      so i ordered rotors through discount auto parts. i received them couple of days ago. last night i decided to put em on. I thought i could get away without MR. persuasion but i had to get one eventually. So i changed the passenger side going through ur video, no problem there. then the driver side, i had to beat the crap out of the rotor to make it come out n then tried to put the one i ordered in only to find out it won't fit. they sent a wrong size. I am stuck, i didn't know what else to do as it was little after 10 at nite, so put the beatup rotor and pads back and put the tire and left the car parked on the drive way. Can i go to autozone and get a second one and install or should i call autoparts and get it from them? Is it ok to use a different brand on the other side? Thanks for your help.

    • @DIYDanCars
      @DIYDanCars  6 лет назад +1

      Do you have a AWD or RWD GS350? If they sent you RWD front rotors for your AWD Lexus then they will bind on the hub assembly and the tire will not rotate.
      I have no idea what their store policy is on returns. I would assume if they sent you the wrong rotors they would at least exchange them?

    • @STILLPHENOM
      @STILLPHENOM 6 лет назад

      its AWD. They definitely sent me a wrong one. Now I'm gonna have to use a autozone brand on one side I guess. would using two different brands not a wise thing to do?

    Nice job. I like that you used a solid rotor and the painted calipers look great. Doing brakes on a Lexus is very easy compared to most other vehicles. The only suggestions I would make are: 1. Always wear thin rubber gloves so you can change them out when your hands get greasy- this helps keep the pads and rotor clean. 2. Don't use anti-seize or other non- standard lubricants near the brakes. Over time they can wash off and get onto the pad surface and degrade braking performance. If you do use anti-seize, less is more. That pin will come out just fine without lube. I always use a generous amount of brake cleaner even on new rotors and pads as indicated. Where I do use a small amount of silicone lubricant is on the slide pins after I clean them. Using too much can attract dirt. 3. By far more important- torque the caliper bolts and lug nuts to the proper spec. and using the correct tightening pattern. This also helps keep the caliper from warping- make sure the rotor sits flush by cleaning the hub well with a wire brush. Some people will install new lug nuts, or replace the same lug nuts on the same lug locations. If you line them up when you remove them, it's easy to keep track of the order e.g., start at 12 noon and set them down left to right. 4. If you have ABS, you typically don't want to force fluid backwards passed seals and through the system- this can cause many issues. Most professionals will instead briefly clamp the hose near the caliper and simply open the bleeder valve on the caliper. Make sure the hose is not lined as you don't want to crimp it. When doing this, using some clear tubing held in a vertical orientation can help to avoid drawing air back into the caliper. Changing the fluid occasionally is also a great idea to ensure maximum braking performance.

    The brake fluid reservoir should be open to prevent damaging the brake cylinder ( when the calliper pistons are pushed back) GREAT VIDEO.

    • @DIYDanCars
      @DIYDanCars  Год назад +1

      Removing the fluid reservoir cap is optional. With the cap remove it does help resetting the caliper pistons (pushing them back) a bit easier. No damage will occur by leaving the cap installed! If this were true, then the brake master cylinder would be failing every day because under normal braking the calipers reset themselves after every time you let off the brake pedal. 🙂

      You have a third generation GS350 and my video is for a fourth generation GS350. For the fourth generation cars, the base RWD vs the base AWD use different front rotors. If you put a RWD front rotor on an AWD car, the rotor will lock against the hub causing the wheel not to move. Ask me how I know. I was sent the wrong rotors on the first go around by accident.

      @@taters9273 Yeah, that doesn't make much sense why the rotors would be different between countries. Are you sure that's accurate? A call to the dealer and comparing part numbers should get you an answer. Find a VIN from a Canadian car and compare it to one from America and Japan. The dealer can you tell you real quick by the VIN if each of those cars require a different front rotor. I doubt they do as long as the drivetrain is the same -- meaning compare only AWD to AWD or RWD to RWD.
