This video reviews British Airways' flight from London Heathrow (LHR) to Johannesburg (JNB) South Africa in November 2017.
Video includes footage of the First Galleries Club lounge at Heathrow Terminal 5, details of the in-flight experience.
I flew last year to Johannesburg with BA on a Boeing 747. I was really glad to enjoy the Airbus A380 on this route for my recent flight. The "King of the skies" offers a superior level of comfort. It's so spacious and quiet - enjoying lower noise levels in the cabin during a night flight is much more enjoyable.
The outbound flight BA 57 was operated by an Airbus 380-800 registration G-XLEH. This aircraft first flew in May 2014.
Before my flight I went to the Galleries First lounge (access through my Gold card). A good place to relax before the flight. I am glad I didn't intend to have a full dinner before my flight as the food in the buffet section was a bit sparse.
Great customer service in the Club cabin. The cabin crew was very friendly. I appreciate it was a busy service but the crew didn't check if passengers wanted more drinks during the dinner (or hot drinks during the breakfast service).
I was sitting in the upper deck Club World cabin - it was a 2-3-2 layout, so less crowded than on the main deck (2-4-2). The seat has an elegant herringbone fabric but to get a 5 star rating would need to be wider (with a better pillow/blanket please).
A window seat offers more privacy but most window seats require to climb over the aisle passenger's footstool during the flight (for my next long haul on the A80 I selected one of the very few window seat with an aisle access that doesn't require any gymnastics). Even American Airlines now offers window seats with direct aisle access - I think that BA is falling behind when it comes to business class.
The selection in the Clun Kitchen wasn't as great as it used to be. The chocolates were just cheap junk food.
I've had great flights to the US with BA with an in-flight entertainment that kept me busy during to 7 or 10 hours of my flight. On this occasion the selection was rather poor, I appreciate that this could be related to personal taste. I am glad I had movies and TV programmes to watch on my tablet.

Nauuda & Kwama, Never let you go
Welcome to Johannesburg, the city of gold, hope you had a nice stay in my home town
Alas it only a short stay. I've been Durban (and other parts of KZN), PT and CPT. but hope to come back to SA now borders are opening again. How are things in SA? Stay safe. Thanks for watching
@@Speedbird1FLY Things in SA are relatively fine. When you come back when our borders open, be sure to visit the coastal city of Port Elizabeth located in the coastal province of Eastern Cape. We call it the Mother City in South Africa because of how welcoming its beach and climate is.
I really enjoy the fact that you include the captains welcome announcement! Nice Touch
Thanks for watching Gert. I find BA flight deck announcements are usually really good (with details about the aircraft and route) and the right tone. One a recent flight the captain addressed the pax as "ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls". I thought it was a nice touch, no one was forgotten even young aviation enthusiasts
Brilliant video once again - I really enjoy watching these. Well done!
Fionnula Fitzsimons amazing comments and looking forward to welcoming you "on board" again soon. Thanks for watching
Fantastic Report mate! Superb Detail and view of the Club World seat. Liked!
Thank you so much!!! I am very grateful for such superb feedback from you. I do enjoy creating these reports. Thanks again for watching
Speedbird1 FLY My Pleasure. Just interested in what you think about BA - You seem to be well travelled and have flown First, CW and WT, what is your opinion of them? Are they really that bad like they are potrayed?
I used to be very satisfied with BA - I am now just satisfied which leaves me tempted to try other airlines / switch from OneWorld to another alliance (StarAlliance would be my preferred alternative). BA has done a lot to alienate its most loyal customers. I am not sure if BA is clear either on their positioning - do they want to be a low cost airline or premium. I fear they are failing on both fronts
Stunner work bro!
Many thanks, great feedback :-)
It’s interesting that the longest escalator in the UK is at the airport and not a Tube station!
Great video! Has to be such a great experience to fly the BA C...
Flight Time and great experience flying the A380!! Thanks for watching 🙏✈️✈️
Great video - I do love the A380!
Thanks - it's genuinely the King of the skies.
Our last A380 BA Club flight was to LA - your steak was presented better! :)
Nice one. best presentation I had with BA was in First. Really superb meal. Food in Club World is usually pretty good.
Worst experience I had recently (in the First Club lounge) was dishing up what I thought was a curry - it was pork belly. An acquired taste :-#
Great flight mate good work I love a380s
So do I. A fantastic way to travel, so smooth and quiet
Love your work mate :)
Thanks. I love travelling and it's great to extend the experience through such videos. Fantastic to hear they are appreciated. Merry Christmas :-)
Hi paul
Nice video. Plane ✈️ looks spacious & nice amenities.
Can’t wait for British Airways A380’s to come to Chicago’s O’Hare
Thank you
I had the privilege to fly with British Airways from Windhoek, Namibia via O.L.Tambo, South Africa to London Heathrow to LAX, Los Angeles. From Namibia to South Africa in a 737 and from South Africa with 747 and from London to Los Angeles in an A380. The experience was great especially getting through the airports since I've never flown overseas before and on such big planes. Only downfall was that for some reason my wifi couldnt pic up at Heathrow but it was working just fine at LAX and Boise,Idaho airport.
Thanks for sharing your experience Christy. For our first flights overseas, you managed 3 continents. It must have been a fantastic experience
Great video as always! BA should really step up their game on the international business class product.
😀😃 thank you so much. Nice to see I am keeping up high standards 😌
At a time when some airlines feel the pressure on their financial results, I can understand they have to keep a balancing act between those and the customer experience
Yeah I agree, since IAG purchased BA they have to make loads of profit and that means cutting off spendings. The hard product is too cramped to be a business class! They should use reverse herringbone seats or other kind of seats in order to stay competitive with airlines around the world. I can say this with confidence because I fly a lot between London and Bogotá (Colombia) for business and I fly a fantastic yet not known airline called Avianca. They have reverse herringbone seats and are much more comfortable than the 2-3-2 configuration used by BA. I once flew in the middle seat facing backwards, and god that was awkward! If you are flying to South America I really recommend Avianca!
@@jeronimocastro3282 yes too many cuts and I believe BA is looking to invest more in their soft products. I quite like AA business class and BA s First is VERY good.
I ve never tried Avianca. Good to hear you hear this airline so highly. I recently tried LATAM between MAD and FRA. Good experience but far from market leading. I have flights booked with Cathay Pacific and royal Jordanian... More One world experience s to come
Nice video! I really love the A380 and how quiet it is especially during takeoff and cruise. Is there an onboard shower and is it available to business class passengers? The food looks delicious and that privacy wall is nice!
Thank you for your great feedback. No onboard shower but arrival lounge at LHR. I am not sure about a BA arrival lounge / or contracted lounge at JNB as I went airside again to catch my connecting flight to DUR. The BA franchise operated by Comair has a very nice lounge for domestic flight. I am not sure if with showers was the this area was being refurbished
What's the name of the song as you are taking off from LHR and landing in JNB? It's a lovely song.
Hi Shaun thanks for watching. You'll find the credits for the sound tracks in the video description. More videos and GREAT sound tracks on my channel. Hope you enjoy. 😊
Really looking forward to the BA business class new design on the A350
So do I. The White company bedding is an improvement in itself (I find the pillow very comfortable - sometimes small changes can make a big difference). Thanks for watching :-)
Five star coverage
Many thanks Pritam
Great video! Thank you. What date was your flight? I flew BA55 outbound to JNB on G-XLEA on 7 November.
Thanks for this , i highly enjoyed it ! Is JNB your final destination in SA or did you visit CPT,DUR or somewhere else ?
Joshua Fleming hi Joshua... I very much value your great feedback and time you took to watch this latest review. I then went to DUR and even tried the Premier Class train while in ZA. I hope you have a wonderful holiday in ZA and I look forward to any footage you can share. 😎🤣
Thanks , i actually live in South Africa , but i guess you can call my lifestyle here a holiday ! Did you perhaps do a review of the flight to DUR/Premier class train trip ? I actually go to DUR tomorrow.
Enjoy your trip to DUB Joshua... and please have a thought for your chums in the UK facing snow and freezing weather :-)
I will publish review of the JNB/DUR flight and my journey on the Premier class (this was from PMB to DUR).
Hehe will keep them in my prayers tonight , looking forward to the other reviews ! All the best Josh :D
@@Speedbird1FLY It's 'SA'. Suid Afrika/South Africa. Zuid Afrika is Nederlands!
One quick question , did this gate use 2 or 3 jet Bridges for the A380?
Another question , about how full in (%) would you say club world was on your flight?
3 jet bridges: 1 for the upper deck and 2 for the lower deck. I have another A380 video in the pipeline - this time for a flight from LHR to Singapore. Stay tunes (feel free to subscribe, click on the bell icon for updates). Thanks for watching :-)
What should BA do
Good question. Genuinely listening to their customers would be a good start. All recent surveys (Skytrax or the UK consumer magazine Which?) all point in the same direction: passengers are increasingly and notably more disatisfied.
BA should ensure they get all the fundamentals right. Are the bugs on beds - or IT issues related to one budget cut too far? The execution seems to be cracking under pressure.
For the long haul services, BA has fallen behind in its "Club World" offering. The dense cabin configuration isn't great - even American Airlines does better. Last time I flew with BA in World Traveller I found the breakfast to be very poor / unhealthy. IFE could do much better too (in all classes)
For most travellers, domestic and short haul forms the bulk of the experience when it comes to flying with BA. BoB has possibly been the worst decision taken by BA. Gone are the days of "to fly to serve".
I am possibly too loyal to BA but the tipping point is getting close. I would welcome improvements before I simply walk away as clearly I am missing out from what other airlines can offer.
Why Would you want to go to Johannesburg
TotenkopfKatzen I connected there for my flight to Durban (video available if you are interested). BA now flies direct to Durban but you can good fares to JNB if you don't mind the extra time your connection will require.
Speedbird1 FLY Yes but Im really interested in what people do down in Johannesburg
@@totenkopfkatzen6904 maybe other viewers could comment with their own experience
TotenkopfKatzen idk people live there. Big business capital etc etc
British Airways Buisness class is really not worth your money, I’ve tried it and didn’t quite like the experience. Nice video though :)
If you can get BA business class at a good date then it s worth it. I really like BAs First class. Which other airline you experience or would recommend? Or any niche airlines you enjoyed? Thanks for watching and sharing your nice comment. Much appreciated 😀👍
Emirates ❤️
delectable meal Service although ist not the new Club world way to serve Food. thank you
Thanks for watching Claus. The new "restaurant style" dinning is currently only available on the LHR-JFK route, BA plans to roll it out across the airline’s long-haul network throughout 2018. My next long haul in CW is in January so hopefully I'll get to enjoy it (otherwise it will be for a another flight :-). The White Company bedding sounds good too. Feels free to subscribe to my channel and click on the bell icon for more updates
Really not a fan of BA's seat configuration.
Agree other OneWorld airlines offer seat configuration
Cabin Crew "Were" not "Was"
Good spot. Thanks for bring it to my attention
Not a problem, great vlog!
Thank you.I really appreciate any feedback. I only started posting videos about a year ago and it's been a great journey
nice video but terrible design in the bc cabin
Thanks for watching and your nice feedback.
What is your favourite business class?
Great video as always! BA should really step up their game on the international business class product.
They are now with the Club Suites
@@Speedbird1FLY Just flew BA169 DFW-LHR, new Club Suites.. Not noticeably better, but at least it was 1-2-1 seating.
@@madalamzungu1063 bit more privacy and more in line with key competitors. I am yet to try it and flights booked for next Spring to the US
