the quality of your reviews are just so GOOD! keep it up
Full-reviews are rare on AW13. Thanks for making one!
Bro, one of the best reviews I've seen in a while, you've touched on everything I wanted to know AND more. Great job!
Dude, you deserve every like you get. This was such an in depth review and I loved it! Keep up the good work!
Just purchased this (i5 and 8gs of ram) for $1,100. Not very picky with graphics and what not just wanted something I can take with me while out on sea (im in the Navy).
+McClover do u play cod
Trollbloxia _ No
do u play battlefield
How many hours can u juice out of it
Obscure Clockwork about 4-5 depending on game and what not.
You have a blue mustache
+Grav i wish it was a more vibrant blue
***** haha
I just realized that
+Grav Daario?
Gravz wow
Really enjoyed your honest review! Keep up quality stuff :)
was waiting for this review!
Awesome review! I'm still searching for a laptop that plays league and dota with ease and performing well with out having it on high settings.
ragnarok6117 Check out some of the new MSI gaming laptops. Absolutely beast machines.
I have the same laptop here with 8GB of RAM (you don't need more for gaming unless you're running a ton of programs at the same time), gtx 960m, i7-5500u, and a 512gb ssd and it came out to $1270 after taxes. NEVER buy from Dell unless you've checked all the stackable coupon codes online and call a rep for more savings. It runs most games I throw at it maxed out at 60fps (ie. Skyrim with high res textures and a few mods) and its great for taking to school and taking notes (on power saver mode I average around 6 hours of battery).
I love your reviews Dave but my experience was a bit different than yours. Nevertheless, great vid as always!
kayodoc where did you buy yours if not from Dell?
Nice job! Thanks for the review, Dave!
I think a setup tour would be nice. Love the vids!
It's expected that the battery life would be poor. 4 hours for regular use on a gaming laptop is pretty good in my opinion, and I don't see why anyone would play games portably...
Extremely good if u asked me. Gaming laptops are designed to be used while plugged in charging.
Hi Dave! Do you think you could do a review of the new Asus ROG G501 or the Zenbook Pro UX501? Thanks!
i have to comment this video
the way you review this
so detail, sr for my bad english
1 of the best reviewer ever
keep working :D
I have one coming in the mail it was on sale today so nice of them
Is this laptop recommended for 2019 gaming? Am planning on buyung a laptop and on a budget so am planning on getting a used one and this came up.
123 45 it’s ok, but I wouldn’t recommend it since Alienwares don’t give u best bang for your buck
why is anything surprising with a dual core cpu? Running at 3ghz seems to perform like it should. Was there a time when you where disappointed with dual core performance?
Great fair sounding review!
You're the best at reviewing... Nice work.
Great Review. I purchased the same exact laptop with the touch screen and a graphics amplifier. The screen is amazing at 400nits definitely recommend the upgrade. What lets this laptop sets apart from other gaming laptops is future upgradability of graphics card on the graphics amplifier and the screen. Yes you cannot carry graphics amplifier anywhere. its pretty huge and heavy with its own power supply. Maybe dell will make a more compact docking station in future release. As stated in the video buying the laptop with 8GB and 1TB will save you some money if you upgrade it later on your own. I haven't upgrade anything yet and love the performance on this laptop. Its surprising very fast although its only dual core. For games I let the GeForce experience determine the optimal settings and I am happy. Bioshock Infinite does look amazing.
Have you test other games like AW, GTA V, MKX, BF: HARDLINE, FC4 etc.?
It's $950 lol not 2k
Eray Icoz
HOW ? 1500 can almost be 1,000 too you f**k tard ... its right in between... What are you , like 13 yrs old? @.@
That scared the crap out of me when he bent it lol
I love your videos dave great music and presentation
Awesome review bro! Best one ive ever seen. Not trying to kiss ass here but you go into alot more detail than most reviews i've watched. Thumbs up to this!
Darren Navarette Thanks!
oh my god the curse review of this laptop is almost a word for word copy
+Bennett N haha
I noticed that too.
Can you see if you can review the HP Spectre x360?
Yes please!😁
dave, great video again. my suggestion would be for you to compare this product and future products you review to their competitors, especially ones you've also already reviewed. it's insightful to know what you think are some better alternatives. for example, i'd really like to know how you'd compare the alienware to the razer blade you reviewed before, while of course keeping the price difference in mind. cheers!
Thank I really like your videos. It help me choose if I should buy the product.
Wow and here I was thinking about buying this thing... Well no more guess I'll stick with mac book pro for now and a ps4 for gaming! Thank you sir!
erickus36 Get the Dell XPS 13" or if you really want to spend more than $1k get a Razer Blade. Stop paying Over $1k on dual core macbooks.
MartGameFails I really like the Razor but man out here in Canada it's more expensive than buying a car!
erickus36 dude, get a sager np8278-s check it on xoticpc.com you will be blown away by the price:performance ratio, its amazing.
GanonSlayer Ok thank you I will take a look at that..
erickus36
there are many others GREAT deals they have. check out their gaming deals, lookout for the sagers, the msi's are shit lol :) sager is a brand they kinda build it (like building a pc) and its extremely cheaper. an alienware with the same specs will be like 2k but a sager is 1.5 :) have fun
Manufacturers should start sacrificing the "thin and slim" trend and start focusing on hardware.
asus and MSI are already doing this
Thx for the upload. Great Video
Damn! That setup looks fancy af
First of all, great, honest review. But the conclusion...
-a) dell gives you a 256GB SSD for $50, which is a lot lower than if you buy one yourself, and
-b) why the hell would you upgrade to 16GB of RAM? Unless you're hosting servers or working with 3D modeling programs or sth, there's no way you're ever gonna use that much RAM anyway
You can pretty much get the machine you were testing for $1300 from them, that sounds like a good deal to me. With the i5-5200U instead of the i7-5500U, but that's only like a 5% real performance difference anyway.
sinthorias
Very valid points:
a) wow. that SSD option dropped in price. when i did the review it was $100. Thanks for the heads up!
b) 8gigs is plenty for games but for streamers and video/photo editing 16gb is very noticeable. But more importantly I use 16g is a reference point because that is what the average gamer notebook comes with stock (in spring 2015). And I want to compare it at that price point.
The CPU, I only tested what Dell sent me but I fully agree, at the price point, I'd recommend their 5200U offering over this 5500U.
Its only 900 now. Great bang For your buck!
You'll get one for about 400 on eBay now
@@israelmakinde5546 planning to get one on ebay
Good review ! Keep it up!!
wanted this notebook several years ago
Does anyone have any good tips on a decent gaming laptop for around 1000 usd?
Is the alienware worth it? :)
ruclips.net/video/s0mXMTjZy5M/видео.html
***** Thank you very much! I did in fact come over this video of yours some hours later, and have made up my mind on which laptop I will get. Your reviews helped *a lot*, thank you so much for your wonderful and throughout reviews! :) Have a nice day.
Just to add it, I decided to go for the Lenovo Y700 15".
+FreeriderNation nice !
Jerk LP Recieved it yesterday, have gone through some testing and it works brilliantly! No regrets so far
Which one did you get man?
I don't know why you stress so much on the thickness of the notebook. If this laptop was any thinner, you wouldn't have the power of the gtx 960m because there'd be no room for a heatsink. I'm glad this machine has some thickness to it, means it won't fall apart so easily.
I feel exactly as you do. I own this laptop and its amazing. The thickness doesn't even bother me. It's the smallest, thinnest, lightest gaming notebook around and it's only a quarter inch thicker than ultrabooks. You'd have to be really nit picky to notice it in-person. I noticed it more in Dave's video than the two weeks I've owned this thing and held it in my hands!
Show us your Setup! :D and great review !
Sure can't wait to get the brand new 960.
it's not a notebook it's a fricking telephone diary
😂 😂 😂 😂 hahaha
I am getting pissed when he says this
dota2, LOL and HOTS.. i don't think people will be spending 1500 to buy this laptop for those games. You should try and see how the AAA titles perform in this
It's only 900 now
Yea it's good for me tho :)
InnerFire6213 and it can play battlefield 4 at console graphics setting at 45-60 fps
Honly
RubkY LV Honly?
Good review video,
I got the 15" 980m 4k, overall performance is good, it is quiet but quite hot.
Cons: trashy touchpad, 2 hours and 20 minutes under normal use with around 70% brightness, under 2 hours for watching a movie.
Conclusion: It is not heavy but Dell can definitely make it thinner for non 970m and 980m which is the 13", it is a marketing thing that they want a similar chasis for the whole lineup.
I got mine and I love it. It isnt 4k but it still has a nice screen. And runs modern games above 50 fps
this or dell 7559? decide for me
Don't, I learned it the hard way..this thing is not that good at all, as a gaming laptop it didnt meet my expectation at all. It even has key-ghosting which is bs for AW. AW is all brand name, there are better gaming notebook out there that is much cheaper.
I've owned alot of alienware products across the years, starting with the aura 7500 back when they were an independent company, i've owned previous generations of the m15x. and this is BY FAR the absolutely cheapest looking and worst build quality they have yet to put out... Dell has ruined the brand.
nice video i will support you bro
Dave I love your gaming notebook reviews, still looks like the Razer Blade is the hardest hitting gaming notebook.
TomJoeSHOW MSI GT80 Titan
Who cares about a trackpad on a GAMING LAPTOP YOUR GOING TO USE A MOUSE!
maybe not.
Who plays games with a trackpad?
I use a mouse
I actually use my Xbox one controller instead
You're*
NO! Don't get this laptop!!!! Get the Inspiron 7559!!!! It is cheaper, and better!!!!!
Btw this laptop sux unless you buy some kind of graphic amplifier
***** !!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!!1
***** lol
It isn't as portable (bigger and hevier), plus the build quality isn't necessarily bad, but it isn't too good either.
How did u get a review unit of this product from Dell I thought they don't give out review units cause I tried for my channel that I am starting and they said no.
Good videos keep it up!
Cores barely have anything to do with fps. Learn your shit bro.
boooot2323 maybe you should learn....Or maybe you only play web games LOL
Shengli Sui GPU does all the fucking rendering. That's what most of your fps is determined by. CPU speed only calculates non visual elements. So don't tell me this bullshit.
You failed so hard...
He's right. It's mostly all about the GPU in just about all well optimized games
Darshan Davis ok the gpu does all the rendering but cpu is still very important because in programming, the code lines and the input goes before the image, so if you have an lets say 2006 pentium cpu and a sli gtx titan x you are still going to get 10 fps or less on every game
I love your reviews. your style of reviewing and personality on camera reminds me a lot of Marques Brownlee. :)
Hey Dave. I stuck between the Alienware 13 and the 15. I have a desktop which have a GTX660 but I travel and want to game along. I like the 13 for the weight and size but it has only dual-core processor. I play CPU-intensive game like Kerbal Space Program. Is the i7-5500u enough for that?
Hello Dave, Awesome reviews by the way man. I had a quick question in regards to this laptop compared to the dell xps13 which you also reviewed. I'm in the market to purchase one of the two.
The work I will be doing with my laptop is: Microsoft word documents, excel, pdf files, multi tabs on firefox and some movies.
I play LoL (league of legends) and I listen to a lot of music when it will be docked at home.
I travel probably 4 times a year and would need something that will give me enough battery life to watch a movie on the plane.
Additionally I'm a bigger guy so I don't mind an extra pound of weight on the alienware.
I just wanted to know for my uses, which would be the better computer. I was leaning towards the alienware 13 due to it having a better graphics card, better sound card and I assume it would be able to handle load (ms word , pdf files, music and web browsing all going on at the same time.) I believe the construction and build quality of both are about equal if not the edge goes to the xps 13. However, you would be more of the expert in these answering these assumption than I would.
For my needs which you think will be better?
Thanks for the advice in advance and keep up the good work bro, I see big things ahead for you in the future.
Cores Usually help with programs such as editing programs more than games. Games usually don't take much advantage of cores (atleast with most last year and below games). So, I understand why they went with the dual core chip.
I just got a 2014 version of this with 16g of ram and 256 SSD, GTX 860M and QHD 2560x1440 Touch Screen Display for $900 shipping and all. After watching your review, I feel this was an even better deal than I thought it was to begin with. Thanks!
What site bc i want this laptop and i dont know a great place besides the dell website but its kinda expensive pls tell
just a lucky find on ebay unfortunately.
+Darkshadow715 I have the same exact model!
Omfg I'm getting this tomorrow
I really was planning on using this for gaming at home and editing videos at school but how does it run premier pro since im in highschool (it for a class even though we have mac from 2009-2013)
this looks sick
Hey Dave I've subbed and I love your videos but I really don't like the intro music (is it just me?) so could you try something different in a video just for a test?
I like its track pad, It has no texture so it is super smooth too!
hey please do a review of the lenovo y50-70(960m) and great review btw
Ok so I have a question, I'd I bought the gfx amp. For the previous version would I be able to get 70 plus frames on ultra settings for any game? Please reply.
If I bought*
Hi Dave, i know this is an old vid so you probably won't see this, but I wanna know what keyboard you're using? (0:50 top right corner)
I think I am going to get this on the Dell website but would you recommend me buying a mouse too or should I trust the track pad. (I intend to play games on this laptop). would you recommend this laptop or the Msi ge60 2pl? your opinion is valued.
Even if the touch pad was good it's critical that you buy a mouse
Nice editing. What app do you use to create your titles? The ones that track with the video or appear to.
Richard Dale After effects
only one space for a drive. you'd probably want a 256+ ssd in there
Kiddo san hes actually kinda wrong...you can have 2 M.2 SSD if you get 2 M.2 of 512 you can have 1 TB of SSD :P
Listening to the Alienware speakers on Alienware speakers.
I got this computer today for $1,000 brand new so I would say it is definitely worth the money leaves a lot of money for upgrades
Thats one nice laptop! Whats your most used laptop dave?
quick question, what is the name of the app used to determine volume level. yes i know it says sound master, but cant find it.
+fivbag Sound Meter Pro. Android App
Would you recommend the base model Alienware 13 with the 1366 x 768 display? The display looks great on your review model, however I'm worried that the display on the base model will be sub-par. Thanks!
Nice review😃
+Barrett Kay thanks for watching!
this is a great review :)
does it come with the operating systems so when we replace the hard drive we can re install it, or do we have to buy a new os?
Fox Mulder win8.1 comes with the OS built into a partition on the drive. so if you need to reinstall a fresh version, you can do it directly from the computer.
the Minecraft bit made me crease :D
Hey, Dave. You should do the new Alienware 17 r3 review.
Thanks for the review. For the GPU and HDD though (and the touchpad), $1500 seems way overpriced for this config.
I'm thinking of maxing out the new alienware 13 with a dual core i7, qhd display, gtx 960m, and a 512g ssd because the price dropped by 315 bucks! You should check out the website
i got one almost 6 years ago with an i5, 960m, 500 gig HD and 16g ram and was just over 1000 so not too bad. i got a 500gig external ssd that was cheaper and faster than upgrading to the TB HD tho cus 500gig not that much space. thing still has been chuggin along with daily use and keeping up with modern games with 50+ frames, so i think it was a pretty good choice. the trackpad and battery are definitely an issue tho like he said lol i usually just use a mouse
Wtf Bro 6 years ago and still works?
I might be getting the Alienware for my bday
TheBlazingFire Nice. Hope you do!
Any plans on reviewing the Aorus X3 Plus V5 gaming ultrabook?
if I get the alienware graphics amplifier with GE force Titan x will it be good to run better games? at ultra settings
Do you think there will be an updated version of the AW13 with Quad Core processor this year?
Hey man, you have three blue notebooks on the desk behind you, where did you get them?
Im you could say a dell user and wanted to swap from xps to alienware but i think ill stay on the new xps 13" rather than this system, thanks for the review
I was really interested in this laptop until I saw the new xps 15. it's sleek, thinner and premium build quality. same gpu but with quadcore cpu for relatively same price (even slightly cheaper. similar configuration 1080p, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd, 2gb gtx960m, 6th gen i7 dual core for alienware 13 and 6th gen i7 quad core for new xps 15 ~ around US$1400(xps), $1450 (alienware)). Thanks for the review tho, made me think twice before purchasing it. (particularly the build quality)
I've just bought this laptop from about 1 week
for 1,600$ but it is i7 and 2.50 GHz
I am using it mainly for the REVIT program; Engineering program similar to the AutoCAD but much more advanced
it is working very good
Saad Fakhoury it's 800$ now
Muhammmad Ali
In which country it is available in this price !
Which graphics card do you have 960m?
I am planning to get this + graphic amplifier :D i am not a big fan of desktops...
thanks for the review.
i just grabbed one of ebay, core i5 6200u (skylake) 960m for 600 bucks.
Is it much different than this one? And how's the battery life so far? Is it too heave? Am I asking too many questions?
do you have Minecraft? if yes can u tell me the average fps u get?
Dave Lee You
and the case is aluminium and dosent feel cheaper at ANY point
I can't believe Margaret Krohn copied you man. You're too good and she just used it. Wow. Boggles my mind. Keep up the great work man.
true, trackpad is weak and they took away LEDs on the trackpad :( best trackpad is macbooks, all alienware should have 250gb ssd its so fast and 8gb ram for gaming but love the gtx960 graphic it is awesome. touchscreen i think should be standard for windows 10 PCs makes win 10 a better experience. i recommend upgrading to SSD and Ram at amazon yourself to save hundreds of dollars because dell rips you off with add-ons.
Between the Alienware 13 and the New Razor Blade which one do you recommend, I'm little confused between which is better. if there are better options with the same size and thickness i'm open to suggestions. thanks
The problem with the Razor is the chassis. You'll get hotter temp so you will lose a lot on performances. Also what is not mentionned in that video or what the reviewer doesn't seem to understand is there is a reason why the Alienware chassis is bigger (even if its thinner than its competitor in gaming laptop for the most), it gives you room for overclocking. You can get an extra 135mhz on vcore from the stock bios and can flash a unlocked vbios to go even farther. I own the 17 r3 with a 970M and I was able to stabilize up to 1500mhz on vcore (base is 924, tubo 1038) so thats an overclock of +50% running around 69-72 C on heavy load which is really cool for a laptop. Non OC'd, temp never go higher than 59-62. Other than that, yes you will pay more, but like the reviewers said, he was surprised that the machine do more than expected so this is where that extra couple hundreds goes. Good engineering gives your hardware better performances.
Hey, does the hard drive suck for all alien ware? Also you said the hard drive was crap, why? Also, if I'm replacing it what do you recommend I replace it with?
I just picked up a used i5 model of the same laptop for $500, so glad I waited 😂
Biggie D.O.G. Is your Alienware good especially for fortnite
Review the MSI Titan please! :)
i really hate dell for removing the screw support for its component : coming from old alienware there wont be no chance of losing screws or chance of it dropping into the laptop as its screw are held on its component so everything just unplug and replace thats all but now i have to carefully align the screw back to its component sometimes dropping screw into the gap of motherboard
can you leave a link in description for the items i need to buy to updgrade like what you showed in the video
Nice review very detailed. However you kept saying it only has two cores yes this is true however you have to take in to consideration this I7 has hyper threading which mean it has a virtual core underneath each core so its actually running with 4 cores. So in some case's it actually will perform better than some quad cores that don't have hyper threading. Also the CPU can be over clocked. The 960 GPU is with 2gigs is decent for a netbook. So if you get the Alienware 13 inch that's completely maxed meaning you get the I7 5500u CPU with the Nvidia 960 2gb GPU. And also get the qhd touchscreen with the 256gig ssd its a solid gaming netbook. And the option to hook up a external GPU to get desktop like performance is great. So this alienware 13 netbook will run all games with greater than Xbox one or ps4 quality graphics if you get the setup I just detailed. Now your going to pay around 1800 dollars but you get portability and a power house that's easy to lug around.
Eray Icoz
You are obviously a noob when it comes to Netbooks and specs of any kind. May God have mercy on your soul.
That is all.
