After Facebook announced it's name change to "Meta", metaverse news exploded in popularity. 2021 was also a banner year for NFTs, as their popularity exploded (in certain niche circles). It's not a surprise that this strange trend would sweep the automotive space, as automakers sensed a new avenue for marketing and relevance. But what even is the metaverse, what is Web 3.0? Do automakers really think this will elevate their sales, or is something else going on?

@@AlicesMazduhs Think of it as augmented reality to the extreme. Metaverse is a radically new future concept that took time to understand fully. Kind of like how our predecessors struggled to understand the concept of The Internet.
Roblox Metaverse or Facebook Metaverse, pick one
Totally !!!
Bro, NFTs as a concept are a scam. Saying "I get that its hard to explain this without making it sound like a scam" is the funniest thing in this video, that is the sole reason for their continued existence.
literally money laundering lmao
Not gonna lie, I am actually scared of the Metaverse. I do not want this to be our new future, I would rather stay in the real world, not a virtual one. Imagine a world where everyone puts on headsets and doesn't talk IRL. Its just sad.
I don't think it's virtual reality. It is more like augmented reality to the extreme.
well just don't
Nothing will replace real human interaction.
Sounds like a movie hmmmmmm
It exists already. Imagine a world where everyone sits fondling their phones instead of talking aloud and looking at the world around them...observed any young people recently?
it's so hard to make NFT's sound like they aren't a scam because they are in fact a scam. in the art space they dont actually do anything more than allow people to steal art to sell it to suckers who will buy it for big bucks. you already own the title to your car, you can already commission artists so why do you need some worse system that gives you no extra protection?
Let's also not forget that NFT relies on cryptocurrency.
lets not call it what is really is. It is money laundering. That is all it is.
You do understand that the west is based on high quality scams right? We just need a new scam and this one is a good bet
Wait till nft collapse
NFTs in their current form are weird, but think about it realistically 5 years down the road. The real goal here is to have an instant and immutable digital title. No paper you have to sign and take to the DMV. Ideally, no DMV at all. When you buy or sell private party, just scan the other persons phone, enter details, and boom, the title is transferred. That’s the real impact here. You just have to look past all the weird nerd bullshit going on now.

Despite being a computer science undergraduate and working in IT and being enthusiastic about computer science, I despise where technology is heading towards and I'm actually scared of it. As time passes we are more and more isolated and detached from reality and less free, everything is digital, everything is smart, everything is connected, but I feel like we as people are becoming more attached to the tools that supposedly should make us connect with all the people instead of the actual people. Our emotions are all fake, everything is done to appear instead of to feel, dating, friendships, even marriages and having kids are becoming PR stunts for some people.
Buy some land, move into the woods, get some goats.

I love how instead of reducing emissions we’ve designed a whole new way to use as much energy as smaller countries do. Sick environmentalism everyone we did it!
Call me an idiot but idk how electricity does harm to the environment. Like come on now does EV charging stations just as harmful as mining Bitcoin? Idk man when I think about emissions I think about gas and diesel and smoke
No worries, Pulsechain will soon fix all of the emission issues of crypto. Literally zero emissions from its use.
@@yungboicontigo9278 bc many ways electricity is made also pollutes the environment as well
The entire global crypto ecosystem consumes less electricity than 1/10 the consumption of the U.S. manufacturing sector alone. Most of that is consumed by BTC, and BTC doesn't have smart contracts so it has nothing to do with NFTs. NFTs themselves don't consume electricity, the mining of the underlying currency does. Mining crypto also allows the ability for very cheap sustainable sources of electricity to be used when they are locked via geological features. For example: you can't generate thermal-based power from inactive volcanos in every section of the globe. But if you have very cheap power in a remote country from an inactive volcano, BTC can be mined with that power and sold to generate revenue. There isn't as efficient a way to "sell" energy otherwise in a manner that isn't further polluting like selling manufactured goods using said energy.

There should be. All this NFT/Crypto shit is nonsense. Just a digital wild wild west for scammers.
You should have the right to the NFT of your picture, just like you have copyright, or common core, maybe a common core/NFT combination would be nice.
Yeah, like that's messed up. You aren't supposed to use a picture for pretty much any reason without paying for it or getting permission from the person who created the picture.
That's if he can be individualized.
For real. I seen someone but the very first tweet or something for millions. Like who sold that in the first place?
Hyundai’s vision of the metaverse sounds like an acid trip.
I still see no problem going outside and meet real people. If anything, you can make more new friends and connections, even indirectly helping the communities.
As for the automotive industry itself, I do like BMW's application of Metaverse. That can saves loads of time for after-sales service.
BMW's implications are realistic and generate really valuable data about the production in their factories
The sad reality is people have become so engrossed with being online that it has become their identity and only social means. This is how we ended up with a lot of young angry men whose views on say women have been horribly warped because of porn, social media etc. People are starting to lack common social interaction skills and when it goes south those people get angry.

You can get into it fairly cheap( compaired to 4wheeler, side by side, or off road 4x4 truck) and it has kept us walking, sometimes for miles without realizing it, just trying to drive our little rock crawlers anywhere they can climb.

Thank you for covering the metaverse project in this video, really trying to up my knowledge regarding them. It is crucial to distinguish short and long term projects, there are hype projects which can never live for a longer period time and either damage you or build you, all in short term. However, there are insane projects with longer development plans - for example Meta Triads combines fashion, metaverses and physical world. All while providing ownership of a project to it's holders, crazy stuff must be coming in 2022 overall with the utility NFTs.
It's not too late bro.

can Jeremiah make a video about the difference between asphalt on the street compared to asphalt on race tracks and drag strips? are they the same or are they different and if they are different, what makes them different? curious
and how it affects grip
Tracks and drag strips are usually tarmac I think.
It's all the same. The difference is race tracks have lots of rubber laid down by previous racers. That's where the traction difference lies. A "green" or freshly paved track is slippery, just like the streets. Takes a few races to bed in some rubber before it has good grip. Drag strips are covered in a substance that acts like glue to promote traction. But the underlying asphalt/concrete is all the same.

I can't remember which state, I think Iowa is literally giving people free land if they build a house on it.
NFTs of random images are 100% a scam. You don't end up actually owning anything other than the exclusive right to that image on that specific platform (which is essentially meaningless). Someone else could take that exact same image and sell it on every other NFT platform (and any future ones) regardless of who "owns" it. The worst part is that the NFT isn't even for the image, it's for a URL pointing to the image. The underlying domain, server, image, etc are all totally out of your control and could be removed or changed at any time with no recourse. So someone could upload the same image to another URL and sell it there as well.
NFTs are likely to be a valuable technology in the future but, much like cryptocurrencies, virtually all current applications will become completely worthless. It seems to me that people just have a fundamental misunderstanding of how blockchain works. They get overhyped about future applications without thinking through the limits of the current implementations.
Correction: NFTs are solely LINKS to a placeholder on the web where a piece of are is purported to be stored.

7:05 this is innacurate: the blockchain can't hold that much data. What you own is a link toward a database. that database isn't on the blockchain. Only the link/adress leading to it.
