Just bought a Niro 4 ev, 24 reg with 3500 on the clock, hoping to do a similar sort of trip to see lovely old work colleagues in Rome next year - thank you for all your vids about continental driving. X
I drive an Ioniq 5 and have been told by my Hyundai dealer that there will be a general recall of the 12v batteries. I have had no problems with mine but happy to be given a new one. Love the videos.
Hi Andrew, lots of kudus for your informative video especially for the way you film in nature. Looks professional. Must watch part 2 later. The last time I watched the video when you had trouble with the car not having power I bought myself a charger like that. But watching your video now I'm must move it to the frunk. I'm a happy Zeekr X driver now and my car has one. Cheers!
I bought a jump-starter for my PHEV when needing to leave it at Heathrow for a couple of weeks. Thankfully not needed not like previously in Wales when I ran the 12v out using a ham radio for an hour or two! Thankfully on that occasion it did the job. Now I've got a full EV (Hyundai Nero 2021 64kWh) I obviously kept it for the same reason. So far no issues and the Nero has this clever light-up section in the front badge telling you when the 12v is charging (I think to want you the HV electrics are live under the bonnet) so I know it's being topped up. Your relaxed way of driving an EV around Europe is a great counter to the range critics and those who don't realise you do destination charging or just top up when having a comfort break.
i got the jump pack after you made a video about 2 yrs ago , i charged it and put it in the car then when i went on a long trip i thought id check to see if the pack was ok but it needed charging so after that i keek it plugged in to one of the USB ports all the time . and i got a battery monitor fot the cigarette lighter for only a few quid its really useful to see how much charge there is ATM its 14.6 volts. lovely video thanks .
If it reads 14.6v then you have the car on and it's charging the 12v battery at rate of 14.6v. To chech the state of 12v you need to press start button without holding footbrake on. Probably never see more than about 12.5-12.7v
Great job with editing all the footage you must have taken. The areas you've visited look beautiful. I've only really had holidays in the UK so I'm very jealous. A trip for the future!
The Anglo Italian Hotel reviewer hasn’t lost her touch. Waffles made me think of Belgium. Don’t think ever did a Dutch ferry crossing as a child. Outward journey was always an adventure. But always arrived back to rain and a long motorway journey home.
Been giving it some thought. Even when car is parked up 12v is still running system monitoring ,blue tooth and internet connection ( internet for over air updates and communication with app on your phone. ) Now as 12v battery voltage drops a signal is sent to open up the recharge relay. However in your case the voltage is dropping so fast the relay cannot open and hence your problem. The need to keep an eye the 12v state of health is something we need to learn as owners of out of warranty EVs
“TiPhuh? Why give TiPhuh to rude staff and table full of wasps”!!! The juxtaposition of polite Englishman who is worried about not giving a tip and fiery Italian Flaviana who tells it as it was😂😂😂. Your holidays in the Italian Alps always look so relaxed and wonderful. Would love to have your itinerary and the great places you stay. Aurelia is learning fast from her Mum 🤣🤣🤣. Your tips about the Niro EV 12V battery charger and Infotainment reset are really useful, thanks. We bought a 2022 Niro EV based on your & Flaviana’s experience. 🙏
I had my Kona facelift since Jan (thanks to your channel :)) and I had a warning one evening on the app the boot was open and then forgot to go and close it properly. The next day the car was dead due to 12V battery being dead and I had also stored the 12V jump start charger in the boot! I now always leave it in the glovebox. It was this time I also managed to nearly trap myself in my own car trying to reach across and open the boot from the inside and didn't have anything on me to keep the boot from shutting again so used my car keys, this turned out to be not the best idea as the boot then shut the keys in the door.. hmm I MacGyvered the jump start manual by folding it a few times and managed to get the boot open and keys back again. Let us never speak of this again. In the end I didn't see the point in a 12V monitor as it'll either have enough charge or it won't. Hopefully the EV manufactures sort out the 12V charge issue as it really shouldn't be a problem at all. imo it's not the 12V battery, there will be something in the car that is was left on, a light or door not shut properly and due to terrible 12V battery management the car allows it to drain.
12:40 What you can see that recharging the 12V doesn't take a lot of time. 10 minutes will have it at a correct voltage, and if it was just a glitch and not some phantom drain, you should be able to turn it off and start the car the next day again.
In Germany there are more than enough chargepoints at the so called “autohof’s”. Yes you have to exit the highway but then you have quite a lot of chargers. I personally take a Tesla subscription for one month when I go abroath. Good charging even with my VW ID.4.
I think it was an Autohof we stopped at when Flaviana took over driving actually? I think there were Superchargers somewhere around there but it wasn’t well signposted. Good to know for the future, but it does mean Germany does - for now at least - require either a bit of planning, or a decent sat nav. (Which my old e-Niro doesn’t have!)
@@MrEVactually, the way I do it: I use ABRP with a Bluetooth OBD dongle to Connect to my ID.4 and in the settings I give Tesla two thumbs up and put no other charging networks in the list. This way it uses Tesla maximally. So almost no planning in advance. Tesla pricing is almost half of the rest of the charging networks.
My Rocket 12v Battery failed on my 21 (2021) E-Niro last week. It was down to 10v and had 2 or 3 warnings on the dash display over the space of a week that the 12v battery was failing and needed replacing. £53 Bosch battery from Costco for the win.
@@MrEVhopefully getting the Ioniq 5 Thursday. Trip to York in December for a longish distance shake down, then Switzerland in September is the plan, really want to see the scenery from the ground and not at 30,000 feet
Thanks to you previous reccomendation I have the battery monitor and battery booster in place for journeys. Will make sure booster not in the boot! Enjoyed the video as usual. 👍👍👍😀
After we bought our Ioniq 5 in early 2022 I got one of those 12 volt battery boosters. I am happy to say we’ve never needed to use it. It’s in the mini-frunk just in case. Beautiful countryside.
Having used the ferries across, eurotunnel is now the only way for me. They charge more for a Tesla Y as it’s wide so has to go in the single level train but the experience is so much better than the ferries, except French passport control, which has always been bad since I started using it over 20 years ago.
Feel a twinge of envy watching your trip - however, we were planning to drive down to Valencia a couple of weeks ago but put it off due to illness; I think we dodged a very big bullet there...☔☔☔🌊🌊
Amsterdam to Canterbury is 5 hours straight run including the tunnel 😷 I park at a hotel by the AFAS stadium that is secure, undercover and with free charging. Buy a 2 day pass gives 15 mins train into centre with trams included around the city. Rest of the trip looked great
Nice video, I’ve had the same experience driving on German Autobahns but now I always take the slower B roads. If you are not in a hurry I definitely recommend the slower, more scenic trips. I’ve never had trouble charging in the small towns or petrol stations and there are often cheap chargers in Lidl or similar store outlets.
What journey through how many countries ? Italy, Austria, Germany, Netherlands ... and finally the ferry - great journey and a windy trip across the north sea. I liked the ferry from Hoek van Holland to London a lot. We had much fun on those trips and saved a night somewhere else. And of cause: a ferry can not compete agaings an EV Co2 wise but if you put the hotel for another night into account things are looking a bit better. great series EV holiday series
Good advice about a 12 volt battery jump starter. My hybrid car low voltage battery went dead recently and I bought a NOCO Boost Plus GB40 device from Amazon. Luckily the dealer replaced the low voltage battery later under the warrantee.
Our ID.3 had 2 12v failures before a software upgrade seems to have sorted the issue. I keep a starter pack in the car in the expectation that I shall never need it. I keep mine in the boot which will require me crawling through from the rear seats and lifting the boot floor to retrieve it. The battery should have a date stamp on it somewhere. On Bosch batteries it has a week/year stamp on one of the battery terminals.
I tried charging my e-Niro at Spessart Nord (which you had to skip) last summer. Tried three of the Ionity and both of the e-on chargers. None of them initiated a charge. Was on the phone with Ionity and they could see my SoC and everything, it just timed out or something. The next option, just off the autobahn, luckily did work for us. It seemed to be the same type of charger as the Ionity, but operated by Allego. Of course no issues were found during maintenance in the workshop, so Kia won't replace anything. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen anymore. I can deal with the slower fast charging, you have to take a break anyway, but not charging at all really adds stress to the otherwise relaxing trips you have with the EV on vacation.
Enjoyed part two of your trip with the mini travel vlog and charging experience. I was really surprised at the German infrastructure how bad it was especially in comparison to the Dutch. So weird about that 12V battery issue, I haven't experienced anything like that with my Volvo C40 Twin Recharge, which I have had to leave for weeks during trips off Island. Also I had a 12V battery monitor on my previous Volvo XC60 (ICE) because it would die every other year, if anyone is concerned about location tracking from these apps on the iPhone I just disabled its access to Location Services, I'm sure Android probably has a similar feature.
I have no idea if my 12v battery is the original and my e-Niro is now 3.5 years I have took the plunge and ordered a new Varta one only £62 including delivery. Also purchased the jump starter you recommended so should safe and sound for the winter and many years to come. Loved the trip the same as we do every year to the Swiss or Austria mountains, but self catering and in our ICE! not sure if I’m brave enough to use the Niro as my other half is super impatient and I want an easy life but we will see.
I replaced my 12v battery witha Yuasa 12v 54ah silver battery. YBX 5012 (HSBO12) This comes with a 5 year warranty and good value at $65 quid from the Battery shop uk.
Pretty sure you need to update the maps/infotainment software on your car. Thanks for bringing us along on your vacation! Looks amazing, I’m super jealous. 😊
You've really made me think about our trip to the south of France next year. I was planning on stopping halfway after maybe 6-8 hours of driving,, stopping overnight and then driving another 6-8 hours before arriving at our South of France location. It looks like you're doing shorter stints you have time to enjoy the location? I wonder if we should take our time and maybe do 3-4 hours of driving each day so we can enjoy things a bit.
Our way of doing it is arguably more expensive but I do love seeing new places. Aurelia hates long car journeys so breaking it up like this at least makes it more palatable for her.
@@MrEV Spoken to the missus, she agrees (for a change) with me. I've been looking for hotels with EV chargers after around 4 hours driving and we've found some corkers! Instead of slightly boring inner city hotels we've found far more interesting locations.
Do you not have the FRUNK kit? It makes like very convenient to stow your cables, and battery starter stuff. NOTE. We use the Chargemap card in Europe. It consolidates a lot of Apps onto the one card and tells you which "Pumps" are busy/available.
Electroverse is much the same as Chargemap so I tend to use that. I don’t have the frunk kit for the e-Niro… yet! I may get it in the future as it makes a lot of sense.
Had a dead cell on my Ioniq's 12v battery, not long after I bought it (second hand) - I didn't know. Wouldn't start one winter morning. I have a booster pack but the voltage was so low that even multiple tries with the booster pack wouldn't bring it back to life. It needed a transplant. New decent 12v and no more bother in 12 months since. Warranty on the new battery for 5 years so I'm hoping it'll have a decent lifespan!!
Awwww. Mambo.. RIP, 'Lil woof. Really enjoyed your video, and the fabulous Italian countryside - which looked so tempting!. Your family are patient and lovely people. Would agree with you that the more you tour, the less you stress out about charging. Would however be intrigued to know which "App" was most useful/accurate in terms of chargepoint locations and availabilities and also how widely accepted that Octopus RFID card was, across the various local networks? On our own anticlockwise Baltic/Scandinavia trip, I found that almost every small principality has its own idiotically unfathomable "local" charging points with an App in the local language, that you have first to translate then to register a card on, just to use the wretched thing. Your own experience seemed much easier! Thanks for everything you do, Family EV. You reach the parts that others do not.
A great vid Andrew, we enjoy your approach, the trip, the hotels, the scenery. All good. We’ve driven to Italy many times via Harwich as it’s an hour from us, the benefit is the night sleep and early start but in honesty, driving down to the tunnel is just as quick. We’ve been lucky with smooth sailing! I couldn’t do it in the way home, my head needs a day drive on the last day, arriving home is always depressing! But arriving home at 08:30 would be awful!! Question: the walks in the mountains, are they guided or just well signposted? How many kms? Thanks for a good hours entertainment.
Thank you very much! The walks in the mountains are really well signposted and curated. I understand all the hotels in the area put money into a pot to ensure it's all kept well. Such a difference compared to walks in England which, in our experience, often tend to be overgrown with brambles and terribly signposted.
a common reason for 12v drain disasters on e.g. ioniq 5 in norway has been smart charging apps trying to optimize charging speed vs price, and being a bit too eager waking the car up, literally every second or so.
I’d never heard of apps like that! I remember hearing they’d reduced the number of API calls years ago to try and prevent issues. I don’t really understand why that sort of thing doesn’t affect Teslas though.
RIP Mambo ❤. I keep saying this, and we still haven’t got across the Channel, but your trips give us confidence to travel in Europe. Can you go a different direction occasionally - we will be driving to Spain and Norway (I don’t do ferries). I think we will avoid Germany for now
Thank you! Norway will certainly be pretty simple for you! Spain is harder from what I’ve heard but obviously still perfectly doable. I think it just takes a bit of planning. We tend to end up doing the Alps every year as Flaviana’s family make it a regular trip but we will try to go somewhere else. One of Aurelia’s friends lives in Alicante so I’m desperate to drive down there!
I'm seeing 3.x kW charging speeds on chargers that should be able to give you 11 kW. Could it be that your e-Niro has a single phase on board charger or they your cable is only for one phase?
I realised when I got home and then forgot to write it in the video! Yes, it’s single phase and I’m kicking myself for not getting the 4+ trim with 11kW (3-phase) onboard charger.
I've had my IONIQ 5 for 3 years and never had this 12V issue. It did once warn me the 12V was low (Car Scanner said it was 66% charged). How it discharged to that, I don't know, but it recovered with a long drive and has been fine since. Perhaps I've been lucky.
I’m enjoying your video as usual and I’ve just ordered a battery booster through your link. I’ve got a Tesla Model Y that’s approaching 4 years so I’m wary about my 12v battery. I guess the problem with EVs is that the battery can go much more suddenly whereas with an ice car you might notice that the power might not turn over the starter very easily
You should at least find that the Model Y lasts longer than most EVs. Tesla 12v management seems pretty good. I also have a feeling it’s a better 12v than most cars?! I’m not definite though.
I'm soooooo hungry now. (not to mention the itchy feet (urge to travel)). Strongly tickling my nostalgia buds seeing various parts of the Netherlands once more (the red-light street is to the south east of the station). You probably wont do Hoek-Harwich again but when you have time to kill, its only about 1.5km from the beach....or if you come up the other side of the river, the exhibition/museum at Maasvlaakt is worth a visit., (shows how they've been building the port out with ever deeper channels for bigger boats). The trip from Amsterdam to Calais is only 4 hours, but if you dont do the ferry at least once you dont know what its like. Seems fun. Whatever happened to the 12v Battery - did you end up replacing it?
I got hungry editing it! We will have to visit again and explore some more. I'd like to go to Bruges again (I'll resist doing my Colin Farrell impression) so it'd be a perfect opportunity to go back then. As for the 12v battery, I've had no more issues and actually I didn't even get it checked when we returned. I've no idea what went wrong. I did wonder if a light was left on, but the voltage dropped so suddenly, I'm not sure if that's likely. If it's an original 12v then it's probably due for replacement soon anyway.
@@davidthomas8662 I think Andrew said something about them being "not on the motorways" ie service areas meaning youd have to exit and find the chargers and then rejoin the route. I confess this is one of the downsides of owning a Tesla and using its "auto-find" of the next supercharger. On the plus side, I've never had to wait to use one although on a couple of occasions Ive use the last available stall.
It looks like a beautiful area but they'd definitely drained it when we visited. The hotel writes this on their website: "Please note that the water in the Wiesensee has been drained. The background is an urgent maintenance at the dam flap. The lake will soon shine again. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the hotel reception. We are looking forward to your visit." lindnerhotels.com/en/hotels/lindner-hotel-wiesensee
Married with Italian - eats pinapple pizza - daughter and wife disapprove - I like Flaviana... lol. Pinapple pizza should cost a 1000 euro or more to discourage people from eating it :P
44:58 This sort of thing is far too common for technology as mature as this. You shouldn't have this problem and you shouldn't have to email the company. I propose that if the charging hasn't stopped after 12 hours then force stop it automatically.
Great editiing Andrew, this was a very nice video to watch with the misses. Lastly though pinapple on your pizza and your wife let you live? Surprising...
Your trip looks incredible and makes me want to go to Hotel Peter. Forgive me if this is not the case, but has the production quality gone up? Also...beware of free wine!
Thank you! I just edited it a little differently with the beginning section, but otherwise I think it’s much the same as usual?! Interesting that you noticed a difference!
My LEAF if you're charging on the granny cable doesn't charge the 12v and unless you start the car it doesn't charge 12v. When my 12v battery goes flat I use my electric drill battery to boost it
For type 2 charging in Adelsried €40 (that’s about 450 NOK), I find a wee bit expensive. Shouldn’t be more from 11% to 100% than €10-12, I suppose. And yet: nice video, I really enjoy seeing these road trips of yours, it’s about a real family (#nofilters), not some fake influencer. Come to Norway with an Ev once, you guys gonna be our guests! 🙋♂️
Thank you! My wife made a Norway itinerary many years ago as it's somewhere she's always wanted to visit (as have I). These days obviously it's perfect for an EV road trip. One day soon hopefully!
Hi Andrew and family, it looks like you havent updated the Kia Connect, running old operating system on your dash? Also do you know about the rear camera mod that clips onto the window wiper, keeps camera clean? Camwipe its called, 3d printed part...enjoy you videos keep them coming.
Yes, the infotainment update has been on my list to do for years! I'll film the process so I've just been waiting for my schedule to clear a bit. And yes, I've seen Camwipe and I will get hold of one. Also a frunk! I'll do an e-Niro update with all of that in it perhaps.
Great video as usual.. since part one of this video I have purchased a 2021 Kia Soul and have been enjoying it greatly. I was wondering if you know theres a major update for the infotainment system.. new black/pink theme and full screen android auto/carplay.
Thanks Jack! Yes, I'm aware of the update and I've just been holding off doing it when I have time to film the process. I'll do it next week hopefully.
Hi great video thanks. Its been a few years since I was in the hills there , but it was always white when I was there how different it looks. I have EV but I still waited for your car to start start when you had booster on LOL. You will know far better than I , but I saw somewhere that battery monitors, dash cams, all those type of things can do your 12v . I have a usb dongle for wireless carplay but I'm never sure about leaving it in. What do you think?? We never go anywhere so its not like we'll get stranded 👍👍👍👍
I hope you managed to get to the right place in Essex! It’s pronounced Harritch. All of them are down the east coast - Norwich, Dunwich, Greenwich, Dulwich - all itches, except Ipswich, and even that used to be pronounced Ipsidge! Great video by the way!
Thank you! We go to Center Parcs a lot in Flitwick and that's taken a while to get used to saying "Flittick" instead. I never have this problem with Italian town names!
@ no. Italian is phonetic in its spelling once you have the code, as is German, French & Spanish. English and the Skandinavian languages are crazy! There's always Wymondham - pronounced Windem, Costessey - pronounced Cossey, and Happisburgh - pronounced Haysborough. All in Norfolk! We do it so that we can tell who the furriners are, ie anyone who originates from more than 10 miles away!
seems like the niro has a single fase charge. all the chargers in the netherlands are mostley 3fase 16 amp chargers. thats why its charging slowly i think
Thank you. I meant to add that as a note on the video as I thought the same when I got home. I should have gone for the e-Niro trim with 11kW three-phase!
The factory fitted 12v batteries on the eNiro and the Kona are rubbish. The will 'die' after a couple of years or so. Replace with with a Yuasa or a Bosch - I had to replace mine in my Kona coming up to 3.5years old.
Great vlog and always like your trips. The e-niro does fantastically wel!! Question for you... We don't have charging at home as we live in a flat and want a self charging hybrid. What would you recommend? Budget upto £25k max upto around eyes old
Self charging is a myth they really don't do this ,your going to struggle if you aren't willing to just find a charger to boost as you don't have ability at home
Thank you! I don’t know anything about hybrids unfortunately so I can’t help you there, sorry! My wife’s stepdad has a Yaris Cross and seems to like it, but that’s the only time I’ve been in a hybrid I think. I live a sheltered life. 😀
Our 12v battery is forever having issues. The 12v battery is fundementally too small, is an AGM (WHY?!!!) and has to deal with the constant polling of the internet connected features. One of the real drainers has been Octopus Intelligent Go, we ended up turning off the smart management in the Octopus app for the car. Roll on yet another 12v battery....
That's the reason Kia stopped supporting Intelligent Octopus Go. I don't know how Tesla manages all that sort of stuff with ease but other manufacturers seem unable.
@@MrEV interesting - I wasn't aware of that! Great car otherwise though. Only 2 other downsides I've seen on the car - it's heavy on tyres *any suggestions welcomed!* and a sensor on the cooling fluid failed, the dealer was clueless and kept draining the system over and over again. Sorted now though and generally an excellent car, possibly the best I've had.
In Germany they had to stop building chargers on regular Autobahn rest stops due to a court case against unfair business practices granting access for spots (Fastned is one of the companies suing). Until this is resolved, there are a lot of large charging hubs a little off the Autobahn. But you better use an app to locate them.
It does top-up the 12v every day, yes - it's called Aux Battery Saver+ in the e-Niro and it's on by default. I don't think you can start the car through the cigarette lighter, no.
Loved the fact you detail the hotels too. We drive from Munich to Uk a couple of times each year and I’ve been tempted by the stena line overnight to avoid a hotel and see the Netherlands more. But the cost and risk of adverse weather really puts me off. Previously went to Spain on the overnight ferry and was super smooth on the way there, then the return was hit but a storm- really made me very travel sick!
It's such a gamble isn't it? If it were a still crossing it wouldn't be bad at all. I don't think I said it in the video, but it was the most comfortable bed I had on the whole trip!
My partner was born in England, but both parents were Italian and I'm not allowed to have a pizza with pineapple on it. What hoops do I need to jump through to make my Hawaiian pizza aspirations a reality? Did you hire a legal team? Great video, my horizons have been opened.
It’s the first Hawaiian pizza I’ve had in years. Thankfully Flaviana doesn’t like pizza enough to give me any hassle! If I put cream in a Carbonara, however, there’d be divorce proceedings.
The Hyundai Kia 12v battery problem in their EVs is a well known problem. While it may have more then 1 cause in the USA according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the fault here lies with a component called the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), which can be damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery. In the USA this forced the recall of 150k Hyundai Kia EVs for repair. You should check with your local dealership as it doesn’t appear the UK authorities imposed the same remedy. Further Googling shows Kia UK is resisting issuing a recall and has only issued a voluntary recall for MY 2021-24 EV6 unllike the more general recall in the USA but the Kia EV forums are full of complaints relating to the Niro ICCU as well
Weird that you’re having such a bad time with the alpitronics chargers. For me they’ve been by a huge margin the most reliable ones esp. opposed to the (in my opinion) absolutely dreadful IONITY tritium ones.
I agree - ordinarily they'd be one of my favourite chargers. All I can think is that EnBW haven't maintained them well?! Fastned should show them how to do it!
My faith in the future is restored after your daughter made a realistic but critical assessment of the boat trip situation 😉
When Flaviana stays quiet your daughter steps in to give you grief 😂
She’s taught her well.

Great video, good music choice and good editing too. Italy looked amazing. Really enjoyed the family outing
Thanks so much!
Great video Andrew. A pure joy to watch.

It was this time I also managed to nearly trap myself in my own car trying to reach across and open the boot from the inside and didn't have anything on me to keep the boot from shutting again so used my car keys, this turned out to be not the best idea as the boot then shut the keys in the door.. hmm
I MacGyvered the jump start manual by folding it a few times and managed to get the boot open and keys back again.
Great stuff - as always!
12:40 What you can see that recharging the 12V doesn't take a lot of time. 10 minutes will have it at a correct voltage, and if it was just a glitch and not some phantom drain, you should be able to turn it off and start the car the next day again.
58:10 A Microlino. Nice 😊
had to pause after those opening shots as basically made my brain go "need a wee" :) great video as always :)
That’s why it took me so long to edit! 😀
Pro-quality content!
My Rocket 12v Battery failed on my 21 (2021) E-Niro last week. It was down to 10v and had 2 or 3 warnings on the dash display over the space of a week that the 12v battery was failing and needed replacing.
£53 Bosch battery from Costco for the win.
exactly...
Great video. Your adventures has made us want to do a trip to Switzerland next year.. Rob
Do it! It’s a lovely place. Flaviana’s got a friend in Switzerland so hopefully we’ll drive down next year as well.
Definite peace of mind to have it, just in case. Just make sure you check it’s charged every couple of months.
Awsome video and great learnings. We are about to plan our holliday to Corisca next year. I think this also would be a challenge :)
That’ll be amazing! I’ve heard great things about Corsica.
@yeah! Maby youre next trip? Then travel to Sardinia:-)
Having used the ferries across, eurotunnel is now the only way for me. They charge more for a Tesla Y as it’s wide so has to go in the single level train but the experience is so much better than the ferries, except French passport control, which has always been bad since I started using it over 20 years ago.
Great video of going unplanned ev driving to test range anxiety nerves. 😅 thanks Till family...
Feel a twinge of envy watching your trip - however, we were planning to drive down to Valencia a couple of weeks ago but put it off due to illness; I think we dodged a very big bullet there...☔☔☔🌊🌊
Oh wow, definitely! 😬
Amsterdam to Canterbury is 5 hours straight run including the tunnel 😷 I park at a hotel by the AFAS stadium that is secure, undercover and with free charging. Buy a 2 day pass gives 15 mins train into centre with trams included around the city. Rest of the trip looked great
Original battery at a guess (Rocket) Store charger in the storage between seats. Just right size.👍👍
Really enjoying this ,very realistic..
(caz I like to plan too !!)
Also, the smile on your wife's face on the boat when u mentioned the unlimited wine 😂😊
Have to say that I love the ferry experience. It is what you make it. 😉
Yes, I appreciate I’m probably in the minority!
Forgot to mention that I have put jump stater in the Frunk
Nice Vlog!! Hoping to see your review of Inster soon.
I hope to get my hands on one in December. 🤞
I replaced my 12v battery witha Yuasa 12v 54ah silver battery. YBX 5012 (HSBO12) This comes with a 5 year warranty and good value at $65 quid from the Battery shop uk.
After 3 years I changed the 12v battery for a Yuasa 5000. I didn't have an issue with the original, but it is cheap and the lifespan is minimal.
That's a beautiful part of the World.
Wow the sas from aralia at the end
I wonder who she gets it from?!
@MrEV lmfao
Great! Thanks … now I need to go to Italy! 🧐
I’d go back in a heartbeat. My wife’s family are still on the beach these days while we’re freezing out bottoms off in England. 😩
Pretty sure you need to update the maps/infotainment software on your car.
Thanks for bringing us along on your vacation! Looks amazing, I’m super jealous. 😊
Yes, I've been saving the infotainment update for a rainy day. I'll do it next week hopefully!
Why are lead acid batteries still being used ? Don't need the high amps to crank the starter motor. Could a 12V Ah battery be used instead ?
I’m surprised you haven’t installed a frunk for you cables and battery packs 👍
You're right - I really should!
Awwww.
Thank you! I’ve found Electroverse is accepted everywhere I’ve tried, and the app is pretty good for seeing availability etc as well.
I had an OBD2 device plugged into my MB E220 and found that it sapped my battery over a few days, even though it was supposed to be 'minimal draw'.
Unlimited wine the first smile 😅😅
A 12V battery that has been to 5V is very killed to death 😢❤
Aurelia is definitely Flaviana’s daughter 😂❤
@ yes hopefully it will last until I trade it in next spring. The newer cars have the 15v lithium batteries so should last better too
I'm soooooo hungry now.
@MrEV can I ask, is there a reason that you didn't use tesla open to all chargers? Surely cheaper and more reliable on journeys
The lake is called 'Wiesensee' which freely translates as 'Meadow Lake". It's overgrown with reeds.... it's very much a lake
It looks like a beautiful area but they'd definitely drained it when we visited. The hotel writes this on their website:
"Please note that the water in the Wiesensee has been drained. The background is an urgent maintenance at the dam flap.
The lake will soon shine again. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the hotel reception. We are looking forward to your visit."

Married with Italian - eats pinapple pizza - daughter and wife disapprove - I like Flaviana... lol. Pinapple pizza should cost a 1000 euro or more to discourage people from eating it :P
Dont listen to him Andrew. Although I will say, adding Jalapenos gives it a bit more kick.
Flaviana doesn't really like pizza so she couldn't care what I have on it, thankfully. Members of her family may disown me though. 😀
Oooh, that sounds good.
@@MrEV btw, I got the Kona now for just over a week. Already 1k kms on the clock. Still available for you to review!!
@@AncalimeNL Congratulations! I do need to review it one of these days. I'll be over later today. 😀
I dont understand why the main drive battery cant be used to keep that 12v charged - lovely scenery btw..
It actually does do that already (it’s called Aux Battery Saver + on the e-Niro) but sometimes it’s just not enough.
44:58 This sort of thing is far too common for technology as mature as this. You shouldn't have this problem and you shouldn't have to email the company. I propose that if the charging hasn't stopped after 12 hours then force stop it automatically.
You should give the KIA EV3 a try.
I’d love to! I keep asking Kia nicely for a press car to try.
Great editiing Andrew, this was a very nice video to watch with the misses. Lastly though pinapple on your pizza and your wife let you live? Surprising...
Flaviana doesn’t like pizza enough to get offended by it!
Andrew love your videos. Please keep them coming. A question though. The camera you took into the pool was it a gopro or something else?
Yes, a GoPro Hero 11. I use it for many of the internal car shots as well. Terrible microphone though!
My LEAF if you're charging on the granny cable doesn't charge the 12v and unless you start the car it doesn't charge 12v. When my 12v battery goes flat I use my electric drill battery to boost it
That’s interesting. I had no idea!
I'll do an e-Niro update with all of that in it perhaps.
good man...... doing what the wife tells you? your daughter is funny about the experience of the ship.
😱11:03 12:17 leaving your car unlocked, started and unattended - i'm sure your insurer would ❤ to hear about that...😱
Hi great video thanks.
I had to pause the video and get myself a sandwich 😂. So much tasty food. Would have loved some of that meat and sauce 😋
Love that Polestar 3 so much. That price though. Too much for me.
@ It’s not a myth as they are full hybrids that’s don’t need plugging in to charge which for me is the best option
Thank you! I don’t know anything about hybrids unfortunately so I can’t help you there, sorry! My wife’s stepdad has a Yaris Cross and seems to like it, but that’s the only time I’ve been in a hybrid I think. I live a sheltered life. 😀
That's weird, seeing you charging in Doorwerth, that's 200 m from where I'm typing this. It's a small world 🙂
Our 12v battery is forever having issues.
Lovely video, thank you. Does the e niro have autosteer Andrew?
It does, and along with Smart Cruise Control, it’s very good.
@MrEV ah excellent. Love using it in my MG4 and I seem to be using it more and more lol
Omq watching now 🤪
You're first out of the gate! Obviously you now have the enormous responsibility of having to report back if you notice any errors. NO PRESSURE. 😀
@ you and your 12v, had my i3 for 4 years now, not had one issue at all yet, weird.
@@MrEV but good vid, food looks lush.
In Germany they had to stop building chargers on regular Autobahn rest stops due to a court case against unfair business practices granting access for spots (Fastned is one of the companies suing). Until this is resolved, there are a lot of large charging hubs a little off the Autobahn. But you better use an app to locate them.
what a load of woke crap just build them ffs. Someone gets the contract someone doesn't. That's life.
Yes, I believe IONITY is another of the companies suing. A damn shame as it makes journeys without planning a bit less fun!
Doesn't the menu have a setting for the drive battery to top up the 12v anyway? And can't you plug the booster into the cigarette lighter?
It does top-up the 12v every day, yes - it's called Aux Battery Saver+ in the e-Niro and it's on by default. I don't think you can start the car through the cigarette lighter, no.
Tripple split screen! Been a while since I've seen that. How old is your software? Maps must be somewhat out of date.
It’s ancient! I will upgrade it but want to film the process as well so it’s just finding time to do it.
Rocket 12v Andrew ? My E Niro is 4 years old, still on original Rocket, considering changing....
Yes, probably the original one so it’s likely due a new battery by now.

Must be expensive staying at all these hotels, what is the average cost.
