Should it be true that J.S. Bach actually composed the Goldberg Variations as a sleeping aid for Graf Keyserlingk, then Evgeni Koroliov, born 1949 in Moscow, must have succumbed to a misapprehension. The further he proceeds in the series of variations of this colossal opus, the more wide-eyed the audience turned out to be. Koroliov’s performances of Bach’s music usually arouse great excitement and his rendering of Bach’s famous Aria and 30 variations is no exception. The breathtaking intensity develops out of his natural virtuosity. Koroliov is a consummate artist and he convinces his listeners through an enormous spiritual understanding of the works he performs and in whose service he puts the wide range of his artistic and interpretative abilities. In a cooperation with the Bachfest Leipzig, EuroArts has produced a recording of an exciting recital with this extraordinary phenomenon on the international piano scene - the best way to experience a famous yet demanding and certainly immensely important work by Bach.

Thank u so much
Thanks
Thanks
Love the freedom of the ornaments. This is genuinely an "interpretation" rather than merely "playing it". A real pleasure to listen to.
,
LOVE IT, no stupid faces expressions, perfect touch, and the ornaments are on point!!! My favourite interpretation of this piece so far
Thank you forever, Mr. Koroliov! I have never forgotten the few piano lessons you gave me in Hamburg (1979).
Played with passion - beautiful!!
BRAVO,BRAVISSIMO EVGENI
DANKE, THANK YOU,
MOLTE GRAZIE,
MERCI BEAUCOUP,
MUCHAS GRACIAS...
Danke
The best! I love it. Espcially 21 and 25..so beautiful. Thank you Evgeny Koroliov!
I love his rendering of the G. Variations. Still, Gould stands tall above all other pianists.
@@camandresjl he really doesn't tbh
Keep coming back to this performance... ♥️
My favorite performer in this Bach cycle.
Excellent. Especisally number 21. Perfectly beautiful 🌹
Una gravacion Diafana👍 e IL tempo🙏
Beautiful interpretation and execution. Bravo.
Many thanks EuroArtsChannel for this remarkable rendering of the Goldberg variations by Evgeni Koroliov. He is one more of the generation of gigantic Russian pianists, staying active since the. XX century. He shares with the Russian school (Sokolov, Richter) a delicate perfection in his technique, a deep musicality, a transparent architecture, decisive digitation, His reading of the music is clear and convincing. This video from the 2008 Bachfest in Leipzig shows a mature artist in full display of his resources. Before hearing this Goldberg, I had heard him in a delicate, almost romantic version of Les Adieux, demonstrating his versatility.
Thanks for spreading and sharing this wonderful execution!
As always Bach -reliable brand in music world - no other words needed!
One of the best versions of Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg BWV 988 Variations circulating on the net. Without forgetting the historical version of Glenn Gould, of course.
Agreed, and much better than Andras Schiff's, which is too fast.
@@laurenth7187 András Schiff is way overrated

I've never liked Glenn Goulds interpretation. Is seems to sacrifice expression for speed. A bit like a machinegun on piano rather than a masterpiece. There is no accounting for taste but Bach and the barok in general to me feel a little off when they are played to quickly. The beautiful interlocking of tones seems to get lost at too much speed.
@@agneteht Agreed. Also Gould's constant vocal humming in the background interfered with almost every recording, and that spoilt it for me.
My favourite interpretation after Gould.
Did you ever listen to Angela Hewitt's performance? Sublime.
My favourite interpretation also, ahead of Gould.
@@IvanGreindl I very much agree. Her versions is so personal and evocative, she sometimes goes to the very edge of expressiveness, yet nothing is out of balance from the implicit intention of the work. Only masters can achieve that.
I love Angela Hewitt's version.
Agree
Superb !
What an articulate performance! I really enjoyed this! You really brought Bach back to life!!!
Execução da mais absoluta excelência. Verdadeiramente fantástico o andamento, a clareza, o toque e a execução dos ornamentos. BRAVÍSSIMO!!!
Beautiful!
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
This is the most beautiful thing that i’ve ever heard on my life. Thanks Maester Evgeni Koroliov, and Hannibal Lecter.
what is the most pure moment played in the rhythm of Goldberg variation is done by love for Glenn Gauld,
A GENTE ACABA CHORANDO, DIANTE DE TANTA LUZ ....!!!!
this is marvelous, as good as gould, comes down to stylistics preferences, addictive as always when played well
Thank you Bach!!
Muchas gracias euroartschanell
DIZER O QUE, DIANTE DE TANTA BELEZA ??? SOMENTE SONHAR NA TRILHA DOS ACORDES E MELODIAS... AGRADECENDO A KOROLIOV, POR TER UM CÉREBRO TÃO ILUMINADO !!!
fabulous!
Favorite interpretation yet, wonderful 💖
If an alien species were to visit earth 🌎 and wanted to know about the best human music you would tell them to listen to Mozart....telling them to listen to Bach would just be showing off. 👽
I love this reading of the Goldberg Variations BWV 988 made by Evgeni Koroliov, because Evgeni loves, and we love him, to repeat all the refrains, as for the score compiled by Johann Sebastian Bach himself.
Bravissimo!
there's grace in his bach
Great Performance ...
Masterpiece
Elle dépasse is celle de n'importe quel pianiste, y compris Gould.
¡ Soberbia interpretación !
wonderful! (the best interpretation of Bachs composition I have ever heard, also better than the versions of Gould, Lang Lang or Sokolov)
Wspaniałe !!!

I like it also very much but still prefer the version of Andras Schiff on his wonderful Bösendorfer piano.
I do not rate the various interpretations. They are all wonderful. I like very much the slower interpretation of Lang Lang.
Very good but it’s also supposed to give you goosebumps, doesn’t it?

Can't top Glen Gould interpretation.
One does not just find this pianist on the beach. (Portuguese saying, sorry for my disgustingly weak English, which I am thoroughly and deeply ashamed of).
lol
Wonderful!
