This is very early PTX. Check out the date. They were just barely scratching along. SME was obligated to keep them on, since they'd just won the SingOff, but the new CEO of Epic didn't want them, so Sony shuffled them down to Madison Gate which basically does Broadway and other odds and ends. The record they mention was with MG. Then they made this, recorded it in the closet of the place Avi and Kevin were renting and shot the video in the kitchen. Their first Grammy cost them $400. Half of that probably went for the blue contacts. Once that went viral RCA asked SME if they could pick them up. And the rest is history, as they say. Their discography is extensive. Their voices have continued to develop as has the complexity of their arrangements. 39
Shot live using an iPad in Avi’s (the bass) closet. Spent $400 for makeup and costumes. This info is from Scott when they received their first Grammy at the Awards ceremony. Did do some other work in Avi’s kitchen. No auto-tune, no special effects. Just the 5 of them and their extraordinary talent!
Link for that! The "processing" involved in this is maybe some sound leveling? That's about it, as you'll see from the off-mic performance. ruclips.net/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/видео.html
@@amandaw6872 True. It's hard to hear Avi (bass), which is normal when you're watching a fan video and they're singing without mics. But it's obvious that they don't need much magic from the producer.
The linked performance was shot with a cell phone. That mike doesn't have much of a dynamic range yet it is the same performance as the official RUclips video!
@@amandaw6872 Oh wow thanks so much for that! I've seen most of their vids, but never stumbled upon this one yet. It's fantastic to see it live... I mean, I know it's all vocals, but still seems an impossible feat... and yet it sounds the same in this one! Thanks for sharing!
If you like this you should check out their original song called Love Again! It's soooooo mindblowingly good 😊 it is a similar vibe and concept but it is more of a Cyberpunk or cyber goth style!
❤️ this reaction. Since Christmas is coming up Mary Did You Know would be a great next one or Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies (2nd Grammy winning song).
Just discovered you, welcome to the Pentatonix rabbit hole. I would love to see your reaction to their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. I know you will enjoy it. BTW - Home Free is another acapella group that you would find full of "ear candy." From them, Man of Constant Sorrow, Ring of Fire (with Avi the bass from PTX), and How Great Thou Art would be good places to start (please save Mayday for when you know everyone in the group and their usual talents...trust me). Their genre leans more country (with substantial crossover) and their work is just as incredible. I've found that those that are fans of one are usually fans of both. Thanks and Enjoy!
I love, love, love your reactions. Your enthusiasm for musical discovery melts my heart and makes me SO happy that there are still folks out there who are curious, searching, and learning beyond what they already know. Keep posting! (And I agree with Rodri - "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" will have your jaw on the floor.)
Marvelous reaction ! They also won a Grammy for Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, DANCE OF THE SUGAR PLUM FAIRIES, which has NO words ! The more you try their songs, the more you will be amazed ! They have new stuff out now, too, done in quarantine ! You'll have so much fun. Thank you for trying their powerful, passionate performances !
Kevin and Avi is so incredible with putting together bass sounds and percussion sounds they fill up so much of the music. They definitely deserved their grammy for this arangment.
Eventually you will forget that they are an acapella group and just be amazed at how awesome they are, instruments or not. Isn’t it fun to have your 🤯 mind blown. I’m new here and am enjoying…so off to another.
I have been following PTX since they were on The Sing Off. Fell in love with them then, the group is different but still just as good with the change of the bass from Avi to Matt
Brilliant 'reaction' Avi (bass) and Kevin (beat boxer) are magicians....Avi's killer bass and his other tricks (swishing sounds etc) and Kevins non stop drums etc made this unbelievable production world class. the trio are of course just as brilliant. Filmed individually in a closest then added effects of ring lights and steam from kitchen...lol Paid $400 to have it edited...and bam! Emmy number 1. they are just that good. Why not go on their journey from winning Sing Off....and watch the magic of PTX come to life
This may be my favorite PTX video; not coincidentally it was the first I watched & when I was flattened by the Avi-lanch. 🤓 Great nostalgia watching this with you, thanks!
Welcome to Pentatonix! I mentioned when they posted their 12 Days of Christmas video recently not only how incredible this group is, but they work hard and are extremely creative with their choreography, arrangements, and production value. And like SteveK mentioned, this is some of their early stuff. One of my favorites for pure production value is Bohemian Rhapsody.
There is also a studio version of this, with PTX in street clothes and no video effects. It shows them creating this exact performance in the pure form. You'd love it too.
Daft Punk is my favorite PTX song. It does make you want to dance. I have never seen you react to a song with so much joy & happiness. Thank you for your review; made me happy!
If you want to see what they can do with this song without a studio there is a video of them off mic for a private performance. Look it up and you'll see this is just what they can do.
I had to stop in the middle of my comment so this is part 2. You are 1 of my top reactors because you show your emotion and you get involved with the video. You said it makes you feel like dancing so get up and dance. Pentatonix does All Sorts of Music ranging from the serious as in hallelujah to those that are fun and creative. When they had the grid up and Was a flashing their faces on there actually singing two songs. Some of their videos do have behind the scenes Video. They also teamed up with todrick hall, and extremely extremely talented artist, to do the wizard of ahhhs. This is I guess the word might be whimsical but that's not quite right. It's a video Of the wizard of Oz but with their spin on iit. With each part being song with different songs from other artists. Each song pairs itself with each new scene. Mitch the 1st guy to sing and Scott the second guy to sing also Have their own group called super fruit. Avi the bass With the beard and mustache is with the band until 2017 when he leaves on very friendly terms and Matt stepped in to fill his shoes. If you watch The live version of aha at Singapore you will hear how low Avi can go that he actually blew out a speaker. Love again is another real good video And that is an original song. Awhile back they released happy now which is also an original and just lately be my eyes which is an original song. Since I know you Really like queen Pentatonix has done a cover of bohemian rhapsody that Freddie would be very proud of. In fact Brian May contacted them and said that he really liked it. The Other song that they won a Grammy is dance of the sugar plum fairy. If you watch that You'll hear just how low Avi can go and how high Mitch can go. Since you are the Only reactor of the ones I watch who comments on location of the video, t he technicality of shooting the video you would really appreciate how they did dance of the sugar plum fairy. For an extremely powerful message delivered in an extremely powerful manner with absolute perfect harmonies watch there cover of imagine. Sound of silence is another Real popular cover. They also Not too long ago release there cover of madworld and They have put their own spin on it and again you would really appreciate how the video was shot. They recorded blinding lights during quarantine so each member is in their own home doing their part of the song and then it was edited and put together as 1 video. They also have 1 they did during quarantine And I think it's titled home And it is also a mash up Of a lot of songs.Q
It is amazing how big and full a sound these talented vocalist can to a song. I don't think I have ever heard them do something I didn't love. I love their studio work, but I am really impressed with their 'Live' performances. I am also impressed with how they stay together and keep going. After a few years people tend to get tired of each other, start getting jealous of some one else's ______ fill in the blank. I am glad for their continued success, and grateful that their timing was so perfect to be there when the "Pitch Perfect" movies came out. Their appearance in the second movie as the Canadian contingent was perfect. You really need to get back to Daneliya Tuleshova. She just got done with an appearance on AGT where she made the finals. Then they gave her the 'Bum's Rush' after she made it to the finals, much like they did to Angelina Jordan. Anyway, her first cover after AGT was a cover of a Birdy song, 'Not About Angels' from the movie, "The Fault In Our Stars" I think that was the name. Daneliya did such a beautiful job on this song, in fact, and I'm not lying, I am crying just thinking about it. I will not lie I have been under this young lady's spell since two notes into her performance of 'Stone Cold'. I cannot explain what it really was like, but I get close when I say her singing struck me like an emotional lightening bolt to my heart. I have tried to maintain an equal balance between my three favorite singers. The other two being Angelina Jordan and Morissette. Morissette is the best vocalist on the face of the planet today. Angelina Jordan who is going to bring Jazz back into popular music. All three of these young women are fabulous in their own right, but Daneliya has had my heart since the first two notes of 'Stone Cold' came out of her mouth. I implore you to listen to the song I mentioned. You could even listen to the original artist Birdy, a young Canadian singer/songwriter who is a talented songwriter and a very good singer, but she is not Daneliya. Listen to the two of them and see if you agree. Thanks for your reaction.
Thank you for reacting to PTX. I love them. It was fun watching you watch them. More PTX reactions please. They have many, many songs/videos that will blow your mind.
If you want another one that is just plain creative and fun, you should react to Todrick Hall's "Wizard of Ahhhs" featuring Pentatonix. Kirstin is the featured voice and just does a phenomenal job as Dorothy and both witches. Also, Avi hits one of his lowest notes ever.
This feels to me as my best friends wedding between century old a capella song tradition and a high techno hip hop video clip disco happening as an impossible to top this... ecclectic alchemixture...
As a PTX fan that just is a stickler for details and truly means no disrespect to any other fan, I always want the new fans to understand the truth when reading the comments about their 'Daft Punk' reaction. Pentatonix won their first of their three Grammy's for 'Best Arrangement Instrumental or a Cappella' for the song, not having anything to do with the video. Of course the Video story and how it was made is almost as compelling. But again for all the NEW Pentaholics out there... They won the Grammy for the Arrangement of the Song... not the Video.
Another song that gives that hard bass edm sound is their original first hit "Love Again". Kevin gets me dancing my butt off everytime I hear him first drop that bass. It's unbelievable. A song they do that may bring you to tears, is their cover of "Mary Did You Know?" I get emotional every time they reach the peak of that song.
I loved your reaction. I understand how you thought they processed their vocals for the electronic effects, because I thought the same. Until I searched for a live version and saw that they did it all just with their voices. Blew my mind. They say they do nothing that they could not do live.
If you haven’t listened to these already...I recommend any of their Christmas songs...mainly Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Mary Did You Know, Silent Night and Drummer Boy.
Are you Aussie or Kiwi? Anyway mate, glad you’ve gone down the rabbit hole of Pentatonix! This is a mash up or medley of the French electronic music duo Daft Punk. It samples Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger, Television Rules the Nation, and Around the World. It’s amazing that they can make electronic sounding songs with their mouths! If you liked this one PLEASE react to their original song Love Again! It’s got a similar video style to this but has a more darker cyber punk, dystopian theme and we get to hear Mitch’s high range!
You were talking about how long it would have taken to put something like this together you should watch the season of the Sing Off where they only had one week to take a song and make it theirs. They also won that competition.
Pentatonix has done electronic covers from the beginning. You should, for your own enjoyment and education, review their appearances on The Singoff season 3. It gives a real perspective on where they came from.
YES😀YES😀YES😀 I Have been waiting for you to do another Pentatonix. Of lost count of how many times I've watched hallelujah. As people said this was done with $400 in Ivy's kitchen And recorded in a closet And it was them A Grammy. Pentatonix is THE acapella 8
This was one of their first videos they did after winning Sing Off and you mentioned some "processing" of their voice which is likely true with Daft Punk. However if you watch their live stuff and their Sing Off competitions you'll quickly find that they don't need processing to make the sounds they are making. Specific in Radio Star contemplation they stagger their voices to make them sound mechanical and skipping like a record. They are incredible and I'm thrilled you've found them.
Soul, I'm 71 year old woman who just recently discovered reaction videos and I have to thank you because I have so much fun watching you!!! Their cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody" is an essential experience.
they won a gramy for this one. it was made in Avi's and Kevins apartment for $400 total cost.

Wait so RCA asked SME if they could pick them up, but presumably SME said no? Because they are still with SME right?
@@pjschmid2251 No, SME owns RCA.
Grammy was for the arrangement

You were talking about how long it would have taken to put something like this together you should watch the season of the Sing Off where they only had one week to take a song and make it theirs. They also won that competition.
I love your enthusiasm!
Pentatonix is THE acapella

This song gave them their first Grammy.
Love your reactions!!!
Glad to know of your book. I will definitely read it!
Thank you Susan, Hope you enjoy it!
So happy you're doing this one. Thanks man! Super reaction!!
You're reaction is the best I've seen in a while. Can't wait for you to hear Bohemian Rhapsody and Imagine. We know you'll love it!
Soul, I'm 71 year old woman who just recently discovered reaction videos and I have to thank you because I have so much fun watching you!!! I easily watched in the first week over a hundred different reactors I've selected 10 of my favorites you are at the very top of my list I absolutely enjoy everything you do, you never disappoint thank you so so much for sharing with us your wonderful reactions and if I may I have to ask what is the faint Corner? One last question, I so badly want to read your book "The Beggar" however my immune system is destroying my corneas and I can no longer read the written page...will it be available in audio? Thanks again for all the enjoyment you provide 😊💕💕
Please forgive errors and poor punctuation as I can't proofread on this small screen.
I am honored and humbled by your comment, thank you:) As for Audio book, i'm afraid i don't have one but i'm thinking of making one in the near future.
@@soullavee thank you so much for your reply I will anxiously await the news of the audio version.
. I plan on spending the day with you catching up on a lot of reactions I haven't had time to watch yet have a wonderful wonderful day.😊
Fyi: this song just gave them their first grammy 😊😊
There's a video of them performing this in a private setting, no speakers or microphones! Amazing! 💕
Loved your reaction!
Looking forward to you reacting to more Pentatonix Sounds of Silence, Mary Did you Know, Bohemian Rhapsody. .anything really.
more Pentatonix please.....Can't Hold Us......Imagine.......Evolution of Michael Jackson
Time to come back to Pentatonix, “Amazing Grace”, best I ever heard.
They just released their version of Amazing Grace two days ago, already has 1 million view.
Thoroughly enjoyed this, thanks. :) One of my favorite things to watch reactions to is their Aha live at the Star Vista, so big recommends for that one!
Still think you should check out Pentatonix
Mary Did You Know
We told you... This song basically crushed all other songs in their class.
You should react to Pentatonix's cover of Bohemian Rahpsody!
You still need to do Mary Did You Know, it’s by far my favorite! Love your channel!
I HIGHLY recommend John Lennon's Imagine cover -- I think it's even more touching than Hallelujah!
