This isn't the thing though, it's that no matter what once that child was born, he was a person by law and abandoning your baby in a trashcan is negligent (attempted) homicide. This is a really serious crime. Addison spoke to them sternly, but also made it clear that they had the right of consent to their physical bodies. The parents should be under suspicion of negligence cause like, who doesn't notice their 14yo is pregnant to term. That girl is tiny. Wtf. 3rd trimester shoulda been hella noticeable.

Literally. Hiding a pregnancy with whatever means necessary, giving birth in a bathroom stall without assistance, and walking away moments later still physically wounded from the process, pretending you didn’t just leave a baby to rot in a trash can. That was a more appealing option to this girl than being honest with her parents. I know it’s fiction but this happens in reality too, and in the show, I kinda hope that girl AND her baby were pulled from those parent’s custody.

You also have to actually BE a safe person to your child. The sad part about this story is the amount of levels that would prevent this, starting with "hey, there's a boy I like". A lot of parents are only interested in being top and the one and only lobster against their children, and this is the result of that.

    • @anne-vc7bg

@@adararelgnel2695 I'm gonna be honest - I understood the comment as a general "kids don't feel safe" and not as a "this tv series clip is real life". There are multiple problems pestering youths that could be avoided just by feeling and being safe to share. It's not just reproductive health, it's also dr_gs, sui_ide, self ha_m, eating disorders, bullying, keeping boundaries, reporting DV and other situations to authorities.
The general lack of safety (real and imagined) is really concerning, especially with youths, that don't have the resources (including access or knowledge to and of it). I'm old(er), I remember during the revenge p_rn 'trend' thinking "how TF someone asks for n_des and kids (late teens) just do as told?".
As we grow older we are more aware of how defenseless kids are. My comment was not meant as a 'this happens', but a 'kids need to feel safe at home, because they aren't empowered to achieve beneficial outcomes'.
This not being an everyday occurrence isn't because of personal morality, but a lack of necessity to do so. There are still baby boxes in first world countries where frightened mothers may safely leave their newborns anonymously. This (topic in video) is still an issue.

@@adararelgnel2695 there have been an awful lot of young girls who have gotten pregnant and then disposed of the infants in dangerous ways (ie the trash) in the news. a big reason for it is fear of getting in trouble. that's an obvious one. they're still kids and all they're thinking about is 'i don't want to get in trouble' as opposed to 'what am i supposed to do to help this baby?' because kids think like kids. if they don't trust their parents, they're going to make some very poor choices because they'll be making them on their own. kids don't make good adult decisions. that's not to say they don't bear responsibility for their actions -- they know the difference between right and wrong. but fear is a hell of a motivator.

My mother married at 14 to get off the farm. I was born in her 15th year. Being a farm girl, she was quite disciplined and resourceful. She went back to school, completing high school, and studied accounting in college. She stopped college two classes shy of her degree as she retired from 46 years in a city government position. We literally grew up and old together. An upside of having a young mother is having her with me into my 70s. She died several years ago. I miss her so much.

I watched a documentary about these cases when my son was a toddler. The thing most of those girls had in common was a parent or parents who said to them "don't you ever come home pregnant". Making your child afraid to come to you has consequences. I decided then what kind of parent i would be. A mom and a friend. My son has become a wonderful responsible young man and we have a great relationship. A little trust and kindness and understanding goes a long way. Especially with teenagers.

There was a case like this not too long ago. A teenage girl was in the hospital for pains in her stomach, I believe. She asked to go to the bathroom and after a couple of hours the nurses sense something odd and knocks on the door to see if she's ok. She exits as if everything is all right but later on one of the cleaning ladies went into the bathroom and discovers a baby in a plastic bad stuffed in the garbage can. When the Docs found out they went to treat the baby but unfortunately it died of suffocation from being stuffed in the trash can, the baby's body had a blueish color. When the Doctors broke the news to the young girl and her mother, who was present, the young girl showed more fear towards her mother finding out then she did any concern for the baby. The mother also showed more anger towards her daughter then she did any concern for her now dead grandbaby. I know that what the young girl did too her baby was horrific but I can't help but believe her mother played a huge part in her daughters psyche. I'm sure the father was maybe equally to blame but he was the only one who showed concern for the baby when he found out.

When it comes to their pregnancy, minors actually become _medically_ emancipated. No one can legally force her into any medical decision regarding her pregnancy- she is treated as an adult without any say from the parents. When they are forced into an abortion etc it is not because their parents have the RIGHT to make them, it is because if they are dependent on their parents they are often coerced. But no, legally all decisions regarding a pregnancy are up to the mother alone, regardless of age.

I could NEVER speak to my parents about my life problems as a teenager or as an adult, but I’ve made sure my daughters can come to me to tell/ ask me ANYTHING.
I will ALWAYS put them FIRST regardless of the consequences that may follow, I’ll deal with that later.
Loving your kids is setting them boundaries but also leaving the door open for communication without boundaries.

But that girl that was not able to talk to her parents about things did almost Bury a child it happened in front Of your eyes and you're still delusional because you have to be right for some reason. What are you trying to be right about? Children are human beings too. u might not be human. I would 100% consider that before anything else.

Same. Being raised in a judgemental, perfectionistic environment didn't teach me to be perfect. It taught me to lie and hide my mistakes. It taught me that the love i received was completely conditional and I was alone any time I needed help. And it wasn't just how I was spoken to and treated, it was how I heard my family speak about other people in tough situations. I probably got myself in far more trouble growing up than I had to, simply because I had no one to turn to for guidance. I didn't want to lose my family. If they knew I'd messed up, I'd have no one. The thought of that was terrifying.
So I'm trying a different approach with my kids. They don't get in trouble when they mess up as long as they are honest about it and do their part to make things right again. When my oldest gets in trouble at school, i usually hear about it from her before her teacher even gets a chance to tell me. We don't yell at our girls, and we don't discipline out of anger. We don't judge them, nor do we protect them from consequences. We just try to teach them. Of course, we haven't perfected our parenting style. It's definitely not sunshine and rainbows all the time. But i don't have to worry about my kids flat out lying to me about things. Although my oldest does omit details from time to time, I think that's pretty normal for her age. I'll admit, it was easier when she was younger because I convinced her I was psychic and knew everything already, so she figured there was no point in hiding anything. Thankfully, I'm a good guesser. 😅

The worst part is "theyre going to juvie" im sorry thats a kid. You know why she ended up doing that? Bc she had no support. Bc the environment she was in taught her that teenage pregnancy meant she was dirty and broken and undeserving. So in her fear and desperation, hid the evidence. It was wrong, but if her family and school wasnt so seeped in puritan bullshit, that 14 yr old likely wouldnt have had to suffer that in the first place.
(I know its a show, but growing up in that environment and watching classmates be treated like the girl from Scarlet Letter while pregnant in a christian institution...yeah, that radicalized me REAL quick.)

The amount of people in these comments acting like it’s normal to be having sex at 14 is scary. Let me rephrase this for you. It’s normal for YOU! Many MANY people aren’t even thinking of sex at that age and I’m sick and tired of people trying to act like every single kid or teen is having sex, drinking, smoking, partying, etc etc! That’s normal for YOU. The majority of these kids and teens and just living basic normal lives. You will not make them feel weird for not acting like a fool. Kudos to you out there living normal and happy lives. You don’t have to be that way and there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact you are in the right!

I don’t think you realize that when people say that it’s normal for 14 year olds to have sex they mean that it’s just not something unusual. It is within the normal age bracket. The same way that it is not unusual for them to not give a damn about it. In the context of this clip it is more about the mother being adamant that 14 year olds are never sexually active which is plain untrue. While a lot of them might not be, you can not assume that a 14 year old can not be pregnant, solely because she is 14 and you think they don’t start that early. The reason why young teens having sex is discussed more often is because them having sex without adequate education and competent guardians brings a lot more complications then being inactive and playing with dolls. There’s simply less to discuss on that front. That being said, it is just as normal to not care about the whole topic at that age or to even find it appalling. And even if it were, no shame in being different lol

I was never sexually active as a teenager, yet anytime I got sick and went to the doctor the first thing doctors and nurses wanted was for me to get a pregnancy test. I was so confused and upset that instead of helping me, seeing what was wrong with me and give me medicine, they were just trying to brush me away with "she must be pregnant".

Woah, there's a real life story of a woman throwing her newborn into the trash as well.
    Here's the story:
A teen was pregnant and didn't want her mom to find out, so when she was in the hospital, she was complaining about a stomach problem or something, but the doctors were telling her that she's pregnant but she kept denying it, a few minutes/hours later, she was ready to give birth, but didn't want anyone to know, so she locked herself up in the Women's Bathroom and gave birth there. Panicking, she threw her newborn in the trash without feeling an inch of guilt just so no one finds out. But it's pretty hard to cover up giving birth, due to all the blood on the floor (the janitor was the one who found her i think). Soon after someone found her, they contacted authorities and they charged her for murder because the newborn was found dead in the trash (also, she tried to cover the newborn in between the trash so that they don't find it... Cruel)

is that the one about the 19yo? where she went into the bathroom for about 45mins, gave birth, threw the baby at the bottom of the bag, covered it, left the blood all on the floor - without even trying to clean it, and walked out like nothing happened?

@nottycm5010 dude... Scared or not, no human being- no, no living creature should kill their own child after birth just because the mother was scared of raising a child. I don't care if us humans can be embarrassed or scared of giving birth at a young age, frightened or not, that baby is alive and capable of feeling pain, just imagine being born and then feel suffocated in trash.

When I worked at the pediatrician’s office for a time there was a mom that came in with 3 kids and a newborn. A boy 14M a girl 12F and another girl 7F. I was asking the mother about baby’s birth, weight, vaccines etc. The 12 year old kept answering, which in itself isn’t unusual, I’ve had kids answer for their mom because mom doesn’t speak English but it turns out the 12 year old was the MOM and the boy was the (unrelated) FATHER.
