- Every year, millions of people make their way up Mount Royal to take in the spectacular view of downtown Montreal and beyond from the photogenic Kondiaronk Belvedere. Named for Chief Kondiaronk who spearheaded the Great Peace of Montreal in 1701, it has become a famous spot for tourists and often leaves visitors completely awe-struck.

The epic view from Champlain Bridge, crossing towards Montreal, on the REM ( express subway ) is an another impressive view of the Montreal s skyline ( looks like Hong Kong ) . The the majestic St-Lawrence river gives another élément to the impressive skyscrapers of the City . Thanks for the video.
I'm planning to visit that place when I visit Montreal next summer. Added that place on my Montreal travel list. Thanks for sharing this video.
I suggest you get to Beaver Lake and then walk up to this view point.
I was born and brought up in Montreal, and I've been to the Lookout many times, in all seasons, day and night. Mont Royal is one of my favorite places in Montreal. I attended the Saint-Jean Baptiste celebrations on the mountain back in 1975 and 1976, and I even made love with a lady friend on the mountain! Hopefully next summer I'll return to Montreal. I'm 70 so I don't have too many years left.
I liked the clip of Matthew Perry at the end. That was a nice touch.
Unfortunately, no video (not even one from DiscoverMontreal) can really compare to how breathtaking the view is when you're actually on the belvedere ^^
So true, it must be seen in person 😍
it's not the hike that gets you, it's the steep streets BEFORE the hike ahah
Belvedere is easily the best view of the city hands down! A must!!!
If I'm ever get married, the LOML (love of my life) and I hope to visit Montréal for our honeymoon. [I hope to be married someday. 🙏🏾🙏🏻]
The mountains views on the east sside are : les Montérégiennes ( ST-Bruno, ST Hilaire, Sy Césaire , Bromont , Eastern Towships down to White Mountains.
Montérégiennes are: Mont St-Bruno, Mont St-Hilaire, Mont St-Grégoire, Mont Rougemont, Mont Yamaska and Mont Rigaud.
God danm people are not in shape in today society !!!!!! Jesus Christ, I run back and forth this like nothing, and i always finish my training with some rocky steps!!!!!!! Common people lets be in shape. That's the best feeling in life you can ever feel
Easily reachable by car and then with a short walk throughout the mountain. I am a wheelchair user and it is fully accessible. Climbing is not an obligation to reach the belvedere.
Quote from the video: That hill is bigger than you think.
Yes it is. And if you come to visit Montréal it's the best place to start because you will have an instant overview of what you'r about to discover.
As explained in the video the name of the city is an adaptation of the name given by Jacques Cartier after he discovered this magnificent site. Since his trip was financed by the king he called it Mont Royal, or Royal Mount if you prefer. So the name Montréal means literally Mont Réal, which is the way it was written in Old French, as we can see on older maps.
As for the pronunciation it goes like this: Mon-Ray-Al. In other words the "t" is silent and the last syllable is pronounced in French "al" like in alleluia (al-leluia), which is quite fitting for this sacred mountain and which might actually be the first word that will cross your mind when you reach the top.
Climbing Peel Street then the staircase to the Belvedere is challenging especially on a hot and humid day. A more pleasant way to reach the Belvedere from Downtown is to take bus 165 at the Guy Metro Station and get off at the intersection of Côte-des-neiges and the Boulevard. There is a relatively short staircase to climb. From there it is an easy and enjoyable hike to Lac aux castors (Beaver Lake) and the Belvedere.
4.5/5 - Needs moar escalator.
C'est pas une montagne ni une colline , c'est un mont !
A common misconception about Mont-Royal which is mentionned in the video is that you can see the Adirondacks from the lookout. The hills you can see in the distance are part of the Monteregian hills, not the Adirondacks. No part of the US is visible from Montreal. That aside, Mount Royal is wonderful.😍
Actually you can slightly see them to the south but it has to be really clear and you have to know where to look. If you travel along Lakeshore in the West Island, it’s much easier and you can spot the mountains in New York State, very cool.
Question to this community. Who was it that said that "They didn't trust someone that didn't like Montreal"? I can't remember if it was Leanord Cohen or Mordecai Richler? I can't remember and it's been bugging me for a while...
Leonard Cohen!
Now that I'm old, I have a good excuse for not climbing Mont Royal. 🫠🙂
