Specialty pliers, Blue Bird 25, fit this application perfectly. I inherited my 65 year old pair from my late father. I thank him often for these.

Just like everyone else's comments, this saved me! After hundreds of swear words, I'm glad I found your video, because I think yours is the only one that shows how to remove this type of stopper. 🙏. Thank you!

You SAVED me here buddy. I want to add for anyone who had to go through this absolute mess:
My unit was lower for some reason than your video and
For the first part, I used the wrench part of a combination wrench since it would fit, 9/16 size.
Note I couldn't twist that knob off on my own likely due to grit/rust and used my craftsman Robo Wrench which is great for jobs I fear breaking something like that knob. It did come off then I used a 7/15th on the second bolt which I had less of a struggle on than the folks in the video thanks to there not being a stopper to get under. All in all, I want to give a shout out to Watco for killing an hour or two of my life and building what is an extremely stupid design. They have the audacity to write "patented" on the flat part...

Use the wire brush to scrape away as much of the corrosion as possible. Once you’ve cleared it off, use the wrench to see if you can turn the part that’s stuck.
Use the hairdryer to heat up the corroded area if it’s still suck. The heat may be able to break or loosen the bonds as the metal swells. Use the wrench again to see if the area has loosened enough to turn.
If your faucet is still stuck, let the metal cool down before moving on to the next step. This is incredibly important. Penetrating oil is incredibly flammable and you don’t want to add to your problems. Once it’s cooled off, squirt some penetrating oil into the corroded area. Give it some time to works its way into the joint, and reapply oil every couple of hours if it remains stuck. As the corroded bits come loose, use the wire brush to scrape them away.
If your faucet is still giving you trouble, give it a few light taps with the hammer to help out the oil. Depending on the size and delicacy of your faucet, you may want to use the center punch rather than tapping on the faucet directly.
