when i watched this show i was like 12 and in middle school and i thought ezra and aria were so cute.
now that it makes me uncomfortable because he’s literally a teacher.
He’s a teacher, but she didn’t know that beforehand and she was the one in a bar (at the time it came out, most places- at least where I live, require you to be at least 18 to even enter the bar unless you’re in some middle of nowhere population 100 town or something like that; which they were in a college town, soooo)... I mean I realize later in the series it’s revealed he knew who she was, so yeah, a bit weird, but just going off of they met in a bar and hooked up, then she turned out to be his student.... nah (esp bc he’s younger).... try one of the lifetime movies where the psycho Hs student pretends to be older, seduces the teacher ... and then the teacher finds out they’re a student (and I don’t think those movies are far off from reality- I mean how many Hs students have fake IDs or go out and meet some random guy? Esp now with makeup tricks- I mean is she 12 or is she 25? lol... I had a teacher that flirted with me and gave me special treatment and had I thought he was as dreamy as most of the girls at my school , would’ve loved the attention- but it was a bit creepy- I mean did I use that infatuation to my advantage (like having him cut open a worm, grasshopper, crawfish, etc when my lab partner didn’t show up bc it was so gross- and really I don’t think should be done in bio- but he definitely refused to do so for anyone else)? Yes. ... and he was in his 40s.. and I was 15)... also outside the US - like some countries in Europe teachers openly date students (typically profs at unis... and typically OLD AF men dating their young female students)

I don't blame him for kissing Alison, because she lied about her age. With Aria tho, it was different because he, for sure, knew her age and, on top of that, he knew who she was and pretended that he didn't. Don't even get me started on him dating Aria when she was his student. Their relationship was so disturbing on so many levels.

I kinda like Pretty Little Liars actually but my problem with it is the girls are quite dim. For example, Emily had evidence they could use against A, instead of making a copy like a smart human (especially when there is someone who had it out for them) she left her laptop wide open and was shocked that it was all erased. Yeah like that kind of dim and this continued on and on. and it would take too long. Still like the Noir feel of it, just exhausting sometimes.

ikr! it drove me crazy when they did that! but there were times where they tried to bring it to the police and A hacked them and I think deleted everything, so at times they can't prove it. And there is just so many plot holes.
Ish also running in the forest in heels and that the town is feeler with useless cops apparently that can't catch a stalker "A"
reminds me of the x files. the plot armor makes it that they can never prove anything so they can draw it out for those extra seasons
Slenderfoxx37 the useless cops were actually the only part that made sense. It's a small town, the adults who become cops are the kids from that town that didn't leave and liked having power over other people. They wouldn't know what to do with a disappeared girl when all the obvious leads dried up and she didn't really have a clear motive for leaving in the first place. Source: I live in a small town with useless cops.

Because Marlene King- the showrunner- wanted to make that whole teacher/student relationship interesting and added that whole "writing a book" thing later on. Ezra originally knew nothing about Aria and his reaction was actually genuine until that came in and pretty much retconned everything about their relationship. Pretty garbage if you ask me.

Honestly PLL sure was annoying sometimes especially due to the character's dumb mistakes and how they never talked to anyone. It has a lack of logic and of common sense. But it was still entertaining to watch, I truly got attached to some characters (Hanna/Caleb/Toby/Mona).
Yeeeeeeah the books are so much better, the girls are still kind dumb tho

I was pretty obsessed with PLL from ages 11-12 (it probably lead to my first 5 celebrity crushes) and it was pretty exciting and glamorous, but even the biggest fans could see it was going down the drain by seasons 6-7 (where it got so drawn out they did a flash forward 5 years) and in hindsight it was obviously stupid in storyline, and the characters were extremely unrealistic (not exactly surprising for a teen mystery drama)

The first four seasons were amazing and I would happily rewatch them, but it all went downhill from there. By the time season 7 had finished I was literally falling through the plot holes.

The first 4 seasons were amazing. Each season get better than the previous but after that it just kept getting worse. I enjoyed some season 5 & 7 episodes but other than that...
The reason spencer is “unenthusiastic” in that opening scene is bc they were filming in Canada in the winter. She couldn’t use to much air I guess because then the camera would pick up her breath (wouldn’t really match with the fact the scene takes place at the end of August)
It’s crazy how the actress that played Allison was the only teenager. But she still seemed to hold her own with her costars. 👏🏾👏🏾
Avatar the Last Airbender Series was aimed at younger people... and it was far from dumb; at least it was morally sound and progressive! haha and had a solid plot... and didn't mainly focus on love triangles but real world problems like war, good vs. evil and the lack of a solid line between the two... etc...

The first season was actually not that bad as it stayed closer to the book. Yeah, it was dumb, but at least it didn’t try to be anything more than that. But then it just went on for so long and got unnecessarily crazy and complicated and tried to be clever only to fall flat on its face.

My mom and sister watched Pretty Little Liars but I haven't seen so much as the first episode. I don't care about spoilers; If Alex Meyers posts a video about watching paint dry, I'm going to watch. From my mom and sister, all I know is someone called "A" pretends to die and then toys with an entire town of people like a Puppeteer with a marionette. Everything gets about as confusing as Lost, which I did watch all 6 seasons of, repeatedly, hoping I missed all the non-existent answers to the questions.
So this show started off with a high schooler having sex with an adult who ends up being her teacher? Wtf is wrong with the writers? This is sick and disturbing.

My older sister watched it, so I know some stuff. This show would never work today. Apparently, the teacher guy knew Aria's age from the beginning, and moved there to gather info on Aria and her friends. She finds out a lot later, after she's had a serious relationship with him, and freaks, like any sensible person would. She still marries him in the end, though! WTF?!
What the fuck is this show logic
Alexis Ford he was writing a book about the girls and Alison as he dated Alison before Aria. He later falls in love with Aria. When Aria finds out about this she's obviously mad and stays away from him. Then she forgives him because like 5 episodes? Later A is tracking them and Ezra tracks A to the girls A tries to shoot one of the girls but Ezra jumps in front of the bullet to save them. Then survives and so they get back together for a little while until Aria moves away for college. 5 years later A is obviously back and so it begins AGAIN! Ezra and Aria meet fall in love again and get married. (Ezra is the name of the guy.) Yeah okay so writing this made my mind think and WOW! They USED to be my favourite ship.
That storyline was one of the worst things about the show and that's saying something. He ended up dating 2 16 year old's, one of which was his student and he knew her age and seduced her to find out about the other girls disappearance for a book deal. Him being this shady would have been fine if they ultimately portrayed him as a bad guy, but nope the writers decided to romanticise this whole thing and act like him getting with a student was fine because it was true love.
If you had seen the show from the beginning to the end, you would have known why. For Aria, her feelings overpowered her logic

The evil twin thing would've been pretty awesome hadn't they thrown this card like, 3 times before on the show already. Also they should've connected her to the plot from the beginning. THey literally went the worst possible route execution wise.
The funny thing is, as a brazillian north american shows watcher, I really believed 16yo north americans went to bars (as Aria did on the pilot), randomly helped strangers moving in (as Emily did with Maya) and played the architect by redesigning their barns (as Spencer)

tbh Aria's whole "I'm back from Europe!" thing was the most relatable thing about this show to me.
I started watching this show right after I moved back from living in Europe for six years.
SPOILER ALERT!!! Just a point, we find out in season 5 that Spencer was addicted to prescription drugs and she had an argument with Alison the night she disappeared, as Ali found out Spencer was taking the drugs, which resulted in Spencer nearly hitting Alison over the head with a shovel. (Ali had also blackmailed Spencer into telling her sister that she had kissed her then boyfriend) Spencer and Ali have never really got on as well as the other girls, so there was always tension between them. That explains why Spencer wasnt too worried about Alisons disappearance at the time because she was a mess, and Spencer was never close with Alison

Tbh i dont totally hate PLL and like most shows it gets better than the first episode which you focused on. My problem with the show is that they stretched it out for way too long. Despite some plotholes and unrealistic teen bullshit and cringey dialog and an inappropriate teacher-student relationship... wow actually i forgot where I was going with this. My point is PLL is an alright show but it should have ended after the first 3 or 4 seasons instead of being stretched out to 7 and given the dumbest ending to any show since how i met your mother.

dianaraffael Never mix cheap teen drama with the mystery genre. It's never a good idea. Wait now that I'm thinking about it, mixing television and the mystery genre is not really a good idea to begin with. A story that revolved around the solving of one (or a couple of) mystery ends/loses all interest when the mystery that launched the show is solved. However a tv show (most of the time of course) is not supposed to end. It will keep going as long as there's an audience for it. I'm sure 80% of the tv shows people watch today do not have a definitive ending. But add to that problem the mystery genre and the problem becomes even more obvious. Coherence, good writing will always be sacrified for the sake of longetivity.
And 3 or 4 seasons might already be too much. I mean there's like at least 20 episodes in each season of PLL. 60-80 episodes on a whodunnit style concept is already ridiculous. With 3 or 4 seasons, even with interesting subplots, it will still feel like they're milking it and the show is bound to create convoluted twists and storyline. Broadchurch only has 8 episodes per seasons and it already feels like the concept is being stretched out.
