FYI some of the expansion scenarios from the last campaign start your hero off a few levels in to reduce the low grind The storage expansion is a must have for faster setup and teardown.
Worth pointing out that a lot of the base game scenarios are beat your own score if played solo. That said, the others are so worthwhile that I'm happy, and you can set your own win/lose targets on the BYOS scenarios.
For me - no, MK is one of my all time favourite games and the gameplay is decidedly different. However, this is still a great game and - if you are wanting that exploration vibe and an in depth experience, Euthia is a good call.

So would you recommend this game over Mage Knight? I sold my MK because I felt this game gave those MK vibes.

It certainly looks great but to get it all is quite expensive. The base game has plenty of replay ability.

Is it a standalone or you need the first as a base game?

Typical Steamforged game with cut corners in production and yet just as expensive as any premium kickstarter game.
Those flimsy card stock player boards look just SO SO baaaad.. you have $200 game and double layered boards are behind paywall. No thanks.
