of mine. The drawing of the fawn was absolutely beautiful, thank you for sharing the process.
Hello Danny, I was thrilled to hear you talk about the book “The country diary of an Edwardian Lady” as I have it but it is the form of a Friends and Family Organiser, a book to fill with friends addresses, Birthdays, organiser, lots of pages at the back for writing notes and it is so beautiful. I did not want to write in it for a long time but I eventually thought what a beautiful book to see each and everyday. It is quite large for an address/birthday book and each page has one of her water colour paintings in it. Isabel
Beautiful sketchbooks, thanks for sharing these! My favourite is Charles F. Tunnicliffe, an artist who is mainly known for sketching birds. His sketchbooks are published and also still available.
Thanks for the mention, Danny! And I have both the first two books, have for ages...they're wonderful, aren't they! I have some of Richard Bell's too, just not that one...
hi danny, i have 'the country diary of an edwardian lady' and it's a lovely book. both of my parents love books so as kids we had a ton of inspirational literature to brouse through, one of my favourites was the 'readers digest book of british birds' from 1976, it's packed full of beautiful illustrations. ;) neil
The fishing that Muriel did in the book looks like most of it was done in Scotland. Indeed, there's a page where my family glen, Stratherrick, near Inverness is mentioned. Loch Farraline and Loch Garth that are also mentioned are in Stratherrick 🏴😃👍
The Lamy produces quite a thick line with the standard medium nib so I've always used the back of the nib to get a finer line. However, I've recently discovered you can (very easily) replace nibs in the Lamy pen, so I changed mine out. While watching this, I wondered if you had done the same so paused the video and saw that you had indeed swapped the medium for a fine. If anyone here finds the medium nib gives too thick a line, I'd recommend swapping it - you can also get 'extra fine' (and a broad nib if that's your bag).
Danny I been following you for a while and you’ve made some crazy stuff but this video takes the cake. Ahh were some designer drugs involved here? Just askin 😂 vid reminds me of the flower children from the 70’s cuz I’m 67 LOL

Wish I saw this video earlier. My dad would have enjoyed that fish book. He's been gone 7 years though so I still would have been too late

This is lovely, it makes me think of Beatrix Potter.
From Yorkshire 😊🇬🇧
Love the opening film, nice music!

The drawing of the fawn was absolutely beautiful, thank you for sharing the process.
Wonderful inspiration, making me reach for my own sketchbook which is what it is all about.
Incredible treasures Danny. I am a fly fisher and Urban Sketcher myself so naturally, I was fascinated by Muriel Foster's diary. Good stuff!

These were really interesting. I was aware of Richard Bell, but the other two were new to me. I love nature journals!
Thanks. I nearly skipped, the intro was over long. Glad I watched you showed me something new that I wouldn't have seen so subscribed.
Awesome . Sharing by Danny is wonderful!!
Lovely theme music, I love watching the victorian kitchen garden which the music came from
Muriel Foster's Fishing Diary is one of my favorite art books! I bought it a few years ago after seeing you talk about it. Thanks!
I adore this and it's my go to whenever I need inspiration to draw. I must have watched it 30+ times
Wonderful, thanks for the inspiration as always!

Danny - I am trying to reach you regarding Muriel C. Foster. I am working on a video documentary about her and would like to speak with you.
