  • Joe Bonamassa performs "Five Spot Blues" by Thelonius Monk LIVE at the Bitter End in NYC on Tuesday December 5 with Oz Noy (guitar), Will Lee (bass) and Steve Ferrone (drums).
Bonamassa begins with a burning solo that lasts for 1 minute 6 seconds. On this scorcher, Joe played one of his vintage 1959 Fender Stratocasters through a Fender twin amp.
Oz Noy follows with a great jazzy blues solo where he uses a good amount of chromaticism.
Five pot Blues is the 4th song off of "Monk's Dream", an album by jazz pianist Thelonious Monk, released by Columbia Records in March 1963. It was Monk's first album for Columbia.
This is the 12th installment of my "Great Performances" series, where I upload my own personal LIVE footage from past concerts of great musical artists I've covered either through written articles and/or direct interviews.
This was billed by the Bitter End as Oz Noy, with Joe Bonamassa, Will Lee, and Steve Ferrone.
    This band featured:
    Joe Bonamassa - Guitars, vocals
    Oz Noy - Guitars, vocals
    Will Lee - Bass, vocals
    Steve Ferrone - Drums
Check out my upcoming article about this great show in the Village View in January. I will add a link to the article HERE when it comes out in early January.

I love joe b but yeah those blazing pentatonics get a tad samey after a couple choruses. Oz is a monster.

I do agree Oz's playing and soloing was more interesting for this song. Check out Joe's guitar solo on "Little Wing" on this channel.

@@radjet I will for sure don’t get me wrong. I love Joe!
the stuff he did with Scary Pockets on his SG was awesome. He blew that session away with those solos. but I’ll check that out too. Thanks for the tip.

Joe's playing never gets old in my book. The other guy sounded like an old and tired player. Joe's speed and precision is unmatched in blues parlance. BTW fellas, this stuff is 100% subjective, so your opinion is equally as relevant as mine. I don't claim otherwise. The big miss, not thanking the guy who uploaded this. Thank you, this was amazing to watch

And that's a difference between a blues player and a jazz player

I do agree Oz's jazz blues playing was more interesting here. Joe is much more in his element on "Little Wing" and "Crossroads", you can watch both videos on this channel.
