    That button is for swapping to the next disc in multi disc games, not for going back to the GD menu.

      one other tip...if you are attempting to access the Dreamcast menu to look at game saves on your vmu, make sure that 01 gdemu menu is highlighted, and then choose the exit to menu option using your controller. otherwise if a game is highlighted when you do so, when you attempt to exit the dreamcast menu screen, it will end up selecting the next game by default, making it so that you have to power off your console to get back to the gdemu screen.

    Replacing the dreamcast power supply: a solution looking for a problem. There is nothing wrong with the original power supply. Replacing it with some cheap Chinese crap is just making the console less reliable, and the video actually proves this point.
    Every other upgrade is relevant, especially the ODE, HDMI, and fan mod. The battery holder mod while neat and convenient isn't as useful since many people don't power on the console enough to keep a new rechargeable lithium coin topped off (the battery only charges when the console is powered on) so you will still find yourself setting the time every time you power on the console unless you use it more than once every few weeks. Finally, there are some edge cases where the controller port F1 mod is relevant though anecdotally I've never had an issue unplugging\plugging controllers while the console was on.
    Great video, and agree with your points, especially reinstalling the original PSU. There was never anything wrong with it and the only thing that sold DreamPSU was hype.

    To get back to the edgmu menu make sure you have auto start on in your DC settings and when you’re done with a game press A,B,X,Y and start together a few times and it should bring you back to the gdemu menu. The first time you press the combo it will get you to the title screen of the game you’re currently playing and press once again should get you back to GDEMU.

    hold A+B+X+Y+START and it will soft reset usually back to either the GDEmu or the games main menu at which point doing it again should take you back to GDEmu or you can power cycle the console.
    pressing the tactile switch is for loading the next image for when you have a game that uses two or more discs and you have to do the disc swap during the game.

    I strongly advise you get the GDMENU software my Madsheep. You can then format it to your heart’s content.
    To get to the main menu on GDEMU you simply press Start while holding all four face buttons (A,B,X,Y).

    I just put my ultimate Dreamcast together today after the last of the parts finally showed up two days ago. I used my original console for the motherboard+controller port since the gd rom died when I last tried using it to test a few hdmi converters I picked up. The build has a gdemu clone & 3d printed tray, battery replacement, noctua fan mod, an official broadband adapter, smoke grey case from probably the same aussie seller, and a dreamport psu.
    I don't see many people talking about these, there's a basic version and there's one with 4 bluetooth chips, which is the version I got. I still need to buy a bt converted controller but overall I'm hyped to give this a go. I think I'm also going to grab a modded rechargeable & backlit VMU from the same guy. Dreammods is the guy who mods the last few items if anyone's curious.

    I never knew the Dream PSU used 12v dc, that’s great! I’m working on a little project to have all my modded consoles run on a standard 12v barrel jack, and using a daisy chain adapter, I can run all my consoles off of one high-end 12v power supply, which is both tidier in a setup and more power efficient. Also, if I need to take a console on the road, there is no longer a need to keep track of different power cables or power bricks.

    • @cheerbeerification
      @cheerbeerification 10 месяцев назад

      Dream PSU is a generic power supply and has no protections for low quality power bricks. The better way is to use a picoPSU with an adapter specifically made for the Dreamcast. I'm sticking with the OG power supply and cord because it's a pretty generic cord and I don't want to have the added bulk of the external power supply. If you travel with it just don't unplug the cord from the Dreamcast and you won't forget it. The only real benefit to the power supply swap is the ability to use a North American console in countries with 220V, and maybe some longevity improvement by less internal heat. However, with stock PSU and better fan mod, the Dreamcast doesn't really get too warm anyways.

    There's a 3d printed GDEMU mount that sits more flush with the dreamcast disc drive. It looks more clean IMO and has an extension SD card ribbon to reach to the GDEMU board and it hides the GDEMU from any exposure of objects falling into it, preventing damages. I bought one from LaserBear. It also makes the disc changing button on the GDEMU more accessible.

The main thing keeping me from doing this build is all the soldering work, and the price, that comes with the DCDigital kit. Great lessons learned though!

    CAUTION: Please DO NOT, NEVER EVER touch the capacitors, coils or any other component on the 110/230V side of the Dreamcast PSU!
    Even after days without connection to power, these can have voltages and currents that can kill you!
    Unplug your Dreamcast, turn it on and off several times, then open it up and remove it carefully. If you want to modify the original power supply (change caps or whatever), please ground the components first and if you don't know how to do that, give it to somebody who knows what he/she is doing!
    I know at least one person who died because of not properly handling AC adapters and I suggest Tito to always add a warning when handling voltages above ELV ( Extra low voltages > 48V AC).
    Maybe you can pin this warning?

I've always been more into Nintendo portables and the PS1, but never DC. I wonder if there are any good 3D platformers on it besides Sonic.

  • @enthusiasticgamer88

    I have most of these mods on my project desk minus the DC Digital. I gave up as I realized I really don't like Dreamcast lol. The library does not entice me and the few games that do (Sonic) are available on Xbox anyway. Plus that controller is....rough. I ended up installing a Fenrir in a Saturn instead and using SCART>OSSC. Here's hoping an HDMI mod is created for Saturn someday, al though I've read it's very difficult so is therefore quite unlikely. It's probably only likely to manifest someday if someone does a passion project and sells it or makes it open source. Great video though as always that's definitely the Ultimate Dreamcast.

    Have you thought about dropping in the Dreampi for online gameplay, thus making it even more "ultimate"? Also, is there any way making it able to launch original GDrom? Maybe is there a way to externalize the GDemu, or Is GDemu beside the Dreamcast or offset it in some available spot within it (I highly doubt there's any room left, hence the externalized suggestion)

    I know this is late but I've heard some of the GDEMU clones have connector that are too short and that might be why yours wasn't connecting with other 3d printed brackets. I've heard ones like those can damage the connector on the board so I'd be weary but also since you said it was only a few millimeters it might just variances in production

    I did the Noctua fan mod, and I recapped the original PSU instead of replacing it. GDEMU would be nice some day, but for now I'd rather invest in some of my other systems. Like my PS1, which now has a PS1Digital, an XStation, and hopefully the MemCard Pro ships soon.
    And then they have N64Digital coming out next month.
    And then they have PS2Digital coming out sometime this year.
    And they teased GameCube Digital? (I mean, GC Video is nice, but doesn't compare to the DCDigital and PS1Digital, so what they put out for GameCube is sure to be a huge step up)
    My quest to HDMI all the consoles continues. 🤤💸

      Speaking of Voultar, I also did the mod he showed in a video to add a diode to the resistor at the battery to be able to use a regular CR2032 battery. No more "Oh you didn't play Dreamcast every day so the battery can recharge? Well input the time again." for me. Now if it asks me for the time, it's "time to replace the battery because it's properly dead" o-clock. Also I of course put a battery socket in.
      That same video was why I opted to just recap my PSU as well. The cap kit from console5 is very reasonably priced, and the soldering work to swap them out is pretty easy if you have a good desoldering tool. I luckily didn't even have any leaked fluid to clean up.

    • @mjc0961
      @mjc0961 3 года назад

      Another thing you could have done when you weren't getting video out: try the analog again. If that stopped working too (and it sounds like it would have), that could have been another clue that the problem is somewhere else rather than the ribbon cable or DCDigital.
      On the plus side, at least you found that messed up wire! Get that thing right out of there.

      Shame about the price! I've got the Fenrir Duo ODE for my Saturn, and it's extremely straightforward to install. There've been occasional compatibility issues with image files following firmware updates, but they're not insurmountable problems. The dedicated support from the Discord channel is fantastic.
      The amount of difficulty I'd have with installing some of these mods doesn't make them feel like worthwhile investments by comparison.

    what i don't get about the DreamPSU is why reinvent what you already own. Why not simply implement a 4 pin socket (3.3v, 5v, 12v, Ground) and a nice external shell to just move the original brick outside the console?

  • @marklechman2225
    @marklechman2225 3 года назад

    Great video. Will definitely be looking into some of these. The SD card is where I draw the line though. Most of the other mods are useful and potentially extend the life of the unit. But once you take that optical drive out of the console, it's no longer a Dreamcast, because it can no longer play Dreamcast discs. And being compatible with the format's medium is the bare minimum definition of a console. Otherwise what you have there is a Dreamcast-shaped emulation machine or the equivalent of an NES Classic Edition. Which is very cool, but it's not a Dreamcast.
