    FAT tells the far-fetched but completely true history of how our country became so unhealthy. In 1970, just over 1. 5 million people had been diagnosed with Diabetes in the United States. Now over 30 million have Diabetes. What's even more alarming is that 100 million people, 1 in 3, have Diabetes or are Pre-Diabetic. This is not to mention the 40% of the population that are obese. How is this possible with the non-stop flow of new diets, exercise machines and our general obsession with health and weight loss?
    We're as unhealthy as ever. The truth is that we have pretty much had everything completely upside-down and backwards.
    FAT traces a detailed history spanning 150 years to show how misinformation and outright lies have become "truth.

      This video shares an awful lot of content and interviews with previous productions like Fat: A Documentary 1 & 2 which I see are linked in the show notes. Not sure this one adds any value to the healthscape. What would be nice is if someone put together something that includes actual new information, even if only N = 1 testimonials from people healed by changing their diet. Tired of hearing about the Hadza, the Inuits, Ellen White, John Kellogg. Those of us in the keto and animal based communities need a fresh playbook with more evidence-based science citations.

      You really should state type 2 diabetes if that is what you are talking about. It is a completely different disease than type 1.

      @danamania150 Well thank you for telling me that! I guess I will stand corrected if repackaging is getting the info in front of new eyes. There is another grassroots film in the works called Healing Humanity that I have high hopes for with regard to presenting new data and new specialists from the scientific and medical communities. Hopefully releasing next year. Glad to hear that you found this production interesting!

    I was 495lbs couldn't lose weight despite eating what my doctor told me. I didn't cheat, at best I could lose 10-15lbs and then it would stall. I was type-2 diabetic, high triglycerides / cholesterol and I was a walking heart attack with 2 partially clogged arteries. I was on the list to have Gastric Bypass surgery but because I was so high risk they wouldn't do the surgery unless I had lost 80lbs first. Imagine that, too fat to have life saving surgery to help me fix my fat. That is when I started doing my own research and found a ton of people online that had similar situations as mine that lost a ton of weight by going ultra Low-carb high fat (good fats) Keto. I thought well I got nothing to lose so I tried it. To my surprise I lost 30lbs (mostly water weight in the first week) and then week after week I kept losing weight. By the first month I wasn't hungry any longer and kept losing weight despite not counting calories. After the first couple of months I didn't feel the need to eat more than once a day because I just wasn't hungry and I kept losing weight. It was like magic. My blood glucose also had improved so much in the first month that I no longer needed my Metformin Type-2 Diabetes medication any longer and my Triglycerides had normalized. I still had high LDL cholesterol but this had showed improvement. After the first year I had dropped over 100lbs and had come off all my medications because I didn't need them any longer. By year 2 I had ended up at a normal body weight and still off all my medications. I did all this with 0 exercise other than walking because I couldn't do more than that with my bad back. Fast forward almost 7 years I've kept the weight off, the health problems have not come back and I still only eat once a day. I do allow myself a little more carbs than I was doing at the beginning (20grams of carbs a day, now I'm at 50grams). But it's definitely what we are eating that is killing us. Carbs to the body is nothing more than Glucose and we have been lead to believe that we NEED to be eating a tremendous amount of carbs for energy when it's simply not true. The brain is the only organ in the body that needs glucose to function, the rest of your organs will happily run off ketones and even if you didn't consume a single carb your body would make the glucose necessary for the brain from Ketones and fat stores in the liver. So stop with the breads, starches, pasta, rice, potatoes, grains and start eating non-processed meats and vegetables. Also I don't consume any fruit other than low carb berries because it all turns to glucose in the blood and the body stores it all as fat and it all adds to the glycemic load which creates insulin resistance leading to future fat storage. The choice is yours folks... Keep eating the lies they have been telling us. (Fats are bad, carbs are good) or do like I did and throw that all out the window and see the change you want to see!

It pains me to see all the medical advice that is so wrong for those in your video and for people like me who were literally dying from it.       @@CedroCron Diet IS extremely important. While it can’t cure all things, one can avoid many diseases by eating right and moving ie doing whatever exercise you can.

      @@ENDEVRDocs I have a spinal cord injury that has left me with chronic daily pain and paralysis from the waist down, so I agree that Diet won't fix that for me, but it can fix a lot of what ails us in other areas. Sorry if it seemed like I was being too encompassing in my comments, it wasn't my intent.

    For those that think that a Keto or Carnivore should be monitored, I think a person who drinks sugar drinks, eats cake and icing and breakfast sugary cereals and processed foods that have ingredients that I cant say or know, should be monitored.

      Lot of "keto people" goes often to carnivore diet. Fatty red meat is good, but RAW fatty read meat is better.

      @@m33265 true, I always had good success with keto but never could sustain it because I hated the amount of vegetables I was supposed to eat.
      Went carnivore... So easy, I enjoy this way of eating and even more health benefits than on a ketogenic diet.

It encapsulates everything I've been shouting from the rooftops for some time, and should be required viewing ...with encouragement- by any and all you love or care about.     EVERYONE PLEASE SHARE THIS VIDEO! I was so addicted to sugar! Diagnosed with major depression and cancer. When I found out that they inject glucose during a PET scan because it “sticks to” malignant tumors, I cut out sugar and processed foods. There was a withdrawal period for sure. I do eat berries because personally, it wouldn’t be sustainable for me without something slightly sweet after a meal. I was treated at a major cancer center and no one ever told me to limit sugar/carbs. Good luck, everyone!🌈

      Protein have biggest thermic effect from all macro nutrients. If you eat a lof of protein and majority of people doesnt know and care how much protein they eat in a day and how much they have to, this energy from proteins you eat takes about 25 pct of this energy to even metabolise this protein. So eating some fruit after protein meal is not bad idea to give body some fast energy to help burn this protein. Better choice is to eat more fat instead sugar, fructose or starch, all ends in blood as higher glucose. Cancer hates ketones and fatty acids as fuel. People needs exact ZERO exogenous carbs (from meal or dinks) every day. Gluconeogenesis can make enough glucose for body from proteins. Excessive glucose in blood is reason why insulin is taking this glucose above base line immediatelly out of blood, dont belogs there. Excessive blood glucose binds to everything, red blood cells, aminoacids, fatty acids, changing their structure, it causes lot of problems in their digestion. And harms micro vessels, reason of diabetic foot or diabetic blindness if this blood glucose is out of control.

      @@sw6118 It is hard. You’re right. That’s where your own personal common sense kicks in. And listen to your body. One does find overlaps of what’s good for you what’s not. I think we can all agree that processed packaged foods are generally mostly crap. If you can’t pronounce the individual ingredients there’s a good chance it’s not good for us. Less is more and good quality stuff. No imitations “i can’t believe it’s not butter” stuff. Eat real food and if one loves meat, try to get meat that is ethically sourced. It’s more expensive but it is also better for you. We like easy we like simple. Because we’re used to it. Eating well means being informed. And that’s okay.

      Yup. People blame big pharma and for profit medical systems, while those are problematic, the real issue starts at home. I have NO ONE to blame but myself for how much I eat and exercise (as an able-bodied person). People want a quick fix vs take control of their problems because they'd have to admit to themselves they are the issue.

      @@toni4729 Been trying for a year to get my mom off that garbage. I think she's having a lot of side effects from it. Her GP said she was old enough to get off of it because she has no build up. Basically she will not live long enough for build up to occur. But of course she wants to wait to see what the heart doctors says 🤦

      And yet people in the blue zones (very geographically and ethnically diverse, so genes can't be a factor) eat diets that are two-thirds complex carbohydrates. Note the "complex" bit. They eat few or no UPFs, eat fresh, local food cooked at home, don't overeat, and enjoy their food slowly in company. The Inuit, by the way, suffered badly from osteoporosis (calcium leaching from bones to buffer the acidic effect of animal protein) and did not live long, though other factors were at play (accidents, etc.).

    I am probably one of the few people to admittedly dislike or not care for "sweets" from my mid-20's until present. I used to LOVE candy, sugar, pop, pop tarts, cupcakes, anything chocolate, etc, etc. Like I would eat as much as i could as often as I could and then my passion for most sweets went away. I've never been overweight or unhealthy, in fact I'm on the low end of the healthy BMI range because I'm too thin despite having a healthy appetite. But for some reason, I stopped caring for dessert and started eating extra portions of meat and potatoes. Now i DO still love chocolate but prefer dark, semi or unsweetened. Sweets still taste good to me but my body doesn't "crave" it and if you offered me the choice between a well cooked porkchop or a chocolate cupcake, I'll take the porkchop EVERYTIME. Your body will tell you what it likes and what is good for it IF you can overcome your sugar or caffeine addictions. A close friend of mine was addicted to aspartame for YEARS and when she finally quit drinking diet soda and broke the addiction, she lost a lot of weight, stopped having migraines and insomnia. The body is a miracle machine and if you give it the right fuel, it will run on peak performance with little to no break downs.

      Hi there, I could just say 'ditto' ! Except for me, it was ice-cream. I eat once a day, anything I want. But now, when I am hungry, I want real food, not ice-cream or Reeses. I've lost 63 pounds, but slowly and consistently. I think that's key.

      I love my 🍦 so much, I bought 1/2 gallon every week. And one can put on lots of weight 😢
      But I found out that there is healthier way to have 🍦. Without all the carbs and sugar 🎉. Carnivore 🍨
      I bought a ice cream 🍦 maker (you can also make it without one, takes alot longer to freeze, compared to 20 minutes in a maker)😊

    Please don't hate me or respond with nasty messages...common sense works. What worked for me...I am 5'6 and started at 213. Low fat options and portion control were key for me, with exercise. I hardly eat any fast food anymore, but still eat healthy at home. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Texan and love my barbecue and Tex-Mex, but only occasionally. Still, portion control is number one for me. P.S...I've been down to 118 for many years now!

      Weight loss is not about counting calories or portion controls. You may eat to full satiety, but you must eat right food, real food, complex food. Your body is made from red meat, same red meat as animals have, your storage fat is animal fat, so if your body goes out of energy, you start burning "bad animal fat", your own fat even if you are vegan making this animal fat from plants. So being hungry vegan means still eating animal fat. Nothing is bad on animal fat, its nonsense, same as animal cholesterol. Your liver made it, if you eat for example eggs full of dietary cholesterol, your liver have much easier work, because they can rest and use this dietary cholesterol instead. If you have zero dietary cholesterol and dont eat enough substances to make this cholesterol by liver, you are in health (especially brain, Alzheimer etc.) danger, same as using statins. You can loose weight by eating 5000 calories a day and do ZERO excercise, weight loss is about nourishing your body, insulin under control (thanks fat), because weight loss is all about burning fat - storage fat or fat from your diet, so you must learn your body again how to burn fat. Counting calories may lead to malnutrition, being lean doesnt mean being healthy, short time malnutrition may not be problem, long time is. And your good or bad dietary choice you will see 20 years from now.

      Thats right! We live in 21 century where we dont have to eat a lot because we dont loose a lot of energy. Its the key - just eat less and eat healthy. Thats all! I know what im talking about - after first child i was 86 kg and my height only 158 cm, its too much for short person like me and i didnt like what i saw in the mirror. So i just stopped eat a lot and i lost weight very quick. 3-5 days and it will be normal to eat less, the first 3_5 days are the worst because food is like narcotic

      A lot depends on your heredity. If some eating pattern is unhealthy, that will result in a higher percentage of people getting long-term ill effects. But others can tolerate this diet.

      @@kaakrepwhatever Learn what body really needs. 9 basic amino acids, some fatty acids, minerals, vitamins, protein, fat. Water. Then look on fatty beef steak. People have evolved on eating organs of animals, gets bigger brain. And therefore gorilla is today sitting in ZOO watching people going around chewing very low nutrient dense leafs, and of course have much longer digestive system to survive this fact. But if you think you are vegan, good luck to you.

    When I was a teenager I took on a job as carer earning very little income. I would steal cabbages, brussel sprouts, potatoes from fields walking home from work and boil them with a little butter as my main source of nutrition. Now at 73 I still crave vegetables with every meal, always been healthy and a perfect weight. I would certainly not generate income in a country like the US with that mindset!!

    One of my great aunts bless her heart, lost both legs from some disease called diabetes. I was young, no one talked about this disease. You rarely heard about it in the news yet, in the 'hood, many of my people were suffering.
    Now, granted, she liked her whiskey - didnt know that all she had to do was stop drinking and change her diet. She wasn't obese at all. Her doctor prescribed the same thing to all his Black , low-income patients - absolutely nothing. I miss her.
    She had totally changed after losing the first leg - quiet, sad, unresponsive. We had to move her out of the house into some rehab facility. Her life was limiting. Within 2 years, they had to take the second one. She finally stopped drinking. In a year, she was gone.
    It still burns me up that the healthcare industry did nothing to save her life and she didn't know what to do to save it on her own.

      @salemdesigns65 It is very sad that most doctors are not practicing *_preventative care_* to sustain the healthy lives of their patients. It is as if they intentionally *_allow_* their patients to become sick(er), so that they may *pump them full of prescription drugs* and make their $$$$ that way. My father died in a similar fashion at age 64. He had a doctor that did not try to get my father healthier, and my father started seeing that doctor when he was just 40 years old. What I learned (I was 25 when my father died), is that we each need to be our own advocate in all things health related. While I make lots of mistakes, I am lucky to live in a time when a quick Google search or RUclips video can give me the info I need.
      In closing, I want to say that I am sorry for the loss of your beloved Aunt. Take care.

    The answer is unquestionably getting rid of ultra processed foods and reducing carbs. Get rid of industrial oils too. Stop being afraid of fat. The real problem is sticking with it forever. It’s really hard.

      @@jg5755 Not much profit for the ranchers, but a LOT of profit for all the processors and packaged food makers. What you and Calvin are both missing is that it's ALL processed food. Doesn't matter if it's processed grains or processed meat, if there's a lobbying arm behind it then you probably shouldn't be eating it unless it's a "whole food" version. And preferably bought from someone in your area.

    I did a ketogenic diet. It really did work for me. I had A1C of 13 when I started. After I lost 60 lbs my number went down to 7. I went back to eating sugar & gained 20 lbs back. Im going back to eating keto.

    So much verbiage and so much footage spent on an issue that is so simple. All you need to do is look at footage from the seventies and earlier, see that very few people were fat (I can count on one hand the number of fat kids in my schools in the sixties and seventies), and ask yourself what's changed. 1. the prevalence of convenience, junk, and fast food, and the increasing sugar content of packaged stuff; 2. serving sizes, especially restaurant meals and pop/soda/fizzy drinks; 3. the social acceptance of snacking, eating in the street, etc.; 4. the demise of cooking skills; 5. screen-watching and car-driving. So there it is, folks. Quit stuffing yourselves with garbage, learn to shop and cook instead of scrolling mindlessly through social media, and get off your lardy bums and walk. You're welcome.

      It is always fascinating to me how people will go "We've gotten so fat since the 70's! I know! It's the carbohydrates that's the problem! It's not like people have eaten grains, legumes and root vegetables as the staples of their diets for millennia!" and rabidly recommend the keto diet. There can be medical reasons for a lower carb or even ketogenic diet but thinking it's the cure-all for why people get fat is just ridiculous.

    When an entire industry is based on profit, it depends on repeat customers. Actually healing sick people is bad for business. Stick a pill down their throat, or two or three, tell them to lose weight, and see them again in 3 months. Rinse. Repeat. Meanwhile, the patient gets sicker.

    This entire doc feels anecdotal. I agree sugar and processed foods are a big problem, but there’s nothing wrong with greens, fruits and whole grains, and yes, unprocessed meat.

      Plants can't run away from their predator, so their defence mechanism is to poison the consumer to varying degrees. Most people can tolerate some plant toxins, but that doesn't mean toxins are good for you. The ancestral human diet consisted primarily of fatty meat, fish and eggs supplemented by plants when the primary food source was scarce. There is better evidence that this diet is healthier for most humans than the unnatural diets pushed by nutritionists.

    For the past 6 months I've ditched all wheat products and anything containing seed oils. Lost a 15lb of weight, all good. Watched this video and once Dextrin was mentioned, I checked the ingredients of my gravy granules. Gravy granules were the last remaining 'processed' item in my diet. I thought 'a splash of gravy on my meat can't be bad'. They contained Maltodextin. Checked it out on the internet then immediately threw the granules away. Another nearly impossible to avoid additive added to the list. If there's an ingredient list on a food item then it is likely to not be good for you.

      I agree. I tried low carb, I think it was more like keto. I followed a plan religiously. I didn't need to lose wait, I was doing it because it's supposed to work well for people who suffer from migraines.
      But, I couldn't stop losing weight. Even after increasing fats and protein like everyone advised, the weight still kept falling off. After nearly 4 months I had to stop, I was so thin everyone thought I was dying.

    I was having seizures, and was just on the cusp of obesity. First i cut seed oils for half a year, lost 20lbs, stopped my sezures (reapeated 2 experiments of fast food bringing upon a few days where id have seizures) Then I switched to spelt flour bread. No refined sugar (1 cane sugar soda a day) lots of fruit! Started fasting just for breakfast. I lost 40 lbs in a year. Lots of eggs and oxidized resistant meat! I still fry 2 or 3 times a week in tallow!!

      I think, tho there's great reason to reduce sugar, especially refined, seed oils have more of an effect on the brain. As the body trys to use these fats for your brain development i think leads to the development of sezuires/ brain deficiency. This should be studied hard. Cholesterol is what the brain is and needs to remain.

    The answer to your question is a fairly simple one. Collusion between a corrupt Food industry along with a just as corrupt medical industry and big government have resulted in an unhealthy robotic worker class just as was predicted by the people set all of this in motion. The ones who sat around in the early 1900's at places like the Bohemian Grove planning for it. A country full of people who would only be fit to work in the factories of the Industrial age. Even now they have simply switched gears from and industrial society to electronic information one. They still have an assembly line of school children taught to believe as one and follow orders. Then released into society to vote as told to in school and to seek further education in the arts where they can be manipulated to create wealth for the already wealthy. The food industry claims they are adding sugar in every possible form in order to make their manmade garbage taste great, I mean it isn't like they knew from the early days of coke that adding highly addictive things into the food system would have addictive results. It isn't also like they spent millions of dollars researching what substances could be used to create these same types of addictions as say cocaine ! And then you have the medical system which is no longer concerned with health as much as wealth. Doctors were some of the first lobbyists to get congress to legalize their corner on the pharmaceutical industry! And then they have adopted a model of treating symptoms rather than seeking to cure anybody. That way they have a never ending source of income from office visits alone. And our government was complicit and still is, don't think for a moment that their upside down food pyramids were accidents. this is all part of grand conspiracy, I and others have been warning about for 50 years. But we are just conspiracy theorists right? Just a bunch of nut jobs seeing collusion where there is no proof? Well if what you want is proof, just look at all three of them and ask yourself. Is what I'm saying true or do they have explanations for promoting everything as it currently is sold to a largely uneducated populace ?

      You need to check out some of the research by professor Tim Noakes.
      He was a sports nutrition professor and also a marathon runner and he will explain to you how you're likely to become diabetic if you do your running fuelled by carbs.

      Every pre-diabetic should see this documentary… esp from 1:12 for a few minutes. Everyone should watch the closing of the movie to as Dr Fettke was cleared of his diet intervention. I cannot to this day understand how a Dr in his position…. Confronting limb amputations … would not utilize dietary alternatives first.
      Living with the thought of telling your patient … you should change your diet/lifestyle or I’ll start cutting off a few toes, then your foot, then your leg. This is horrible. 30 years ago, I knew a diabetic young man in his 20s confronted with losing a leg after losing his foot. He was petrified bcz the Drs wanted to take it off above the knee. It’s unconscionable for the medical world to work this way.

      Also as to the topic at hand - The Adventist Health Study 2 (AHS-2) is a longitudinal cohort study published in 2014. Showed between the followers; Vegetarians in the AHS-2 had a 10% lower mortality rate compared to meat-eaters, with adjustment for body mass index (BMI) affecting statistical significance in some instances.

      @@StephanParry I am familiar with that study. I'm sure you can live longer on a whole food vegetarian diet verses a SAD diet. I would like to see a study between a whole food vegetarian diet verses a whole food beef diet done by an independent 3rd party. If it's even possible to find one. I think that would be really interesting. I don't think it has to be one way or the other. I eat veggies and berries from time to time. I'm not dogmatic about it and I can be convinced to change my views based on legitimate studies that can be replicated by people without an agenda.

      @@StephanParry I am very familiar with the Adventist as there is a large Adventist hospital where I live. I know some of the doctors personally. I really do not feel that they could be impartial to do a study showing legitimate results. I think it's quite easy to show improved longevity between a whole food diet of any kind and processed food diet that is more likely to include sedentary people who drink and smoke. Not sure it's a valid comparison.

    All the carb heavy foods are cheaper for the companies to produce. Aside from fruit and veg, all that dry boxed food lasts a long time and doesn't need refrigeration. And they charge more for it since it's processed. Why is a box of cereal $5. It's friggin grain. How much you think it costs them to make a loaf of sliced white bread. I don't even think wild animals eat grain like that. They give cows corn to bulk them up and it's cheap not cuz it's healthy for them. Same with dog food. Corn isn't good for dogs, it's just cheap filler. Makes em fat. Carbs don't fill you up or make you feel satisfied so you eat more. You're getting less for your money. Meat is more complicated. The animals have to be raised, housed, processed, refrigerated/frozen. Animal foods are more calorie dense and satiate hunger. More bioavailable nutrients. You can eat less and get more out of it.
    We need meat and a little fiber to help sweep the bowels. Anything else is a treat.

      I stopped eating processed foods over a year ago to try treat chronic illness. Especially processed grains and sugar. Medication free now and managing a host of symptoms by eating meat, eggs and (mostly) leafy veg and berries. Food cravings are gone, lean and healthy, and honestly eating like this just makes the most sense.

    I’m 65 and I got obese around 35 like my Dad. 23andMe genetic test indicated I was more prone to diabeties and gifted for obesity. I began to take action in my 40s. My doctor had me count calories and I lost a lot of weight. But my body resisted as I got less fat. Then I treated pre-diabeties with diet and then I lost more fat. To get abs calorie counting is the only way (including for a low carb diet).

    In the 1970's kids often played outside all day during the summer and weekends, and after doing their homework on weekdays during the school year. Now the playgrounds are empty, and kids are now sitting around by the computers or game boxes getting little to no exercise outside of PE at school, all the while eating highly processed foods with all of the sugar and salt and with little of the fiber and nutrients. No wonder they now grow to up to unhealthy adults.

    I think the carnivore diet is healing for many as it deprives many microbes of food. But the average life expectancy of Eskimos is 50-70. You increase your chances of making it to your 90s by being vegetarian or vegan. But vegans/vegetarians rarely if ever, make it to a 100. Those over 100 usually eat a low quantity of meat (but some) and a mostly plant based diet.

    This isn't the whole picture. For example, I've been vegetarian for over a decade. Aside from low iron (runs in my family), I'm very healthy. Look at Japan, they eat a lot of soy and they are far from being an obese society. Many of the people I know who eat a meat heavy diet are obese, low energy, lots of health issues.
    But then you look at some First Nation cultures, and they eat a meat heavy diet and they don't have the health issues seen in countries like the US.
    So there's more to this than "just eat keto and you'll be healthy". I wish people could research things like this without big money, big pharma, etc. I wish we could do real science and studies without ego or money interests and really find out what is healthy for us

      Well said I did meat diet cholesterol deposits in my eyes forced to eat all foods and not demonize foods, but I had to cut on saturated fats the cholesterol to normalise. Now I watch and track calories and eat low calorie high volume foods and increased my protein from lean sources. The amazing thing is my body is recomposing and I am getting abs and getting firm. My macros are protein first carbs second and fats last. I eat low fat diet and it's working fabulous for me in my body composition journey

      It's all confusing. Look at Drs Chaffee, Berry, Baker. All ripped on meat only. When I've visited Hawaii there are many from Japan vacationing. So many of the men all have spindly legs and arms and a pot belly. For me, soy makes me break out like crazy.

    I did the low carb and later carnivore diet & kept getting fatter & fatter & my weight set point increased. I had roux & y bypass & lost 150lbs & from day 1 I ate carbs. To me calories matter & healthy whole food too. When I was low carb I could not break a 230lb plateau & I’m 5’4. I was doing intermittent fasting but the diet drinks were what kept me from losing even though it said “zero sugar.” So carbs are not the enemy. We used to eat all kinds of food & had a very low obesity rate. Processed food & eating too much is what leads to obesity. When I was abroad I ate all kinds of food including fried chicken, rice, bread pizza & still lost wright because it’s all organic.

    Think about the way people lived before inundated with capitalism... they didn't have 24 hour access to fast or processed food. We really weren't meant to be eating indulgently ALL DAY LONG. Highly recommend intermittent fasting and counting carbs, at least. Refined carbs and sugar go directly into the bloodstream when insulin spikes. Be discerning and take care!

    I've tried every diet. I did keto for 3 years and only lost 30 lbs and then stalled (but back when I did it, which was early 2000s, the advice was not to limit calories overall, so I didn't, which is almost certainly why I couldn't lose more). After many many years of gaining and losing the same 120 lbs over and over, I have finally found what works for ME, and that is, it doesn't matter all that much what I eat as long as I exercise for many hours every day at a pretty intense level. There are times that I have let this feel demotivating but on the flip side, I have found sports that I truly love, so it's not a bad thing. But the time commitment is INSANE. It makes holding down a job difficult. I work for myself but during my busy periods at work it's a terrible struggle. In quieter times of year I make sure to do about six hours of exercise per day. I don't take time off intentionally because I've learned that life will force me to take time off anyway so it's best not to do it. I count calories, I weigh myself daily, I measure myself monthly, and I have managed somehow to keep the weight off mostly. I have gained muscle and when I get my next dexa scan I'll see if I've gained any fat with it, I truly hope not. But the key for me after decades of struggle turned out to be hours and hours of exercise/day. I wish I had a nicer conclusion lol.

      Can only store fat if your insulin is high.
      So if you eat few carbohydrates to keep your insulin low you won't store fat.

    The problem isn’t vegetables, it’s ultra processed foods. In fact you should eat as many different plants as possible. This includes vegetables, fruits, herbs, nuts, legumes and grains. Also you should consume omega 3-rich fats such as olive oil. Meat is okay, but not daily. But don’t eat meat from industrial scale production. It’s full of antibiotics and bugs like salmonella. Don’t drink sugary drinks, including fruit juices.
    Most of us eat too much anyway.

      I eat meat daily. No one has ever given me a scientific reason not to.
      I also, after following a keto approach to fix some issues, eat all sorts of other things, vegetables, starches, fats and friut. However, I pattern my carbs. Otherwise it’s meat and veggies. Absolutely no processed food or sugar!

    Carnivore since 1983. Never could gain weight no matter how much I ate. Blood pressure 90/60. Look younger than all of my friends. Yet people tell me that ketogenic diets are not sustainable long term. Yeah right!

      I’ve never understood people who say it’s unsustainable. Once you get Ghrelin under control it’s actually difficult to force yourself to eat a ton of food because you’re virtually never hungry. The first two or three weeks is difficult. But after that, sustainability is a foregone conclusion.

    I feel like almost every one of these health style documentaries has some form of "Oh, I found exactly the 1 book in an entire medical library that has the exact answer to my niche problem, and I'm actually better and smarter than doctors" section. I dont buy it to be honest, I think its a much more dignified way of saying they trawled through WebMD or something, but too embarrassed to say they were influenced by the internet. People love the "it was right there the whole time!" approach to this stuff.

      When you were born you were in ketosis and you stayed in ketosis while you were at your mother's breast.
      If you do some research, you'll find that until 10,000 years ago, which is when we invented agriculture we ate 80% meat and were more than likely in ketosis.

    I stay off processed foods and limit my sweets. I am doing well at 70 years old, except I need to get out and walk more.

      Have a look at old still life paintings of fruits and vegetables and you'll notice a huge difference. No cultivated plant that we grow for food could establish a wild population. And we have changed them so drastically from their wild forms that you wouldn't think they were even related to their wild counterparts. In contrast any livestock animal can go feral (big problem in my own country with feral pigs, turkey, chickens, cattle including dangerous bulls, deer, and goats running rampant).

    Good question, sedentary jobs, i work in finance it's a sedentary work starring at spreadsheets all the time. I try to break sitting with standing often. I also go downstairs to eat use steps to come back instead of lift. I am saying no to lifts inside buildings period

    I am 70 y.o. Born november, 1953. My mother told me I had 10-12 seizures/day. And yes, I two had one on the table in front of the pediatrician, who had previously thought she ws exaggerating. She tole me she suspected the DPT shot. Cause every time I got one, the seizures got worse. I was given brain wave tests (for epilepsy) and had several spinal taps. None of which I remember. I am fine now, but the more I learn, the more I consider myself to be VERY lucky I don't have permanent brain damage.

    Low carb or no carb diets...keto or carnivore works for weight loss and/ or metabolic health .Ordinary Doctors aren't trained in keto diets ,so why expect them to prescribe them to their patients !?.
