This is a great video. My Mom & I used to take the ONR Northlander Passenger Train from Porquis Junction to Toronto almost every week when I was growing up. We travelled that way together to go to my many doctor's appointments down south. It was the best way to travel & for years, was the only way I ever travelled. I was either in my teens or 20s in age before I ever knew what it was to go from Porquis Junction to Toronto by car. While everyone knew what it was to travel by car & their stories re that; I knew all of the trains stops, times, etc... Loved the scenery & the comfort of being able to get up & walk around while still travelling to your final destination. You certainly can't get that any other way, except by train. I was unaware of the existence of that branch of the TEE in Canada. I did know about the branch itself from the SBB, but temporarily in Canada... No idea. And also, in this video the following does not appear: The original motor head of the TEE. What am I here to say? That the powerhead in the video is generally the EMD F7, rather than the Swiss powerhead. And the question here is: What did they do with the Swiss powerhead when they were already shooting the EMD F7?
I believe it's near the end where the history is explained. The Swiss head ends were used for the first 3 or 4 years, but were problematic and hard to maintain. So thus the F's were integrated. Now whether the head ends were shipped back to Denmark, or kept in storage in North Bay until all cars were to be returned - that I don't know? The poor trains sat in North Bay for a LONG time after their service, and were really eroding. But I believe all finally got shipped back to Denmark early this century.

Although I have a slight thought that there was also another train that belonged to the TEE that was also in Denmark: The 601 and 602 series. But the TEE RAm I in Denmark... Doesn't ring a bell. Yes, the 601 and 602 series of the TEE in Denmark sound more familiar to me with fewer cars and with one of the two extreme traction cars with a flatter cabin design, compared to the elongated cabin design of the other end.
@@El_Transportacoches_33 I think the moter head of these trains where all scrapped in Canada. Two cab cars and some wagons were eventually (1997 I believe) shipped back to the Europe where they moved around a lot till 2006 when they permanently went back to the Netherlands to a organisation that wanted to rebuild a cab car. Unfortunately this never happened and till 2020 it sat in a yard in Amsterdam rusting away, now a museum in Nieuw-Vennep has it, sadly they don't really have any plans for the train except a optical restoration.

It's crazy at one point there was a train traveling through northern ontario with compartment rooms and fancy fresh meals on board. Now everyone has to be jammed in a bus if you csnt afford a car. My.... has things changed. I personally dont think train service will return as everyone is pro buses and cars north of toronto. But who knows?
Is a shame that provinces, especially Ontario don't offer any decent amenities in transport or attractions anymore. Technically Ontario has become a 100km radius around Toronto, cramming commuters, sports fans, and shoppers to sightseers into a 2km radius around Union Station. Things like Ontario Place, Science Center, Metro Zoo, ROM are forgotten relics that no Ontario tax payer is making plans to visit. And as much as I'd like to escape Toronto, and see a nice remote town like North Bay - I ain't doing it by BUS now!

@@alexanderip1003 I saw the videos my friends posted of the test train. I still wonder if service will return or the test show it isn't worth the funds? I want trains to return. But I'm unsure.
It's scheduled to return in '23 or '24, they have done test runs in late 2021, and the final station and end of the service will be in Timmins (Yay!) as we do have the bigger population base!

Does anyone knows, what type of horns the northlander had? I think they were k3l's on the fp7. When they came to canada, did they put the same horn on the TEE engine waggon? (that diesel locomotive which are replaced by the FP7 after 2 years)
Good question! I know it was made to be NA specific before it was shipped over. But is the K series or Leslie et al horns mandatory? I know the rear control car horn was never converted to typical NA style. So I kinda think the lead engines may not have been modified either? Thinking back to the UA Turbo horns as well - they were almost European in a way too.
@@DungeonStudio When the train was in switzerland as TEE and rebuilt as Northlander it newer had a horn and a bell on the roof. They were fitted in Canada I think. In canada, they added a horn and a bell on the roof. You can hear the horn in this video at 19:23. The sound was recorded by a swiss girl and was original. Apparently Ontario Northland is planning to reinstate the Northlander, using Siemens Venture trains.

I always the Northlander on the Bala sub.What year was this?
The livery looks similar to that of Nederlandse Spoorwegen. If it wasn't for the F unit hauling it, you might think this was a Dutch train.
Correct. They were build by the Dutch firm Werkspoor. Then in TEE red livery of course.
One unit has been shipped back to the Netherlands and preserved !
