I remember being in a horror-themed escape room, and while I was the one in my group who got the least scared, the stress meant that when I was using the radio to communicate with the host, I ended up using rigid textbook radio lingo. I hope she wasn't too annoyed with me.

Not an employee, participant. We tried to sacrifice one person to the "kidnapper" because he would not shut up about something that was irrelevant to the puzzle and was driving us crazy. We offered him for a clue.

The dads who would verbally abuse their kids during the Escape Room, are the same dads who will verbally abuse theirs and other's kids during little league games, and then end up in jail for picking a fist fight with someone.

I know a place that, at night, does a sort of IRL phasmophobia escape room across the entire building (multiple rooms and hallways) and there’s someone in a ghost costume that, if they tag you, you have to leave. No ifs, ands, or buts, you’re sitting the next 40 minutes out in your car in the parking lot.

My family broke an escape room employee once by bypassing half the clues. How? It was a chemistry-themed room and my sister (autistic) and I (frequent infodump recipient) knew all the information about chemical elements you were supposed to use the giant periodic table for and the names of a bunch of the scientists involved. Our parents just kind of became the clue holders and we'd be like "hey where's that Mercury magnet - no not Mo that's Molybdenum Mercury is Hg" 10 mins and 4 locked chests later

Me and my friends failed an escape room once purely because 3 of the codes didn't work. 3 of the things that let us progress simply didn't work and we had to get manual help which then took an extra 10 minutes to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it and let us keep going. Still incredibly fun, though a bit annoying afterwards when we learned even after all the screw ups we were on the final part

I was one of the weird participants. I did an excape room with some coworkers and my boss as a teambuilding event. We ended up being pretty good untill THAT puzzle. It was one of those classic problems where you have to split an 8 lt bottle into two amounts of 4 lt, but only have a 5 lt and a 3 lt bowl. No real problem, solved those several times in online adventure games and such. Only issue - the controls were really weird and we didn't get, that one could not only select right or left, but is also supposed to select a neutral position which meant we were rotating the virtual fluid represented by electronics in a loop for like 20 minutes, while my boss kept on insisting that using the controls gently would make the fluid go only to the next container and stopp the loop. Also he insisted on not calling for help. At the same time a third coworker and I solved the puzzle together on a piece of paper to be prepared for when our boss and the last teammember figure out the controls.
So when the guy watching us finally went in to interfere, I explained to him, that we actually have solved the puzzle, he only needed to enter the solution into the machine, as we just can't figure out how to do that. He then showed us the neutral position, we all grinched really hard and then my coworker and I solved the thing in less than a minute with our solution we already figured out.

I recall one puzzle that we failed terribly. We had to determine the flavour of three chocolates. Two were easy, but I was unable to name the last one. We had duplicates of the chocolates so a friend tried to name the flavour. They also failed. So the employees gave us some extras. More people tried and failed to identify the flavour. They ended up just giving us the awnser.

I was in this doctor-gone-bad themed room where we had to escape before the evil doctor caught us. When we were briefed beforehand, the employee specifically told us (me, my brother, his girlfriend, her best friend) that once we got through any doorway, we did not need to go back for ANYTHING. One part of the room required us to crawl through a fridge into the next room, however, the fridge couldn't be closed from our side, only the other side, and the employee would have to come into the room to close it so we didn't and couldn't go back through. Now I don't get scared, of anything. When there is a creepy noise in the house, I go investigate. Want someone to drive with you/drive you somewhere at night through a dodgy area? I'll go, despite being a woman. However, the other 3 people in my group were scared shitless in a fun way, at the prospect of being caught by the doctor. Anyways, the employee comes into the room to close the fridge, but in an attempt not to startle the players, she starts whistling to let them know someone was there. Well, this has the opposite effect, scares the other players in my group so badly that they shove me into the fridge crawl space we had just come through, hide behind me to use me as a human shield, and told me to fight whoever comes through that door. This threat becomes significantly more scary when you see me. I'm 6'1, visibly fit and strong, and at the time had black and red hair with a wraparound undercut, dressed in full techwear. Plainly put, I looked terrifying. I didn't end up needing to fight whoever was there, but when we made it out of the room (1 minute shy of breaking the record), the employee told me that she was actually scared I was going to hit her, because she heard them telling me to, and on the footage you can clearly see me getting ready to deck someone 🤣 bless her soul. I think after this they realized that sneaking in scares people just as much as ominously whistling does, and warn the players that at one point an employee will enter the room, and to not be scared. I still feel kinda bad for that.

My group and I were chained in a cell and needed the keys hung on the wall, on the other side of the room. The most important things to remember when doing an escape room; the room is designed so any type of people can solve it, and also the solutions are designed so they can be reset in 5 minutes. You will never need to climb or break anything, move anything heavy, or know niche knowledge, because it breaks one of these two rules

The other couple we were with, they tried to pull a clue out of a locked file cabinet, then the man literally unscrewed what I think was the lock on the file cabinet with a SPOON! The poor 20-something comes in and just stares at him dumbfounded. He had to bring in a drill to fix it while me and my partner were over in a corner having literally nothing to do with it lol. They changed the spiel to include not doing that as soon as we got out. 🤣
