Seeing someone read Fitz.... God bless you. Not done with the video yet but I hope you continue all three series with him! (Assassins Apprentice, Tawny Man, Fitz and the Fool). Won't complain if you don't though. All good here. I can't remember Mistborn because it's been so long, and at this point remembering the ending (you know what I mean....and can guess my favorite character) I don't want to! I am planning on reading the Witcher book super excited about that.
Anyone who can make it through a 100 pages or more of a Robert Jordan book without sobbing of boredom gets an upvote and a virtual pat on the back from me.

Love this vid! I have tried Sanderson in so many trials and cannot enjoy any of them. Wanted to but just cannot! Enjoyed Hobbs. I felt very disappointed with Eye of the world also! The whole cluster of books you tried each had it’s own little issues, what a tough group to get through! Good job, now you can break loose from wondering if you would like and be able to move on. That is really a bigger accomplishment than it feels rewarding, but dang...don’t with that...love your dedication to complete your goals no matter how painful!!!❤️

The Mistborn trilogy (as I’m sure you’ve heard many times) is one of my favorite series of all time!! Brandon Sanderson is the master of magic systems! I also read the first 3 books in the Wheel of Time series and had to take a break from the world, but I plan to go back to it soon. Curious to see your thoughts! Love your channel!

I think Mistborn is so loved partially because it's a very easy starter fantasy book. The magic system and world-building are straightforward and readers are kind of handheld through it versus some other fantasy where you are thrown in trying to figure everything out. I love the Mistborn books but most of the characters (especially in the first book) are very one-note!

yeay! I was very excited to see this video because I also just started Hobb's books. I LOVED Assassin's Apprentice. And yes, Fitz, awww, steals your heart. I gave it 5 stars, so I'm more emotional towards it I guess :)) I just found her writing magical in a sense that for sure there's more to what we read. All the characters, events, etc will mean much more when we move on. At least that's what I think. It was a very slow burn tension and intrigue that I fell in love with. Hobb fangirl, 😂 I think Final Empire will also be my last trial of Sanderson, if I like it, I also have the other books. So, I must get to it at some point. I'm definitely not interested in the Witcher or Wheel Of Time. I aim to read all 16 of Hobb's books. Scott Lynch, Patrick Rothfuss, and Tolkien must be my next conquests, I'm VERY behind on my fantasy journey :) Stay safe. I hope you're much better now. Love, x

A lot of these series I need to try as well - I have a Robin Hobb book but I think I should probably start with the Assassin's Apprentice instead. I bought The Dragon Keeper and was immediately lost, but I have a feeling I'll really enjoy the series if I start someplace else. I think you'd also like Terry Pratchett's Discworld series, it's probably one of the funniest I've read in years (though I wouldn't recommend starting with the first two books, they're not totally reflective of what the series became over time).
Also thanks to your recommendations I've been flying through the Psy-Changeling series, they're so fun!

Loved it a bunch. Haven’t started The Last Wish yet, but it’s on the tbr.

It took me months to finish Eye of the World (I usually finish a book in 1-2 days, maybe a week if it's really long and I'm busy). I had stupidly bought the first 3 books in a set, so I read the second, got through it in a week ago definitely enjoyed it more. I still have the third...

I was just talking to one of my friends about The Eye of the World last night. He's reading it for the first time and I read it in fourth grade. I liked it enough that I own several of the books, somewhere in the myriad of boxes of books stashed at my parents house, but I have like no real memory of it. So toward the beginning of the year I picked up the audiobook from my library and I was... baffled. Lol. I just genuinely can't believe that 8 year old me was just casually picking up this giant monster of a book and enjoyed it and the writing? Anyway, all that to say, I too DNF'd The Eye of the World this year AND am really excited for the adaptation. Lol. I hope you're feeling better!

I’m going to start Witcher today because of this video. I love Robin Hobbs books I just finished Dragon Haven. I’m on the third mistborn book and though I love his world building and magic systems I hate the romantic element in book 2 so much that’s it’s taking me 6 months to start book 3. I seem to love his side characters more than the main characters.

For Mistrborm, my favorite characters were in book 2 and 3 lol I will say it is one of my favorite series, so I may be biased, but the first book is my least favorite of the 3. I have been wanting to pick up Assassin's Apprentice though, I haven't read it yet and I am pretty sure I will really enjoy it. I'm reading the Great Hunt now, and I am already liking it more than Eye of the World, but I did enjoy Eye of the World even though it did take a long time for me to read it. I don't blame you for DNFing it though, I have a few friends who did the same recently.

I felt the exact same about Mistborn when I read it years ago - it's entertaining but no more than that - so I was really surprised how intensely loved this book is! Like, did I miss something?! On the other hand I love Robin Hobb's books. The first trilogy has some issues with pacing but I love the characters so much that the flaws don't matter 😂

I'm glad that you enjoyed some of these at least! Robin Hobb's writing is amazing. I think I may have said this before in a comment, but I don't think I've ever cried as hard while reading books as I have with some of hers. I need to finish up the whole Realm of the Elderlings though - I think I still have the Rain Wild Chronicles and the most recent Fitz trilogy. I also recently read The Last Wish and had a good time with it! I do like Brandon Sanderson a ton, but sometimes his books just aren't a good fit for everyone. I have read The Wheel of Time and enjoyed it, but it's been a hot minute since I read them. I think I read the majority in 7th/8th grade, so I can't entirely remember what the writing is like. I'm super excited for the adaptation though!

  • @thewildwomanofthewoods

I love Hobb! Totally agree with the Tamora Pierce comparison. Fitz is probably one of my favorite characters of all time, but the second trilogy is my favorite of hers.
Mistborn... I read the first book and it was fine, but nothing special. DNFd the second one because it's just not for me. I understand why people like Sanderson because his books are sort of like a throwback to 90s high fantasy, but that's precisely the issue to me. Like it's just not innovative or special in my opinion. But I'm also not that interested in plot, so maybe that's the problem...

The Last Wish is the only one I haven’t read, and I wasn’t really interested (even though I enjoyed the video game and show), but now I am intrigued!
I am so happy that you enjoyed Robin Hobb! I have read the first two books and need to continue. I picked up The Eye of the World when I was around 20 years old. I had no expectations and remember feeling like I was in an RPG video game lol. It introduced me to epic fantasy and holds a lot of nostalgia for me, but I didn’t expect you to like that one. 😂 I read Mistborn around 10 years ago and thought it was pretty good. The magic system was kind of lame (drinking metal flakes?), but he made it work in a unique way. I’m surprised by all the booktube hype around it. And not to be one of THOSE Sanderson fans, but I do love his Stormlight Archive series. 😂 I probably wouldn’t recommend it for you, though. It’s kind of like The Wheel of Time... but better.

Hi! There is little plot in The Farseer trilogy, mostly is Fizt just walking around doing some thinking or healing, sooo take that in mind if you continue with it. The next trilogy, The liveship traders, has more plot. But if you enjoy being inside Fizt' head, maybe you'll enjoy the las two books! I know I looove them!

I can totally see why the writing style in warbreaker would make you nervous about mistborn. I like it but I feel like warbreaker is the most different in terms of writing style to the other books in the cosmere. I rarely give it to friends even though it’s a stand alone because if they love it then I am scared they will be disappointed because that’s now how mistborn or stormlight work and if they have a bad experience then they think everything will be like that.
The Witcher show is the first two short story collections. I know you mentioned blood of elves earlier but I think that’s actually the third published book. At least it makes no sense if you haven’t read sword of destiny in my opinion haha regardless the show is awesome and I hope you like it as much as I did! One of my favorite adaptations cause it lets you see perspectives we don’t get in the short stories.
I actually read assassins apprentice and eye of the world in like the same two months and they were more tricky for me for different reasons. I think you perfectly articulated my problem with Jordan’s writing style although I am still pushing thru for now and I love the prose of hobb but wish it had a bit more plot. More stuff happens in the trilogy but it is very character heavy, but it also gave me lots of feelings which books rarely do.
Sorry this is so long lol I am such a high fantasy nerd.... 😂🤓
