- Hello and welcome to the Baha’i Blogcast with me your host, Rainn Wilson.
In this series of podcasts I interview members of the Baha’i Faith and friends from all over the world about their hearts, and minds, and souls, their spiritual journeys, what they’re interested in, and what makes them tick.
In this episode I interview Dr. Steven Phelps, physicist, philosopher and translator who currently lives Oregon, USA. We talk about his experience growing up as a Baha’i, his studies in physics and philosophy, when his deepest beliefs were challenged, his move to the Baha’i World Centre in Haifa and his experience as a Hebrew, Arabic and Persian translator. We also look into some of the deepest philosophical questions and share thoughts about how the world works, the relativity of religious truth, science and religion, consciousness, and the progress of civilization.
Here is the quote by Abdu’l-Baha from Paris Talks which Steven Phelps refers to:
“I say unto you: weigh carefully in the balance of reason and science everything that is presented to you as religion. If it passes this test, then accept it, for it is truth! If, however, it does not so conform, then reject it, for it is ignorance!”

Really enjoying these Rainn and all the team at Baha'i Blog! Great to hear Steven (who I was privileged to overlap with during service at the World Centre) and his next level comprehension of science and religion and all things in between. I'd love to hear a part 2!
Wonderful topics, very high quality.I thoroughly enjoyed it. Shahla
So glad to hear that Shahla! Thanks for your support!
Thanks a lot for this amazing interview.
looking forward to part 2.
Hey Steven Phelps. I thrilled to know you exist. My name is Sally Qazi. I live in Tanzania and I am a passionate translator. I seek out words which most closely express the original. I mostly work from English to Kiswahili. I wish I proficient in Arabic but I am not.
Mostly i translate institute material and some other Baha'i material. I am a passable editor.
I wish to do more. After listening to you some things are clearer in my mind. Though maybe I must be cautious not to go on shooting my mouth off about my opinion as I do not know whom I might hurt or confound.
Thank you very much. I would love to hear from you if possible.
Loving greetings
Sally

Absolutely incredible. Vinaka vaka levu
Thank so much Naysan andere Rainn
Wow, this was absolutely riveting.
I think Steven mentioned that the links to the Acuto talks are available through Sound Cloud (a separate website/app)
#mindblown
Thank you both for this. I would be interested in any comments about Sagan’s Cosmos description of a flatlander’s encounter with 3D as a possible mathematical metaphor for a Manifestation speaking to humans.
So, when is part two? Seriously! Please!!!
Is there a link to the talks in Acuto, Italy? Can't find. Thx!
Does anyone know which letter from the Universal House of Justice Steven is referring to about the unity of religion and consciousness at 22.35 ?
Hi there! You can find the quotation Steven is referring to in One Common Faith on page 23. Thanks for listening!
Huge thanks
** UPDATE** please watch my recent visit to Bahá í Chicago. I was shocked at what I experienced. I would like to dialogue with any bahá í on the only road to eternal security. 🤔
I'm waiting
You couldn't have been any more shocked than I was when I first heard about the Faith and learned of its loving and wise teachings, not to mention all the prophecies it fulfilled from the Bible and other Holy Books. For me, "all things" were "made new," as Paul promises. I hope you have as satisfying a journey as I have had since 1963.
So, like, I'm still waiting to hear back from you what your shocking experience was. Still there?
