I have my old set of red box with the diagonal “Tyco” on the bottom right of the box from 1964. I converted them to Kadee in the early 90’s when my son and I built our layout. The locomotive is the GP20 Sante fe. I still love running them.
Thank you. I enjoy researching the material I use in some of the video's. Theres Fellers out there that know almost all this stuff right off the top of there head it seems
Super. Great video. I love the old stuff, and I still have ten bought new Mantua/Tyco MU-2 drive locomotives that operate, including one "Aussie" model, which is quite different, and many Mantua/Tyco freight and MOW cars in operation on my layout. However, not one single Mantua/Tyco passenger car was ever brought home, as I wanted the longer "scale" size passenger cars. Most of my railroad has been converted to Kadee knuckle couplers, with the exception of my trolley line, which still uses factory made X2-f hornhook radial couplers (Ever seen those?) to cope with the 4 3/4 inch radius street trackage trolley curves. Two converted Athearn Bluebox EMD SW-7 locomotives, a cow and a calf, will pull twenty 34 foot long stock Mantua/Tyco open top operating "sugar beet" hopper cars, or seventeen 34' long operating covered "sugar beet" hoppers, all loaded with Brown plastic oval "sugar beet" beads, around the sharp trolley track curves, while two Mantua/Tyco Plymouth CR-4 center cab switchers can manage seven loaded 34' open top hopper cars, or five loaded 34' covered hoppers around the sharp curves. Since all of the trolleys, locomotives, passenger, and MOW cars are fitted with radial X2-f hornhook couplers, the couplers will continue to be used on the trolley line, which makes it easy for me as I can buy and operate old stock 40 foot (some) and shorter (all) Mantua/Tyco cars on the sharp trolley curves without any coupler or body modifications. Hello again from the Tracy Mountain Railway in Colorado. 💙 T.E.N.
Great video! I also have a couple of FA’ and some cars that my son bought at a flea market. They’re older than my Sante Fe set. They have screws that hold the trucks to the body and the motorized truck is in the back. My Sante fe has the motorized truck in the front and the trucks attach to the body with tabs. On the old FA’s, the post for the headlight was brittle and broke off so on had to make new posts with a straw and epoxy. I got them all running again. Thanks for the video.
I first got into ho scale in 1997 when I was about six years old and I’ve been model railroading since currently working on a postwar inspired layout using a mix of old and new trains definitely want to make a few videos in the future
Hi Ron, you've definitely come along way in a short time. talking about those mu2 bogies, I've found that the old globe/ athearn plastic dummy unit wheels are a close match, (without the traction tyres) just need the centre hole drilling out a smidgeon, Onwards and upwards my friend. 👍
Thanks SF Bob. What do you mean "Put them online". They are now. these ones had the music part when the train is just running around muted because of copyright. I pulled them down about a year ago because there watch numbers were so low. There doing better now after being re-worked. This is the last video that had the music muted in it.
@ That’s exactly what I meant when I said, “why not put them online” since you took the originals down to enjoy the upgraded versions again. Text does not show the emotion or inflection in the statement. I know you already put some of the remix videos online and they are great the second time too. Your numbers should go up now with all of your new subscribers. Keep up the great, entertaining content.
Damn nice little set of trains there, I have about 5 Tyco/Mantua sets from the 70's, my Aunt worked there in Woodbury NJ/Mantua ... they still run. (Mantua = Man-chew-a) .... Cool reman video, you were very serious back then. Definitely a better look, losing the Wookie -Grizzly Adams - Mountain man look was a good move ! LOL. Always enjoy your stuff !!
Very nice remastered series you did right there! Those Rio grande f units you did look awesome. Do you still have these in your collection if you don’t mind me asking?
That is a nice set for the early 60's. Great shape and looks great. Back when Tycos' were pretty decent, all things considered. (I know, that's blasphemy in some circles, but not this one) I'll bet you miss the old beard don't you....admit so, sir. LOL :)
You got me there Matt. I have never done any research on the DRG&W so I'm at a loss about all the stuff about it. BUT......Now I know 1 more about them because of your comment here so thank you for that ;-)
A few years later the same set came with A and B units instead. The platform on the tank car was always loose.. A quieter engine could not be found. It was my intro to HO and the Rio Grande, which I still model in O gauge. (Too old for HO now).
You know it’s gonna be a great day when you start out with a Classic Model Trains video. Terrific job Ron. You certainly have come a long way.
Thanks Big W! The learning curve was a bit steep for me for the first 5 months or so
Always loved the old F units. Probably why I have so many of them. Love watching the old shows. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks John
Time passes…one of your first video that I’ve watched… I remember that I liked it very much!
:-)
I was 9 when these were on my wish list, and I got a Big Max bulldozer instead for Christmas. Great recap, Jersey Bill
I always wanted the Tonka back hoe, Never did get it
Thank You Ron! Keep them classics rollin. Miss your old layout
Thank you William
Love the covered wagons and love to see the older sets returned to service, Ron. Thanks for the show!
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the show!

Two-fold nostalgia right there!

Don’t Ever Quit Model Railroading Ron!
I hope not to
Cool. Nice to see a mid week show.

You mean the master class series!….its 1225 AM…when my I pad dinged I couldn’t wait until morning….great viewing!
Thank you Thomas
Nice that reminds of the Casey's train set that I bought just over a year ago, still in its original unopened package, still have not opened it.
Right on!

Sorry, forgot to say if you ever come across broken mu2 Tyco ones. They're a close match
Ive really have not come across a broken MU-2 yet :-)
The remix videos are fun too! Why not put them on line? All good stuff. Thank you for taking the time to post them.

🤘🏻good work
Thank you
Your welcome like the music 2000s rock music
She's a beauty, that old stuff will last many times longer than trains made today. Better materials.
I agree Mark
Great set, how ever I hate that damn headlight screw, pain in the ass to get in most times
Yes it can be for sure.
Ron I have the Pennsylvania Mantua F7 which has three motors and have been painted to Southern railway scheme
3 Motors? Ive seen 2 motored ones, where do they put the extra motor?
Very nice remastered series you did right there! Those Rio grande f units you did look awesome. Do you still have these in your collection if you don’t mind me asking?
Yes I keep all my Tyco stuff as odd as that sounds

I just wish I could grow I full thick beard, in like 3 weeks :-)
Nice job,3yrs,where did the time go,,,,lol,,,,down the tracks,,have you done a video on Cox trains, found one that was US army
I never did a vid on the Cox army F unit. Did a Cox GP-9 Big Pine lumber though
@classicmodeltrains hey, were they before tyco
@@Vexedyet no Cox started in 1971-ish with a line of HO trains. They quit around 1977
@classicmodeltrains so they copied tyco, pieces are very close in design
@classicmodeltrains I will watch it ,thanks
Question, what gauge wire is normally used inside HO scale locomotives (DC)??
22-24 ga I would guess
Ron did you know that Denver Rio Grande Westerns, was the Narrow gauge branch of the Denver Rio Grande it was same company. . the was no merger

All you need is the kadee taglo adapter very east to do
These Tyco's dont have talgo trucks. I have made a video showing how to install the tango adapters. they are pretty neat
Hi again, Nice set and im so glad Trump won also NBC is getting rid of MSNBC and all i have to say is Good Riddance!
Thanks
