Huuuuge thank you man. I just bought a 08 Dr-z second hand. It started fine for the first few days but eventually stopped turning over. I replaced the battery, air filter and pil filter and nothing. I tapped the starter with my screwdriver and it fired up! You are a lifesaver
Yes i got the click sound tonite after 14 years and 76,000 km ! (DRZ400SMK5) Ordered an ebay starter as only USD60 incl freight. Will be easier and cheap to replace motor. Good interim tip from you though. Thanks
Hi man great vedeo! We use to do the same with outboard boat motors. Mine clicked today but eventually started but when trying to start it later the day it now sounds like my starter is turning but not engaging. Any thoughts on what may cause this? Do I need to replace The starter? Thanks
Before you replace your starter, try a few things first. 1) Take your battery in and have it charged fully at an outlet with a tender. 2) Otherwise open up your starter motor and find the carbon brush, it is a ring that closes the circuit between battery and starter, sometimes it has been used long enough and worn off that it is no longer in full contact to properly close a circuit. 3) Check all wires to ensure they are rust free and connected at contact points, especially at the switches. If all that does not work, change the fuses. And if that still does not work, change the starter motor itself. It is usually the very last thing to actually go.
This is exactly the problem on my 2005 DRZ400E. I have been knocking the body of the starter and in deed it turns on. But it has come to a point where I will have to replace the carbons 😎
Thank you so so much for all your help and video's. I have a 2017 Drz400sm and love it😍 What's your thought about the stock Carburetor? I appreciate your opinion and knowledge. Ride safe out there and God bless you and your family🙏
KawaSexy Z125 Pro , i think it depends on what u wanna do with ur drz. The stock carb is great for everything unless u wanna race. Then maybe a bigger FCR 39 or 41 would help. But only if you add in a 3x3, 434 bore kit and a Yoshimura or other full system exhaust. Otherwise alone, it’s just a waste of money and gas economy.
Great Video! I think i am having this problem, however my starter motor makes 1 noise and then the bike loses all power. The battery is brand new and measuring 12.5 volts, do you think this is my issue?
Nicole Downing , at 12.5 volts on a stationary bike, that’s a healthy battery. If it clicks, it’s the problem stated in my video. If it does turn over once or a couple of time before not working, it’s likely a loose connection, short circuit or burnt/frayed wires somewhere along your harness.
It's not only about volts. You can have voltage but a worn about battery won't have enough amps. Load test the battery. Check for loose/bad connections.
Jumping a bike with this issue will do nothing, as the problem is current not reaching your starter motor. You can however try to bump start by rolling down a hill in 2nd gear.
@@darieldiaz6882 we did fixed the problem in the end. Found out it was sensor unit got ball-bearing inside of the unit if not centre won't start because soon the bearings move left or right will cut the bike out . Sorry with the spelling
My 2005 was doing the same thing. But after a few clicks of the starter it would start. Then all of a sudden it stopped starting. Just stopped making the clock sound and everything. Could it be a bad battery?
Jonah Nalven , if there isn’t a click sound it means there is no closed circuit anymore. Check if there are lights. If there are check the battery voltage is at least 11-12v, any less brings lights but not enough to start. After that check if any of the wires have burnt out or have bad connections.
Narendra singh jodhpur , you can take any driving license in Singapore even as a foreigner. All you need to do is just sign up for a course and pass the test. But you need to be either on S-Pass or Employment Pass and above. If you are a Work Permit holder doing unskilled labor, you can only get a license to drive if your employer applies for you.
It’s really closer to SGD200 if I try and import a used one myself from Japan or the US, but prices locally in Singapore tend to be inflated for automotive parts. Not going to tell people it’s cheaper and local stores quote a higher price. Better to prime people for worse prices and let them be delighted if someone does indeed quote a cheaper price.
Hey Cory, if it’s a bike that new. Highly doubtful it has anything to do with wear and tear. Make sure all the connections to your battery, harness and fuse boxes are tight. If you can’t find a loose connection, you might want to get it checked with your workshop on warranty.
@@ReizePrimus thx. I put a meter on the battery and it was 12.7volts. Lights work, all electrics work. You hit the start button and absolutely nothing happens! All I did was ride it two weeks ago, parked it and now nothing.
A kickstarter couldve worked. But it definitely depends on jurisdiction. In the case of my country Singapore, that sort of aftermarket modification is illegal and would be troublesome to have it uninstalled and reinstalled for every annual inspection just for a tiny inconvenience.

Thank you. Just ordered the brushes as my drz has just started doing this.

Hey man where did you get then vinyl from?
If the bike is making that clicking noise is that always the problem? Or could the bike be suffering a different problem and still make that noise?
It is almost always the same problem if the sound happens the way i described it.
Yes it can also be a weak battery

Did that fix the problem changing them I have the same 2005
Better To Buy. Sorry
Thanks
THANK YOU
I love the graphics you have
Are they custom? Where'd you get them from?
Yes they are custom. I got them by designing it on photoshop then sending it to a local printer to have it printed and cut.

hey! is it safe to just jump start the bike with this issue?
Jumping a bike with this issue will do nothing, as the problem is current not reaching your starter motor.

Hello can i ask a question with a problem I’m having
Sure
He never asked it.. he might be dead :/
I'm having this problem, i have to push start it to get it
The click has nothing to do with the starter motor, it’s the relay that clicks and it’s under the seat.🤦♂️
it’s the solenoid that pushes it out
My starter solenoid is clicking. Bike wont start.. going to go down to the bike and try hitting the starter. be right back and let you know.
You were right. My brushes are bad. If you want a LED tachometer for the DRZ, I'll sell you one for cost for the tip.
aseredy , glad you found the problem. As for the tacho it’s fine, my DRZ is being replaced soon :)
I'm glad we don't live in Singapore geez the whole starter 75$ here
Sir can I get Singapore motorbike licence as social visit pass holder, I have dubai international motorbike licence. Pls reply
Narendra singh jodhpur , hi, yes you can apply for a Singapore license, take the lessons and pass the test to get one.
ReizePrimus actually I m foreigner so which pass eligible for driving licence. Waiting for ur answer. Thanks

$800 for a starter motor? No way. That's an outrageous number. I'm sure you got that wrong. Maybe ¥800.

@@ReizePrimus Dealer in SG can get it for about $400-ish. Labour inclusive probably $550. $800 is pretty much a private workshop quote and a rip-off.

Same trick works on a car starter but you have to beat the crap out of it with a hammer. You can also use the kick start if you installed one.
