It does seem a great device. I was about to order one when I noticed somebody in my area selling a Maschine Plus in the local classifieds. I actually had one already and hated it, mostly due to the underpowered CPU. I was probably trying to do too much with it so I figured Ill give it another try and try to keep more reasonable expectations. I got it for only a small amount more than a new Circuit Rhythm costs (thats how much the Maschine Plus has dropped in resale value) so I figured its at least on par with the what I could do with Circuit Rhythm. Hopefully it was a wise choice but I guess time will tell. There may be a cheap Maschine Plus going for sale again if this doesnt work out 😅
Hi, can I use the Circuit Rhythm for the creating beats without external devices? And can I import mp3 files to sample them exclusively on the Circuit Rhytm?
Yep, it works by itself, no external devices needed. You do need to connect it to a computer to load in sounds, or connect a device to its audio input(s) to sample something in.
Can you chain Projects in the same way as Scenes and Patterns, or do you have to switch between them live as they play? I'm used to pattern chaining entire songs as the main form of composing and arrangement, and trying to see if this device can fit that workflow
Nice overview. Is the filter, start point end point etc applied the track or the sample? for example, can I assign the same sample to different tracks and apply a filter on one track but not the other?
The macros are applied to the track, so if you wanted to have different settings on different samples on the same track, you'd need to do some step automation (which you can do!)
Here's a scenario I'm considering: I have a quite a few tracks in my archive (50+) that I would like to play live. RN I'm doing ableton live set that contains multitracks for each track + midi for specific tracks like bass or sequence for external synth trigger/internal ableton instrument. As I understand you cannot put 10+ GB of stems into one project. But how much can you put into the machine for one project? Say one song is 600 MB (4 mins). Can you put those into machine? And how fast is project switching happening? Also is there a way to Pre-listen (cue) instruments/click before sending it to output?
I don't think the Rhythm is going to do what you're looking for. The total sample time that a single project can hold is 3.7 minutes, so that already kills that idea unfortunately. You also can't audition stuff before listening to it like you could on a DJ mixer. Project switching brings the new project in with the beat exactly like a pattern, which is really nice, and there's a button press combo to make it happen instantaneously as well.
My understanding from reading the manual, and from comments Novation made related to videos for the Launchpad Pro mk3, is that velocity is set for an entire step, not just an individual component of that step. So in your hi hat example, if a kick or snare shared one of the steps that you reduced the velocity on, it too would have a drop in velocity. Is that correct?
The second thing, the velocity is separate for each track. So if your kicks and hi hats are on different tracks, which they probably will be, the velocity will be set independently.
@@GabeMillerMusic I appreciate the quick helpful reply! I was considering the Launchpad to pair with a Volca Sample until I discovered this thing. Thanks for the helpful videos
Hi Gabe, thanks for the video, most helpful. One question… when slicing on the unit, can you have two different slice samples in one track? So like on a normal track you can flip and have a kick and snare, I would like to know if you can have chops from different chopped breaks? If not can you choke the breaks on different tracks
@@GabeMillerMusic Cool thanks, I’m looking at getting one.. the choke on different parts would work on some jungle choppage with a resample and chop of the final sample. I also just seen you can swap chops on the fly with other samples with chops.. not sure if this can be recorded? ruclips.net/video/FJbGY3wDqyc/видео.html (12 mins)
bro when I play a sample on the chromatic keyboard, the higher I play, the fast the sample plays and the lower I play, the slower it plays. how can I unlink pitch and speed?
Hey Gabe, another question. When you create a Scene, does the Scene take priority over Pattern play? Seems to be the case, for me. I'm on the latest firmware. If a Scene is selected, you can't be in Pattern View and customize what patterns are playing.. it will always play the Scene, instead. Not commonly talked about, with both this, and Circuit Tracks.
Scenes are just collections of patterns, so launching a scene will launch the patterns it contains and override whatever you had selected before that. Once a scene is launched, you can switch between patterns, it just won't save that new combination unless you save that as a scene as well.
Hey Gabe, thanks for the informative video. I wanna get either the Tracks or Rhythm for my birthday, and I love the creativity that comes from sampling but I also love synths and value a wide range of sounds. Does the Rhythm have a decent synth engine or is it kind of blank and everything needs to be sampled in?
You don't need a computer to use it (other than to load in sound files), and it's great for both, unless the type of techno you're making relies heavily on slowly evolving sounds and textures.
I'll be making one soon, I've been using the circuit rhythm synced with a loop pedal via midi, and synced with a Korg Miniloge with the sync. Have guitar and the minilogue sent into the sample inputs on the circuit, so I can live sample and chop guitar and synth its amazing!!! Should have a video up on my channel today or tomorrow
The packs contain samples AND projects. So you can switch between multiple projects inside of one pack, but not the other way around (switching between packs takes some loading time). The 220 second limitation is per pack.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I'm kind leaning towards the Rhythm. It works perfectly with the way my brain works and I've already had a lot of fun making a lot of music with it.
@@GabeMillerMusic oh ok cool. I think I’m going to get it also. I like the tracks but I also don’t use other external synths really so I feel I’m just wasting two tracks. Plus I like you can have completely empty packs on it and build it up with out a computer. Looking forward to seeing your next video with it.
Is it true that to export your beat you have to play each track through the output and record manually? Wow this is super inconvenient. I guess it's not a deal breaker but just feels antiquated and time consuming.
You do have to do that if you want the individual tracks. Or you can launch patterns live to perform a track and record everything as is and just roll with it. It's not always the most polished in the world, but it's definitely possible to get a solid mix on just the Circuit by itself.
@@GabeMillerMusic I appreciate the quick response. I guess I can setup the patterns in a way where each track plays solo one after another so that I can record it in one go. Then chop on the daw. That's not too bad.
19:30 I'm finding the sample-chopping segment a little difficult to follow. I know how to select whether a sample is "keyboard/slices" and how to pick whether it's 4, 8 or 16 slices. So far, so good. I also know how to manually tweak the start/end points of those slices using the macro knobs 2 (start), 3 (end) and, 4 (envelope). However, you lost me when explaining how to tap in the slice points. How do I do that? How do I play a longer sample and tap in slice points? (what key combos do I need to do to get to that?). Thanks and sorry for the dumb question.
All good! Once you've selected how many slices you want, you can hit the Note button, like you would when expanding the range of notes you can play on the Tracks. That takes you into a window to manually set chop points as the sample plays. You initiate the chopping by hitting the pad at the very top left, if I recall correctly. It's either that one or one that's two down from it (I'm answering this on my phone in crappy wifi so I can't double check it at the moment). From there you just hit pads in order as the sample plays to set the following chop points. Hopefully that makes a bit more sense.
@@GabeMillerMusic Many thanks for this explanation. it turns out live slicing is a feature of firmware version 1.1 and I was still running 1.0. That's why I couldn't follow your video. Thanks again.
I love what Novation does with their instruments, but it just really grinds my gears that they announce and release new gear and then make you wait three weeks for stock to get ready. It's such an amateuristic move on their end. I wonder why they choose to go this route with their logistics. It's frustrating to customers who just want to get their hands on the new gear, but I digress. Great video Gabe.
Yeah it seems like it's been a scramble to release both Circuits by their deadlines. They've still turned out good, but the logistics have been a bit of a mess.
the machine that all StarTrek fans want 🤣🤣 jokes aside, I wanted to give it a little thought because I only have the Yamaha su200 and a Roland JS30 but they are slow and a bit obsolete although the su200 allows you to work with exceptionally long samples I need something faster when it comes to capturing maybe the sound from a movie How long can Rhythm load samples for each track? the other option is the 404 but there is a price difference....
@@GabeMillerMusic Don't think this is possible, actually. I'm holding the step, changing start time for that track's sample.... and it's changing it entirely, instead of on that step. Latest firmware. EDIT: figured it out.. REC has to be enabled (even if playback is stopped) to change the parameters of a step. Got it. Thanks man. This is where a display truly would help. Trying to find the start point from a dimly-lit encoder to a brightly-lit encoder just is so not ideal. Even the Volca Sample 2's number display helps when automating start points in a pattern! :)
All you have to do is turn it on and plug in a pair of headphones. I did a separate video on how to load in sounds and configure settings: ruclips.net/video/Ujpx3BP1hnU/видео.html

Hopefully it was a wise choice but I guess time will tell. There may be a cheap Maschine Plus going for sale again if this doesnt work out 😅
bro your the beSt!!
Hi, can I use the Circuit Rhythm for the creating beats without external devices? And can I import mp3 files to sample them exclusively on the Circuit Rhytm?
Yep, it works by itself, no external devices needed. You do need to connect it to a computer to load in sounds, or connect a device to its audio input(s) to sample something in.
swing settings (track/project) have you been exploring these?
Can you chain Projects in the same way as Scenes and Patterns, or do you have to switch between them live as they play? I'm used to pattern chaining entire songs as the main form of composing and arrangement, and trying to see if this device can fit that workflow
bro can you teach how to change time signature for in the machine? like doing some 3/4 or 5/6?
can i plug my bass with it while giving a live performance?
Nice overview. Is the filter, start point end point etc applied the track or the sample? for example, can I assign the same sample to different tracks and apply a filter on one track but not the other?
The macros are applied to the track, so if you wanted to have different settings on different samples on the same track, you'd need to do some step automation (which you can do!)
is it possible to perform and launch full songs from ableton and bring this on stage?
Is this a standalone unit ? Do sounds already come loaded out the box and ready to use without a pc/Mac ?
Yes and yes
I know I’m one year late, but can you overdub on the same sample while in the recording process?
Here's a scenario I'm considering:
I have a quite a few tracks in my archive (50+) that I would like to play live.
Hi Gabe, is there a way to chain patterns in a random order - like the OG circuit? thx for the vids, I bought mine 'cause of you ;-)
Not directly, unfortunately. The workaround is making scenes and chaining those together.
Or are hi hats and kicks going to be on separate parallel tracks so velocity is set independently?
I'm not sure if you can switch between different samples that you've chopped, but yes, you can send tracks to a choke group.
You can't, unfortunately, they're always linked
@@GabeMillerMusic Gocha. Also, no way to trigger Scenes instantly? Always have to wait til the end of a bar?
@@DopamineOverload I think if you hold shift and press scene it will happen
Great vid!
But can you sync and use the circuit tracks and rhythm together??
Hey Gabe, thanks for the informative video. I wanna get either the Tracks or Rhythm for my birthday, and I love the creativity that comes from sampling but I also love synths and value a wide range of sounds. Does the Rhythm have a decent synth engine or is it kind of blank and everything needs to be sampled in?
@BRIØCHE thanks for the info. I’m goin with the tracks
Hello i have two question this machine is really good for techno or better for hip-hop ? Do you need computer for use?
You don't need a computer to use it (other than to load in sound files), and it's great for both, unless the type of techno you're making relies heavily on slowly evolving sounds and textures.
@@GabeMillerMusic 😅ok because i like techno but not so like hip-hop
I’d love to see a video showing the sync ( both midi & 3.5 mm) sync with external gear.
Are you able to use mutiple packs per project? And the 220 sec limitation, is that per project or per pack?
The packs contain samples AND projects. So you can switch between multiple projects inside of one pack, but not the other way around (switching between packs takes some loading time). The 220 second limitation is per pack.
What does the setup page do?
Out of curiosity, can this function as a loopstation with other instruments, kind of like the Boss RC-505?
I probably wouldn't use it for that, personally. There are a few too many steps to recording, then selecting samples for that to play cleanly.
I hope novation add pitch shifter to effects and possibly tiiiiiime streeeeetch
How you record music into your computer ( or other device )
thanks
I did a dedicated video on that topic!

@@GabeMillerMusic thank you so much 😉
Would this be a good for a complete beginer?
I have no clue how you got the reverb and delay on there. Totally glossed over...
Great video. Now if you could pick one the rhythm or the tracks which one would you get and why lol
My track volume bottoms change to left/right balance , how can i change it to normal?
Thanks in advance
Use the octave up/down buttons to switch between volume and panning
@@GabeMillerMusic will try thanks man.
Make more tutorial about tracks
Can you change the volume of the step?
any info on exporting tracks
You can't do it directly, but there are workarounds. I did a dedicated video on it!
ruclips.net/video/1qdMK8iemtI/видео.html
Pressed Shift and Clear/Click and hear no Click?
Can you apply a delay / reverb effect on one track only?
Yes. The reverb and delay both work as sends, and you can send as much or as little of each individual track to them as you want.
@@GabeMillerMusic awesome, thanks man!
How do we dim the lights on the Circuit Rhythm?
Hit shift+save, then select pad 24 to toggle between full and 50% brightness
Gabe, can you do a sound pack that's just chopped up samples of you saying random things?
Haha I'm not planning on doing it myself, but that's definitely something that's possible to make.
@@GabeMillerMusic Challenge accepted. :D
Can you make a video about using both new circuits together?
I'll get around to it eventually!
Anyone else have an issue where loops trigger slower than the tempo and catch up after a couple seconds? It’s driving me crazy.
This! Call it a preorder or something 😭. They will learn one day, the world is about now. Like id pay early if id know id get early.
Yeah it seems like it's been a scramble to release both Circuits by their deadlines. They've still turned out good, but the logistics have been a bit of a mess.
the machine that all StarTrek fans want 🤣🤣
jokes aside, I wanted to give it a little thought because I only have the Yamaha su200 and a Roland JS30 but they are slow and a bit obsolete although the su200 allows you to work with exceptionally long samples I need something faster when it comes to capturing maybe the sound from a movie
How long can Rhythm load samples for each track?
the other option is the 404 but there is a price difference....
Major thing I wasn’t aware of-- editing start time of a sample affects all samples on that track. Awful. Needs to be per-sample in a firmware update.
It's a workaround, but you can automate those parameters on a step by step basis, and you can copy steps that contain automation.
I'm a beginner and was expecting the Intro and Setup to explain to how to Setup this hardware, but it doesn't..rip...
All you have to do is turn it on and plug in a pair of headphones. I did a separate video on how to load in sounds and configure settings:
