Stanley Cup champion Paul Maurice says he hopes for “the Winnipeg Jets to win the next Stanley Cup”

- The Florida Panthers won their first ever Stanley Cup championship this evening as they defeated the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in game 7. While the game itself was a good one, the focus after the contest was on comments made by former Jets head coach Paul Maurice towards his old team.
He was asked about his time in Winnipeg and then he said this:
“If I could have one thing more it would be for the Winnipeg Jets to win the next Stanley Cup.”
In addition to Paul Maurice, former associate coach Jamie Kompon picked up his second Cup while former Jets Dmitry Kulikov and Kevin Stenlund also won.
Pure fucking class. You are a legend Paul. What a wonderful and incredibly kind comment when you've just accomplished the thing you've wanted most in your life. Incredible.

Respect. He just won the biggest trophy in the world, that took him 30 years to do, and he's selfless enough to be wishing this for he old team. From a jets fan that really wanted the cup brought home to canada, but I'm happy for him and his success 🤍

He Wants the JETS to win the next Cup. Not the PANTHERS. Does that mean he plans to RETIRE from coaching ???
In just means, in that moment, all he wanted was for others that he knows have been grinding to share in feeling what he was currently feeling, after so long
I believe he'll retire, he's a very tenured coach and has what he's been looking for.
It was just a beautiful selfless comment caught in the moment!
