One quick trick, with the fire spreading on, you dont need smelters. Just make a campfire and put a stack of wood near it. It'll turn to coal in seconds. 😅
You probably know this by now but if you use your pickaxe at the base of your walls they’ll become steep and keep things out even if there not super tall walls , same with motes
Hiccup you might want to try hold off on killing a troll. As you get raids so often you will unlock the troll raid because you need to kill Eikthyr and a troll :)
You mentioned using the sun to navigate, definitely true but you can also use it to tell time! A sundial has become a staple of mid-late game bases. It can be helpful for letting you know if you're in the second half of the day and should stay home and sleep 😅
Well okay, they did not climb up the wall, I stand corrected XD maybe it's more vertical than the slopes in the black forest, it does look like it so that's probably it.
make torches they are so op in the black forest because no graydwarves melee you and if it breaks just make another one they are cheap and can be made wherever
My mic may have moved a bit. I use a headset with a flexible mic and i have to resituate it every so often. I try pretty hard, and have a trick or two, for getting it back in the same(ish) spot most every time. But I'm sure it's not the exact same... But I'm glad it sounds good! I'm gonna go try then on right now and try to remember how it's situated now! Thanks for letting me know. And thanks for watching!!
I know this will sound like butt kissing. But seriously, you are by far, the best let's player of this game. I'm extremely grateful for the entertainment. Just wanted to share words of encouragement 😊 I'm committed to getting better about the like button this time around. It's the least we all should do.
Raids in normal playthrough's are easy so we forget how they work, but while the raid is active, for every enemy you kill another will spawn in it's place! So you killed the Shaman and another spawned, you then quickly killed the second Shaman and a 3rd spawned. It's only when the prompt comes up to say the raid is over that you can 'safely' kill the enemies and not have any respawns. It's a mechanic you will need to figure in and adjust to on such a harsh difficulty as you are playing. A great episode, I was worried about that troll wandering over when you started to mine the copper 😱
This is going to be so fun! The new fire mechanic is such a huge change; definitely have to be careful building. Having to worry about structure placement for the smoke control was one thing, now this...lol! Keep having fun, Hiccup!
Remember when you find the direction of a boss, get your hammer out and preset build piece to point in that direction room. Then switch h to weapon, when outside use hammer without switching orientation and build pointer to show you which direction the boss is in.
OOF, yeah, um, figuring out where the heck the Elder is ... that's going to be a trick. I see somebody commented below, but I hadn't thought of that. Or anywhere that a Vegvisir is located indoors or in an inhospitable location. Wow. NOPE. I usually end up with a few roads and pathways here and there for ease of transporting vast amounts of stuff with a cart, but I likely won't play without a map.
Fantastic! glad you survived your first 'forest is moving' event. Two thoughts for you. One thing I picked up is a bit of a cheese - might help you when you're setting up a new base and you're short of surtling cores. You can cheese getting coal by making a couple stacks of wood and then setting a fire as close as you can to it, it'll reduce to coal in no time. (might get 'fixed' soon but still.. its doable). second: you can get the cultivator at this stage - you're missing something that is actually within your reach. No spoilers other than that. :) hope it helps!
So glad this series got you some traction man, I've been wandering here for quite a while and I gotta say you make some grade A content man, good production value, your funny and quite skilled which makes watching very rewarding. Also, as a fellow musician and drummer it's very fun to see someone taking the music and ambience seriously, and especially with your credit to songs and artists (even when it's your own stuff)! It's great to see my man! Keep it up brother! 🤘
A very exciting and successful episode! You're so good at this game that you might pull the difficulty off (for now). How you're gonna find the Elder and the other bosses without map or portals is beyond me, but looking forward to you working it out! Wouldn't mind seeing some base building on camera, at least in stages, Tool- and base-progressing is half the fun for me. Civilizing the land, and all that. (Try corewood for the cultivator, might work.)
fun stuff. i feel like if you dont want to fight the raids just turn them off, then you dont have to gather all that stone for cheese walls before you even have a pickaxe. but raids are such a fun high tension aspect i love the feeling of never knowing when it’s going down. i kind of feel that way about the rest of the game tho im kind of a snob, like i dont use bows and safe spots either. spears allowed tho 😅
One tip for vegvisirs that are inside crypts: you can take out a build piece and try to line it up as close as you can to the direction you're pointing. The key is not moving the piece until you can put down a directional outside or at your base. My tip for finding Haldor is search EVERY black forest you see. I'm pretty sure that once the bag shows up on your map all the other locations disappear. Which means if you haven't done a good enough job looking for him in a black forest you may never find him. His camp is pretty easy to see. He has a giant lox (my hubby once saw it by yelling "WHAT IS A LOX DOING IN THE BLACK FOREST??" Also the camp fire shows up pretty well. And sometimes you see the bubble first. When searching for anything on no map we found that knocking down trees was a great way to see if you have been somewhere as they render in fairly fast. Player built structures also render in fast. I often just build something quickly with a date on it or some information as you can get turned around in a ship on rough seas.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how that larger base turns out. I'm so wishy washy myself when it comes to picking a place, a style - everything. Thanks for another great video 🙂
Thanks for Wandering out to the Digital Hermitage! Thanks for giving the channel a try! I hope you enjoy the earlier playthroughs! I hope to see more of you in the comments! Sorry for all the yelling. lol Always great to see new Wanderers.
One quick trick, with the fire spreading on, you dont need smelters. Just make a campfire and put a stack of wood near it. It'll turn to coal in seconds. 😅
Kilns* lol definitely still need smelters 😂
The number of mobs you're having to fight is wild! I'd vote to skip copper knife, get a boat and go for abyssal :)
Not a bad idea!
You probably know this by now but if you use your pickaxe at the base of your walls they’ll become steep and keep things out even if there not super tall walls , same with motes
You should invest in polearms, you can poke at a safer distance and a great secondary attack with Aoe against multiple mobs and against trolls.
agree!! no waiting around for mobs to attack you or see if you can parry them, just special move crit crit crit gg
Hiccup you might want to try hold off on killing a troll. As you get raids so often you will unlock the troll raid because you need to kill Eikthyr and a troll :)
Didn't that changed and now you need to kill the Elder instead of Eikthyr??
@@vnolwen_art Nah it’s Eikthyr and a troll or just the elder I googled it to make sure I wasn’t being dumb 😂😂
@@rhyswhite3942 Just did and it's indeed marked as Elder and Troll on the wiki!!
@@vnolwen_art Oh my bad sorry man
@@rhyswhite3942 No probs, I always get confused with the raids' mechanism I've taken the habit to check lol
❤
Don't use stagbreaker for skeletons, if there is a two star archer skeleton and you destroy the door, things will get interesting 😂

@26:32 I was expecting you to say "G G G G GHOST!!" like the Scooby Doo show. 😄
You need fine wood for the cultivator so the bronze axe needs to come first
You mean you need core wood and bronze for the cultivator
@@mattTheLumberjack Yes you're absolutely right, my bad
hey ! Found out the channel recently and I have to say that I love the playthrough. Always waiting for the next video, keep the good work !!!
Well okay, they did not climb up the wall, I stand corrected XD maybe it's more vertical than the slopes in the black forest, it does look like it so that's probably it.
Troll raid are after you kill the second boss, along with swamp raids, you don't need to kill a troll to trigger them I don't think
Dont forget to chop some trees in the BF😜
make torches they are so op in the black forest because no graydwarves melee you and if it breaks just make another one they are cheap and can be made wherever
Do you guys see the monster fish at 31:37 it had to have been at least a lvl 4!!!
Great vid....did you change microphones? You sound different and more organic...deeper bass and mid tones..anyways love the content!!
My mic may have moved a bit. I use a headset with a flexible mic and i have to resituate it every so often. I try pretty hard, and have a trick or two, for getting it back in the same(ish) spot most every time. But I'm sure it's not the exact same...

It's the least we all should do.
Oh thank you so much!
Bro!! Fire spreading among mobs is game changer. The fire arrow is now an early game splash damage weapon. sorta. Lol

yes me too! I think he might have been just far enough out of 'hearing' distance.
To make the cultivator you will require corewood in addition to the bronze and not finewood I confirmed this in the valheim wiki as well. Deuces.
This is going to be so fun! The new fire mechanic is such a huge change; definitely have to be careful building. Having to worry about structure placement for the smoke control was one thing, now this...lol!

At least it's turned off by default, except for the ashlands
Cultivator takes Core wood.
