A lot of those cases were staged. Someone pointed out to me once a guy who came in on two different episodes, two different cases, and with two different names.
As a lawyer, I have to say that zero of these are surprising. Relatedly: if you’re ever on a jury, try not to assume anything about the case based on whether the defendant testifies. Lots of lawyers will strongly recommend that their clients not testify, usually because they are probably going to say something dumb. Not even necessarily related to the case. People say all kinds of dumb things or have a hard time communicating well when they’re nervous.
It should be COMMON SENSE that a defendant should never be on the stand unless they are capable of 100%not incriminating themselves. Sadly, just like a jury should have 0% doubt a defendant committed the crimes in question to convict, it is nearly impossible to have that 100% certainty with the defendant.
Yeah, and completely innocent people also say things on the stand that make themselves look guilty even when they’re not. Or just make people mad at them, like the guy in one of these stories who ran his mouth to say something anti-Semitic. Very often not worth it.
Social media is not considered private information and can be requested for in discovery. If the entire package only lasted fifteen years, I could see why he would want more than that. After fifteen years when the money dries up, he still won't have a foot and won't really be able to work in the same industry.

I was involved in a car accident many decades ago. The insurance companies took the matter to court to see who was liable. The other driver claimed that he had a turn arrow and I had run a red light. I claimed that I had a green light. He also claimed that he was alone in the turning lane. I claimed that he was the third car in the turning lane and the first two cars had turned safely before I entered the intersection. He then proceeded to bring local traffic authority in as a witness, who then told the court that a turning arrow does not activate if there is only one car in the turning lane, and that car would have to wait for it to be safe from oncoming vehicles to turn. Completely shot himself in the foot. Couldn't have been the only car AND had a turning arrow.

Couple tips for if you’re going to use more bloons gameplay, turn off the tips, and get all your upgrades unlocked ahead of time. The strategy you use doesn’t matter much, as it’s just background content, but try to plan something ahead of time so you don’t end up clueless in the background footage.
"parte" in ex parte is pronounced like "partay" like you're going to party in the 90s and trying (and failing) to be cool about it. It means "from a party" meaning you meet the judge with only one side, away from the other side. It is almost always illegal, but with some specific exceptions, including the one in the case here. The exceptions aren't that rare, but you need to meet one or both the lawyer and the judge can get in trouble. And FOIA is usually pronounced, not spelled. Like "foy-yah." It's Freedom Of Information Act. In New York, they call it Freedom of Information Law, or FOIL, which is a better acronym.
isn’t it par-teh? because partay is the anglophone attempt at words they think are french but are latin in this case… and doesn’t it mean by or for one party?

Had we known that we might have been able to make it still work but as only the defense knew that we were ****ed when she got crossed on that.
God I wish we could. Two years ago I was working on a divorce where we were finishing the case by selling the house. We had gotten everything she wanted and just needed to sell the place. The day the realtor comes, we find out that our client had started breaking down walls in the place and spray painted the outside. Despite it being her idea, she now decided to start breaking the place just so her husband couldn’t have any money from the sale. She had refused an earlier option to keep the house, and now that she started destroying the place after agreeing to the sale, she owed him for any money lost on the sale due to the damage, which she also blamed us for. We had a perfect record for our clients that year until her

I find story 6 very interesting. 9 years for attempting to escape? That's alot. Here in Germany the wish for freedom is seen as a natural human desire and thus trying to escape from prison can not be punished. When you're cought you will simply be returned to prison to sit off the rest of your sentence with no further consequences.
Story 5- That sounds remarkably dense, but I use RFID scanners to find items at my job, and one of the older ones completely stopped working. I, of course, put it in the "not working" bin with a tag that said /that/ it was not working, and outlined (in writing) /how/ it wasn't working. Someone else took it out, took off the tag, and put it back with the "working" equipment. I had to repeat this several times over the course of months before people realized "wow, this thing literally does not turn on. I should leave it in the 'Not Working' bin." I can only imagine what would happen if it weren't a hand-held radio transponder, basically, and something that could actually do damage instead. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
I can somewhat understand this. I call it the "Causes Cancer in California" effect. Overlabelling or overcautious regulations can sometimes desensitize people to warnings. That said, you should ask _why_ the label was added in individual cases, especially around dangerous equipment

Trying to escape from prison shouldn't get you more years. Its human nature, and a part of the most basic of human rights. Any sane person would dream of escape
Whoever does these scripts needs to slow down. In a court story with circumstantial evidence where you’ve named the characters “D1, D2, D3” and D1 and 3 are halves of a couple who planned and committed a murder, it’s very important you don’t slip up and say, “we returned a not guilty for D1.” When you’ve just explained why it’s D2 who couldn’t be guilty due to burden of proof. Either take a second and reread these things, or give them full names. You guys make these mistakes way too often, and you’re getting paid too much to make them. The content is made by someone else for you, you’re compiling, editing, and reading them. So maybe we ought to do a good job on the editing and reading parts.
I've been thinking similar, since I watch the captions and the captions don't match sometimes, which is weird, because if they are reading a reddit story, all they have to do is copy and paste, but it looks a little like they are dictating that part

Personal injury jury trial that I witnessed. Plaintiff (injured party) was an attorney and decided to represent himself. Went as far as to quote “The man who represents himself has a fool for a client” to the jury. He stated that he was going to prove that quote wrong. An associate turned to me and said “this is going to be good….” He left to go back to work, but I stayed. Less than five minutes into his testimony, he said something that the jury was obviously not allowed to hear. Judge had a sidebar with the attorneys. Shortly after, I returned to my friend who said: “Decided not to stay?” My response: “Mistrial in record time!” Moral of the story: If you find yourself in court, never represent yourself.😂
We had a defendant show up at our office and call us multiple times to complain to us about the case our client - the Plaintiff - filed against her. I felt really bad for her attorney
Not a court case, but I worked with law enforcement for a while. One time before a concert the deputies were providing security for, a man walked up to the fully-uniformed officer I was chatting with and asked if he wanted to buy any drugs. We just looked at him in shock, and the guy paused before blinking and saying "Oh shit... are you the cops!?" Again, full uniform, walkie talkie, gun, badge, the works.
Not a lawyer but have been to court a few times. One time when my daughter was dealing with the state because she refused to do anything she didn’t want to, I went to court for a mid morning appointment and the place was totally backed up. I went in and the bailiff told me to take a cup and go to the restroom. There was someone there who walked us through what was needed and then we were told to go sit in the lobby until they got the testing done and then we would be called in as soon as possible. There’s about 25 people sitting in the lobby talking and we stopped the bailiff as he went by and asked him what was going on. He said all he knew was that the Judge had said that anyone going into juvenile court that day had to pee in a cup first and it was within his rights to do that. I’m sitting there waiting patiently when this lady comes in with a girl that looked about 6 years old with a cast on her arm. There is a lawyer type with them and a deputy so I’m thinking ok the plot thickens. Then this guy comes in that looks like he’s even failed at being a failure. The deputy gets between the lady and him and the bailiff tries to give him a cup and the guy goes crazy. They can’t make him do another test, it’s not fair, why him, you better believe when he gets here his lawyer is going to hear about this etc. The bailiff explained that everyone was being tested today, the judge could do that and as long as everybody going before the bench was tested there was no infringement of anybody’s rights. After 20 minutes or so of loud talking the bailiff said take the test and shut up or leave now while you can. After he left my lawyer leaned over and real quiet said now he knew why the drug test was being done. The other one that sticks in my mind is when my nephew was on trial for a variety of things but originally the most important one was contributing to the delinquency of a minor with his facebook page being the main part of the prosecutions case. He actually told the court that they shouldn’t be allowed to use the public access part of his account against him in court.

Story 16: I used to work overnight shift at the one 24 hour gas station in a small town. It was directly across the street from the most popular bar. Town cops would do things like grab people walking out the doors of the bar, shove them in the back of the squad car then drive the arrestee's car around the block a few times and claim it was them. Small town cops will do some shady stuff to hit their DUI arrest quotas it's disgusting.
I knew someone that did that very stupidly funny thing of wearing the same clothing he wore during the crime, to court. It was something SUPER recognizable. I swear I'm not making this up. It was a jersey, like a sports one, that he had custom made to have HIS NAME ON THE BACK! He thought he was gangsta, and wore it to court. It was the baseball type one where it was short sleeved, and buttoned up in the front. He robbed a house that had cameras inside lol Also, I know MANY people that have gone to court wearing shirts, pants, shoes, jewelry or other things, that were pot leaves, 420 numbers, in the shape of joins and blunts, and so on, who were there for drug charges, and were baffled that they were not believed when they said they weren't smoking weed or whatever else.
It's unbelievable how some people ruin their own cases due to ego and lack of control. From witnesses overacting to clients making foolish statements online, it's frustrating for lawyers. Why can't people just follow professional advice? Have you ever faced a similar situation in your life or work?
My mom’s friend. Her client attacked a woman and the video went pretty viral. Not only was it on video, but the client then went on Dr. Phil to talk about the event. A little advice for you, if you want a jury to hear you out, don’t go on national tv and talk about it.

My dad got sued by some random pizza delivery driver for seven figures claiming he didn’t salt or shovel the sidewalk or driveway. Well, the guys ambulance chaser didn’t realize that the church behind our house has our whole driveway and sidewalk was on camera, not to mention my mom and sister were severely lactose intolerant so we really never ordered pizza growing up. He literally just picked our house at random. Judge threw out the case after the tape of the night(s) in question were played in court. Then he referred the guy to the DA to be investigated for insurance, workman’s comp, and disability fraud, and he had to pay my dad’s attorney fees.
I did a pro bono divorce for a woman in an underprivileged community who was being dv'd. I draft all documents and was so excited as it was my first pro bono. The Gas Can Guy said he didn't have any money, but would sell thema pound of weed to them. This was in the early 1990,s. Mr. Gas Can Guy got arrested for possesion, attempting to sell, and, cue the laugh track, felony stupid, since Mark's crew wer all wearing DEA equipment.

I'm not an attorney but I'm a paralegal. This wasn't our client, we were defending the property owner. The plaintiff was claiming a back injury due to slipping and falling on ice in the driveway of a private homeowner. The plaintiff was going door to door trying to convert people to his religion and did not have permission to even be on the private property at the time of the injury, there were no witnesses, no medical records and he had to open a closed gate to get on the property. The closed gate is important because it was a barrier to the danger that was crossed without permission. All of that was already in our favor, but the smoking gun was that this "severely injured" plaintiff posted a video of himself to his RUclips, Facebook and Instagram. In the video he was competing in a line dancing competition.... exactly 4 hours after the alleged injury. It was up on his page for months and I found it very easily during the discovery process. The good news is he won the competition, the not so good news is the judge wound up throwing out his case for filling a frivolous lawsuit.

I wonder if the authority was asked to come in and knew it’s was time to bury the guy.
Ohhhhh bloons gameplay!!! Nostalgia unlocked. Game sense activated.
We have had 3 teachers during my time in primary school. 2 for CP and 1 for drug smuggeling. One of the CP teachers tried to corner my sister in the sports equipment shed and because he was one of the 'boys' amung the teachers nothing was done about it until YEARS later when another student found pictures the teacher had taken on an ipad.
...What, exactly, was it about that bailiff that would _possibly_ have given anyone the notion that he was dealing _in open court_ ? 🤦🏻
I'm guessing the bailiff had some drugs that were being used as evidence.
Thanks for the lesson on parte, I've heard the word but didn't know that was how it was spelled. I truly found it interesting 😊😊
(20:03) Also, "Appellate" is pronounced "Ah-PELL-it," not "Apple-eight."
isn’t it par-teh? because partay is the anglophone attempt at words they think are french but are latin in this case… and doesn’t it mean by or for one party?
1:08 This reminds me of the statement just because you have the right to remain silent does not mean you have the ability too as well. I think the more more modern version of this is stop posting evidence of your crimes on the internet.
Story 14. Guy probably thought prison would be a break from his wife.
Not a client, just a witness but was basically the one we were arguing for: never told us that all her medical notes were just taken from a boiler plate sheet and the client had never tried any of the other devices. Had we known that we might have been able to make it still work but as only the defense knew that we were ****ed when she got crossed on that.
can lawyers not put on their records "only lost cos client was a fucktard" to clarify they're not a bad lawyer haha
We had a perfect record for our clients that year until her
@@DrFunkman this sounds like a great situation for this option, perhaps in a more uh....company correct phrasing such as "case failed due to client actions" so that people dont get all bent out of shape about the wording haha
When it comes to civil suits, part of being a good attorney is knowing when to not work with a prospective client.
Nope. It can be heavily implied in the case notes, though
@@locktock9 Yeah it's less about the emotions in hindsight and more about "maybe don't refer to past clients as slurs if you want future clients to trust you"
Even putting aside any moral implications, it's just a smart thing to appear as accepting as possible... unless you want clients looking for someone really cutthroat

Fuck yeah! Idk why, but lawyers are my favorite subject of ask Reddit threads, and having my favorite narrator reading makes it even better :)
That sigh is fucking stupid.
Story 18: how is anyone THAT stupid?! And stubborn!
Dude was thinking with the wrong head.
Yknow for future reference itd be cool if the game being played was in the description. Like I know this BTD6 but a lot of other games here? Not a clue

These stories are absolutely wild! It's hard to believe the crazy things people do to sabotage their own cases. The one where the guy confessed to a murder he didn't commit just to look tough is mind-blowing. Thanks for sharing these hilarious and shocking courtroom moments!
Anyone else just judging the inefficiency of the BTD monkies?
You know it’s bad if the Jury asks if they still have to leave the room
Trying to escape from prison shouldn't get you more years.
Its human nature, and a part of the most basic of human rights. Any sane person would dream of escape
Am I the only one who appreciates BTD being played in the background?
Agreed. While you're reviewing the way you present your text:
Please put at least five seconds' worth of text on the screen each time so that the viewer can pause the video and step through it five seconds at a time.
All of these people need to learn that in court EVERY DAY is shut the f*** up friday. If your lawyer tells you to shut up DO IT.
weird to be listening to this video, tab out of Bloons TD6 only to see you, reading these posts, also playing bloons TD6 by sheer coincidence
God, I love narrated reddit stories, not those robovoiced ones.
Great to hear real emotions
holy bloons
Not a court case, but I worked with law enforcement for a while. One time before a concert the deputies were providing security for, a man walked up to the fully-uniformed officer I was chatting with and asked if he wanted to buy any drugs. We just looked at him in shock, and the guy paused before blinking and saying "Oh shit... are you the cops!?"
Again, full uniform, walkie talkie, gun, badge, the works.
Ah a man of quality. Btd 6 gameplay. Straight top tier.
"only two bottles of wine" is crazy
The guy in story 51 sounds like a pimp named slickback from the boondocks.

Crazy seeing BTD6 gameplay on this channel. Very welcome.
Eh... The games been dead for a long time.
I put about 100 hours into it and black bordered all available maps but like three.
I haven't bothered playing again because I had unlocked or beaten everything available.
Unless there was some major updates like this year, the games old as shit and tired.

19:11 The JURY was convicted? Wow, didn't see that one coming.
Story 58: I said "of course, your honor, I'll be more than happy to move that fence 😁"😂😂😂
Love these longer videos.
Story 34:
Isn't that coaching? Something super illegal?
I knew someone that did that very stupidly funny thing of wearing the same clothing he wore during the crime, to court. It was something SUPER recognizable. I swear I'm not making this up. It was a jersey, like a sports one, that he had custom made to have HIS NAME ON THE BACK! He thought he was gangsta, and wore it to court. It was the baseball type one where it was short sleeved, and buttoned up in the front. He robbed a house that had cameras inside lol
Also, I know MANY people that have gone to court wearing shirts, pants, shoes, jewelry or other things, that were pot leaves, 420 numbers, in the shape of joins and blunts, and so on, who were there for drug charges, and were baffled that they were not believed when they said they weren't smoking weed or whatever else.

These Reddit stories are wild! I’ve got a few up on my channel too if you wanna check them out!
It's unbelievable how some people ruin their own cases due to ego and lack of control. From witnesses overacting to clients making foolish statements online, it's frustrating for lawyers. Why can't people just follow professional advice? Have you ever faced a similar situation in your life or work?
14:25 I will say though, if the grooming thing is true in this case the guy is still worse. He groomed a minor, so probably is the manipulator still
pro BTD tip. Don't put everything all in one spot. attacks get wasted and once they get through the main "towers" you're pretty much sol.
For the last story, I can only think they wanted to get some street cred, as in "We killed someone, so don't mess with us."
My mom’s friend. Her client attacked a woman and the video went pretty viral. Not only was it on video, but the client then went on Dr. Phil to talk about the event.
A little advice for you, if you want a jury to hear you out, don’t go on national tv and talk about it.
The debt collector one was crazy, but not surprising.
Imagine your employer just offering to pay you like a proper employee for 15 years, with medical, without actually having to work, for your own negligence and you decide "aw yeah time to ring them out".

In front of the judge, the woman basically says she loves her husband and am being nosy. I went back to my office and cried. Never did another pro bono since
