I don't understand why they don't just put all the characters in college/uni and make them in their 20's, then all their antics and scandals can at least be..... legal
More shows need to be set in college in my opinion 1) actually getting away with older actors bc the characters are adults 2) things are actually legal and sex scenes aren’t as weird bc they aren’t underaged 3)it still has the nice school feel just older 4)you can still pertain to teen audiences but also reach and older audience too bc the characters are closer to their age 5)way more freedoms 6)still relatable bc its still school 7) you could also focus on the characters interests more bc there would be school majors and job opportunities 8) people wouldn’t be sexualizing underage characters
@@meeieio I think the target audience is middle and high schoolers and I just don't think those kids find college as interesting. Theres not as much in the collective mind of what college "looks like", like there is with high school. Middle schoolers romanticize high school a million times more than high schoolers romanticize college
plot twists should be good enough to make you want to reread/ rewatch it to see if you could look back on the clues and foreshadowing. half the fun is trying to figure it out while you’re consuming it and going back knowing the twist.
Yeah, because then you start going back to find the crumbs that were already there. Then you go OOOOH NOW IT ALL MAKES SENSE. I mean sure, twists we didn't see coming can be done well, but I feel like a lot of writers misinterpret it as "the audience can never know".
“I dropped out in the 4th grade, to run drugs, to support my nana” Archie: “that means you don’t know the triumphs and defeats, the epic highs and lows of high school football” broooooo that’s probably the funniest line in the show. Like I know it hurt him to say them lines 😂 💀
I'll never understand how predators can be so obvious and vocal with their inappropriate and dangerous attraction to teenagers and not end up getting caught by law inforcement
@@luh.4968 Honestly? Because as a society people collectively decided that the onus will always be on the victim to protect themself because predators gonna predate. People always say what they'd do if they ever "saw that" in real life but they see the shit every day, it just doesn't personally affect them. Then when it does they're the first assface on the news saying "There were no signs, [the predator] seemed so normal".
the way they tried to sell alice cooper as being undercover for the fbi to investigate the cult but never noticed that her own ex-husband was a serial killer is so funny to me
Watching Riverdale feels like when you fell on the trampoline and couldn't get up because the other kids wouldn't stop jumping and give you a chance to regain your equilibrium.
In case you haven’t noticed, this show is weird. It’s a weirdo. It doesn’t fit in. And it doesn’t want to fit in. Have you ever seen this show have a cohesive plot? That’s weird. But now we have a video explaining the weirdness.
the fact that cole literally refused to take part in a scene is a testament to just how little they care, like what are ya gonna do, fire me? please do 😐
@@codyrm86well, they do have contracts that lock them in for multiply seasons(and the notoriety of this show could be helpful for their careers, so that could be another reason), but I see what you mean.

The hypersexualization of underage characters is very scary. I felt sick after you explained the sexualization of Archie’s character. With how many horror stories come from Hollyweird all the time, it makes me very uneasy. The idea of an old director using these young actors with dreams of a career to fulfill his own fantasy is infuriating.
It also makes everything so unrealistic. Especially considering jughead actually being aromantic/asexual... while the entire show is overly romanticised and oversexualised.
Its actually so disgusting and incredibly creepy. Like- I'm 16 not 25. Just set it in college than it taking place in high school. What is Hollywood's obsession with high school.
@@princessmanitari4993 I'd love that kind of representation. Being on the ace spectrum myself it would have been nice to see it but oh well they just couldnt do that I guess.
the fact that an entire season was based off of cole sprouse deciding he didnt want to get cold at 4am one morning and just refusing to do the job hes paid for is actually the funniest shit ive heard all week.
Jughead was suposed to be în that scene în the Woods with betty veronica and archie. The actor ( cole) didnt want to be naked în the forest at 4 am for that scene so they filmed it without him. So they made the whole season about how betty archi and veronica might have killed jughead. They did that based on that scene where Cole didnt want to be in :)))
I mean, any other job you'd be fired but he is/was a huge draw for the show so they obviously wouldn't. Surprised he didn't refuse the musical episodes tbh.
in American teen dramas there seems to always be a main male character who's biggest life choice is music vs sport, and that's how you know you're setting yourself up for a rough time
There's a thing that Betty does so often that I had to name it: the Bettyrogation. This is when Betty goes to visit someone she suspects to be a murderer, often trespassing, always alone, to harangue the suspect with accusations of murder. This alerts the suspect to danger, and since they're alone, even if the suspect were to confess it would accomplish nothing. Somehow Betty never gets murdered.
i totally, totally feel you abt that whole hard boiled, 3 pack a day, coffee stained, intense city detective thing her character does it’s so weird. if my 17 year old niece came to me with that i would just laugh in her face…even if i _was_ an organ harvesting cult leader abt to take off in a rocket ship like a clearance rack Evil Knievel. I wouldn’t take her seriously, she’s a kid. but i was thinking…what abt _Betterogation_ instead?
I always loved how Archie tried to sympathize with homeless Jughead because of his struggles of having to choose between being a football star or musician heartthrob
The surreal thing about the "I'm a weirdo" is Cole Sprouse genuinely trying to deliver it with a straight face, in a way that is as close to natural as it is possible for such a line, as if good acting could save it?
tbh, he almost pulled it off. it’s still dumb BUT for me it looked like the character knew that he sounded ridiculous and kind of intended for it to happen as to be less insecure in front of the other. anyhow. he tried, pure soul
my favorite part of that clip is watching him struggle so hard to keep serious and deliver this somehow, it’s almost inspiring lol of course he can’t do it because no one can, but watching him try is kind of amazing
I think the worst thing about Archie being sexualized so much is that KJ Apa was the only one who was actually a teenager when he started filming. He was 19, which is still very young, especially for someone whose entire role is to walk around shirtless and kiss older women.
I love you for this, this, exactly. People discount the immaturity of older teenagers CONSTANTLY, and it completely takes away from how immature and impressionable even they are. The switch of maturity doesn't flip when you hit 17,18,19,20 it takes time and life experience to develop and im very sad that this was part of HIS first moments of adult life experience!
Maybe Roberto, like the rest of us, should have just written his kinky fanfic and posted it on AO3 instead, and tagged it appropriately. Would have saved a lot of time and money.
@@katevgrady I mean I got confused by the "like us" part cause I'm pretty sure OPs fanfic isn't published but if thex meant it like you're saying then I agree.
when they announced jughead's 'death' I thought it was one of 2 possibilities: 1. shock value 2. cole sprouse had finally acted on his disdain for the writing and didn't want to be in the show anymore.
It was actually so sweet to see the actor who plays Hermione sincerely trying to help a stranger, especially through something like Cameo, which I have always viewed as something pretty shallow actors use as a side hustle. It was pretty touching, which was the last emotion I expected to feel while watching a fucking * Riverdale * video essay.
When I read this comment I hadn't gotten to that part yet and I had also forgotten there's a character called Hermione in the series so I was sitting here like: "Bro got Emma Watson in his video, wutwhy? @_@"
I met her on a fanexpo back in 2019 (I was a hardcore fan before shit hit the fan, also I was 13-14 LMAO) and she was SOOO lovely. Like she listened to me, was so patient when I struggled with English, and was just over all amazing! I honestly felt so bad cause it was her, Natalie Bolt (Cheryl’s mom, who is also incredible) and Madeline, and everyone was lining up to Madeline and Marisol and Natalie were just sitting there 😭🤚🏼
Weirdos make great superheroes. I love weirdos. The Hulk, early nerdy Spider-Man, Nightcrawler, etc. Riverdale isn’t weird. It’s like the kid who wanted to be cool from school who didn’t grow up and got a job for free for writing and pushed his fantasies as stories.
Yessss…these writers and creators need to stop making “teen shows with adult scenarios” (and casting adults to play teens). It’s misleading, confusing, and uncomfortable.
Yes! and even if having adults it’s the best option for various reasons (working hours, protect children, etc.) DON’T put them in all of this hyper sexual situations, especially the teacher-student trope it’s disgusting
That's why I liked The Order as much as it's not like, an amazing show, it's so much easier and fun to watch because it's set at a college but otherwise it's like a classic CW type show. Unfortunately it got cancelled by Netflix after 2 seasons though. Just make them college students if you want them to have fun sexy times and party a lot!
@Booper Dooper She's driven out of town because we're talking about a she. When the teacher is a he, it's often made into a "love" story because older men preying on girls and younger women has always been normalized as even the first example you thought of shows.
The fact that the “there is no time travel” line at 2:04:11 aged so poorly by the time I’m watching this video is making me laugh uncontrollably because I swear Roberto saw this video and said “I can fix that!”
Ok but can we talk about how disturbing it is that a grown man is literally writing out his sex fantasies through underage teenage characters. Red flags all around...that dude's got issues, to say the least.
@@heinoustentacles5719 This. I doubt the dude wants to sexualize underage teens anymore than he really cares about long-lost relatives, multiple criminal organizations, cults, incest, or having a serial killer alter ego. He's just throwing eDgY ideas at the wall and seeing what sticks.
I wonder what the writers' room for Riverdale looks like. I have a few ideas: - Roberto is basically a tyrannical dictator who throws a tantrum whenever someone suggests that making Archie an erotic cheesemaker is not a good idea. - The writer's room is a barren wasteland because they're all at home, binging other shows, and Roberto is left the sole writer. - The writer's room is actually where all the discarded pages of manuscript go from other shows, and the writers just pick five pages and mash them together. - Roberto is a self learning AI experiment gone horribly wrong. - Everyone is smoking pot and/or crack.
Or maybe there is no writers' room and the entirety of Riverdale was based off Roberto's dream journal, because at this point that the only thing that would explain that mess of a plot for me tbh
I've done a lot of writing while smoking pot, and my writing *improves* because I'm not as hung up second-guessing myself, so I don't think it's that one. xD

Hal Cooper's eyes were blue until about 2-3 episodes before his reveal as the black hood. It's not a theory that the writers didn't know who the killer was, it's undeniably 100% true.
That makes sense. Pop was like "The grim reaper had come to riverdale" or whatever. Then it's just fucking Hal. I loved this show and didn't question a lot of these flaws but that even got me.
I always wondered about his eyes...didn't seem to match the black hood, or if it did, why didn't Archie notice?. Also, didn't Hermione offer a mil reward for the capture of the black hood? So shouldn't Betty have received that?
It isn't just that, the dinner shooting scene had a lot of things changed in the beginning of season 2 just for the story to continue on from the last episode of season 1.
Riverdale is a show that is literally just interesting to look at. It's full of aesthetically pleasing people dressed in pretty clothes. Even watching the scenes compiled in this video, I found myself mesmerized by (and yearning for) Toni's and Veronica's wardrobe. And the same could be said for Pretty Little Liars. That's all it is. Eye candy.
it's nice to watch for an adult (in the way you mean) but shows like this and Teen Wolf / Beverly Hills 90210 are massively detrimental to actual high school kids. Low income kids who can't afford 27 different sweaters and matching pants and skirts. Where everyone lives in a clean 2 storey home and has a shower and breakfast and clean clothes every morning. Kids with full make-up (bought how? min wage after school jobs are where?), flawless skin, perfect hair and bodies, tons of sexually attractive people and opportunities. Life isn't like Clueless. For young people to watch this and make negative comparisons to their real life it must be so depressing.

The part about young people liking riverdale only because of ship culture really hits home for me since I had such a encounter a couple of years back, I once told a friend of mine that I knew of riverdale and later when I told them I was Bi they almost immediately sent me two pictures of (I think jughead and Archie) and asked me who I thought was “hotter” like they never asked me anything about what I thought OF the show just who I found more attractive, which I feel says a lot about the culture around the show.
Obsessive shippers are just sad people. They don't care about good story, characters, acting, writing or anything but whether 2 people in a film, book, show or game will fuck.
@@violetlavi2207 How about this: the _obsessive_ shippers are the malignant tumor. My favorite thing about the first season is that Archie thought he was in highschool musical and trying desperately to have a Troy storyline while the actual storyline kept to the murder mystery. I wish they had kept Archie trying to be a Disney channel movie while Regan era horror unfolds around him. It's really funny.
This comment destroyed me lmao. Honestly the WHOLE show should’ve been the Archie cast continuing to be their iconic archetypes while the plot descended into horror and madness
"The Blossoms and The Coopers are related by blood which makes Jason and Polly's relationship fully incestuous." *"Meanwhile, does Archie have what it takes to get into the fancy music school???"*

I feel bad for the cast. It's clear that they like working with each other and are friends, but hate being on the show because of it's terrible character writing.

What also really sucks for Jughead's sexuality erasure, is that asexual doesn't mean sex repulsed. Some asexual will very happily have sex with their partner, for their partner. Just because they don't experience sexual attraction doesn't mean they won't have sex full stop. Legitimately, all it would have taken is a conversation or even a nod that Jughead is fine with having sex with his partners, since he is romantically attached. That's it. It showed Roberto either was just lazy, probably, or he legitmately doesn't understand asexuals.
People think asexual means aromantic AND sex repulsed. I mean... Show me a person who never had sex with their partner while they weren't in the mood, but the partner was. It's really not that difficult to imagine. (Just that part of the experience, though. I'm not pretending to understand the asexual experience because I had sex with my partner for their pleasure when I wasn't in the mood)
Holy shit, did I just find out that I’m asexual? I dated a woman for a while and I was more than happy to have sex with her because I just loved knowing she was enjoying it, but I always found it physically clunky and awkward, and I was looking forward to the kiss afterwards and then some hand-holding 😂 I figured it was my fun combo of autism and sexual trauma but maybe sex just isn’t my cup of tea!

The entire plot of season 4 happened specifically because Cole just refused to shoot the scene where everyone was naked and throwing their clothes into the fire. He was just an absolute Chad who said 'what are you gonna do, fire me? It's cold as hell and I'm not shooting that scene. Figure something out' and they did because who else is going to willingly sign up as a main cast member of Riverdale after the fever dream that was the entire gargoyle king storyline?
It's 100% Roberto and the crappy writers that are the ones ruining it. The film crew actually did a good job. The content they are filming is stupid but they make it look good. Like you mentioned, the visuals are great. The actors are attractive and I feel like a lot of them actually are good actors despite the content they are given to work with. I like them in other projects they are in and they are charismatic enough to carry the lame content the writers come up with repeatedly. It feels like I'm watching a game show where they take bad writing to see how well the actors can make it work and how far they can push the bad writing before they get the actor so annoyed they just throw out the script and quit.
I don't know about that acting part. Like yeah, the script is awful and the actors have shit dialogue to work with but even if the writing was stellar, I don't think we'd be getting amazing performances out of most of them. They're definitely CW level actors.

What really sucks is that the longer the cast stays on the show, the more notorious they're going to get for playing that type of character until they're typecast as a trashy CW character.
As someone that was a not-like-other-girls "tragic author" type person in middle/high school, I feel like Jughead's narration could be a pretty accurate representation of a teenager convinced they're really good at writing deep, dark drama. It could have been funny if the writers weren't also convinced they were good at writing deep, dark drama...
are you kidding me??? The whole "Jughead is going to die" thing was because they improvised because an actor refused to shoot the scene???? this is next level, this is "I didn't even get out of bed today" level of LAZY
I respectfully disagree because of something your probably not thinking about. They were disregarding their actors comfort when they could have done this is other ways like indoors or on even just a less cold day or earlier so its warmer, even just putting them by a fire or giving them blankets. Like he dosen't act on this show for fun and they want him to strip naked in the freezing woods for no reason when they could film on a better day. Like why did it need to be 3 am on that day that was "Particularly cold". I feel like he had the right to refuse to shoot that day. He might get paid alot but it's still a job and an employer is still asking him to freeze in the woods nearly naked and it's not like he can quit without getting sued. Remember directors nearly always do scenes multiple times ontop of failed takes it's not usually infact almost never one good take and there done. Plus they would probably be rushed on set because they would be losing the lighting they wanted. You would probably refuse too lol

The writer will only have the experience they learned from other media prejudiced media, so those tropes will come up over and over again. Like, the fact that Kevin was cruising for sex from the age of 16 in the woods? Made me fucking howl. The writers genuinely think gay guys still have to run around in the woods like it's the 80's in the Midwest. If a real gay guy was knocking around the set or empowered to make any calls over the script, he probably would've vetoed that in favour of awkward car hook-ups or meeting up at someone's house, because that's what most gay teens do these days- a lot like straight teens. But there wasn't and so we end up with this cartoonish character of Kevin, who looks, acts and sounds like the 'sassy gay friend' or uwu fanfic characterisation of a gay guy that all these women thought they were going to tame and domesticate as a 'gay bestie' at college, and the male writers worried were going to hit on them.
@@darthzaida1881 Roberto, the showrunner, is gay tho. Honestly I think he suffers from the same issue Ryan Murphy had: favoring their beloved straight jock with a heart of gold (see Finn, Sam, Archie, etc). I don't know if it's because that's the kind of guy they are attracted to or they simply love that archetype but its something.
Yeah it is also queerbaiting- trying to attract a queer audience by appearing queer but not rejecting a homophobic audience by not really engaging in is For example putting the fake lesbian kiss in the trailer hinting at an open queer relationship in the center of the plot, having queer sidekicks whose only characteristic is being gay- Betty's best friend and not showing queer scenes to the same extent as straight ones
@@rociohernandez3077 Oh, wow, shut me I up! I had no idea, I guess Roberto is just so bad at writing gay people he had me thinking he wasn't. What a talent.
The thing is, that could work. Internalized and structured(?) homophobia is a thing and specially gay people doesn't notice how they're being somewhat homophobic themselves, because sometimes it's something that's so common on our society that we don't see the problematics of it. So, if the show actually talked about this, it could be a great way to show how homophobia is something so rooted in our society. Cheryl could learn from Toni or any other gay character that she shouldn't do or say somethings. That could even teach the audience how not to act. But nah, she's just a jerk
@@nattyism she surely does radiate lesbian energy (and I'm a lesbian myself), but her being lesbian doesn't have any major affect on her character, nor does her relationship with Toni or their breakups. It's almost like is just there to fill a checklist, because I can be totally erased and doesn't matter at all to the show or to the characters.
@Bille Nye The Russian Spy I am not sure, but as long as I'm aware, she only has romantic interest in women. She mentions a girl in her past that her mom took away from her, she was obsessed with Josie, and she got involved with Toni. I don't recall her mentioning having anything for a guy before, though, we are talking about 4 seasons with 12-23 episodes each, so maybe there's some information that I don't remember. I am sure that Toni is bi, but I am not sure about Cheryl's sexuality.
@Bille Nye The Russian Spy oh, you're right! I totally forgot about this, I guess because it came out of nowhere and it ended up being completely pointless, either way, you're welcome :D
Wait let me get this straight, the guy that made a screenplay so offensive that the Archie comic guys sent him a cease and desist so his screenplay wouldn't be shown ended up being hired to write for Netflix a show based on the Archie comics... if that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about the show 😂
I just have to imagine how Arcgies Actor was forced to break into the writers room to stop the director from casting the guy who played Dhalmer in the Dhalmer show, because he found out what Roberto might want to do with him...
This show is basically run on a team of some bad wattpad writers, I WOULDNT be surprised if most of their ideas came from scouring the worst fanfics to save the dead show
At a certain point, Cheryl's actress said that a break up between Cheryl and Toni could break Cheryl entirely and most likely make her worse and feeling lost or something like this. Then we cut to them actually breaking up about 2 or 3 times now without any consequences on them or their relationship. So yeah, the actress made more sense than the actual writers.
Jughead has become the gold standard of a character having their asexuality erased so much that I've heard other characters who've had their asexuality erased referred to as being 'Jugheaded'
that's kinda funny given he was more recently revealed as ace since it was a reboot comic continuity. but ig w the popularity of riverdale the ace identity in the comics was more well known, what other shows has this happened in?
I remember when I first watched the show, a friend told me about Jughead's asexuality, so I thought,"Oh okay it's an adaptation not all things were going to make the screen." Although it would've been interesting to see an asexual character, because Hollywood ignores them, despite how "woke" they pretend to be Hollywood ignores other groups of people who are asexual, pansexual, nonbinary, polyamorous, and much more of different varieties of people who deserve proper representation.
Have I ever watched Riverdale? No. Have I ever expressed interest in watching Riverdale? No. Did I sit uninterrupted through the entire video instead of finishing my homework? Yes.
I remember the hype when the first season came out, but once season 2 came out I heard no mention of the show again , and watched it for myself just recently and I’ll be honest season 1 and 2 were great but the other seasons had so much going on I couldn’t keep up season 6 I remember passing out and waking up and hearing they have super powers and was beyond confused season 7 came around and it was ok but the ending was not what I was expecting, I expected it to end with jughead sitting in the diner writing and Archie Betty and Veronica come in like “hey jug you finish your story??” But no
I feel so bad for the actors on riverdale. They are actually all very talented but have to deal with this shit. It's so sad. Also you forgot bad dialogue such as: "daddy", "daddykins", "archiekins", "TT", and "endgame"
The “bad dialogue” is meant to be ridiculous and over the top though. I don’t understand how this show has been on for six seasons now and people still talk about the “cringy dialogue” as if it’s not written like that on purpose. The writers on in on the joke. They’ve even given interviews talking about how they’ve laughed about how ridiculous they’ve taken things and how laughable certain things like Edgar and his rocket were. It’s the viewers that seem to be in the dark here.
@@TanyaBaxter It's gotten to the point where it gets tiring for even the cast. If this is supposed to be a satire, then the writers really don't get what it actually is. They just think they're doing something like it, but they brought up serious topics in the show season after season without even exploring in a tasteful or a smart way it like how a satire would.
@@dream-lh4pc There are viewers that see it though and I think the fact that so many people consistently talk about the “cringy dialogue” and outrageous storylines as proof that the show has jumped the shark or is “the worst on television!!!” shows that they are picking up on the elements that make it so but not realizing how. They are looking at it from the wrong angle, but they have the right pieces.
@@fsantos4199 Eh. Fair enough. I genuinely enjoy the show and am invested in it more than just finding it amusing but I still stand by the fact that the majority of people take it too seriously.
Poor guy. They should have just let him be the drummer or something without forcing him to sing if they still wanted him to participate in these awful musicals.
You forget about those Disney channel collars were they would sing old Disney movie songs like “a dream is a wish your heart makes” or friends for change
The secret is, Riverdale is a Soap-Opera. It has no plot, because it is a soap-opera. Everyone has a secret twin for no reason, because it is a soap-opera.
UK AND Australian soap operas have writers that obviously care about plot, character realism and sensitivities of serious subject matters they portray even if they're fast food television.
Roberto must have blackmail material on a couple of studio heads. That's the only explanation I can think of for why he keeps getting all these chances to screw up all these properties.
riverdale season 6 takes place ten years into the future. Betty becomes an international assassin. Archie converts to orthodoxy and joins a monastery in Greece. Veronica becomes the first latina president of the usa and commits girlboss war crimes. Kevin has not yet shown a single sign that might indicate he has a personality. Jughead remains a heterosexual.
Okay but it's pretty hilarious to know that Cole Sprouse just straight up refused to do a lot of things on set, and it ended up affecting the plot in a major way. He's stuck in a contract but still has enough leverage to have boundaries - or maybe growing up a child star, he was forced to find out on his own that he _can_ say no to shit.

Full brag: my hometown WAS Riverdale (sorta). As in, it was the place where some of it was filmed. Our drive-in. Our highschool (for the bad high school). Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe, a mere drive away in a neighbouring town. I remember the huge hype, how we all excitedly thought, "Wow, we're going to have a show filmed here! People may even hear about it, maybe! How cool is that?" The fact that it became one of the most famously bad shows of all time makes me, honestly, so very very proud. I couldn't be more delighted. Why have an alright show making small waves for the brief time a match stays lit, when you could have a garbage fire that will burn your town into TV history forever?
Lmao I also live near one of the Riverdale film locations and I remember going "aw,,,, I live near that?" Somewhat unrelated but a filming location for something for Netflix was filmed within view of my highscool and I took a picture with the set in the background.

I don't understand why they don't just put all the characters in college/uni and make them in their 20's, then all their antics and scandals can at least be..... legal
More shows need to be set in college in my opinion
1) actually getting away with older actors bc the characters are adults
2) things are actually legal and sex scenes aren’t as weird bc they aren’t underaged
3)it still has the nice school feel just older
4)you can still pertain to teen audiences but also reach and older audience too bc the characters are closer to their age
5)way more freedoms
6)still relatable bc its still school
7) you could also focus on the characters interests more bc there would be school majors and job opportunities
8) people wouldn’t be sexualizing underage characters

Yeah, because then you start going back to find the crumbs that were already there. Then you go OOOOH NOW IT ALL MAKES SENSE. I mean sure, twists we didn't see coming can be done well, but I feel like a lot of writers misinterpret it as "the audience can never know".

I wonder what the writers' room for Riverdale looks like. I have a few ideas:
- Roberto is basically a tyrannical dictator who throws a tantrum whenever someone suggests that making Archie an erotic cheesemaker is not a good idea.
Or maybe there is no writers' room and the entirety of Riverdale was based off Roberto's dream journal, because at this point that the only thing that would explain that mess of a plot for me tbh

it's nice to watch for an adult (in the way you mean) but shows like this and Teen Wolf / Beverly Hills 90210 are massively detrimental to actual high school kids. Kids with full make-up (bought how? min wage after school jobs are where?), flawless skin, perfect hair and bodies, tons of sexually attractive people and opportunities. Life isn't like Clueless.

I think it's funny that Veronica calls her dad "Daddykins" and Archie "Archie-kins". There's some subtext on that relationship dynamic...
Ewww
I- oop
In defense of the comics, it's actually used as a running gag to show off how much of a spoiled brat and shallow person Veronica is, her friends even use the term to mock her for being out of touch with reality.
Which they should've dropped in the show, like never touched if they can't even write it cohesively in the plot even as a throwaway line.🤢
I totally agree with this. Ugh! I can think of better nicknames for Archie. Arch, A or Red. But Archiekins? Gross! Barf!
That's lifted right from the comics.
honestly, kudos to Cami Mendes for delivering these god-awful lines her character gets all the fucking time with a straight face and some actual acting. I really don't know how she does it
Every time she says Daddy I die inside a little.
@@tunafish5462 same
I hope the money is worth it but uhh if I were her once this show (if ever) is over I’d cover it up so quick LMAO
@@NoName-dx1no She'd probably make like Robert Pattinson and bash the show every chance she gets. Lili already has a head start on that
I’m sure as someone employed on the show, she is fully aware, unlike the majority of the audience seem to be after all these years, that the show is camp and the lines are meant to be ridiculous and the whole point is that they are to be delivered with full sincerity.
Let’s all take solace in the fact that Archie Comics lost rights to the Sonic the Hedgehog comics otherwise Dr Eggman would’ve taken over Riverdale and Archie would have to stop him via collecting the Chaos Emeralds.
I can't believe Riverdale is both gay AND homophobic.
I usually see this joke on Twitter, but fuck, here is real
That's what happens when people try to tell a story that isn't theirs without consulting the community they're talking about. The writers end up using their own limited understanding, which is often also prejudiced if they're dealing with a marginalised group.
Yeah it is also queerbaiting- trying to attract a queer audience by appearing queer but not rejecting a homophobic audience by not really engaging in is
For example putting the fake lesbian kiss in the trailer hinting at an open queer relationship in the center of the plot, having queer sidekicks whose only characteristic is being gay- Betty's best friend and not showing queer scenes to the same extent as straight ones
@@rociohernandez3077 Oh, wow, shut me I up! I had no idea, I guess Roberto is just so bad at writing gay people he had me thinking he wasn't. What a talent.
Cheryl is not only the show's signature lesbian, she's also the show's homophobe.
That's such a bizarre combination of character traits.
But nah, she's just a jerk
ive seen edits of cheryl and she radiates lesbian energy and this is coming from a lesbian

@@hopekeeley2122 I'm sad, you're sad, It's sad.
This show is basically run on a team of some bad wattpad writers, I WOULDNT be surprised if most of their ideas came from scouring the worst fanfics to save the dead show
To be fair there are fanfics with a better plot than riverdale
Lol that actually makes so much sense! But like, they are reading the worst fanfics
@@nessyness5447 even the average MHA fic is better than Riverdale. At least fanfics know exactly what they are and roll with it.

@@alilordoftheskies5079 not even the first weird fanfic I've heard of where a fan favorite character laid an egg
The actors themselves are better writers than the writers ......SHAME
At a certain point, Cheryl's actress said that a break up between Cheryl and Toni could break Cheryl entirely and most likely make her worse and feeling lost or something like this. Then we cut to them actually breaking up about 2 or 3 times now without any consequences on them or their relationship. So yeah, the actress made more sense than the actual writers.
@loveutill theendoftimes it's very sad honestly
Jughead has become the gold standard of a character having their asexuality erased so much that I've heard other characters who've had their asexuality erased referred to as being 'Jugheaded'
I had forget that he was/is ace. What this show did to me?!?!! 😭😭😭😭
that's kinda funny given he was more recently revealed as ace since it was a reboot comic continuity. but ig w the popularity of riverdale the ace identity in the comics was more well known, what other shows has this happened in?
I remember when I first watched the show, a friend told me about Jughead's asexuality, so I thought,"Oh okay it's an adaptation not all things were going to make the screen." Although it would've been interesting to see an asexual character, because Hollywood ignores them, despite how "woke" they pretend to be Hollywood ignores other groups of people who are asexual, pansexual, nonbinary, polyamorous, and much more of different varieties of people who deserve proper representation.

@@TanyaBaxter if the viewer can't understand what you are doing to the point where they can't even see the satire then you are just a bad writer
Cole really survived his whole "Disney child" time without singing, just to end up doing it in a Riverdale episode with bad sound editing
Poor guy. They should have just let him be the drummer or something without forcing him to sing if they still wanted him to participate in these awful musicals.
Actually he did sing. He and Dylan were both in a Disney Stars rendition of A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes.
@@anozyra I remember that video, but I think that both of them pretended to sing, they didn't actually do it? I'm not sure

The secret is, Riverdale is a Soap-Opera. It has no plot, because it is a soap-opera. Everyone has a secret twin for no reason, because it is a soap-opera.
that explains a lot my friend.
at least in my country soap-operas are good...
That's not an excuse, there are pretty good Novelas out there
UK AND Australian soap operas have writers that obviously care about plot, character realism and sensitivities of serious subject matters they portray even if they're fast food television.
It's still bad. Hell, wrestling story lines (which are basically Testosterone fueled soap operas) are better than some seasons of Riverdale.
“commits girlboss warcrimes” and “veronica lodge” in the same sentence is something i never knew i wanted to read
ay don't give them any ideas
This comment is liked by Riverdale writers... lol
This is sadly plausible.
I'm intrigued! What did he refuse to do?
@@kristencurtis7031 he refused to do the throwing jughead's beanie into the fire. He was supposed to be in it but he didn't wanna so it changed s4 plotline
@@kristencurtis7031 As was said above, he refused to get in his underwear (on a cold Canadian day!) for that scene, which made it seem like he was dead and the season was written largely around that idea. He also refused to sing in the first musical episode because he felt like the Jughead he played just wouldn't do that. I think it worked well in the episode and added some variety and flavour and conflict. Too bad they got him to sing just like all the others in later musical episodes.

The fact that it became one of the most famously bad shows of all time makes me, honestly, so very very proud. I couldn't be more delighted.
Why have an alright show making small waves for the brief time a match stays lit, when you could have a garbage fire that will burn your town into TV history forever?
