Thanks David! I'm glad the video was helpful to you! I use this technique ALL the time whenever I cook greens of any type. Yes...it DOES work! Thanks for watching and sharing such kind comments :)
Mom was right...the greens are VERY healthy for you to eat! But that doesn't mean we need to enjoy that bitterness. We have ways around it :) Thanks for watching and sharing :)
Awesome! I just finished harvesting all of mine (broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and cabbage) and added a LOT to the freezer along the way! Enjoy!! Thanks for watching and sharing :)
Hi! Thanks for watching! I'm glad the video was helpful to you!! Lettuce soup? Actually I've never used lettuce in any soup. Salads yes, but soup no. I have made soups with kale and other leafy greens, like cabbage. Here's a soup I've enjoyed many times, made with kale and other vegetables... ruclips.net/video/4FnarkOxjl4/видео.html Enjoy!
Hi Dennis! I'm sure that bacon fat took away the bitterness in the lettuce. Agreed...bolted lettuce is VERY bitter. Your dad was ingenious in finding a way to make it palatable. Thanks for watching and sharing!
About half an onion cut up, and bacon grease rendered from four strips of bacon. Add the bacon too. This will take away the bitterness from a cooked bunch of greens that are bitter. Cook low for 20 to 30 min.
Hi Amandeep! Bitterness is often removed from food with either an acid or sweetener. I have not made cooked mustard curry, but from looking at some recipes, I'm thinking some sweetener may help with this one. A little honey may blend in well, flavor wise. However, you will have to be the final judge on that one. If not honey, then any sugar or sweetener of your choice may work. Otherwise, a SMALL amount of acid, such as vinegar is often used to get bitterness out of foods. Just be sure to add a small amount of ANY additional ingredient. Stir it in, taste the food, then go from there. It's far easier to add more than to remove the flavor of too much of anything extra added. I hope this helps! Best wishes to you and yours :)
Hmmm. Guess I’m the only one who likes the bitterness. It’s lacking in collards, but I like them too. But here’s what I want to know. Is it the mustards or the turnips that are bitter? 😆
Mustard greens have a much stronger flavor than turnip greens. If you enjoy the strong flavor, you may prefer mustard greens. Thanks for watching and asking :)
Thank for a clear and easy way to cook the kale. I had no idea how to do it.
Hi Joy! I'm glad the video was helpful to you!! Enjoy those greens :) Blessings to you and yours, and happy holidays :)

There's a good reason why southerners like pepper sauce with their greens. The spicy heat of the peppers and the vinegar help.
Yes, it does! Thanks for watching and sharing, Tim :)
I used balsamic vinegar and ham.I will try the blanching 😁

My dad would cook bolted lettuce ( very bitter) in bacon fat

What makes dry lima beans bitter
Hii……. How reduce bitterness from cooked mustard curry?
