  • If you want to keep multiple groups of breeding rodents, the best way to house them is with a rack. This can save both time and space and allow food and watering to be done automatically. Instead of buying the grossly overpriced commercial rodent breeding racks that are commercially available, you can do it yourself with these simple and easy to follow instructions from Cold Blood Creations.
    If you would like to have us build you a rack like this let us know. You must be able to pick it up at our location.

    I appreciate how you broke this into some smaller steps with "tips and tricks" for some tasks which make this seem so much more doable for someone like me who doesn't have much experience with this type of thing. You have the specifics that could make the difference between me making a useful rack or wasting a bunch of time and materials

      One additional tip for you:
      Predrill the holes for the screws, and use star head screws and not phillips heads.

    I started building one of these for mice today, then tonight I saw another video of yours (Nov 9, 2018) saying that this design doesn't work so well for mice. That video was posted before this one. Which is it?
    So far, I have assembled the shelves and stapled the screen in place, but have not cut anything for the rails or legs/frame. Would you recommend that I return the 9 gallon mixing tubs and scrap the rest in favor of a different design?

    • @ColdBloodCreations
      @ColdBloodCreations  3 года назад +1

      This will work for mice, but you have to use 2 seperate size screen mesh. Mice will require the 1/4 inch mesh so that they will not escape. In this version we used 1/2 inch screen. Hopper mice can squeeze through that. You can use this exact rack for mice, but the screen size will have to be adjusted.
      That said, the automatic water nipples requires 1/2 inch screen. So how we get around that is to use 1/4 wire for all except where the food and water valve go. There we use 1/2 inch. To keep mice from escaping there simply keep it full of food at all times.

    • @Robert-ng5zp
      @Robert-ng5zp 3 года назад

      @@ColdBloodCreations Thanks for the quick reply. I am using 2 sizes of screen, as your video recommended. I just came across the video on Small Scale Mouse Breeding, and a comment in their made me second guess the design. What was the reason you said they were not working very well for you in that video? Or did you mean the bigger tubs that you use for rats?
      I was going to make it exactly the same as in this video, except enclosing the entire thing in 1/4 inch wire with a door on the front. It will be set up outdoors on a covered deck.
