Great lesson as always. A hidden gem indeed. One that I was unaware of until now 🙏. I really appreciate your explanation and how this ties into classical music. I've recently been listening to Bach again so I love that tie in with this tune. Branford Marsalis is d'bomb...he greatly complements Sting and also did some great solo work with the Dead back in the day among many others (Not to mention his amazing catalog). 7/4 time signature, another cool aspect. Cheers!
Fantastic cover dude! Definitely a hidden gem. There used to be a behind the scenes video on RUclips for this song showing the recording being done in the studio with the backup vocalists etc. I'd wager a guess that the heavy lifting of the arranging and composing was done by Dominic Miller did the heavy lifting and Sting came in and blessed it with the shaft of light that is his lyrical storytelling. It makes a fantastic single all on its own. It's up there with fields of gold in my humble opinion.
One of my favorite songs, I already learned it but your rendition is great. I want to try singing it an octave down now, some of the high notes can be hard. Just saw Sting this month at Jones Beach. Branford came out for 4 or 5 songs, only thing that could've made it better was if he had played this song!
Great playing....any chance u can do the intro to this? ...no one ...I mean no one does it...its beautiful. And I can't play by ear to figure it out . Thnx.
