The 8-Bit Big Band "One Minute Bytes" #18 - "Budget Theme" from Sim City (SNES). Soyo Oka wrote one of the low key most beautiful OST's on the SNES port of the original Sim City. Wanted to pay my small tribute to her incredible writing and expand some of the best themes from this amazing game from my youth!
One Minute Bytes is our series of short videos dedicated to melodies and themes from within video games that deserve to be arranged even if they might not be the main theme of said game. Hope you enjoy these small, sharable, bite sized chunks of video game music!

In middle school, if I had a rough day, my mom would come pick me up early and we would go home to play Sim City and talk about our feelings. This song brings such good memories. I miss her and would give anything for one more minute with her. Thank you for this.
This made me weep...
sweet memories, be well 🌷
Well, I hope with this one minute byte, you can! 😊
Hands down one of THE most WHOLESOME comments I've ever read online. Never lose those memories.
Such a romantic theme for a crippling budget deficit.
That sounds like a romantic love cue from a 1970s sitcom. Something that Charles Fox would score to a boy’s first gaze at a girl.
I’d say it’s moreso when that same girl is like “aight bet”.
Meanwhile, it's actually a song about balancing your city's checkbook so the whole damn town doesn't go belly up.
This reminds me a lot of the 1960s type of movies you would see at a drive-in theater, especially drama/romance type of media.
I really hope this shows up on an album or gets released outside of RUclips. The whole SimCity OST is wonderful, and the fact that you gave us one of the best tracks feels like such a delightful tease.
What an arrangement. I love the combination of Gershwin-like string pads with the romantic 40s-love-film end title-esque elements meshing together. Impeccably top-notch job as always!
This is great. Sim City (SNES) deserves a full soundtrack treatment.
literally one of the most elegant osts ever absolutely
It did have two of the music pieces orchestrated, both the village and the town theme on a 1992 release in Japan called Game Music Concert 2: The Best Selection. You can find it here on RUclips.
This sounds like an old TV intro or Hotel music and it's so beautiful for it
I remarked that this sounds like an end title to a 1940s-50s adult romance film, with lush Gershwin-esque string pads, but yeah - couldn't agree more!
WOW, this is gorgeous. Soyo Oka is such an underrated composer! Glad to see you do justice to what has to be one of her best compositions! Is that a quote of "It Could Happen To You" on the saxes near the end?
Yeah I was looking for a way to resolve the melody since it just loops over in the game and that phrase jumped out at me haha
Please make an album of all the bytes for spotify please 🥺🙏
After a 1:30, the music switched to something else entirely - an uncaring entity suddenly unleashed a giant lizard upon Jazzopolis. A man with a red cap reportedly used something called an "O2 Destroyah", to end the threat, but fell into a volcano shortly after. Mayor Peach is considering whether to dedicate funds toward honoring his memory, to commission a short song from the famed "Big Band" group.
Oh my god, more classic SimCity, please!
ALL THESE NEW RELEASES!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS!!! I KNOW WHAT I'M GONNA HAVE ON REPEAT TILL THE NEXT VIDEO! ♥
Sounds like something out of a romantic comedy, no doubt. Incredible!
oh my god this is way way way way too good to be just a minute long D:
This make me feel about love, and my nostalic dreams. Thanks, you're the GOAT.
Would love a SimCity medley from you all.
I like this video! Most of my favorite simcity songs come from 3000. They sound to me like they're influenced by Jazz, Gershwin, and minimalism.
Wow, so lush!
Wow. It sounds so calming ❤❤
Try listening to this when flying over a city at night, see how fits in
You guys need to do the village theme from this game!
Also the staff roll from mario 64 haha
I was hoping for the title screen theme.
😮 if it sounded like this I probably would've paid way more attention to my budget.
Wow!
blessed with peak 🙏
Whoduvthought budget processing could be so...romantic?
This sounds like a 1940's Disney Soundtrack 🙌🏾❤️
I wish you only did One Minute Bytes! They're always amazing and, surprisingly, better than the long-form ones. And I've never even heard the original version of this one
this sound like A Child Is Born🤤😮💨
🍷🗿 welcome my friends ...
*2015, HONOLULU*
Girl: “Not so bad on the piano, never thought I meet someone who plays almost as good as me…”
Me: “If we hadn’t been caught by security, I think it would’ve continued being a lovely night…”
Girl: “Still, you were brilliant… and I couldn’t ask for a better partner for a lonely night…”
Me: “Just so ya know, I wasn’t lonely… just bored…”
Girl: “Hehe… so when will I see you again…”
Me: “I’m headed home in the morning, just a hop skip over to another island…”
Girl: “Oh… well any plans for this evening…”
Me: “I’m sorry, but I’m going somewhere else…”
(Her head goes down, I reach out a hand)
Me: *“I promise next time we’ll go somewhere again, will that do?”*
Girl: “You know that’s really corny Hahaha…”
Me: “WELL EXCUSE ME FOR BEING SENTIMENTAL!!”
(Walks back to hotel with her arm around mine)
PLEASE DO TETRIS THEME TYPE B
TIL this track is unused in the US release.
