i cant find the info iam looking for, im wondering about outlets, typically outlets are done to be flush with 1/2 drywall, but if i add sonopan and dry wall then the outlet will be 1/2" in.do i bring the outlets out to the sonopan layer? or leave them as is?
box extensions can be purchased from any electrial supplier or at most home improvement retailers, this would be the best way to bring out the outlet to be flush with the extended wall.
Any video examples or pictures on how you would finish around door frame, light switches and electrical boxes with the extra 5/8 the sonopan add?
Door frames do need to be extended which isn't the easiest or best looking. Electrical boxes and switches you can buy box extensions that screw on to existing ones or mount them further out if there is no drywall in your way.

Is this the same as homosote?
Can you use Green Glue behind them? I have a A/C Closet that i want to add this to- It would over existing drywall. No additional drywall over top of it though. (Closed off room) Thanks
It feels too soft for green glue to absorb much more sound.
Green glue is not compatible with SONOpan, it must be used between two hard surfaces like drywall.
I'd love to see an STC breakdown for ceilings and walls with and without sonopan
You can have a look at it visiting sonopan.com/stc-rated-assemblies-2/
This guide makes it look like when installed over existing drywall it is just sandwiched between and no screws are applied to the sonopan?
You actually need to secure the drywall on your existing drywall with drywall screws. For more info, visit the retrofit section of the installation guide page of our website: sonopan.com/installation-guide/
Do you supply to any distributors in Australia?
Unfortunately, we do not.
can we order this online in the US? not seeing it sold anywhere in my state

If it's in a crawlspace will it help reduce noise transmission and does it need to have drywall or can it be left unfinished
Without gypsum, it will dampen voices and airborne noise but also collect dust. The weight of the gypsum would dampen impact noise. 5/8 gypsum is preferred. The heavier the better.
@@Duaner244 thank you
We always recommend covering SONOpan as it is made from 100% recycled wood, natural binders, and there may be a minimal shed of wood fibre. You can cover SONOpan with any wall covering like wood paneling or felt, but drywall is the best option for soundproofing.
Hi I didn’t see that you install resilient channel. Does it recommended? Thank you
It is an extra measure. The sonopan alone is pretty effective
@@CraigularjJoeWoodworks l am so gald to know that. Thank you for your time to response.
Resilient channels, isolation clips, or a gap between walls helps in certain situations. We generally don't see many single-family homes that opt for resilient channels, however, it is recommended for party walls and ceilings where bass frequencies or impact sounds are likely present.
Does Sonopan by itself have good sound absorption properties like Rockwool 80? I realized Sonopan is easier to work with compared to irritating fiberglass, and would like to know if it can work inside acoustic panels and bass traps (not soundproofing)
I can only imagine since its not as thick it cant be as good as a rockwool safe and sound.
@@TheTCOLL it's important to not the decoupling properties from the wall, stops the studs from transmitting the vibrations
No, I can still hear my tenant on his phone, although it is quieter. I did half my basement with sonopan over drywall, resilient and a layer of acoustic drywall (at $106 a sheet mind you)... it was NOT as good at the other half where it was tear off the old drywall, use safe and sound, add resilient and double layer of 5/8 drywall. Second method was cheaper, and better results.
SONOpan panels have an STC rating of 27 alone. Yes, it works inside acoustic panels. Have a look at this IG post from our IG profile to get an idea of how you can build one with SONOpan: instagram.com/p/Cs7GqHBJbz8/

What most people don't know is that sound travels through vents, electrical plugs, under doorways, and most importantly low frequency vibration through the actual framing. Soundproof means only one thing. It either is, or it isn't.
how do you soundproof the vents?
@@wiiiz3 I don't know. I guess the only way would be to heat and cool the room independently with a different source from the rest of the home. Like an electric baseboard heater and a window A/C. Are you soundproofing a room?
@@marcinligeza7501 no, im trying to soundproof a basement living room with vents in the ceiling joist.
@@wiiiz3 how high is the existing ceiling?
@@marcinligeza7501 7 ft 3 inches
