I will admit that I'm one of the old(ish) audience member here, and much as I actually enjoyed the series, the "Little House on the Who Gives a..." crack made me laugh so unexpectedly and loudly, my dog now looks worried, like he thinks I may be having a stroke.

Man. I was 3 when Richard Thomas stopped playing John Boy. I still knew who he was, lol. Because my parents were still watching The Waltons reruns in the 80s.

I think the scariest clown, was the clown doll in Poltergeist. That thing was creepy. Oh, and, "good night, John Boy," was a thing in pop culture loong after the series, so that and reruns are how people know The Waltons. I mean, it was cable, there were tons of channels with many hours to fill, so something that was long, and family friendly, was going to be put in rotation for a while.

Sorry to be part of the Waltons pile, I didn't realize so many were vitriolic. I'm Dan's age, and didn't even see much of it as a kid, but enough of the cartoons and sitcoms references happened as a kid that "Good night John-Boy" seemed obvious to me. But I certainly get you guys point. I love all of the references you did get in there though. :)
Also, I'd never thought of it before, but now that Lon mentioned it, I want to see you do Parallax View.

It is not the fact that he played John Boy Walton.. it is just Goodnight John Boy .. is a pop culture reference. I think I may have saw the Waltons like twice.

A joke something like "Good fright John Boy." should be low hanging fruit, and would have kept Waltons fans at bay.

I think the Honest Trailers team is missing the point on John Boy. At lot of us growing up in the 70's and 80's weren't fans, yet John Boy was an iconic cultural character that EVERYONE knew. Hell, it was parodied on Carol Burnett, with her playing John Girl. There was hardly a group sleepover in which at the end of the night in the dark somebody didn't quip ''Goodnight John Boy'. I watched the 'It' miniseries when it was first broadcast and my reaction to seeing the leads was, "Hey, there's Jack (from Three's Company), Harry (from Night Court) and John Boy (also Venus from WKRP, much more culturally recognizable than Sister, Sister - but that's another beef). The guys are saying, that John Boy and the Waltons were clear back in the 70's, but that was only 15 years earlier from when 'It' first aired. There is definitely some ageism here. I enjoy Honest Trailers even though I don't necessarily get every pop culture joke that is aimed at Millennials or younger. They shouldn't be paranoid to include pop culture jokes from before the 90's. Me thinks that the Honest Trailers team needs some additional Gen X'ers working with them to whip these young'ins into line.

There should have been a reference to Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the clip where Seth Green's character Ritchie is attacked by a 'werewolf' and he played the werewolf Oz on Buffy for three seasons on Buffy (and one episode of Angel).

Richard Thomas became a household name as "John Boy" because of "The Waltons". He really didn't do a whole lot of note after that. So, those who remember him always identify with him as "John Boy". I don't think they could remember his real name.

I get the feeling you guys forgot how syndication worked in the 80s and early 90s.
Not just weekends on major network TV, but also every night on Nickelodeon, and a ton of other cable shows were filled with reruns of TV shows.
I was born in '79 and grew up with Bewitched, Jeannie, Green Acres, Mr. Ed, Star Trek, All in the Family, Brady Bunch, Partridge Family, The Monkees, Gilligan's Island, The Love Boat, Buck Rogers, The Muppet Show...
This happened with almost every show that was even a modest success that had more than 2 or 3 seasons until the Late-Aughts when people started abandoning Broadcast TV and Netflix started signing streaming deals for them all.
I'm also slightly miffed still that you snubbed a 5(?) year-old Chelann Simmons.
