You recently got me hooked on Christie, I just got 3 today in the mail. Cards on the table which you love, abc murders which I know you don’t love but it interests me. And crooked house which we know you love and I started crooked house, I really like it! But I think I figured it out already, I have two possibilities in my head right now, so I just wanted to say thanks for finally getting me to start reading Christie!
The joy on your face as you spoke about The Man in the Brown Suit was so wonderful to see, I love that book too. Also really enjoy The Pale Horse; wasn't too sure about the recent adaptation though, despite liking a lot of the actors from other things. I kinda was watching the clock the whole time. I've said this before, I'm sure, but I always love pointing out that The Pale Horse actually helped solve some real life murders when nurses reading the book recognised something similar going on in the hospitals they were working at. You've already started reading your remaining four, I'm sure, but I will say that based on what you've said you've enjoyed in the past, I think you will really like Partners in Crime. For me personally, I would say Death Comes As the End, Partners in Crime and N or M are all perfectly enjoyable. N or M is probably my favourite of the T&T books. Of course it contains some silliness in parts as her thrillers tend to, but I do remember enjoying it (and I'm not a huge T&T fan) and it's interesting in that it's the only novel of hers written during the second world war that is actually set during that war. All this to say, I hope you enjoy the final books still. Your cats are gorgeous and I love the names you've given them! :)

The Man in the Brown Suit has always been one of my favorites. I also enjoyed The Secret Adversary. The Pale Horse and Destination Unknown are okay. I recently re-read The Hollow, and it was a joy to get back to the quirkly characters. Looking forward to part 2.

The "unwashed girls" of the 60s that Christie complains about are from the counter culture beatnick scene, not the mod fashion that we always associate with the sixties. Specifically, girls stopped cutting and perming/setting their hair and wore it straggly and long, which was considered gauche and unkempt by the older generation who were more image conscious. I ran into the same annoyance (apporx. 6/10ts in) when I had first read TPH. Stopped reading at that point 'cause of the science/mind control point she kept hammering long after that nail should have retired. Did listen to the audiobook after your comments. I found the last quarter very exciting. Had a guess who was the "head." And was right ! Very good tangled story. p.s. am sorry for your loss.
Thank you for the Vlog - is that what you call it - never listened to one before or read a blog before either. I'm of a much older generation and still find the technology world a bit weird. I've always been a huge Christie fan. It was a lovely surprise to know that you live in Tennessee. I've lived in Britain most my adult life but I was born in Tennessee (Bristol) and still have family there, and in North Carolina. I too really enjoy the 'mystery' Christie books the most, and not the thriller ones so much. Look forward to part two if I can find my way back here, as I got here by complete accident! Now I haven't read all of Christie's novels yet, but some of my favorites would include in no particular order... 1. And then there were none 2. Death on the Nile 3. Murder on the Orient Express 4. Murder at the Vicarage 5. N or M 6. Five Little Pigs 7. Towards Zero 8. Murder of Roger Ackroyd. 9. Mysterious Affair at Styles.

Hmm so always when you listen to audiobooks you do chores? I often listen to audiobooks and do jigsawpuzzle at the same time. I listened to many christie books last weeks. Short stories mostly.
Which adaptation? I know some film/TV adaptations are jarring and strange, but some are decent too. Example, the David Suchet version of Murder on the Orient Express is so much better than the Kenneth Branaugh version. The Suchet version really grapples with the question, "Would you compromise truth and morals for justice?" The 2016 BBC version of And Then There Were None is the best adaptation of that particular novel ever. Some of the books adapted for the Miss Marple TV series were hit and miss, adding more contemporary views and themes or adding the Miss Marple character to books that did not have her at all. Suchet's version of the Murder of Roger Ackroyd lacks the great POV the book has. Except for a small contemporary flip, Five Little Pigs is masterful. Some adaptations might even better than the books like Suchet's Appointment with Death. It's all personal opinion though, and if you have the funds and/or time give both a chance.
But compare the grooming habits of almost any decade within memory to the 69s and I get her perspective on the unwashed girls. Ladies of the 50s were immaculate. Kind of like when grunge came in I despaired....it was such a contrast.
You are a dedicated Christie fan! I recognize that, while I enjoy a lot of Christie, a good amount are not for me. No thank you on any of her spy/thriller stories (Secret of Chimneys and Destination Unknown will last me my lifetime). They are often too complicated and unnecessarily cruel on depictions of minorities (yes, even for the time period).
I am reading all AC in order of publication and yes, she has some problematic moments and comments because of the world situation (racism, colonialism, xenofobia). But what she REALLY HATES and you can FELL IT is young people 😂😂.
