Well...I appeared in 'Shake Hands Forever' with George himself. On meeting George, I didn't know his name, and I had to ask him...George responded with a great smile, looked down at me, and said: George Baker! I will take that meeting for the rest of my days...GB?..a total gentleman...Thank you and sleep well my friend...
Oh wow!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your experience of meeting George - I have a huge admiration for him, both his work and his apparent generous and kind personality - this is such a cool story - did you continue with your acting career? xxxx
Thank you so much. I am always quite sad when a grave is not really taken care of, especially with someone so well known. Is it that difficult to visit now and again and pay a bit of respect, especially when they had a big family? Very sad! Thank you for taking him flowers. Bless you.
Very sad, according to you and as you clearly imply, famous people are more important. Baker was a solid actor, not someone who made a major contribution to society. Clearly, his family doesn't suffer practice idolatry.
A fellow "zemljak" of mine. I was born in Varna too. His parents were very respected in the old country - they were personal acquaintances of Tzar Boris. His mother Eva for 15 years worked for the Bulgarian Red Cross.
How wonderful to connect with a fellow 'zemljak' such as George! It’s fascinating to hear about George Baker's family background and their connection to Tzar Boris. His mother’s dedication to the Bulgarian Red Cross is truly commendable. Thank you for sharing this interesting insight! xxxx
A superb actor and i will never forget his role as Mr. Lewis the store manager in that classic scene with Michael Crawford in Some Mother's Do 'Ave' Em. Comedy gold. R.I.P GB.
A lovely tribute to the man who played Inspector Reg Wexford for the best part of 13 years. There was a certain sense of charisma about him which just made you want to spend time with him. I think he'd be proud to be remembered Goodbye Mr Baker, we still miss you dearly ❤ 😊
He truly brought something special to Inspector Reg Wexford, and his charisma made him such a memorable character. Although my favourite is of course George in Tread Softly Stranger! Thank you so much for your comment and for watching! xxxx

You are absolutely the best thing on RUclips, and I'm so happy to have discovered all your videos on these amazing actors lives. It's nice to see that someone visits their final resting place. I have to admit I have only seen George Baker on TV, and watch him as Chief Inspector Wexford often. In fact we watched him only last night. You have introduced us to so many wonderful films and television that we look forward to seeing for the first time, and revisiting many we have already enjoyed.

Wonderful. He was good in cameo roles too. I really like the episode of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, where he interviews Frank Spencer for a salesman's job. Hilarious. And you can see him struggling not to laugh. This episode also has brief appearances by the beautiful Linda Hayden, who's happily still alive! X
He was! I thought he was so good when he was younger - and just kept getting better really - a brilliant actor - I haven't seen the Some Mothers Do Ave Em episode with him - or having said that its possible I have but it was so long ago and I'm always watching films and old television - but I don't recall it! I shall see if I can find it - Linda Hayden was amazing - she worked with Diana Dors in Baby Love xxx

What a lovely graveyard to be buried in. Once again, what a shame for another famous person with a shabby headstone. Lovely informative video again. Thanks.
It is very pretty - especially with all the fallen golden leaves 🍁🍂🍁 the headstone could certainly do with a nice clean - it’s under quite a large tree so to a certain extent it’s protected from the elements but has got to a point where a clean would be nice x thank you so much for watching x
Another beautiful and well researched video with a captivating narration!. George certainly lived life to the full, although I'm not keen on folk who cheat on their partners.

I never knew George Baker was so handsome and tall no wonder Ian Fleming wanted him to play Bond obviously he didn't get the role but he did appear in 3 Bond films I also remember him in Some Mothers Do Av'Em Frank Spencer nearly giving George a nervous breakdown. Great video well narrated.

Like most of us of a certain vintage I remember George Baker well. I especially liked the Wexford TV series. This was centred in and around Romsey in Hampshire. My brother who lives nearby often found a street or place off limits for filming. Thank you yet again.
It was a brilliant series! For me George was absolute perfection with Dors in Tread Softly ❤️❤️❤️ I’ve watched it a thousand times and never get bored of it 🤭 Thank you so much for watching! X
Didnt recognise him until he got older. yea ! great actor, so sad about his family members dying so close together, were do you get the strength to get through that, losing one is bad enough. thanks for these its great Learning about there backgrounds even though its sometimes tragic, you sometimes think you are hard done by until you hear about other peoples backgrounds x
Yes!!! I think sometimes you look at celebrities/actors like George and think they were dealt such a lucky hand - good looks, talent - charisma and success - and then you look closer and realise they too have had struggles and faced the hardest and most painful of times x

Thank you so much! I adored George Baker - he was such a great actor and I thought there was such sizzling chemistry between him and Diana Dors in Tread Softly Stranger! Fabulous film ❤️
Thank you for a beautifully done video and tribute to George and for showing us his last resting place. As an eleven year old in 1958, he was my hero in and as THE MOONRAKER, in which he starred with Sylvia Syms, who recently left us. They are reunited now in heaven. He was The Fastest Sword Alive and could take on half a dozen Roundheads at once and send them all packing. I do wish I could have met him and talked to him before he left us.
I didn't know much about George Baker, just the inspector Wexford character. Such a sad story. Yet again thankyou shar for another informative, interesting video x
You’re so welcome Zoe! Thank you for watching! George was always one of my favourite Diana Dors leading men! He had such charisma and there was a real spark between them - they were friends for over 40yrs ❤️
Apart from Wexford, I remember George's appearance in Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em, I believe it was the very first episode. His character started off so well, by the time Frank had done his magic poor George had lost his staff, had a broken lift and was on his way to a nervous breakdown!
For a man to lose three wives Is almost unheard of except I suppose Henry the 8th case. I think George redeemed himself in the end And we are all only human. The flowers as is the grave quite lovely. Best wishes.
Yes! I think it was so sad - I know some people wouldn’t look favourably on his chequered history with the women in his life but I feel he knew he’d not done right by his first wife - he admitted it and he regretted what many would consider his bad behaviour - and I completely agree with you we are all human - it’s easy to judge and the thing is everyone is judged by different standards! As the old saying goes ‘you can’t please everyone’ and it’s true! Thank you so much for watching! And for your lovely comment ❤️🌹
Another beautifully told and wonderfully researched life story. I so love listening to you. The triumph over tragedy you describe with such insight affects me profoundly. Thank you so much!
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre Good evening.. Yes, he certainly was a splendid actor. The first film I remember him in was Dambusters from 1955 in which he played David Maltby who breached the Monhe Dam but was tragically kilked a few months later.
I had no idea of George's life before Wexford. Maybe because I'm in Australia. I thoroughly enjoyed the Inspector Wexford series and would love to see it re-run on our ABC.
Great actor. He starred in so many things, but I always remember his suffering at the hands of Frank Spencer in an episode of Some Mothers Do Have 'Em.
Thank you so much - I appreciate that! George truly was an excellent actor - I always loved the chemistry between him and Diana Dors in Tread Softly Stranger! 🌹

I was left with a lot of pieces and spend my days trying to put them back together. Enjoyed your video: I’m an American who watches British mysteries all the time and I especially liked DCI Wexford!
@@QueenBee-gx4rp it’s a beautiful quote and very inspirational ❤️ I’m so sorry to hear you lost your husband and so recently too 🌹 such a painful time x Thank you so much for watching the video - I too love watching detective mysteries and DI Wexford was such a great character ❤️🌹
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre Thank you, losing your soulmate of 40 years is like being hit by a truck. But all these great shows from Britain have helped me get through the long evenings….keeps my mind occupied. Wish they could discover a whole new bunch of Wexford mysteries!
I’m glad our shows are helping - 40 years is both a long time and yet no time at all ❤️ We do have some good old fashioned mysteries - I know what you mean about discovering new unseen episodes of Wexford! I am a huge fan of an old British series called Public Eye - with Alfred Burke playing Frank Marker - I’ve seen every episode several times over - can’t get enough of it - wish they discovered a whole unseen batch of episodes too! 🌹
Thanks for another interesting bio of a familiar British actor. I feel sorry for the first wife. Men shouldn't marry young, I reckon. Oh, and he was once up for the part of James Bond, and appeared in OHMSS, dubbing for George Lazenby at some points.
Thank you so much! Yes it can’t have been easy for Julia left with four children - but he did support them from what I have read and they remained friends until her death x Yes!!!! He was
I think many of the older stars are in more films than they were credited for - that takes some serious time and research to find such appearances - so always very exciting when you hear about films like this! Thank you!
I am surprised that many of the grave stones a very understate very basic some of them I would have thought they would be more elaborate for the star that they were regards john
Love your videos so much, informative and respectful. George is excellent in the Paul Temple episode Games People Play from 1970 , which is on RUclips. All the best from The Isle Of Wight.❤️
Remember him well as the evil Emperor Tiberius in I, Claudius in the 1970’s. Think he may have been in James Bond as well as I remember him in a naval uniform. Thank again for taking the trouble to go to their graves and remember them even if their families don’t seem to.
Yes!!! He was brilliant in that - I think he was in James Bond yes and at one time he was also considered to play James Bond! Thank you so much for watching - it’s a pleasure and a privilege to visit ❤️🌹
Once saw George Baker, completely by chance in Highcliffe on Sea, nr Christchurch, Dorset ( 1989 ) He was filming TV series there. There is a Carpark, near Sea / Beach, George, was talking with I believe Director of Wexford. There was number of Caravans ( film crew etc ) George, was in Trilby hat / Raincoat, Anyway, Peace to all.
Well I never! Dam busters is one of my fave films filled with great actors and I never knew George Baker played Dave Maltby. You’ve taught me something Shar
It’s a fantastic film!!! One of Dave Maltby’s colleagues that George remained friends with always called George Dave thereafter because he said he looked so much like Dave Maltby! I never thought about it before but after I heard that I totally saw it! X
In his youth he certainly had a wonderful head of hair didn't he? Personally I thought Diana Dors was hot potatoes after seeing her in a film with Victor Mature. Woo Woo! She was perfect for the black and white silver screen film noir. It was the 1957s "Long Haul." That truly is a peaceful lovely cemetery. RIP all there.
🤣🤣🤭 he did!!! He was beautiful 🥰 Oh my goodness!!! The Long Haul - much underrated - it’s such a good film it deserves more attention! Diana was simply stunning - and very much in love with Tommy Yeardye at the time - Victor’s stuntman! Thank you for watching the video - it’s a lovely village and the church and cemetery are very pretty x
🤣🤣🤣🤣 they were dancing - I think it was 1956 in Cannes - and George said he pressed his leg against Diana’s and she told him he could pack that in - it was rude 🤣🤣🤣
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre Ironically he did "play" him in OHMSS, as he would dub George Lazenby when Bond impersonates his character Sir Hilary to get into Blofeld's secret base.
I wonder why, he ended up with his second wife? He was great in Minder... where he played a villain who captured Arthur, haha!! SADLY, I have too many regrets'... can't shake them!
This thought crossed my mind - I did think that perhaps it was his wishes and/or that he had made the arrangements at the time of her death - as many people do when they lose a partner. George was indeed a brilliant actor! xxxxx
Yes it’s so lovely to see any actor with a long career and live to a decent age - heartbreaking when they pass away so young xxx I also loved New Tricks! X

For a man to lose three wives
Is almost unheard of except I suppose
Henry the 8th case.
I think George redeemed himself in the end
And we are all only human.
He was a lucky chap in love and acting
He was lol xxxx
Fantastic. Really enjoyed learning about George, he was a superb actor 👍
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the video! I’m crazy about George 🤭 he was amazing! 🥰
Another beautifully told and wonderfully researched life story. I so love listening to you. The triumph over tragedy you describe with such insight affects me profoundly. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!!! I’ve had quite a challenging week so reading your lovely comment has really made my day! Very much and gratefully appreciated! ❤️
Great video as ever. What a full and interesting life he led! Many thanks
He did! George was such a talented and handsome actor! I will forever love him in Tread Softly! Such a superb film ❤️
Thank you.
You’re welcome ❤️
A good actor and the first No 2 in the Prisoner.
He was splendid!!! ❤️
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre Good evening..
Yes, he certainly was a splendid actor. The first film I remember him in was Dambusters from 1955 in which he played David Maltby who breached the Monhe Dam but was tragically kilked a few months later.
Loved I Claudius and obviously Tread Softly Stranger. He was a handsome bloke in his day. Nice he kept working x
Very handsome!!! He kept that twinkle in his eye into old age too! ❤️❤️❤️
I had no idea of George's life before Wexford. Maybe because I'm in Australia. I thoroughly enjoyed the Inspector Wexford series and would love to see it re-run on our ABC.
He had a superb career - loved him as Wexford! Thank you so much for watching xx
A wonderful and enlightening video Shar, as always. Many thanks.
Thank you so much Shaun and thanks for watching! Xxxx
Great actor. He starred in so many things, but I always remember his suffering at the hands of Frank Spencer in an episode of Some Mothers Do Have 'Em.
Haha! Yes! Loved him in that! He was very versatile ❤️
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre he was indeed
he was superb in iclaudius.
I have to agree! I’m a massive fan of George - he was a splendid actor xx

George Baker was an excellent actor.
Enjoyed it very much.
Thank you so much - I appreciate that! George truly was an excellent actor - I always loved the chemistry between him and Diana Dors in Tread Softly Stranger! 🌹
I love your work. All of your videos I have watched and been well researched and so interesting. George Baker is one of my favourite actors, it is nice to learn more about him.

@@BeautifulBadandBizarre YOUR WELCOME KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK 👍
Thank you 🥰🥰🥰❤️
Saw George in Midsomer Murders a few weeks ago he was very good
I love him in Midsomer Murders! He was a great actor ❤️
Love George Baker I remember in an interview after I Claudius and all the plaudits he said I didn't work for 6 months. Sadly missed.
I have to say he is defintely on my most favourite list!!! He was just such a great actor - and seemed a genuinely lovely person xx

@@BeautifulBadandBizarre Thank you-always one of my favorite quotes. It really came true to me this year when my husband died. I was left with a lot of pieces and spend my days trying to put them back together. Enjoyed your video: I’m an American who watches British mysteries all the time and I especially liked DCI Wexford!
@@QueenBee-gx4rp it’s a beautiful quote and very inspirational ❤️ I’m so sorry to hear you lost your husband and so recently too 🌹 such a painful time x
Thank you so much for watching the video - I too love watching detective mysteries and DI Wexford was such a great character ❤️🌹
Another fascinating upload.
Thank you so much! X
He was
I remember him in “Voyage into the Dark” a made for TV production.
Oh I’ve not seen that! X
Voyage almost impossible to track down as a credit but it made such an impression on me that I read the book
I remember George in the James Bond film the spy who loved me in 1977
He almost became James Bond! I think he’d have made an awesome Bond! ❤️
Love your videos so much, informative and respectful.
George is excellent in the Paul Temple episode Games People Play from 1970 , which is on RUclips.
All the best from The Isle Of Wight.❤️
The Isle of Wight is my most favourite place in the world!!! Thank you so much for your lovely comment! George was a very talented actor ❤️
There was number of Caravans ( film crew etc )
George, was in Trilby hat / Raincoat,
Anyway, Peace to all.
Would have loved to have met him in real life! ❤️❤️❤️
Loved Ruth rental
❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for that 👍🏻
My pleasure! Thank you for watching! x

Thank you too! and thank you so much for watching!
Good one ☺
❤️❤️❤️
I wonder if George got lucky with Diana as well as Bardot..🤩
@@fus149hammer5 😂😂😂 well - from what I understand - no he didn’t but not for want of trying lol
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre I'm liking him more by the minute.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 they were dancing - I think it was 1956 in Cannes - and George said he pressed his leg against Diana’s and she told him he could pack that in - it was rude 🤣🤣🤣
Rest in peace

,👍✝️
Was in 2 Bond films (On Her Majesty's Secret Service and The Spy. Who Loved Me).
He was - there was also talk of him being a potential for James Bond himself!
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre Ironically he did "play" him in OHMSS, as he would dub George Lazenby when Bond impersonates his character Sir Hilary to get into Blofeld's secret base.
That picture you have got with him with Una Stubbs and one of the most famous actor from Britain todays mum .
❤️🌹
I wonder why, he ended up with his second wife? He was great in Minder... where he played a villain who captured Arthur, haha!! SADLY, I have too many regrets'... can't shake them!
This thought crossed my mind - I did think that perhaps it was his wishes and/or that he had made the arrangements at the time of her death - as many people do when they lose a partner. George was indeed a brilliant actor! xxxxx
Long career.....he had the series New tricks was broadcasted in italy years ago the la7
Yes it’s so lovely to see any actor with a long career and live to a decent age - heartbreaking when they pass away so young xxx I also loved New Tricks! X
Was dennis waterman in that series
He was along with one of my favs the lovely Amanda Redman x
@@BeautifulBadandBizarre the silver screen after the war was a great era for actors and actress
It was filmed at PARKGATE near Rotherham, not Halifax
But keep up the good work of remembering our lost stars xx
Tread softly was filmed in Parkgate iron and steel works Parkgate Rotherham.
It was about a wages robbery.
S D WILDRIDGE. Rotherham sth Yorkshire.
Yes that’s correct - I’ve been to the pub in Rotherham were some scenes were filmed but interestingly Diana Dors never went there.
I Claudius madjick
He ws a wonderful actor! xxxx
😅
❤️
So basically Mr Baker was selfish, self serving, and arrogant , like so many in show business.
🤭 well I wouldn’t like to say- I think he was pretty amazing!
My late mam met George Baker in Frome where i live when he was suporting the local Labour Party candidate a few years ago she said he was a lovely chap to speak to not just about politics.
He had a proper twinkle in his eye! I bet he was lovely to talk to! ❤️
Great
