  • I took my Evo to AP Tuning in Norwich, England for some power upgrades, consisting of an MHI Turbo, Exedy twin plate clutch and lightened flywheel and a JMF exhaust manifold.. I also had the guys at APT fit some more JD Customs titanium hardware.

    Noticed the bov sound difference straight away! Sounds fantastic! Think you'll ever want more power, around 600hp? Think the power your at is a good compromise for reliability/ driveability though

      @ThatEvoVII  3 месяца назад +3

      Yeah, I noticed the sound was different out of the exhaust when they drove it off of the dyno. The BOV though is totally unrecognisable to how it did sound.. The engine is fully forged so it could handle 600+, but to be honest I don’t think it needs anymore, plus I don’t want to end up chasing the weak points due to reliability issues. I think middle power at 445 is great for twisty B roads though, and full boost for straight line speed.

    My favourite sounding evo, and great numbers Kev, bet she's a blast to drive! Didn't realise you had an evo youtube too :)

      Ahh thx matey! Yeah it’s an absolute blast to drive, it sounds so different as well.. Yeah it don’t really promote my RUclips channels tbh, maybe I should 😉👍
      I’ve just subbed back, I’ll take a look in a bit when I’m home!

    How much boost on each power level?
    And also what is the wheel horse power?
    Or with what percentage he calculate the loses from crank to wheels?

    • @ThatEvoVII
      @ThatEvoVII  3 месяца назад

      Hi, I’m not 100% sure on the boost numbers, I forgot to ask to be honest.. We don’t usually measure whp here in the UK, but I’d guess it’d be around 400 once it’s gone through the transmission.. The torque is what makes it fun! 😎👌

    • @bmwe-op4jx
      @bmwe-op4jx 3 месяца назад +1

      @@ThatEvoVII from my experience evos loses are close to 80-90 hp
      So 400 +- whp
      Solid numbers on pump 98

      @ThatEvoVII  3 месяца назад

      @@bmwe-op4jx Yep, that’s what I would’ve thought.. But we do have 99 on the pump here, I’d like to try it on E85 but you can’t get it on the pump here.

    Congrats with the new upgrade.
    Good job from AP Tuning.
    Maybe a track day could be fun.

      Yes! It certainly would.. But I’d be nervous of everyone else on the track! I’d hate to have it damaged because of someone else, but never say never!

    Nice upgrade. What do they say that turbo is good up to ? I was considering the rosssport direct bolt on turbo. Or the precision 5558 turbo kit they do as the difference is nothing if you want to change the manifold as well. Looks and sounds like it’s a great power level to be at

    • @5372john

      What do you think of the clutch as well ?

    • @ThatEvoVII
      @ThatEvoVII  3 месяца назад +2

      @@5372john Hi there, I was told by some people the turbo is only good for about 470, but I guess it all depends on the supporting mods and who’s tuning it. So for it to make almost 485 is fantastic in my opinion, there’s virtually zero lag and it sounds amazing.. even the exhaust note has changed, the power it’s at right now is perfect for me, plus I have the option to turn it down if I want to. As for the clutch initially it only felt a bit heavier which I was ok with, but after a couple of days of driving I’ve come to realise you need to rev it a bit more to get away from junctions if you’re on a hill (I’ve stalled it a couple of times 🤦‍♂️), it’s definitely more aggressive in that respect compared to my old RTS organic clutch which was very light to use.. But I’ll get used to it 😎👍

    • @5372john
      @5372john 3 месяца назад +1

      @@ThatEvoVIIoh yeah absolutely almost 485 is great power. Is yours a stock 2L forged or a long rod setup ? I’ll be going with the same clutch I think in the future.

    • @ThatEvoVII
      @ThatEvoVII  3 месяца назад

      @@5372john yep, I’m still 2.0 which was fully forged by APT a few years ago.. you won’t be disappointed with the exedy clutch, it just needs a bit more revs when pulling away.
