Maeve actually can fly in the comics. Most of the supes can. On the show, it's only Homelander. And no he couldn't stop the plane. It's basic physics. In fact, in the comics he tried to stop 9/11 and made it much worse.

Also it's a bit down the line and I'm sure you've already been told in the comments but make sure to watch Gen V after season 3 of the boys before starting season 4. (this may be hard to grok, but the show actually tones down a lot of the book's extreme content.) in the comic, the entire seven showed up. their previous speedster "marathon" was decapitated by the plane itself. (a-train was not yet a member of the seven and was therefore absent.) the plane crashed into brooklyn and became the "9-11" event of this universe.

They have to convince them because the military does not want supes to have that much power and agency. Homelander (or any supe for that matter) does not have any power right now. He’s powerful in that he has superpowers. He has a lot of love from the public as well. But he has no true power in the context of the world because Vought controls him.
Also, Mrs October has once again shown to be very perceptive. Homelander is a lot more than just “ultimate power”. There’s definitely a lot more complexity to his character, and although you’ll likely never like him I think you’ll come to appreciate his character writing. Homelander is probably my favorite character in the show. I dont like him at all as a person but I love him as a character

I think it just didn't garner enough of an audience back in the day. It got cancelled after two seasons in 2009. Gone far too soon. Just like Pushing Daisies which aired around the same time.

Not exactly. The character in the comics was modeled off Simon but he was never approached to play Hughie in live action.
