If you like this audience, it is from my country, I am Argentine, you should come because we treat all the metal bands that come here like this, we celebrate each band, everyone leaves very happy, we are very effusive. They even made a documentary that you should see about our public and music. I mean about the Argentine public and the passion for music, any recital you come from any band that comes to Argentina feels like that, even the recitals of our local bands

    G'day Beth,
Growing up in the 70s-90s down here in Australia once I heard Aussie Pub Rock I was Hooked, It was not "They are having Success with that style so we should copy" like much of todays music there were just so many AWESOME! Bands having a blast doing it their own way in local pubs.
You mentioned the song was produced by Vanda/Young, Harry Vanda & George Young were part of "The Easybeats" (60s) & wrote "Friday on My Mind" then going on to have a Writing/Recording/Producing Career, their story is amazing.
Another Awesome Aussie "Call Back" song is "Am I ever gonna see your face again" by The Angels, The Call back was not originally part of the song but started by an audience member.

Thank you for highlighting these band's. There are 3 band's that I can immediately think of where the Audience takes over the vocal. AC/DC, Iron Maiden and Night Wish. All in all some of the best music out there. The stomach issue you refer to. (Acid reflux). I was lucky enough to have an Emergency Medicine background and realized the issue with pH problems. I was on stomach med's for probably 10 year's. I started including a Vinegar based meal into my weekly cycle. (Italian dressing basically) And since have been off stomach med's for an additional 12 year's. Something to consider. May not be for everyone but can imagine it will work for some.

In case you didn't know, Geordie were playing a gig in Sydney at a pub called Chequers in the '70's, which they did a few times. Malcolm, Angus & Bon were watching them play, (Bon got to spend a small amount of time with them while his band Fraternity were touring England), & Bon was so impressed with Brian this night in Sydney. Brian was throwing himself right into it! He was rolling around on the stage floor bellowing! Bon was quoted to say "If anything happens to me, replace me with that bloke!" Little did he or anyone else know, Brian's appendix burst, & refused to stop performing. He played out the gig like this before going to the hospital for an extended stay in Sydney. One magic moment when the singer of Accadacca actually chose his successor without knowing it!

Bon Scott was an amazing singer, but I've been an AC/DC fan since the Back In Black album introduced Brian in 1980. I've only recently started listening to more of the early years of the band. Brian has said in interviews he was living in Newcastle when he received a call asking him to go to London and audition for AC/DC. He was reluctant as he was working in a shop and didn't think he had the time, but he also received a call to do some voiceover work for a project so he decided to do both things in one day. And the rest is history.

Hi Beth from Australia ❤ Love AC/DC, but on a small note, Bon Scott was actually the second lead singer of this band. The original line up included Dave Evan’s as lead singer. Bon was a great lead singer though before his passing which was due to over consumption of alcohol. He was left to sleep it off in a car overnight and chocked on his own vomit. There is a lesson here. Look after your mates when they can’t look after themselves. It was his family who wanted the band to continue, and Bon liked Brian. I am glad they continued on. We have a Statue to Bon in Fremantle, Western Australia.
RIP Bon Scott and the incredible Malcolm Young from this band 🕊🕊

This tour was the best, and also the last time with Malcolm... rest in peace Sir. ❤ But according to Brian's autobiography, the gig in Edmonton in 2015 was the gig (in pouring cold rain... it was miserable except for the band, who were troopers and were as always excellent!) was the cause of Brian's hearing issues for a few years (which was followed by Axl Rose replacing him... thankfully only temporary). I'm so glad Brian's back, I hope I can see AC/DC again very soon! ❤🤘🎶

I saw them in 76 on the 'Dirty Deeds...' tour. Outstanding and sooo loud!
The real difference between Brian and Bon singing this song, IMO, is the you believed that Bon could do this stuff. Brian, great voice notwithstanding, not so much.
Like the difference between Sean Connery and Roger Moore 😎

This is a great video. I love how you include information. I even learned some things, and I teach this stuff (This is actually one of the first songs I teach my guitar students because it has so many different open chords in it). As for Brian's vocal style, I can tell you that it's a combination of style choice and abuse. My voice has gotten more gravely with age and over-doing it, but also trying to channel people like Mojo Nixon and Noddey Holder. I know the guys in AC/DC had a soft spot for Nazareth, so that may play a part. I also smoke and have severe acid reflux and those things have scratched up my voice. Another aspect is the cause that also made people like Little Richard sound the way he did: volume. Older equipment had trouble keeping up with the volume of both the instruments and the crowd, so singers had to scream to be heard. Look at old footage of bands like Black Sabbath. Ozzy was using two mics taped together, and he still had to scream sometimes to be heard. Mostly though, I think Brian Johnson sounds like this because it's how he wants to sound. Too bad he got the earplugs memo late in life though.
Again, excellent video. AC/DC will always be what rock and roll is supposed to sound like.
Edit: Malcom and Angus Youngs' sister was the one who suggested AC/DC. She used to make Angus' stage outfits and that's why she noticed the acronym. They tried a number of different outfits before settling on the school boy one. They wanted something to suggest that he was very advanced as a musician, a whiz kid, if you will. In early videos you can see him in a Superman suit, dressed as an angel, and I think he wore a gorilla suit once.

AC/DC's iconic song Thunderstruck has been covered by a bluegrass band Steve 'n' Seagulls. You should check it out. A friend of miners first concert was AC/DC and they opened with that song. He loves hearing covers of it so I keep my ears open and that's how I found this excellent cover, with spoons, gut bucket and acordian!

Brian Johnson è fantastico, da giovane aveva una voce irraggiungibile, mentre dai 55 anni in poi ha una voce con un timbro incredibile. Ma poi vogliamo parlare dei movimenti che fa mentre canta, n 1. 🔥🔥

listen to Shake a leg from the back in black album, in that song you can tell he didnt fully get rid of his clean vocal sound in the early part of his acdc career, it was around the release of the bands album Blow up your video in 1988, it was clear that Brian was going raspy full time with his vocals, Fly on the wall, flick of the switch, and for those about to rock, those were the 3 after BIB and each have brian using his clean vocals in some way, Blow up your video was the first one that you dont hear any form of clean vocals from brian.

Ive been to a lot of concerts starting in 73 with Zeppelin, i was 13, and I've seen most of the greats. The Stones. The Who, Floyd, The Almond Brothers, Skynyrd , you get the idea. Never saw AC/DC ,but the videos I've seen, i can't think of a band with a more interactive participation with the audience. My loss... Beth makes it even more fun. 😊

Slightly tangential but as it was mentioned how influential Little Richard was there's an excellent documentary for those that might want to learn more about him. It's called Little Richard: I Am Everything. Not sure where it's streaming now but worth seeking out. Hard to think of anyone that's had more influence on modern music.

Great analysis- I love the research on BJ’s career and changes in his sound. I’ve read a while ago that Brian’s singing voice is very quiet which is why he holds the mike so close. Having said all that - I prefer Bon’s version and voice every time. He’s just more authentic.

The early AC/DC songs were the best! Personally I prefer Bon's version, but I also enjoy Brian singing it. Really glad you picked up on Phil Rudd on the drums driving it along, he has always been the beating heart of the band. How about comparing the same song with Bon's vocals? Ohh and just love the dancing!

It is amazing to me that Angus has any hearing left at all. All those Marshall cabinets that you see behind him are live, they are not props. They are powered by seven, count them, seven one hundred watt Marshall amplifiers. And he does not wear ears. The stage volume must be unreal. Alice Cooper's lead guitar player stated that Angus' guitar tech let him play an open "A:" chord on the guitar and it blew him off of the stage.

Eric Burdon is also a Gordie and their voices are very similar . Eric said it was from the stench of the polluted river and the grinding poverty of his youth. His school was between a slaughterhouse and a shipyard , misery. angst and anger in those voices. Love the way you dance ,you would have been right at home at a Status Quo concert .
