Great to meet you at Telford. I tried to play it cool, but quickly started fan-boying :). Hope you enjoyed the show and the rest of your trip in the UK. Keith's decals look really nice and your paint scheme looks spot on.
Good to see you safe and sound back in your homeland, and no cold this time - must have been the medicinal rum intake! Just to say thank you for chatting to me after I said hello at Telford. It was quite amusing as you looked at Timeless Hobbies stand of Sci-Fi kits, and said "built that, made that several times, had that, and going to do this..." Phil, Wayne and your good self, could't have been more gracious when all of us 'fans of the channels' come up and say "hi" Thank you
Gotta say Lou, that is a beautiful paint job you've achieved. The aztecing is perfect, just prominent enough to be seen, but not so visible that it overpowers everything else. A pet peeve of mine with Enterprise D kits in recent years is the aztec decals they come with, which make the hull look incredibly garish and busy. I'm not sure what started that trend, but to my eyes it's ugly, which makes me sad because the D is my favourite Enterprise design (followed very closely by the TMP refit). Your paint job is how I see the Enterprise in my head. Just gorgeous work, well done.
This is really a fantastic build Lou. I'm learning so much from you and Phil ....but it's okay, I'm on strong medication 😁but seriously you guys are awesome and so knowledgeable
Hey Lou, the ship is looking beautiful. The lighting is cool, aztecing looks great, and I REALLY love how the speakers project sound. What a difference compared to a small speaker. Couple of other comments: 1. I laughed when you found the impulse housing. My friend, I think we have all been there. I once lost an engine part for a model T I was working on. I searched my bench, my garbage bin, my vacuum canister, then hands and knees with flashlight searching the floor. I could not find it, I resigned myself to I’ll have to fabricate one. Days later when I began the process to make one, I found the missing piece and you’d never guess where. I found that I had already mounted it on the engine. There had been a several week gap from when I installed it to when I began searching for it. Old eyes, life distractions, and the long gap helped lead me to totally forget I had already installed it. Ugh. 2. Not to be your Mom or anything, but if you guys are doing any major consumption of alcohol on these gatherings, alcohol is a depressant. I can say without a doubt that it does because it affects me that way. And as I get older, the problem gets worse. You probably have jetlag and the changing of seasons is a major deal too. Keep up the good work.
Whizzing right along with the final steps on this behemoth Lou, looking fantastic! Have a blessed Thanksgiving and I can't wait to see the finally. Ya know it's not just federal law but a galactic law in this instance!!
The parts that I "misplace" generally are found after about an hour of clean-up (I start each build with a clean bench, but it devolves quickly). If not, they show up a day after I've scratched a new piece and finished the build. You're right, it's the law.
The impulse engine is under the toe kick of the bar. You'll have to be on hands and knees looking for something else entirely before you find it. I know this because I lost an 24 inch vacuum hose attachment for no less than 2 full years in that exact way. Or... it went to live with the lost socks in the other dryer dimension.
You missed your calling, bud-- you should have had a career in sit-coms. Your moment of revelation that you found your missing piece was priceless. Filled with good faces and perfect timing! Come to think of it-- this Channel could be seen as a sit-com, one running for 10 Seasons. Anyway! "Glorious and Wondrous" (which might be the names of the nacelles!) falls short of the scope and scale of this one (didn't you make a 1000 scale D... ?). Even half of it lit up is a spectacle. To decal or not decal... that is the question-- well, always the question as far as timing and at what point of the build you're at. Little white edge... well... ahem-- get the loupe and an eye scalpel out. Vertical incision, Doctor and then lay the blade on its side. OR shave down a grey fine-point marker and get a straight edge in place... Or, I could channel that Sit-Com Lou and shut up. Looking good, Lou-- looking forward to the possible end. Your estimate may be thrown off by The Bird...
BEAR IN MIND THAT WHAT FOLLOWS IS ME BEING A DORK. I LOVE THIS MODEL WHOLEHEARTEDLY, ABSOLUTELY. My two nerdy 'complaints' are sound effects related. That is not the Next Gen Enterprise-D warp sound! The -D's warp is much 'boomier'. And the photon torpedo sound is (IMO) incomplete. It needs the 'streaking away from the ship' part to sound right.
The sounds are what came programmed with the board. There is also a stray tail of an audio clip ahead of the Picard intro I would cut out if I could. Blame Helios for that one.
Lou!! I'm pretty sure the "Enterprise" decal on the neck goes below the torpedo array/gray strip. Not that it really matters. just messes with my... cognitive issues
Hi Lou. I'm glad to see that you got home safely. I hope you had a good journey - remember, I TOLD you to have a good one at Telford 😀. Thanks for taking the time to chat at the show. My two takeaway points from our conversation were to ensure I have good moisture traps in my airbrush setup and to include plans for touching up and refinishing into my builds. The "D" is looking amazing - it looks like it could be used as a studio filming miniature! Be careful with the Dupont connectors you are using for the wiring - they are not very secure so you may need to use tape, epoxy or hot glue to make sure they don't come apart. I had suggested JST connectors which have locking tabs. I did laugh out loud when you revealed that you had found the missing impulse cowl! 😂 As you said, it was always going to happen. Looking forward to the next (and last?) installment of the epic 👍😁
@@aztekdummy I guessed you'd been to Portmeiron when I noticed your RUclips banner had changed to the Village. Are you going to do a travelogue video like you did last year?

Welcome back, Lou! Another amazing week on the Enterprise D! Can't wait to see it complete!
Any and All depression is important to deal with, no matter how small it is. But I know the feeling.

Very impressive and I am not jealous at all. Not one bit. Ahem...on a side note I wonder how many people got the little Cheech and Chong reference. 😉
Lou I am always losing small parts too! But lady luck is with me cause I usually find them the next day!

Can someone purchase these decals? how would I go about getting a set?

Looking great Lou! One thing though, the Enterprise decal should be under the torpedo bay, you placed it above it.
