Theme parks are good for first dates too, if you want to make a good first impression. The adrenaline and feel good chemicals you get from rollercoasters really makes you perceive the date in a good light (given the other person doesn't do something to make you feel unsafe or uncomfortable being with them). Not to mention holding/squeezing someone's hand on a scary rollercoaster can invoke feelings of love and safety.

My weirdest escape room story is somewhat anticlimactic, but pretty cool.
I tripped over a table near the middle of the room, (it was really dark) and me hitting the floor apparently was enough of an impact to shake the light fixture above me loose, it fell onto my back, and miraculously didn't break, an employee came in to check on me (apparently I screamed pretty loudly) but I was fine.
Got a discount on the room cause something out of our control broke.

Escape room designers should've made some safe colour of some sort. Tell the players that anything with this specific colour is not part of the puzzle and not to be tampered with.

But we still had time the display for the timer was just messed up. We might've gotten a little freaked out but pressed the button for staff instead of anything dumb and found out the dispay was messed up and continued the game. I recently went to escape room around Thanksgiving with my family. The escape was a horror escape room, which was supposed to be for people 13 or older because of how it terrified children. It even made kids cry of terror. My mother lied about my age (I am 12) and said I was 13. The game master didn’t even ask for confirmation. Anyway, back to the main thing I am going to get to. The story of the escape room was that you and your group foolishly decided to enter some old, worn down house. This house was haunted by a ghost of a child who had died before her natural age. To escape the room, you had to give the ghost’s amulet back to her. That would allow her to be freed from the house. During this, the actor spoke over the speakers wanting her to talk to her “best friend” in her room. So, we decided to pick out my aunt(?), who was higher than a kite. She had went in once we told her to. We overheard what seemed like yelling from the actor, directing my aunt to exit the room. My aunt quickly returned back to the room we were waiting for her in. We didn’t ask her what happened until after we escaped, but I’m unaware of what happened. Some other hilarious things were when we were in the second part, the actor kept throwing stuff around in the first room. We kept checking every time. This kept going until my half-sister asked why she was thrashing things around. The actor said she was just messing around. An additional thing that happened was that my half-sister kept being jumpscared by a rat in the cupboards when she was looking for ingredients required for a puzzle. We also had goofy interactions with the over-voicing actor, like us asking the actor for hints and just saying silly stuff. When we got a hint, my mom would always say “Thank you, Alice!” (Alice is the name of the ghost by the way.) The beginning of the escape room required us to close our eyes and chant, “Alice, Alice, Come and play,” three times. Once we had done this, we had to blow out a candle. This part was the scariest for me. One of the finishing parts needed two people to hold opposite ends of a wire to electrocute and finish the job of Alice’s father ridding of himself in the bath tub. For some reason I found this funny. Later, once we escaped, the actor and game master chatted with us for a while. They told us we were an amazing group and to come back again for a different room. My family and I had tons of fun doing this!

I went to an escape room for my brother’s birthday about a week ago. It was themed around an Elf on the Shelf, which had gone rogue, and we had to find him. They told us our end-goal was to find a key/card to scan on a card reader, but told us it could be an object. About 25 minutes in (we had an hour), one of my brother’s friends opened a lock (he later told us he had just been messing around with it), and out came the elf. My brother’s friends tried him on a scale, tried finding a code hidden on him, just about everything except scanning him to open the door, which they didn’t seem to think of. Since I had already done multiple escape rooms before, I figured we had broken the sequence, so I just played dumb. About 15 minutes later, when they ran out of options, my brother decided use the elf to open the door, and it worked.
The one girl managing the place (it was 8pm) ran to us in shock, since she had been watching us, and knew we barely done half the puzzles, and told us to go back in, and told us what we still needed to do. They were all dumbfounded that the elf had opened the door. I, on the other hand, just kept my mouth shut like I had before.

    My escape room stories
1.Me and 4 friends went to a local escape room place. We were in a ghostly mansion themed room and we were about halfway through when we reached a cabinet that had a five-letter lock on it ( L O S S U). We spent so much time on trying to figure it out that I just stood by the lock and another friend were reading off different combinations and it wasn’t till the last one I realized it was fucking SOULS and we all just started face palming. We also didn’t finish cause it took most of our time.
Same room, earlier my other friends got high and when one opened a box found a toy/prop revolver he started pointing it at us. We were just having some fun and playing along when he fired it another friend. He ducked and behind him was a picture and the imaginary bullet hit it and was actually part of the next clue. We all were laughing our asses off cause it was all by coincidence.
2.Me and 4 friends (two from #1) went to a different escape place and were put in small prison chambers. I was hoping not to placed by my high friend from story 1 cause we were supposed rely on our neighbors to get out and lo and behold we’re placed next to each other. It takes a few minutes, but somehow he gets a big brain moment and we are the first to get out of our cells.
In another room we were getting the run down by an employee when the speaker came on and a loud moaning noise is heard for a few seconds before cutting out. We all looked at each other confused when the speaker pops on again and an embarrassed employee says, “I didn’t know it was on.” The employee with us then just shakes his head and we heard a faint, “God dammit, Tim.” We laughed about it afterwards.

Not true, especially if you go in a group as everyone has different strengths 🙂 sometimes just noticing something and/or not overthinking puzzles are valuable skills in an escape room! 👍🏻

I KID YOU NOT, I leant on a wall to think, crossed my legs and fell through the wall as it swung open on a hinge. Funniest moment of my life.

So i was doing one with my family, and we escaped, but we couldn't find the futuristic gun, that was in the past and bring it back to the future, because well we were missing a code. Turns out the 8 year old (ME) was right, it was the wheels on the wall. I knew the code but nobody thought to check in with me. Suckers, I would've been the reason we got out. But they just blamed it on the fact that the fireplace was broekn. THE FIREPLACE HD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. 😭😂

I'm a pretty conscientious person and do my best not to mess with something i shouldn't or break a prop in an escape room, and even then I've broken things SEVERAL times. It's just easy to accidentally knock something off a desk and end up breaking it! I at least let the staff know when it happens, as embarrassing as it is.
I've also seen some escape rooms straight up put stickers on things that are just decoration and not part of puzzles to tell people not to mess with them, lol.

one time i was in an escape room and there was a weird box shaped shelf made out of clear plastic with a key inside it. there was a small hole in the bottom front part, barely big enough to stick my fingers in it (i have really small hands too) and very long. so, instead of leaving it or searching the room for a way to get the key out, i started punching the bottom of the shelf to move the key around and i got it so close to the hole that i managed to pull it out with my finger. apparently the right way to do that was sticking a piece of paper in the hole and sliding it under the key to get it out, but hey my team won, so i guess that sometimes violence is the answer.

Ok, this was pretty funny though. I was about 11 at the time. We were in Portland, OR and opened a room to a ball pit. I saw that there were balls stuck in a mechanism, so I started throwing them in thinking that if enough piled up, it would somehow open the lock. My sister who was older than I was, also joined. I didn’t remember if my dad did, but my mom did. We gave up and asked for a hint. When the game master came in, she said we weren’t the first family to do that. We got the bottom a good half full, but some families filled it up to the top, which is probably why some balls were stuck! The game master laughed about it, as we all did, and we were told the next clue was in the other room. We overlooked it and had to find it before continuing.
The escape room was Portlandio. We got pretty close to solving it but failed. The game master actually helped us escape after we ran out of time!

I’ll add my own story because it made the workers laugh.
Me and much of my extended family, around 15 people, were all in an escape room. In this room was a wall with a locked door and a glass window where you could see into the final room. We work our way through the main room and eventually find the key to the door, and my uncle grabs the keys and throws it across the room to a family member by the door, who promptly fails to catch it, and we all watch as the key *slides under the door.*
A worker ended up coming in and getting the key for us, but we ended up losing due to equipment not working. (There was a phone meant to give us a clue about a color, and we had to cut one of 4 colored wires at the end)

My best friend once did an escape room when she was 10, and there were plush monkeys on the wall, one boy started pulling them down, looking for a clue, but they weren't supposed to. The escape room master started repeating "don't pull the monkeys down!" But everyone heard, pull the monkeys down, including the adults. Poor man was so flustered

  • @theeightbithero

My first escape room was a western theme. They said if we could move something, it was part of the game.
We ripped the heavy real safe out of the wall and flipped it over to look for clues. We pulled the Piano apart because one of us knew how to put pianos together. We were trying to see if there were any clues under the keys.
We definitely overestimated how difficult the game was supposed to be. One of the players used trigonometry or something at one point to skip an entire clue which got us stuck at the very end because we missed a clue and had no idea where it was.

once i did an escape room where you had to figure out a radio frequency to get a code that opened a compartment. there were like 3 dials and they changed different dimensions of a line and i did it. apparently my dad had been struggling with it the whole time and when he gave up he started GUESSING THE CODE. he SUCCEEDED and i spent 3 minutes doing a puzzle for NOTHING. im still proud that he took like more than 5 minutes on a puzzle, gave up, and then i did it in 3 mins. ALSO one time i went to one set in a subway. the lights would go out at one point, only leaving a few things illuminated. there was one area that was clearly a puzzle that we hadn’t used yet by the time the lights were out. one girl i went with (knew her, but not very well. friend of a friend.) was wearing crocs, so was i. she had those little croc decorations. one of them was a flashlight. she decided to look at the puzzle in the dark and try and solve it until a worker came in like “hey if it’s in the dark you don’t need it right now. put that away plz”

I remember doing a puzzle very similar to the one you described by guessing as well. It was an 80s time travel themed escape room as far as I remember, and we didn't manage to escape in time. Most of the contributions I made to my group's efforts were either by accident or through me guessing.

Story 7: We once found a regular broom fairly early in a (scifi-themed) escape room, and didn't pay much attention to it. Until the end, where we needed to bridge two far-away contacts to short-circuit something. Literally the last puzzle. We went over everything again, took a lot of time, no further clues. Until we noticed that the broom had a metal handle and a plastic business end. Wedged it into the place we needed it...zapping sound, light effect, door open, room solved.

In Switzerland there is an Escape room where you need to get off a breaking down spaceship. In one room, once you manage to repair the intercom and TV, it tells you to do some sport. There is a baketball hoop, a stationary bicycle and I think a boxing machine, all connected with wires and stuff, to see if you actually do it. Turns out that has no function at all, you just need to look behind the TV where a key is located

Me and two friends went to an escape room for a birthday party. Our challenge was to wind up a circular wheel which would “power up an area” (just turn the crank to fill the lightning bolt until it’s completely lit up). Being stupid kids, somehow we came up with the joke that we needed to “piss”, since the bolt was yellow). Each time we failed and had to start over we yelled at whoever was turning the crank to “PISS HARDER”. I hope no one outside heard us.

One time we were running out of time in an escape room and we were close to the end. We finally figure out the final step and we escape. But we were greeted with a very confused set of staff, they didn't know how we just opened the escape door without solving the lock, and what's even more crazy we somehow skipped like 4 steps half way through, because one of my friends discovered the correct code to a door by looking at serial numbers on various props. The code he found was supposed to be found by solving three other codes.

One time my parents, sister, and I did an escape room. It was a tiny one, as it was made to be a festival attraction. Before we started, the operator told us that some objects had a “Do Not Touch” sign, so obviously they’re not important. We went through it all and got stuck because we couldn’t find the key to get out, so time ran out. Apparently we had technically finished it… the key was in a first aid kit with a “Do Not Touch” sign…

i had one of these moments, I was the player btw. There was a big loose piece of wall that was supposed to automatically lower down later on in the puzzle, but me and my other 12 year old friends knocked it over (it weighed around 100 pounds) then there was a puzzle where we had to stick wooden sticks in holes to open a drawer. we had the bright idea to roll up a piece of paper and stick it in there because we couldn't find the stick. It somehow worked. we did not end up escaping, but it was a hilarious experience overall
