A very entertaining journey & surprisingly straightforward. The e-Niro is clearly a really good car, not just a really good EV. Thank you for sharing with us.
I am in awe of your sister in Law, beautiful, adventurous & cheerful! An ideal travelling companion. Were I 40 years younger I would be asking for her address! :) In the meantime, a great Vlog, very comforting to people with 'range anxiety!'
Just bought a second-hand Renault Zoe. I already know, after having driven less than 300km in it, that I will never ever want to go back to an ICE vehicle. Just love electric driving. Love the video as well. Cecilia is lovely! (and so is Andrew of course)...
Very informative Andrew, thanks, especially as I am considering getting an e-Niro next year. I make your overall average sepped tp be 51.5 mph, it would be useful to add the average speed for each elg in the little report you bring up when you stop.
Well done Andrew (& Ceci). Kia looks impressive. The Tesla supercharger area at Perth also has about a dozen other chargers next to it so useful to know if you are around Perth again. It occurs to me, having been up to Scotland a month previously to yourself, but also again watching your trip, that charge stations need some bigger signage to indicate where they are. I often joke to the wife about doing a "see your car park tour" but while Petrol stations have lots of lights and big brash colours (not to mention canopies), chargers are often difficult to find.
Thanks, Roderick! Yes - signage and visibility is pretty poor quite often. You get enormous well-lit petrol stations and then you have to hunt for an EV charger which is usually even less visible than an air and water machine!
Hi Andrew - watched all your great vids as research (& entertainment) before taking delivery of my own e-soul 8 weeks ago. Many thanks from Herne Bay & keep blogging. Richard
I remember passing through Golspie in 1987, but that was on the train from Inverness to Thurso. The loco was 37260 "Radio Highland", sadly no longer with us, and the ride was very smooth due to the Deltic bogies fitted.
Hi enjoyed part one and two, myself I have been driving a Kona for 4 months now and really impressed with the Car, which is my first EV.The one thing I hate is public charging and the range of Apps, Cards, Keys and alike and I totally agree with your love of Instavolt. Good Job.
Thank you for another great video! However, 1) it's the middle of the afternoon here, but I was yawning for the last 20 minutes as it got later and later (and darker and darker)as you approached John O'Groats; 2) What a disheartening ending to hear you had the granny charger scheduled to stop! 3) No Nick Drake music! Although I also love Portishead's Dummy album :-) Great achievement all round - and makes me more confident about public charging my e-Niro when I head off to Cornwall next year.
Thanks Andrew! I was kicking myself about Nick Drake when I got back. I’d put him on my list but forgot to tell Ceci! I’ll correct my mistake if I do the route again... 😃
Enjoyed the video especially the real time experience. Even after owning an eniro for 9 months I'm picking up helpful tips for driving electric. Thank you.
One of my favorite road trip videos, maybe because l can relate to it more than driving across the USA! Great car & company, looking forward to the next one.
Wish I'd seen you were doing this at the time, Runrig and The Corries are essential listening when in Scotland! Really enjoying the videos they give great insight into what EV ownership is really like!
Great video, thank you for sharing! My e-Niro will be delivered in week 51. Can't wait to drive it and try out all the tips and tricks. For instance at 3:45 regarding the efficiency. Pity indeed about the camera shake, had to look away. Looking forward to your next video! / Netherlands
Loved the road trip, I would love to do this one day myself. The ID.3 looks classy, spot on 🤣. You said it was better to drive slower to get there quicker, I am not sure that is correct. If charging speed is quicker than driving speed then it is better to drive fast and charge often. At 50kw charging speed it will charge at about 200mph, that is much quicker than 70mph 👍
I just got to the point in the video when you asked Siri to play Duran Duran and my iPhone got confused, thought it was me, paused the video, opened Apple Music and started playing Come Undone. Probably my all time fave DD track btw.
Epic journey. Will reassure potential EV owners. Such a shame it was dark for your drive through the Cairngorms. Hope you drive back down in daylight! Belated happy birthday!
Heroic stuff! (Two weeks ago I drove from near Basel to the Midlands in an Ioniq classic in one day. Manchester. There is a 6-CD boxed set of all 24 live sessions recorded by the mighty Fall for John Peel's radio show. Essential listening. Oh, and the Smiths, of course, who made surprisingly good driving music, imo.
Very good. Shame about the scheduled charging still being on though. Been there done that, so annoying waiting at the next rapid knowing you could have charged overnight and saved all that time!!

I'll do my best to mention it. Some networks are better than others: Osprey are really focusing on making their chargers much more accessible for instance.
Robbie Williams' version of "Suspicious Minds", as performed on "Later...with Jools Holland", is a brilliant and funny take on the classic 1969 Elvis version.

Andrew - I anticipate receiving my E-Niro in the next few weeks. Thanks for all the tips with the chargers. You make reference to the route planner, which software or App do you use? Is Zap-map a critical app as well?
Hello. Remember your video on leaked info about e-Nero 4+. Well after that video I went on waiting list and got the car 3 weeks ago. Thanks to your video I am pleased. Nice display, I have sunroof, app, cooled seats which is what stopped me from getting previous models as they did not have them. Some annoying bits are that wing mirrors open when I approach the car. Want this to be off. Nothing major. Cheers.
Great to hear! I can’t remember exactly but it’s in Settings and then - I think! - "Driver Convenience" and “Welcome wing mirrors” or something like that? Have a hunt in there and you should find it.
We've considered turning the welcome mirrors off on ours, but it also turns off the illuminated handle which is quite handy. We've decided to think of it as cute, like an excited puppy that realises you're about to take it for a walk.
If you were looking for an EV that needs to regularly do 200 mile round trips (twice a week at least), would you rule the e-Niro out? Watching the video, was a bit concerning to me. I'd rather just charge at home, as I'm sure we all would? I don't particularly want a Model 3 but choices seem limited for my price range. The UK charging quagmire doesn't exactly install confidence, either...

Valid concern! Ceci’s in our “bubble”/extended household so it’s fine, apparently. I did check the guidance before leaving. As for meeting people, we maintained a min. 2m distance at all times.
I'm sorry to hear that and I know what you mean! The Canon R5 I had attached to the windscreen has fantastic in-camera stabilisation so I was hoping to use that but it was so much hassle to take it off and reattach each time; I'd have lost too much time on the challenge. All the handheld stuff was filmed on the iPhone but sadly there's not the resolution there to do post-production stabilisation when using the selfie camera as it's only in 1080p. I am looking into getting a gimbal but I want to find one that allows for a microphone cold shoe. Anyway, thank you for the feedback and I hope I can find a solution before I do anything similar!
I drive the Ioniq EV never “Public charged” why did the public charge “work” if scheduling was set and yet the granny lead worked to rule , so to speak 🤔
Scheduling is for AC charging but all public rapid charging is DC. That's the reason the timer only affected the granny charging. It also would have affected any 7kW chargers had we gone to one.
@@MrEV In Canada our 2019 Niro-EV's software will let you schedule charging but has the option to run only if you are geo-located at home (or any place you pick).

EV life..drive past all those nasty petrol pumps under big rain proof roofs with all those polluting cars and drivers staying dry then on to the charging point outside in the peeing rain. Why are EV points not under cover?
I really wish you'd spend an awful lot MORE time looking out the windscreen and an AWFUL LOT LESS time looking at camera and your read out, yes I understand your probably on light trafficked roads, but I'd lay money on it that "if" you had a passenger beside you your one of these "drivers" that's constantly looking left at them ! @@MrEV at the exact time I was reading this the film was at 52:48, the lights on The Strathdearn charger were Green/White/Red Spooky.
Stay safe, wear a mask, keep social distance when you go inside or see other people.
Good vid and tunes. Only concern is your social distancing and lack of masks, car sharing etc. All ignorant to those!
Valid concern! Ceci’s in our “bubble”/extended household so it’s fine, apparently. I did check the guidance before leaving. As for meeting people, we maintained a min. 2m distance at all times.
27:38 sorry... 🤭
The camera shake gives me motion sickness. Shame as the video was really interesting.
@@MrEV I see.... learning every day..... 😊 thank you
@@MrEV In Canada our 2019 Niro-EV's software will let you schedule charging but has the option to run only if you are geo-located at home (or any place you pick).

My wife’s little sister, Ceci.
@@MrEV Oh, okay.... I think many your subscribers and myself, would like to see her as a regular on your channel... Such a happy personality !!
EV life..drive past all those nasty petrol pumps under big rain proof roofs with all those polluting cars and drivers staying dry then on to the charging point outside in the peeing rain. Why are EV points not under cover?
I couldn’t agree more. Absolute madness.
It is because water, wet people and HT electricity, especially DC, make such excellent bedfellows.

Thanks for your comment, Victor! Ironically, I'm actually one of those people that never looks at passengers and it drives me mad when people do that!
@@MrEV boy, I'm mighty relieved to hear that 😁😁😁😁
