Everyone loved Janitor so much they made him real, also quite often the script just said 'whatever Neil says'
That is absolutely fantastic 😍
Neil Flynn, the janitor, was such a great improv actor that the script frequently said "Neil says something funny here". They knew whatever they wrote, Neil would one up them times 10.
The DVD has loads of the "alternative" lines, and loads are him and very funny what they cut
Scrubs has got to be my all time favourite TV show, and it's such a pleasure to re-watch these with you. Have a great day!
Thank you! You too!!
It's strange to me that not more people react to this show on RUclips. It was massively successful when it aired first and it's still a great show.
10:21 Trivia fact: In that scene, everyone is on a board, being pulled, except Sarah Chalke (Elliot), who is a very good roller skater (she used to show up to set on skates) and she used that skill in the scene, to give it a much better illusion of them "drifting by".
IIRC she's also a fluent German speaker (and pretty close to that level in French, too), which she makes use of occasionally in the show.
I LOVE that trivia 😍❤
@@f0rth3l0v30fchr15t they absolutely do. She is canadian, and can speak English, German and French equally. Later on there is an episode, where Dr. Cox will deeply regret messing with her, due to the German.
I understand the potential copyright issues with Colin Hay's guest appearance and his music, but that was my favorite part of this episode. Still, great review!
When Dr. Cox smashes the guitar 🤣
I knowwww! I absolutely adore Colin Hay and this song ❤️ thank you for the support!
@@auslandermercury972 "I have other songs you know." XD
Relationship mind reading is my worst nightmare. People that expect me to read their minds are bad enough, but the ones that think they can read mine are even worse.
There's a show about when Doctor Cox retires and goes into witness protection, probably because of something Jordan did, and ends up becoming the sheriff of a small town and fighting monsters. It's called "Stan Against Evil," and it's a hoot.
I should probably lose a few pounds, I have an inappropriate attraction to my physical therapist, I can't find my keys, and my Nintendo data got erased.
You're absolutely right, having to read someone's thoughts would be like walking on eggshels the entire time.
No one should get into the habit of presuming to know other's thoughts either. It's a recipe for desaster. :D
No My Overkill? AWWW! I guess that's got something to do with copyrights and such. I didn't know if that drug fever was a thing or not, thanks for clearing that up.
I know!!!! Yes! Copyright issues! But I sang along to the song the whole time 😝
From what I remembered, the Janitor started out for most of the first season as a figment of JD's imagination, but it was towards the middle or end of season 1 when they decided to make him real.
This is easily some of the best reaction content I've seen. Empathetic, educational, insightful, and delightful. ^_^
Wow, thank you so much! ❤️
3:52 In a later episode we learn that back when he was still with Jordan, Dr. Cox opened up to one of his intern about the fact that his marriage was going through a rough patch, and said intern went to sleep with Jordan behind his back.
So, while JD did nothing wrong (aside from laying with a patient) since Cox and Jordan are currently separated and he didn't even know that Jordan was Dr. Cox's ex-wife, a intern sleeping with her is probably a pet-peeve for Cox.
Scrubs is so great. Good reaction video as well.
Thank you!! ❤️
Janitor interacts with several characters in season 1. The whole thing with him being a figment is fun, but didn’t hold up as a theory.
I think I remember Bill Lawrence liking the idea though and wanting to reshoot the show that way or joking about it at least XD
Do you happen to remember a particular episode or character? I'd like to look it up. And I'm not trying to call you out or demand a source. Just if you happen to remember offhand, I'd appreciate it.
@@macmcleod1188 Season 1 Episode 6, Elliot says sorry when she throws something in the trash and misses.
Checking into this, I found out that apparently it was the original plan to have him be a figment of JDs imagination but they abandoned it over time.
@@oscardiggs246 Wait... your first post gives the impression they never intended it. Your second post seems to be contradicting your first post.
I guess what you are trying to say is that they dropped the idea very quickly while filming season one, but they started the filming with that idea? Does that sound correct?
@@macmcleod1188 yes, but i found out that it was originally intended. I had followed the Fake Doctors, Real Friends podcast, and they pointed out that it wasn't true, but in answering the question, i found out that it was an idea that they abandoned.
Watched for the Scrubs; subscribed for calling out Carla's demands of mind-reading and calling out Elliot's mom.
Haha thank you so much ❤️🙏
Please keep doing these I look forward to them so much! 😆😆🇮🇪
❤️❤️❤️
"Is it starting to burn?" always cracks me up!
In the first season he does have a quick interaction with Elliot. She bumps into him and they give each other the stink eye.
Can't wait for more episodes, Scrubs is just a great watch.
More coming! But taking a few weeks break. Having surgery this week, so need some recovery time!
@@JessTheMDoh jeez, hope you recover from the surgery quickly (not just so all of us get videos quicker!). Hope it's something simple.
My last surgery was... wisdom tooth removal - 4 impacted teeth, had to get it done at ambulatory surgery ward at the hospital. 10 years ago (yay?)
Hope you get the perfect amount of pain meds for your recovery.
Thank you!! It’s the start of my prophylactic mastectomy journey for BRCA2 mutation. It’s not a small surgery but it’s not the biggest one that I’ll have in June. It’ll be okay! Just want to get through it 😊
Wisdom teeth are no fun! I did that 15 years ago and it was pretty miserable! 🙈🙈🙈
@@JessTheMDGood luck with your mastectomy! I know a few people in the who have gotten it (I have leukemia) due to breast cancer (yay, young adult cancer support groups!).
From what I have heard, the recovery can be rough, but it's better than the alternative.
I'm trying to remember one of the tips I heard someone give. I think it was use a round pillow in your armpits post-mastectomy to take pressure off of the incision site(s) - you could also get a mastectomy pillow, of course.
I hope you never need to, but if you ever need cancer resources, just ask and I can shoot you a list of resources I have. I have young adult ones (18-39, sometimes 18-45) and general ones.
We miss you Jess
Awww thank you ❤️🙏 I’m here. I had surgery and things with filming and editing are moving a bit slow. I promise I’m working on the next video!! Should be up soon ❤️❤️❤️
Hey Jess, absolutely! Life happens and that’s just fine. I hope surgery went ok. I know you have work.
Just so you know, I absolutely look forward to your next video and keep on Keeping on. I know how hard making videos all the time are with editing and filming . Did that once a king time ago.
I know everyone here on your channel appreciates all the hard work you do.
Btw, thank you for responding and keeping in touch with your supporters.
12:15 I always thought Turk isn't actually worried that Carla will leave him in order to start a new relationship with C... uhm, Perry.. At least, he's not worried while he's around Carla; if Cox is there, metaphorically dripping poison in his ear, maybe that gets under his skin a bit. But his worry about it is that while actually talking about it is likely the best thing, doing so and appearing jealous/insecure/immature - especially since Carla is a little older than him - is what he thinks might damage the relationship.
14:43. I had some credit card debt that I hadn't paid from years before the pandemic hit. I got a letter right before lockdown started saying that they were taking me to court. But courts weren't opened and the statute ran out, so I didn't have to pay it🤭
This channel is so great! I love your insight and personality. Keep up the fantastic work!
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you!!
In the last 6 month i watched every video at least 2-3 times from you reacting to scrubs. Just love your reactions and i hope you react to more. There are so many good episodes.
Thank you so much!! Definitely more to come 😊
I really like this episode because Colin Hays was in it and we actually caught his one man show and bought his CD. I like when after Dr Cox smashes his guitar he’s says “You know I do have other songs.” Neil Flynn improvised a great deal of his lines. If he took extra takes there’s a good chance he would have new improved lines each time.
I luv the everyone drifting scene! Sometimes life does feel like that! 😁 But the issue with relationships is the most confusing! Why... why?? Haha 😂😂 Luv ya Dr Jess ❤️💛
I love these so much, please do at least 1 per week
I am doing my very best ❤️🙏 it’s definitely been less frequent lately. Working to get back to weekly!!
The bit about sleeping head to foot absolutely kills me every time because I had a friend in HS that was exactly like that and made it a whole thing, too.
10:23 This shot was done with people lying on the floor pulling them on skateboards
Really, we don't see any chord/rope pulling cox? I had assumed the were on roller skates or something, getting a push from behind before they entered the camera.
Only Sarah was on roller blades because she is so good on them.
Thank you Jess again. Its AWSOME having this to look forward too. Appreciate it so much. Have a Blessed day. Keep em coming
Thank you so much! Have a great day ❤️
phentermine gets a random shoutout in Mean Girls. I think Regina was taking it lol
Actually their was a scene in season one where Elliot interacts with the Janitor where she spills a coffee cup and sarcastically says “sorry” to the janitor.
Leaving a comment for the algorithm. I really enjoy your reactions as a doctor. You get that the show is going for and don't get too hanged up on the silliness of some parts. Thank you.
Thank you so much 🙏❤️
Always a pleasure to spend a little time with you.
❤️❤️❤️ thank you!
Some studies have given support to taking zinc immediately upon catching a rhinovirus. It's been shown to reduce the duration and intensity of the disease.
I don't understand the mechanism myself. But it's worth looking into.
@jesstheMD just a small suggestion/question just maybe in your spare time do these EVERY DAY :)
EVERY DAY JESS!
"hey jess forget about your job and all the commitments in your life and cater to our whim" sounds really selfish
@@cloud0598he did say “spare time” though
@@cloud0598 is this directed at me?
@@cloud0598 maybe learn a little humor? subtly in language? I'm pretty sure EVERYONE knows we are joking EXCEPT YOU.
I completely agree with the mind-reading comments but for some reason I also remember I understood where Carla was coming from.
Turk wasn't fully engaged. She wanted him to try harder.
It's a very tricky balance between reading their mind and paying attention.
I never saw _Scrubs._ What day and time was it on? I must have been doing something or watching something else.
Hi! New subscriber. I've watched several doctors reacting to medical shows, including Scrubs, but they tend to over focus on the elements that AREN'T realistic. Which is fine, I get why they do that. But it's nice to see someone relaxing and enjoying the show, and making casual comments and corrections, rather than spending a good portion of the video complaining about why it's inaccurate.
Thank you so much!! Glad I have made it a fun and different experience ❤️❤️❤️
I interesting piece of trivia, When Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) slams the napkin holder he actually cuts himself on it and finishes the scene before going to get it treated. Also It wasn't until I got the DVD set and listen to the commentary track that Turk said he was going to eat Mexican food, he was saying that he was going to fart on him in bed.
hey I'd love to see you react to the british show 24 hours in A&E, it basically follows 24 hours in an A&E department in the UK. I'd love to see your reaction to britiah hospitals and how different they are to your hospitals.
Hope you're doing ok and that your life is just so full that you haven't had time for videos. Full of good stuff, I mean.
Thanks for checking in!! ❤️ I had surgery… recovery has been kind of slow. Working on a video and hoping to have it ready by Monday! ❤️🥰
@@JessTheMD phew!
@@JessTheMD been lucky to have only had one major surgery in my lifetime, and the surgeon did such a damn good job that it was a short recovery period, even for an oldish guy like me. Full recovery was roughly a month.
Ps, if you're looking for a great movie to watch during recovery, I've become addicted to The Menu. Dark but amazing movie. Don't know if it would be a good reaction movie, but you could find some medical stuff to comment on in it.
Could you react to Dexter's Laboratory episode 'Labels', please.
Ooh great idea! I’ll add it to my list, thank you 😊
Thanks for the reaction, love it 😊
❤️❤️❤️
All I can say is: Petey, Petey, Petey, Petey. If you want a follow-up episode to this, see Season 2, Episode 17 - My Own Private Practice Guy
Thanks for making my Monday so much better
Aww thank you! Working through it slowly 😝
The song was my favorite part of this episode! I know it's not a medical aspect of the show, I guess you didn't include it for copyright reasons? Either way, great analysis, I still enjoyed it but missed seeing Cox demolish Colin's guitar. Look forward to the next one!
Definitely copyright reasons! I LOVE that song and I sang along to it the entire time 🙈😅😅 thank you for the support!
Love your reactions. I always feel like I learn something, either about the show or medicine. Keep it up!
Thank you! Will do!
I thought I was going crazy for a bit. I was thinking "isn't this the one where Colin Hay keeps singing the song Overkill". 😂 But then I remembered that record companies are our overlords.
Hahaha yepppp…. I do love that song though. And I sang it the whole time I was watching that part 😅🙈
I understood it, as that turk meant trust as in privacy, that discussing his relationship with cox was inappropriate. Whereas Carla meant that he was insecure about their relationship lasting. But I agree the wording is weird
You question why Cox was so upset with JD in the previous episode, I looked through the other comments and seems like no one else said anything about it. It’s in episode 2 or 3, when JD first meets Jordan, at the end of that episode, Cox asks JD directly, “you didn’t sleep with her, did you?”, JD lies and says, “God no”. So yeah, Cox was pissed was because JD lied to his face.
I wish I could do impressions and be able to do Cox.
I get there are RUclips concerns, but completely skipping the Colin Hay accoustic "My Overkill" is tragic. I'm a child of the 80s, knew "Men at Work", but Scrubs reintroduced me to him... A good vid on it: ruclips.net/video/PvukKx68_yM/видео.htmlsi=DFkFAiwTgqoIj4ce
I love that song and it’s not “RUclips concerns”. It’s copyright and the video is completely blocked and unable to be seen by anyone at all if I leave it in, so yes, unfortunately it had to be cut. 😔
I’ll check out the video.. thank you!
10:27 all the people in this scene are being pulled on little trolleys while Elliot was such a good roller skater she is just roller skating...everyone can only go straight except Elliot because she is on roller skates...
Love it!!
In season 1 The Janitor only interacts with JD.
This is oughta to be fun
wow iv watch this show 100x i always thought her mom said thin thin lol
😅🙈
"Usually all these services will actually be working together to try and figure out what's going on."
*laughs in chronic illness*
Chronic illness is so difficult. I’m sorry you’re dealing with so much ❤️
@@JessTheMD I appreciate that! I'm actually doing pretty well these days. And I do know many doctors try to approach things in the best way possible, and fortunately I've had some good team care balancing out the frustrating experiences.
Wait wait. Elliot was saying "Fen Fen"? I've seen this series beginning to end multiple times and I've always thought she said "thin thin".
Also, Bill Lawrence debunked "the Janitor was only in JD's imagination". I know some others that worked on the show said this, but the creator himself said that wasn't the case.
Haha it’s Phen-Fen! 😝
I’m kinda sad to learn that wasn’t the case with janitor! How cool would that have been? 😅
Janitor represents jd’s doubt in his ability
@2:48 Have you ever worked with anyone like Dr. Cox?
The janitor being a figment of JD‘s imagination is wrong. Other people do interact with him. S1 E6 Elliot spills coffee and interacts with him.
There were SO many people that commented that he was. Maybe in one of the behind the scenes, the writers said they *thought* about doing that? 😝
So the janitor being a figment was the plan originally, but they did have a few slip ups in the first season like chary mentioned. You will see him interact a lot more with others from this episode onwards because they enjoyed Neil Flynn’s performance
Janitor was only supposed to be in the Pilot, much like Julianna Margulies was originally supposed to die in the Pilot of ER. Neil Flynn proved to be such a hoot that they kept him on. He had his lines and then his improvisations. Janitor gets more interactions with the characters as he tortures almost everyone. Later on, we learn of some of his more disturbing hobbies.
Also, when handling any cleaning chemicals, he really should be wearing gloves. I worked in Environmental Services in a hospital and gloves save your hands from all the chemicals that are used for cleaning, especially if they are watered down.
Janitor picks his targets carefully. He also has a very disturbing method of keeping pediatrics clean without actually cleaning.
I feel like my providers play hot potato with me, and just keep referring me all over the world. It's interesting to me that you say they should all be working together. My family medicine doctor doesn't want to touch anything because she says the specialists are already treating it... even though they're not and quite a few of them didn't even schedule a follow up with me because they didn't think it was necessary. Funniest thing in the world is that the first time they sent me to cardiology, she said it's musculoskeletal and not my heart, and then after another year of "no answers," they are trying to refer me back to the cardiologist who came up with the answer that everyone else is ignoring... and it's been confirmed by urgent care, rheumatology, and two ER doctors that it is indeed musculoskeletal. I had to ask for a referral to physical therapy to finally get some relief, because none of the doctors believed the cardiologist.
I’m so sorry this has been your experience 😔 it shouldn’t be this way
How's your weekend Jess?
So far so good! Finally have a new video going up tomorrow morning ❤️🙏 hope you’re well!!
Hey Jess, what’s your medical specialty out of curiosity? You seem like a psychiatrist analyzing the episode from my guess.
I’m a board certified family medicine doc, with a very strong interest in psychiatry (I practice a lot of psychiatry/mental health management 😊)
Do some more E.R episodes
🫡😜
Jordan's fire was more than raging. Aside barbie, all was a net negative for cox
I wish she would do every episode from the beginning lol. It would be amazing and a nice 2nd income
Haha seems I’m working through it over time 😝
Jess, did you find the movie Tarzan The Fearless?
I have it on my list to watch! 😊
Tangential observation, you look somewhat like the actor Jodie Whitaker whose most prominent role was none other than The Doctor on the BBC.
Carla is a high maintenance princess.
Sarah Chalke (Elliott) is 5'8" so at 115 lbs she would have a BMI of 17.5 aka well underweight. I just have to hope the real life actress had/has a strong understanding that 115 lbs is on the very low end of potentially healthy.
Totally agree ❤️
My dad was a surgeon.. I became a chef, but something he said about medical school resonated about culinary... he told me that you graduate, you know the name of every bone and nerve and muscle, you know in theory of a lot of medications... but you've not had a person who is sick sitting in front of you, and you have to help them.... the scene where JD is "he's been everywhere, what am I supposed to do?" made me think of that; at this point, he's just 1 year in his career, there are a lot of things he hasn't seen.
Carla was a bit unreasonable towards Turk this episode; but I feel that's true for life, people are sometimes unreasonable.
Pretty much all the characters have times where they're unreasonable in similar ways. If characters didn't have times where they failed in some way, they'd be kinda boring.
Hello Jess
Absolutely love this series, love to see the medical takes about what is going on in the show too c:
Thanks!!
