    LOL! When you said you were going to read Simon R Green in my head I’m saying, “NOOOOOO!” Then you DNFed and I was sorry I had not been able to save you. Bad books are time you can never get back so it’s great that you didn’t keep struggling through it. I wasn’t that clever with the book of his that I tried.
    I have thought about Green Glass House. Now it’s on my list. Thanks!

    Ahhh I missed this. So funny: I loved the past timeline in Shiver haha. And yeah the CW got me. I mention them in my GR review and YT review b/c I personally found them icky. I do wonder if I'd had a warning, re: how Shiver unfolded pacing wise b/c I wonder if I would have liked it more! I'm glad I warned you haha.
    Also... both my adult thrillers are going to be dual timeline :P

    I loved this video! We've had two heavy snowfalls here where I live (mountains of New Mexico) in the last couple of weeks, and I also read Shiver and Rock Paper Scissors, both of which I'd been saving for the snow I knew was coming early in the year. I was very pleased with having super atmospheric reads to match the cozy, chilly weather, and I think I'll have to make sure I save a couple of chilly thrillers for every winter from now on, lol. I definitely added a couple of these titles for future winter TBRs. I'm really enjoying all these vlogging videos! Btw, I also often struggle with dual timelines, especially at the beginning of the story. Usually one of the timelines makes me impatient, lol.

    you at the beginning of this blog is me talking to relatives & friends not in the south every winter. I think they've forgotten that I, too, have lived in a winter hellscape and I now intentionally live places where a couple inches of snow is an ephemeral, special event I don't have to put up with daily.

    I am in Georgia native born so I know what you mean by the snow. We actually got 3 inches in Homer. It was also the first time of snow for the cat and dog so we got a good chuckle watching them react to it. It was a treat but it is nice that it doesn’t hang on to long.

    Always get so excited when I see you've uploaded. Also...your sweater game is once again immaculate. I wanted to ask you a question and I wasn't sure where the best platform would be to ask so I guess I'll just put it here: I know you have certain editions of books that you collect and love. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on the Chiltern classics editions? I think they're beautiful but I wish they did more of them...

    re: your snow disclaimer, I'm sitting here in California going "5 inches of snow!! wow!!" 😂
    LOL that bit you read in the Simon Green book has to be one of the worst examples of awkward character introductions I've ever heard!!! I'm picturing a nametag that's like 'hi, my name is Bitter Ex-Wife, please ask me about my entire backstory and I will explain it you!'
    I read Greenglass House around Christmas of 2019 and really enjoyed it! yes, the family and adoption themes were lovely. I also don't love treasure hunt type mysteries, but I enjoyed the characters and vibes so much it didn't bother me too much. And I was surprised at how some of the big character things turned out!
    loved this - I'm sitting here with my candle burning and this was such a wonderful cozy video to watch 🥰

    As someone who rarely seasonally reads I respect your dedication to snow in this vlog. If your looking for more atmospheric middle grade I'd recommend the Small Spaces series by Katherine Arden. It definitely gets a 5/5 scary rating from me because Arden writes fantastic middle grade horror and each book in the series focuses on a specific season which is fun

    Kitties! I don't get snow at all, but it's unusually cold this year and we're also getting rain frequently, so it's just gloomy. I'm also reading a snowy book, Dead Voices by Katherine Arden (middle grade horror, ski lodge). Arden is a fave writer especially for atmospheric winter scenes and I've waited a long time to read this book. Greenglass house is also in my middle grade tbr, the summary gave me Gravity Falls vibes? but there are many other books before it. The snow at your place looks so pretty.
    Is it weird that what you said about No exit reminded me of a Batman (2.0) whump/ hurt-comfort fanfic...

    I was hoping to love Shiver and it was my first read of the year. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. I thought the characters did read like real people but that they were insufferable and dull. Because they seemed realistic, I found myself getting annoyed with them for continuing to hang out together and being so awful and boring.

    • @bookslikewhoa
      @bookslikewhoa  2 года назад

      Totally fair! I actually found them less insufferable than most thrillers so I probably rolled with it more than is reasonable :D
