I have never been able to understand what goes on in someone's head who could treat other people different just because they were born the way they are. Hell, I didn't even realize that racism still existed until I was well into my teens and had moved away from my home. I had hung out with people of all different sorts, I loved em all. Then I moved out of state and met people who definitely believed differently than I and I hated it. As an adult I have learned that even today all kinds of races sell their own and different races as well, slavery most definitely still exists. Slavery is the dumbest shit in the world but you better believe it happens everywhere like sex slaves for example or child trafficking. I hate it all and anyone who dislikes another human being because of the color of their skin is an absolute uneducated horrible sorry excuse of a person. As far as I am concerned, anyone who treats another human being as a slave or is just plain racist or sexist, or anything like that.......deserves far worse than depicted in this show.
Strong remake but I felt it was rushed towards the end. Should have been longer but a very good remake. Super strong graphic scenes especially the middle passage scenes. I’m glad they displayed the true horror of what happened.
I got to say watching fiddler tend to kunta kinte at the end of part 1 choked me up real bad. He's trying to not let kunta hear him crying inside. This is one of the best acting in this movie so far. When I saw the whip and the things tied to the tip of it it made me sick. It's bad enough just a whip without pointy objects attached to it. He is strong I can imagine the women and older people who probably didn't survive that.(How about on both series they pick the ugliest dirtiest looking person in the part of the overseer. The look that would make anyone grossed out if they look at them) they picked one of the pinkest looking people there are.
I remember watching the original roots with my family when I was a teenager it had quite an impact. Now I'm watching the remake. Everybody always thinks the original is better. I got to say I feel like some things are missing especially the relationship between fiddler and kunta kinte. But I am surprised to find that I'm as interested in watching this as I was the original. The original was done so well that you couldn't help but experienced a lot of the same emotions as the characters you're watching. And I don't find that happening as much with this one. On this one they barely show fiddler and kunte having a relationship. Because I watched the original it seems like a lot of parts were skipped over. And I find it very odd in the middle of fiddler's play at Christmas we jump watching the overseer in the house listening to fidlar play. And all of a sudden for no apparent reason he goes into the barn and finds kunte is gone. There's nothing between that to make us know what prompted him at that minute to go look in the barn. It just doesn't make sense. Maybe a lot more time was spent making the original. I don't know but I do feel like parts are missing.
It really does make me sick to watch fiddler gets sold because kunta ran away. Fiddler basically had a good life compared to other slaves. Clothes, a nice cabin and able to travel to other plantations. He even told kinte I ain't ever going back to work in the fields. Now kunta kinte has ruined all that to a person who was his only friend. Like I said in the previous comment kunta did not have a plan just to run. He had no supplies he had no idea what was out there and no food. But seriously people the director having kunta stay on the main road visible to everyone was ridiculous. But please don't think I do not have the utmost sympathy and empathy for this guy who's basically still a kid. When I watch the original there were several times I felt sick at my stomach and even cried. My best friend who is black 1 year when I mention watching the show she stopped me cold. She didn't want to hear about it she didn't want to know about it. She said she don't like to think about those things. I'd like to tell her back in 1977 it was a good thing for white people to watch this show. It's not like they taught it in school! Many of us had no idea. This is just horrible I mean seriously he's basically a kid. With no comprehension of this kind of world. (However before he was captured it seems to me that a lot of Africans were capturing people from other tribes and either selling them or Ransom them for money) So he did have an idea about slaves they were enslaving their own people. Which was part of the ritual he went through to be a man to protect others and avoid being a slave.
And because a lot was skipped it almost doesn't make sense for the character to try and run. Because we've seen hardly anything even fiddler teaching kunta english. All of a sudden he's escaped took his Mistresses horse and has no idea where he might be running to. He knows for a long time he crossed an ocean and always seemed is him being told take the north road. I don't even know how he knew what the North road was so he's left without any information or food.. 1 minute he's splitting wood refusing to care for the Mistresses horse next thing we know we find fiddler seeing him try to escape and then a couple of weeks later he escapes. He knows absolutely nothing of the land how he's going to eat or anything. In the original there was some preparation an information on how he got to the point when he first ran. I know I would choose my life over another. But his lack of concern for what will happen to fidlar just feels wrong in this remake. Again we don't see fiddler and kunta Bond barely having anything to do with each other and yet all the sudden fiddler's risking his life for a kunta kinte? Kunta doesn't know where he's going or what will be there when he gets there. I mean with what he has seen of white people so far there's no reason for him to feel like things will be fine when he gets to wherever the hell it is he's going. So he gets captured and he's given an option to not be be and for the rest of the people to be able to go and enjoy Christmas he still only thought of himself by not giving his name. Don't get me wrong I understand his perception and he is a teenager. But by not saying Toby everybody else is going to suffer. Yes I realized that it isn't the other slaves at fault for this it's the overseer.
Ohhh gosh .. as much i woud love to see it i cant it will break my heart!!! And i woud never allow my kids to watch this!!! Why... 1st .. I dont want to let them believe that being dark skin is less than white skin( yes its history but up to now it only created bad mentality and devision) in ireland we watched the roots in school . And what happend? White kids called darks kids kuta .. but they never talk about white slavery!!! (No blacks, dog,Irish) Since the brown kids were tiny all what we do is trying to make sure that they remember that they are less than we are ( yes I am not black) .its absolutely discracefull!!! 2nd... I will show them the movie Black Panther!!!!! Yes its fiction but is showing them something positive about people that are from Africa, how smart they are .. .... !!!!!!! Something need to change but not by implementing self less mentality in the schools by watching slavery movies.
why did they make the slave owners muscle irish men? someone gave me the real history on this cause l doubt it was the irish, it must have been an English director who made this
THEY WANNA PLAY THIS KUNTA KENTE NONSENSE ON ME OR WHATEVER THATS CALLED AND WHATEVER THAT IS AND PERFECTION CALLED ITS CALLED AND WHATEVER THAT IS THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSSED TO BE DOING THIS ANYMORE AND THEY ALLREADY KNOW THAT THEY BETTER NOT EVER DO THAT AGAIN OR THEY WILL FACE THE MAJOR CONSEQUENCES AND GETS ALOTS OF RESTRAINING ORDERS OR WHATEVER THATS CALLED AND WHATEVER THAT IS
i wonder if they tell the truth about kunta or only do they make this serie for there own benefit...i meen do they say that he was muslim when so mutch of islamfobia in the world but a lot in USA...because he was a muslim and a great man if someonen did not know
I didn't see any Asians in this. What happened to being politically correct? Oh, that only pertains to black people, so they don't get their feelings hurt.
It is very unlikely that Asians took part in the American slave trade. In fact ,blacks arrived in the U.S about 200 yrs before the Asians, whom were shipped over to work on the railroads on the west coast. I know from history that the Portuguese were excellent slave capturers & sold slaves to European nations as well as N & S America. I am aware that a few Asians did reside in the antebellum south , but I seriously doubt that there were any plantation masters named Wong, Lee , Chung etc.. Therefore I answered your question & you're dismissed.
Correction, It is Ms.History Learner, I stand corrected , I read the link & nowhere did it mention the antebellum south. I am aware that slavery existed thousands of years in almost every country, but Roots is the saga of a black family set in that time & place. Btw, where were the blacks in The Good Earth?
wonder what BEYONCE or kanye west think of this stuff? (in their million dollar homes) hee hee :) This 2016 version looks like garbage- with heavy acting and daunting music
Joey Da Don hi joey. wishing you wonder and . thank you joey for your reply. just giving an opinion on this trailer. have a great day. Mr P Decker. London.
Out of all celebs you come up with Beyonce & Kanye? Lol funny Beyonce does a lot for people (black people in general) so what she thinks of this movie shouldn't matter. It's just that a movie and you could be sitting in your million dollar home as well if you put yourself to and not be insecure about where another person is. She's in her million dollar home and still doing stuff for blacks that she DON'T HAVE TO DO.
+Kit Mash thanks for your reply kit what exactly does Beyonce do for black folks? Beyonce looks after Herself. ..All this sister and brother hood is very sentimental. people are individuals. This roots TV show seems hammy in 2016. Best wishes
+Joey Da Don is that your only feedback and reply? can you at least put a sentence and give an EXPLANATION why this roots TV show is RELEVANT in 2016? Thank you
Wow this looks so freaking good! How did I not see this before 😨 loved the series from 1977 so I'm really excited how they did it this time

I enjoyed the original and the remake. There were issues/problems/wrongs with both. Both were made to entertain. Both succeeded.
Jim steel I grew up on 1977 version although I did see it till I was about 10 or so because in 1977 I was only a year old when it first aired .
@War Crimes Obvious racist troll.
Strong remake but I felt it was rushed towards the end. Should have been longer but a very good remake. Super strong graphic scenes especially the middle passage scenes. I’m glad they displayed the true horror of what happened.
I'm looking forward to seeing this,i bet they did a great job making this
I am here after Belal's code novel, I am having goosebumps seeing this !!
despite being very sad because this series portrays a little of what was the damn and cruel slavery this series is great ♥ ️ ♥ ️
I watched the original on TV when I was a kid... read the book too, and I'm absolutely NOT missing this!!!
Phenomenal series!
Can't wait to watch thus movie.Seems dope
More realistic and more believable on this new one but I also respect the OT original trilogy version as well both movies have successful
Finished watching the series, it's actually good. And George (Regé-Jean Page) is kinda cute. Too bad for Anna Paquin's character, though...

Why is it cropped from 16:9 to 21:9?
Does anyone know what the name of the actor who plays George is called?
Luthien Tolkien i think rege jean page. He's british (of african ancestry) and nice looking as I'm sure you've gathered lol. And a wonderful actor.
Lynda Anthony thanks!
He’s the Duke of Hastings 🤤
The new version was good but nowhere near as powerful as the original miniseries

JAY CEE Well shit, I'd like to see you do better.

People's roots as in past generations/Ancestors.
The white guilt must end.
I didn't see any Asians in this. What happened to being politically correct? Oh, that only pertains to black people, so they don't get their feelings hurt.
