    I thoroughly enjoyed this video which was so well presented.I used to enjoy Wexford in those murder mysteries.

    I had a temporary cleaning job in the early 70's and was sent to his house in Brixton (l think) he was very sweet.

    Well...I appeared in 'Shake Hands Forever' with George himself. On meeting George, I didn't know his name, and I had to ask him...George responded with a great smile, looked down at me, and said: George Baker! I will take that meeting for the rest of my days...GB?..a total gentleman...Thank you and sleep well my friend...

    Thank you so much. I am always quite sad when a grave is not really taken care of, especially with someone so well known. Is it that difficult to visit now and again and pay a bit of respect, especially when they had a big family? Very sad! Thank you for taking him flowers. Bless you.

      Very sad, according to you and as you clearly imply, famous people are more important. Baker was a solid actor, not someone who made a major contribution to society. Clearly, his family doesn't suffer practice idolatry.

    A fellow "zemljak" of mine. I was born in Varna too. His parents were very respected in the old country - they were personal acquaintances of Tzar Boris. His mother Eva for 15 years worked for the Bulgarian Red Cross.

    A superb actor and i will never forget his role as Mr. Lewis the store manager in that classic scene with Michael Crawford in Some Mother's Do 'Ave' Em. Comedy gold. R.I.P GB.

    A lovely tribute to the man who played Inspector Reg Wexford for the best part of 13 years. There was a certain sense of charisma about him which just made you want to spend time with him. I think he'd be proud to be remembered Goodbye Mr Baker, we still miss you dearly ❤ 😊

I have to admit I have only seen George Baker on TV, and watch him as Chief Inspector Wexford often. In fact we watched him only last night.     Wonderful. He was good in cameo roles too. I really like the episode of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, where he interviews Frank Spencer for a salesman's job. Hilarious. And you can see him struggling not to laugh. This episode also has brief appearances by the beautiful Linda Hayden, who's happily still alive! X

I thought he was so good when he was younger - and just kept getting better really - a brilliant actor - I haven't seen the Some Mothers Do Ave Em episode with him - or having said that its possible I have but it was so long ago and I'm always watching films and old television - but I don't recall it! I shall see if I can find it - Linda Hayden was amazing - she worked with Diana Dors in Baby Love xxx

      It is very pretty - especially with all the fallen golden leaves 🍁🍂🍁 the headstone could certainly do with a nice clean - it’s under quite a large tree so to a certain extent it’s protected from the elements but has got to a point where a clean would be nice x thank you so much for watching x

    I never knew George Baker was so handsome and tall no wonder Ian Fleming wanted him to play Bond obviously he didn't get the role but he did appear in 3 Bond films I also remember him in Some Mothers Do Av'Em Frank Spencer nearly giving George a nervous breakdown. Great video well narrated.

    Like most of us of a certain vintage I remember George Baker well. I especially liked the Wexford TV series. This was centred in and around Romsey in Hampshire. My brother who lives nearby often found a street or place off limits for filming. Thank you yet again.

    Didnt recognise him until he got older. yea ! great actor, so sad about his family members dying so close together, were do you get the strength to get through that, losing one is bad enough. thanks for these its great Learning about there backgrounds even though its sometimes tragic, you sometimes think you are hard done by until you hear about other peoples backgrounds x

      Yes!!! I think sometimes you look at celebrities/actors like George and think they were dealt such a lucky hand - good looks, talent - charisma and success - and then you look closer and realise they too have had struggles and faced the hardest and most painful of times x

      Rendell herself confirmed that she wrote the later mysteries in the series with George in mind after the series was commissioned. Unfortunately, the last 6 novels in the series were never dramatised and Rendell herself passed away in 2015.

    Yes I have to agree with Andrea it is sad to see dead flowers at a grave or even grown over with grass

      The good thing is the flowers do just go into replenish the earth - I always leave fresh flowers with no plastic etc - that’s what I don’t like to see - seas flowers in plastic/cellophane wrap! 😬💐

    Thank you for a beautifully done video and tribute to George and for showing us his last resting place. As an eleven year old in 1958, he was my hero in and as THE MOONRAKER, in which he starred with Sylvia Syms, who recently left us. They are reunited now in heaven. He was The Fastest Sword Alive and could take on half a dozen Roundheads at once and send them all packing. I do wish I could have met him and talked to him before he left us.

    Apart from Wexford, I remember George's appearance in Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em, I believe it was the very first episode. His character started off so well, by the time Frank had done his magic poor George had lost his staff, had a broken lift and was on his way to a nervous breakdown!

    And we are all only human.

      Yes! I think it was so sad - I know some people wouldn’t look favourably on his chequered history with the women in his life but I feel he knew he’d not done right by his first wife - he admitted it and he regretted what many would consider his bad behaviour - and I completely agree with you we are all human - it’s easy to judge and the thing is everyone is judged by different standards! As the old saying goes ‘you can’t please everyone’ and it’s true!

      Yes, he certainly was a splendid actor. The first film I remember him in was Dambusters from 1955 in which he played David Maltby who breached the Monhe Dam but was tragically kilked a few months later.

    Love George Baker I remember in an interview after I Claudius and all the plaudits he said I didn't work for 6 months. Sadly missed.

      I’m glad our shows are helping - 40 years is both a long time and yet no time at all ❤️ We do have some good old fashioned mysteries - I know what you mean about discovering new unseen episodes of Wexford! I am a huge fan of an old British series called Public Eye - with Alfred Burke playing Frank Marker - I’ve seen every episode several times over - can’t get enough of it - wish they discovered a whole unseen batch of episodes too! 🌹

    Thanks for another interesting bio of a familiar British actor. I feel sorry for the first wife. Men shouldn't marry young, I reckon. Oh, and he was once up for the part of James Bond, and appeared in OHMSS, dubbing for George Lazenby at some points.

    Remember him well as the evil Emperor Tiberius in I, Claudius in the 1970’s. Think he may have been in James Bond as well as I remember him in a naval uniform. Thank again for taking the trouble to go to their graves and remember them even if their families don’t seem to.

    Once saw George Baker, completely by chance in Highcliffe on Sea, nr Christchurch, Dorset ( 1989 ) He was filming TV series there.
    There is a Carpark, near Sea / Beach, George, was talking with I believe Director of Wexford.
    There was number of Caravans ( film crew etc )
    George, was in Trilby hat / Raincoat,
    Anyway, Peace to all.

      It’s a fantastic film!!! One of Dave Maltby’s colleagues that George remained friends with always called George Dave thereafter because he said he looked so much like Dave Maltby! I never thought about it before but after I heard that I totally saw it! X

    In his youth he certainly had a wonderful head of hair didn't he? Personally I thought Diana Dors was hot potatoes after seeing her in a film with Victor Mature. Woo Woo! She was perfect for the black and white silver screen film noir. It was the 1957s "Long Haul." That truly is a peaceful lovely cemetery. RIP all there.

Diana was simply stunning - and very much in love with Tommy Yeardye at the time - Victor’s stuntman!       This thought crossed my mind - I did think that perhaps it was his wishes and/or that he had made the arrangements at the time of her death - as many people do when they lose a partner. George was indeed a brilliant actor! xxxxx

    Tread softly was filmed in Parkgate iron and steel works Parkgate Rotherham.
    It was about a wages robbery.

      Yes that’s correct - I’ve been to the pub in Rotherham were some scenes were filmed but interestingly Diana Dors never went there.

    My late mam met George Baker in Frome where i live when he was suporting the local Labour Party candidate a few years ago she said he was a lovely chap to speak to not just about politics.
