  • “Little Birdie" is well-known tune that, according to the Traditional Ballad Index, was first collected by Frank C. Brown in 1909, as part of his collection of North Carolina folksongs.
I learned Little Birdie from listening to Willie Chapman on the 1960s Folkways album “Mountain Music of Kentucky” and from recordings of Roscoe Holcomb.

That banjo sounds so crisp. It took me awhile to get used to playing a nylon string antique banjo, but it’s almost like a completely different instrument from a modern banjo. Nothing like it. These buckbees are quality instruments.

Watching your fingers I couldn't figure out how you picked out all those notes but you sure did.

Man this is great!! I recorded a slightly different version on my page, instead of up-picking like you I am frailing it.. id love to hear any feedback from you! Id love to be able to play at your level some day..

Really enjoyed that. What tuning are you in? Double C. Are you always picking a string on the up pick or is it more of an up-brush?

Thanks Robert. I think I was in open C or double C here. Kind of an up-brush I suppose.

@@KHbanjo thanks. I always assumed due to the name, that it is an up pick. But brush up and down makes more sense. Cheers
