lol When the question came up about the Giants drafting a QB, DJones did the best 'deer in the headlights' I've seen since Joey Harrington retired!
The joke here is that the Giants original strategy was to negotiate a contract for Saquon and then franchise Jones. They began negotiations with him in mid season 2022, only to have him turn down every offer. That forced them, with no other options at QB (since Schoen shot down Jones' 5th year option) to negotiate a league level contract with him and then franchise Saquon. I laugh at any scribe who conveniently forgets that fact. And to make matters worse, Saquon ends up in Philly for basically what the Giants were offering.
You don't know what the Giants offered Saquon. Regardless of they couldnt get a deal done with Saquon or not..Doesn't mean they should have overpaid Dan Jones. They bid against themselves NOONE was giving DJ anything close to what he got
Thanks for posting this. The fake narrative that the Giants did not try to sign Barkley for the last two years is tiresome. They did. He clearly did not want to be here, so they give him what he wanted this offseason. So be it.

Brett didn't like Aaron being drafted, but it worked out in the end. Developmental QBs should be on every team.
Keep in mind that when Brett Favre was the Packers QB, the Packers constantly drafted QBs. So I see no issue with healthy competition.
DJ got generational money & wealth for being at best mediocre & often poor. They gave him a 2nd contract w a 2yr out. He should thank the Lord every day he got drafted by Giants & Mara family

long term deal? 2 years.jones lacks grace under pressure. doom for a qb. they didn't win with jones or saquon so get over it. and the draft isn't enough. 6 players when the roster is 53. finding a franchise qb is not easy no matter how high you pick.

Jones is what he is talent wise, but I will say one thing for him, he must be very mentally resilient having gone through 5 years of basically no offensive line, no legit receivers, multiple organisational/coaching changes and being overtly criticised not just by the NY media but nationally... The pick to get him was a reach, the contract is abysmal for the Giants BUT I'm not sure how many other QBs would have had the mental resilience to deal with all this, kyler murray is more talented, but he can't seem to take much scrutiny in Arizona, imagine how he would fold in NY. Sometimes, your mental resilience can compensate athletic deficits.
Agree, he is what he is. Unfortunately, playing behind bottom quarter offensive lines have made him damaged goods.

Like I said, he is what he is. What I find funny is when people point out that he gets less than 2 seconds to pass on dropbacks, everyone states that his poor OL protection is no excuse. But when Aaron Rodgers went down on the 4th play of the season, the same people will tell you about how poor the Jests OL is. Hmmm......
@@kathleenrossi4840 it isn’t an excuse after 4 years and a gross overpay. If he knew he couldn’t function without better oline play he should’ve left some money to build around him like Brady and Big Ben did. You don’t get to take all the money and blame everyone else as an excuse for failure.
It's not an excuse. It's a fact. All 3 Giant QB's took a beating last season. Do you honestly think the Giants win the Super Bowl last season if Mahomes were playing behind that offensive line? Secondly, give Jones some credit here. It's not in his character to blame the OL, or anyone else for his failure to perform. He's a well liked teammate. Joe Schoen is the one to blame for the contract. After cancelling his 5th year option and giving himself no longer term option at QB, he had no choice but to give him a veteran contract, which by the way is about $15 million below the average starting QB salary contrary to the narrative. QB salaries are out of control.

Context: Jones had just come off a year where he won a playoff game. That’s pricey territory. I think the Giants made the best decision they could at that time. They tried to ink Saquon to a deal that same year, during their bye. He declined. Jones is the best option next season, and if not, Lock is probably the next best. Tommy Cutlets may surprise people, but it’s doubtful he gets a shot unless Jones and Lock both fold. If they get a QB he won’t help team until 2025 in all likelihood.
I don’t give a damn how Daniel Jones feels. He gotta go.

When Jones signed his contract, the Giants org had said that Jones did everything that they had asked him to and they were happy with his progress. At #6, they may not get a great choice at QB to replace him. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Any Hall of Fame QB wouldn't have any success the past few years with the Giants. No O-Line. No WR's. The only offensive weapon was Saquon. Give the guy a break. Draft one of those stud WR's. Give him time to throw and he should be a better option than a rookie.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'd love to see D Jones got another chance with a better cast. A couple of good receivers and an offensive line. He'll be just as good or better than anyone they might draft this year. Hated to see Saquon leave though.
Will be glad when people stop tossing Bellicheaters name into conversations. As Commanders fans, most of breathed a sigh of relief when we didn't try to sign him. We might as well have tried to sign Tom Brady instead....he is the real reason the Patriots won all those games.
