One thing I find interesting about poison ivy is that she went from basically full on villain to anti hero over the years due to changing opinions on the environment
Most long-lasting Batman-Villains follow concepts to a extreme, which is often there undoing, but also makes them relatable. Confronting your fears and overcoming them, can strengthen you. But getting unwillingly exposed to your fears is wrong. There is a Comic run, in which scarecrow becomes an empty husk, basically, because nothing scares him anymore. For Ivy: Preserving wildlife and plants is important. But to outright murder people out of revenge, because they might endanger wildlife again, is wrong. Which circles back nicely, to Batmans "no kill" rule. Everyone is deserving of redemption. It's not a clean check, but it also doesn't mean, what you tried to accomplish had no 'good intentions'. Crime is understandable, not right.
"Wildlife" implies animals. Aside from occasional interpretations where she's said to be a vegetarian (as opposed to living by photosynthesis like a plant or...there may have been one time she was a cannibal), Poison Ivy isn't typically presented as caring about the animal kingdom at all. I think in this show, she's entirely taken the "side" of the plants, which are basically like family to her, so wildlife is beside the point. It's not about preserving nature, it's about protecting her kin (the metatextual point of which is about nature, but to her, literally, it's not).
Catwoman is an antihero. Poison Ivy is a villain. Ivy is a delusional psychopath who murders and enslaves people out of her selfish desire to preserve plant life to the exclusion of all else. She's petty, hateful, and selfish. She is a villain, through and through. Ra's Al Ghul wants to save all of nature, not just the plants, and he only wants to commit genocide on all of humanity to achieve his goal. Poison Ivy has far more in common with Ra's than an antihero like Catwoman.
Like most villains, Poison Ivy mirrors one of Batman's personality traits, his sense of justice. While Batman fights against injustice and stands for what is right, he is more rational and understands right from wrong when going too far. Poison Ivy, however, demonstrates a fanatical take on the very concept of justice riddled with petty and myopic partialities. Because she is a conservationist and eco-terrorist, she would believe anyone who endangers mother earth, regardless of reason, is the enemy and will harm anyone, innocent people included, for the slightest transgression. Also, despite Batman agreeing with Ivy that the environment is essential and must be preserved, he doesn't agree with her methods and views them as counterproductive, violent, and potentially harmful to civilian life.
I already had a feeling this was gonna be your favorite episode so far just because of Poison Ivy and I don't blame you. Ivy is truly phenomenal and the way they introduced her in this show is definitely one of the bests next to Mr. Freeze and Clayface. I seriously can't wait for the next one cause now you get to meet Scarecrow who is one of my personal favorites of Batman's villains
The problem whit ivy is that she priorisez plants over human lifes and hates humanity .She managed to only make a human friend. She could done something else but no matter what you can not put a carrot on the same level of a human life. Her actions are not excusable no matter what.
Well you’re wrong there. That’s your opinion. But when you see the opinion from someone else’s eyes it’s a different story. To her, that carrot never murdered anything she loved. People did.
Isley almost aligns with the simple, innocent title of plant lover. But that's never the case. It's not merely plant love....she worships them as the ONLY sort of life allowed. Oddly, I don't think she ever comments on other species, even as an aspect of Mother Nature, which she name-drops a lot. It's just the plant kingdom. In this regard, you'll never hear her talk about humans living in harmony with plants - her end goal always leans towards just her...in a plant dominant planet. I actually find this character gap in her various media interesting, because I can't recall any extensive opinion or mono/dialogue pertaining to any other aspects of nature beyond the war between humans and the plant environment, despite her mostly normal human physiology. Obviously, plants can be wiped out in a region by any number of natural checks in the ecosystem, but human destruction is the most notable because we have the intelligence to stop ourselves and think bigger than any other animal, and also we have the potential to ENCOURAGE growth and abundance. The plant world could thrive under our care, as Pamela often showcases. But this consideration is never explored, I don't think. I sympathize with her up to the point where she starts to trend toward god-complexes (sometimes literally envisioning herself as Demeter). The best villain sweet spot is when they come out of their extreme....like a haze that's temporarily lifted, and the human that thinks and realizes the other sides of life comes out. And when they get pulled back beneath the blanket of their psychosis, you weep for them. That's the joy I get from a good villain...the mourning for the human beneath.
The funny thing is, and I actually never thought about this before, is that plants CANNOT survive without animal life; they need the carbon dioxide we produce by breathing just as we need the oxygen they convert it into. (It doesn't necessarily have to be humans, but if she kills everything that isn't a plant, there's going to be issues....
yeah, I honestly like interpretations like btas for ivy, instead of just being an ecoterrorist/about preserving nature, she has this psychotic inability to differentiate plant life and human life. so she views stepping on a rose the same as killing a man.
What stood out to me upon first watching this episode, was the idea of being poisoned by an intimate kiss although the motive made even more sense as I got older.
"She just wants to save wildlife. And politicians are icky with conservation efforts." Okay, all that is true, but if Meg starts wearing green and dyeing her hair red, I'm firing up the Bat-Signal. 🦇
This villain did make it to the movies played by Uma Thurman but it wasn’t a good portrayal. I hope we get a second chance to do this villain justice. My choice to play the character is Rebecca Ferguson from the Mission Impossible movies and Dr Sleep.
Ivy wants to save plants specially, she does not care about humanity or animals. Her and catwomen for example, both fight for nature, but ivy would want a human and animal less place, while catwoman would want to turn a place into a sanctuary for animals, but that requires destroying some plants. In the current version of the comics and for the last few years, ivy has been more on the good side, still fighting for plants but willing to let some things slide, hell she's even on good terms with the justice league and batman
I heard how great this was at the time, but never watched it. Your reactions and the samples of the show convince me I need to watch this series. Thanks!!
2:34 Hey, donuts are donuts. But for me, KK has been spoiled since I had my first fresh one, hot off the line. Any other kind of donut I'm fine with. KK from a box. Ugh, puh-leeze. Is it even real if you aren't burning your fingertips? 4:45 Comic relief in the form of the guy you love to hate. My confirmation bias tells me that you don't see that very often. 7:30 DED at "Hot peter pan."
Can't wait for you to see Barbara/Oracle, another of my favorite red heads, but that's ages away though with the rate of episodes we are at. Not that I'm complaining... just do it at your own pace.
I find this episode to be very interesting since it's the first time ever that the creators make another villain poison ivy is unpredictable and has a point of well having a construction that leads to a plant extinction is bad but the way she tries to execute her way of telling batman that Harvey made the plant extinct was evil, in the end she's more of a anti hero/ villain
I’m gonnna assume Meg ain’t seen the Harley Quinn Animated Series. Take everything u like about tbas throw in some raunchy language some blood and gore and amp it up to ten. It is a hoot and s3 about to drop next month. Was my fav show til Arcane came out it’s that good!
I mean environmentalism is all well and good but she literally would have murdered multiple people. I think that kind of dilutes her position on anything.
After you finish this i would like to see you react to the rest of dcau Aka next show after this is superman the animated series But also dont miss the movies that are part of dcau
Just found your channel today, love your reactions. I would love to see your reaction to the Harley Quinn show I think you might enjoy it. I love it, especially if you like Ivy. it’s almost a parody of DC it’s so funny and has some great writing. Anyway I’m gonna continue binging these videos. You’re awesome.
I'm curious since you said you'll be reaching to the Batman movies, just for fun will that also include the first major Batman film... The often-overlooked Batman yet still great (1966) movie (which was based on the classic 60s TV series)...? If so, I'm sure you'll love it and the reaction to it would be great, even if it's quite different from the more modern films from Batman (89), onwards... :)
Nothing wrong or controversial with identifying with Poison Ivy and her desire to protect plants. The best Villains are the ones you identify with, who have a cause you can get behind, and WANT to root for but they just go that one step too far.
You totally should watch the Harley Quinn animated series! It's not related to the Batman series and is its own universe, and it's mostly comedy and dark humor. I feel like you will LOVE most of the main cast. Ivy is one of them that's why I brought it up.
I love how she watches these evil psychopaths and is like oh yeah I feel so bad for them and not the innocent people they are murderering not a slight at all just really funny loving these reactions my absolute favorite part of Batman is the complicated villains in their back stories. Batman has the best roster of villains out of any comics we have people like Mr. freeze, and then there’s joker who is Just a unrelenting self sociopath.
Ivy's gone through the same evolution at DC that Magneto did at Marvel - she didn't become a hero because she changed, she became a hero because as time's passed IRL she's been proven right
Who’s with me? Let’s peer pressure Meg into watching only the Harley Quinn and poison Ivy episodes and then she switches to the Harley Quinn show? Most of these eps are filler anyway and we know all the best eps are w them 2. I like when batgirl and supergirl fight harlivy! Very good ep. A lot of c list villains otherwise. And I don’t want to wait for her to go through all those eps just to get to ep (47)! The best episode of the whole series😍 No I’m too impatient let’s get to the good stuff 🚨ahhhhh
Yeah, I think initially Poison Ivy was a villain, but eventually some writers looked at her character and were like... she's an environmental activist? Maybe she's not a villain? So now she's more anti-hero than villain, mostly.

That's what you call an eco terrorist.

Meg: "Same."
Same?!? 🧐

Poison ivy look so beautiful ❤

I reckon Ivy and Batman could be one-off allies given the circumstances.
4:31 Sometimes Ivy's a normal human woman with a plant gimmick like here and sometimes she's half human half plant like the comics and Arkham games.
Ivy wants to save plants specially, she does not care about humanity or animals. Thanks for another great reaction.
Fun fact Paul Dini who is a writer for this animated series also worked in Arkham city.
I heard how great this was at the time, but never watched it. Your reactions and the samples of the show convince me I need to watch this series. Thanks!!
Your truly in for a treat.

For real expertise in talking to plants I would go with watching Good Omens. 😁

Oh please. That farce of a show wishes it was Batman The Animated Series.
I mean environmentalism is all well and good but she literally would have murdered multiple people. I think that kind of dilutes her position on anything.
Its funny ppl don't understand the concept of a eco terrorist 😂😂😂😂😂
After you finish this i would like to see you react to the rest of dcau

House and Garden is my favorite Poison Ivy episode.

Bullock eats so much in the show cause in the comics he's smokes and they couldn't have someone smoke in a cartoon obviously
Wouldn't plant growing faster by talking to them be because you're blowing carbon dioxide directly at them rather than because you're being nice-
According to a few studies, even speakers worked to a degree. So it's something to do with the audio vibrations more than the CO2
Mythbusters actually conducted an experiment with the effects of music on plants. The music genre that got plants to grow fastest was Heavy Metal.

The episode where Harley and Ivy mind control Bruce to take them on a shopping trip is a great lighthearted one too.
If you like this version of ivy, you should see "the batman" version of her
Did you skip Last Laugh?
You totally should watch the Harley Quinn animated series! It's not related to the Batman series and is its own universe, and it's mostly comedy and dark humor. I feel like you will LOVE most of the main cast. Ivy is one of them that's why I brought it up.

She is an Eco terrorist not an environmentalist
Future episodes featuring Poison Ivy are among the most disturbing in the entire series.
House And Garden was the wildest episode.
Hi I just want let you know I'm watching through this now also I'm happy when I watch your video
Harley’s me Ivy are the 2 most villans at Arkham to change and be successful. More so Harley than Ivy because Harvey ain’t actually crazy like Ivy.
Ivy still crazy and evil but she does want to change half of the time the other half is fighter her mentality
