- If you want to keep multiple groups of breeding rodents, the best way to house them is with a rack. This can save both time and space and allow food and watering to be done automatically. Instead of buying the grossly overpriced commercial rodent breeding racks that are commercially available, you can do it yourself with these simple and easy to follow instructions from Cold Blood Creations.
If you would like to have us build you a rack like this let us know. You must be able to pick it up at our location.

This is hands down the best rodent rack build I have seen, and your lighthearted personality adds to it (o.d.d. was hilarious). Great work. I will be using this video to help build mine..
Wow, thank you!
Best guide I could find, thank you very much!
I appreciate how you broke this into some smaller steps with "tips and tricks" for some tasks which make this seem so much more doable for someone like me who doesn't have much experience with this type of thing. You have the specifics that could make the difference between me making a useful rack or wasting a bunch of time and materials
One additional tip for you:
Predrill the holes for the screws, and use star head screws and not phillips heads.
This is by far the best “how to” video I’ve found on building a rat rack. Thank you! I’ll be building one this week!!

Wow! Thank You so much for sharing your time and know how!!! Do I need to go through the video again to get the material list and cut sizes or did you already post that info somewhere? :)
Im Bonnie a suuscriber to your videos, I love your mouse rack, do you have a material list I could get from you?
I’m down in Ga breeding mice and your mouse rack is the best I’ve seen
Thanks
Thank you for your time.
My pleasure!
Get video!! Do you have a cut list?
Do you have a cut list?
Nice guidance. Thanks a lot brother
No problem! Thanks for watching. :)
Great video I wonder if I can buy one already made
Great how to guide
Thank you!
Did you ever do a video on the watering and food system? I did not see it in your video list
Thanks for sharing. Really a big help
When will you be making the video on watering system for rat racks?
Excellent, simple way to save $$$
Yes it is. Thank you...
Curious as to what you use to keep the mice warm during the cold nights or months
EXCELLENT video! Thank you. How can I find the tubs you are using?
Home Depot. We sell the automatic watering on our site:
www.coldbloodcreations.online
I'm just here for the good-looking man! :)
You have no issues with the mice pulling the food down into the cage?? After 3 days my mice had that whole feed tray empty and all over the bedding...
Do you have measurements of everything listed anywhere? I want to build something like this for breeding mice. I have a rat rack that I built. Also do you use the same water valve for mice as you do for rats?
Can you give me a detailed list for everything needed for a 3 tier rat rack please 😫 specifically the wood part… I don’t know how many 2x3x96 I need or how they need to be cut….. I feel so dumb lol-
I would like to see the watering system. Please?
So for a rat rack I can use the 1/2 in mesh on the entire tub cover right ??.🤔
I'd like to see your insect set ups.
We just posted a new video on meal worm care! I'll link it for you here: ruclips.net/video/CpYXiHIoCUM/видео.html&lc=UgwLeo83Cxct8UEzMjh4AaABAg
We plan to do more videos featuring our other insects in the future. :)
What was the estimate price u spent on material?
I do have a question about which screws did you use, I’m having an issue finding the right screws to make it easier than I’m having.
2 1/2" deck screws for frame and 1 5/8 drywall screws for runners.
I started building one of these for mice today, then tonight I saw another video of yours (Nov 9, 2018) saying that this design doesn't work so well for mice. That video was posted before this one. Which is it?
So far, I have assembled the shelves and stapled the screen in place, but have not cut anything for the rails or legs/frame. Would you recommend that I return the 9 gallon mixing tubs and scrap the rest in favor of a different design?
This will work for mice, but you have to use 2 seperate size screen mesh. Mice will require the 1/4 inch mesh so that they will not escape. In this version we used 1/2 inch screen. Hopper mice can squeeze through that. You can use this exact rack for mice, but the screen size will have to be adjusted.
That said, the automatic water nipples requires 1/2 inch screen. So how we get around that is to use 1/4 wire for all except where the food and water valve go. There we use 1/2 inch. To keep mice from escaping there simply keep it full of food at all times.
@@ColdBloodCreations Thanks for the quick reply. I am using 2 sizes of screen, as your video recommended. I just came across the video on Small Scale Mouse Breeding, and a comment in their made me second guess the design. What was the reason you said they were not working very well for you in that video? Or did you mean the bigger tubs that you use for rats?
I was going to make it exactly the same as in this video, except enclosing the entire thing in 1/4 inch wire with a door on the front. It will be set up outdoors on a covered deck.
What keeps the babies from escaping through the feeder holes?
I was waiting for that part aswell
@@alanharper2882 either it isn't an issue because there is always food blocking the holes... or maybe a cover of wood 1/4" over the food area?
Size of spacer for tub
How do young rats not escape from the 1/2 in feeding side?
By the time their eyes are open and they're old enough to run and climb, they're too large to fit through the wire
Can you use 1 1/2”x3 1/2” boards for all of it?
Would the furring strips work for sliders?
Maybe. Might have to double them
Do you get any chew outs of those tubs?
Mice will sometimes, but never with rats.
Anyone know what size the spacer boards are?
What size concrete tubs are those ? Is it the 20.9 gal tubs ??
Home Depot call them Mediums...
What size pans did you use for the rack
It’s in the video
What size screw are u using for the sliding crossbars ?
1 5/8"
My tubs hit the water nipel all the time how do I fix that
Unclip them when removing the tubs.
@@ColdBloodCreations Dont know why i didnt think about that to begin with. is 1/4 to small for mice to get food or is it okay
What’s the dimensions of the roll wire mesh?
It comes in 24 and 36" It is up to you how much you need left over. We get the 24"
