    Steve! Steve, Steve, Steve! Single, non handy, mom here, and I was yanking away at the WRONG wire because no one online could tell me where the thermal fuse was and I thought I'd found it. I googled up how to remove it and found you. You showed me exactly where it was and it was SO easy. Part is ordered and will be here tomorrow! This may not fix it (though I think it will unless I broke something yanking away at the wrong wire!) but you made my day so much easier. Thanks for this video!

    Im ashamed to admit I let me dryer be broken for so much longer than necessary. It was not heating nor shutting off. Only tumbling forever. I didn't realize how easy it would be to fix by myself. I didn't want to shell out hundreds for a handyman so I did a little bit of research. It was surprisingly easy information to find and this video was excellent and solved my exact problem. It took me more time moving my dryer out than it did replacing the part. Im happy to report my dryer heats and turns off by itself now. Thank you very much, I think I'll try DIY methods more often now. You gave me some confidence!

    I am truly so grateful for you making this video!!!
    My dryer has been broken since November 8, 2023. It just up and quit working after I had just spent time, and money, fixing my washer. So I just started hanging clothes on the line while I save money for what I'm assuming would be an electrical issue...since it wouldn't even power on. I even contemplated replacing my 8 year old set.
    THEN, I came across your video a few weeks ago and sent it to my son. I have recently had neck surgery so I definitely couldn't do any of the work.
    Cut to yesterday, January 20, 2024 when my son bought a multimeter and checked the fuse. He found one on Amazon for a mere $2. He ended up buying a 3 pack for $5. Package arrived today.
    For over 2 months I've been stressing over a part that took 2 minutes and $2 to replace!?

    Fantastic video! This was so easy. My dryer stopped working and all the internet articles seemed to suggest it was either the thermal fuse or the door switch. I tried the thermal fuse first and the dryer works again. Once I had the part I was done in 20 minutes. Thank you so much!

    Thanks! Even on a much older Whirlpool dryer the layout is exactly the same. I bought this part for about $10 shipped and it took maybe 20 minutes to do the job. I spend another 20 mins doing a through lint clean up with a brush and my shop vac. Last time I paid to have this fuse replaced it was at least $125.00+ and that was 7-8 years ago. Thanks again!

    GREAT VIDEO, My dryer is exactly the same on the back. Tested fuse with my multimeter and it was open. Hard part was getting the fuse! Had to order it on-line as could not find one in any local store (including Lowes, Home Depot, ACE, and Sears appliance store). Did a thorough vacuum and cleanup with the cover off and the hose disconnected. Replace fuse, replace cover, VOILA all working fine again. THANK YOU.

    Another thing we should do while replacing the thermal fuse is to clean the vents. Blockages in the vent will increase the temperature and burn out the fuse again. It’s always good practice to clean out the vents.

I replaced the door switch but that didn’t solve my problem so now I’m going to try the fuse and after that I don’t know exactly which one of these videos I’ll try. 🤣 The pushbutton switch just doesn’t seem to engage or turn the dryer on so I suspect it could be the fuse. Hey Steve I'm a newbie and I love your videos. I replaced the coil pack because one of the coils was broken when I inspected it, and then I replaced the high temp thermostat switch because after I installed the new coils it seemed to get way too hot. The dryer doesn't turn on now and I assume it may be the dryer fuse so I'm gonna put the multimeter on it after work, but do you have any other ideas of why these chain of events occurred and should I check the flow of the lint pipe to check for clogs before I install the fuse?

    • @partselect
      @partselect  10 лет назад +1

      Hi there! Thanks for the kind words. The high limit thermostat does not prevent the dryer from
      getting too hot per se, it is used to prevent the dryer from overheating if the
      ventilation is not working properly. Yes, you should check the vent for lint
      build up or bird's nests, and this should be done at least once a year. The
      dryer will not function properly if you operate it with the front panel removed
      during service, and this may have caused the thermal fuse to fail. Hope
      this helps, good luck with your repair!

    I took the screws off the back of my Whirlpool dryer, and it wouldn't separate. Why? Because the company also spot welded the back on in addition to having the screws. I had to use a reciprocating saw to it. I have worked on other dryers, but none were like this. Naturally the thermal fuse, which was the defective part, was located way under the drum next to the heater. Anything to make the customer take it to some expensive shop of course. My advice would be to look at the back before you purchase a dryer. Make sure it is technician friendly.

  • @melodymakermark

    My dryer vent is on an interior wall so the lint (what the screen doesn’t catch) has to pass through the hose to the wall, take a 90 degree turn and then blow vertically all the way up and out at the roof. Over time it builds up, so I have to go up into the attic and separate the ridged vent pipe. Using an empty peanut jar, (which is just slightly smaller than the vent pipe) weighted with pennies and with a string attached to the lid, I insert it into the pipe and drop it down the pipe. This knocks the lint buildup down to the 90 degree turn where the dryer hose attaches to the wall. I asked an appliance repair tech what method he used, and he said a leaf blower, but I do not have one.

I took off the back panel to look around but the heating element is wedged too well to get it out for a look over. it's a LHE6900N0. I went looking online and it true to direct me to LHE6900W0. My problem on my Whirlpool LER4634PQ0 is that when I press the start button, the dryer drum turns but when I let go of the start button it stops. Then after two more times of doing it, I smell a burning something, then it the drum stops turning. After unplugging it and resting for an hour, I tried it again and the same thing happens where it actually turns, but then smells like something is burning. Any thoughts? I have my dryer apart to change the Thermal fuse, but waiting for the store to open to buy a ohm meter.

    • @partselect
      @partselect  10 лет назад

      Hi Shelly! Thanks for getting in touch, and for the kind words. It sounds like the run winding on the drive motor is open or the start switch on the motor is defective. Normally the motor will start on the start winding and then the motor switch will shift to the run winding. If, as in your case, the run winding does not energize, holding the start switch will keep the motor running on the start winding which will cause it to overheat and emit a burning smell. An internal thermal overload will shut the motor down until it has time to reset. Classic symptom of a defective motor. Hope this helps!

    My whirlpool electric dryer has the common two wire connection like the one in video. One wire has printing on it the other is plain. I'm so blind I didn't notice the difference between the two. There's only a few combinations one can reattach the wires to the fuse prongs. I've tried every which way to place them and still no heat.
    Even tried both new thermal fuses thinking one might of been a fluke. Was really hoping.
    On to the next reason it's not heating. The upside is there was not continous readings on the tester regarding the old thermal fuse. (So I have an extra one for spare parts).
    This is not the first time working on a dryer or any other appliance for that matter. I guess my next step is to replace one or both high limit thermostats.
    Dryer runs and cycles so pray that it's not an electric board or the heating element itself.

      Take the duct cover off and verify that the blower wheel is not damaged and is securely attached to the motor shaft. The next suspect would be the cycling thermostat next to the thermal fuse on the blower housing.

      I verified the blower wheel was able to move. I will look into the thermostat. Thanks

    The motor and drum of my Amana Dryer 7929 run when the start button is pushed. However, the timer does not move and there is no heat produced to dry the clothes. May I know what the problem is and a possible solution please?

    • @partselect
      @partselect  9 лет назад

      Don Coleone This model number is incomplete which makes it difficult to narrow down the possibilities. If you are using an “Auto-Dry” cycle that may explain the timer advance issue, as heat is required to activate the thermostat controlling the timer motor. You may have a defective heating element, cycling or high limit thermostat or defective timer or motor contact that is creating the no heat issue. Have you verified that you have the proper voltage at the electrical outlet?

    Hi Steve/PartSelect:
    My dryer model number is Frigidaire FSEC446RHS0. The dryer is rotating just fine but the clothes are not drying as I inspected the exhaust air is just ambient cool and hot air!
    I doubt if the dryer thermal fuse or the heating element has gone bad but I am not sure which one exactly and how should I approach this situation in solving this issue..??
    PLEASE HELP!
    Thanks in adavance..

    My dryer knob quit advancing and no heat. Could this be a thermal fuse? Its a older whirlpool estate dryer.

    Hi Steve. My dryer won't turn on. I checked the push to start switch with a multi meter and it seems to be working. What are the odds then of it being the thermal fuse? Thanks

    • @partselect
      @partselect  10 лет назад

      Hi Rob, good on you for getting started. There are indeed other causes for a dryer not turning on and one of them is the thermal fuse, as you mentioned. Head on over to our repair page for some of the other causes, including a defective door switch, drive motor, main control board, timer, and terminal block. www.partselect.com/Repair/Dryer/Will-Not-Start/ You will also find links with instructions on how to test these elements and hopefully isolate where your problem is. Good luck and happy repairing!

    • @petersoncap
      @petersoncap 4 года назад

      Rachel H if the dryer runs but doesn’t heat, it could also be the hot plate igniter, the temperature sensor, or more rarely the gas valve. If the dryer doesn’t run at all it could be the door switch, or the motor is bad. Don’t forget to plug in a lamp and make sure the outlet has power.

    I heard an electrical pop while trying to put the safety cover over the power cord wires, now it wont start do u think this is a fuse issue???

    • @partselect
      @partselect  8 лет назад +1

      +Jameson Frogge You may have shorted the cover to a wire on the terminal block. This would cause a fuse or circuit breaker in your electrical panel to open. Unplug the dryer and check the cover for signs of an electrical arc and reposition the wire terminals if necessary. Make sure the terminal screws are tight. Replace any blown fuse or reset the breaker in the electrical panel and remember to always leave the appliance unplugged until your repairs are complete.

    Will come on but no heat and unable to remove back. Any suggestions? Thank you

    • @partselect
      @partselect  10 лет назад

      Hi crystalcherry100! Thanks for the question. You should be able to access the heater components by removing the lower access panel on the front. Use a stiff putty knife to release the spring clips then pull the top of the panel forward and lift off from the base. You can use the procedure outlined here to help: www.partselect.ca/Models/GEQ9800LW1/Parts/PS344597-Whirlpool-3387747-Heating-Element-240V-5200W.htm?SourceCode=20&SearchTerm=&fSearchTerm=BULKHEAD-PARTS&ModelID=637403&ModelNum=GEQ9800LW1&mfgModelNum=&ManufactureID=3&Selected=JRDASI67&Position=1&mfg=Whirlpool&Type=&Mark=1 Hope this helps!

    Ok - we tested it before replacing it by bypassing it and checking it for continuity using a tester. We can do this again with the new part but I wanted to know where else we should be looking as this is a repeat shut down. The heater works fine. It just stopped working again - nothing happens when you press the start switch.
