Have to respect the guy. He knows what he wants and understands that he’s making a film. It’s not a day shift at Wendy’s looking to your watch every ten minutes wanting to get home. That kind of outlook is poison to a film set I’d think.

Stop the fanboy crap. Fanboy's who kiss this guy's ass also kiss the ass of Nolan, Paul Thomas Anderson, Aronovksy and Kubrick. The only one on this list should be Kubrick. NOT f'n Fincher, man.

@@mightypr0fessional Yes I meant the artist and director Steve McQueen. He's one of the most talented directors working right now . Fincher is an "A type" person that comes off as a perfectionist. Anyone "obsessive" in any field will produce results. But Fincher is NOT an artist. He's a skilled technician and there's a big difference. I don't even think he writes stories. My personal opinion is all of his obsessions look the same and feel the same. It's just a craft we're witnessing. You can't put this guy alongside McQueen, Scorsese, Kurosawa, Tarkovsky, Kubrick, Niri Bilge Ceylan, Zyagintsev or even Lynne Ramsey. There's Just no comparison. Most of the ones I listed write their own work. Fincher's a populist in with a bleak, dark, green, blue toned approach. They all look like they could be Nine Inch Nail music videos. He feels like Christopher Nolan with a camera. And let's not get started with Tarantino. I'm curious, where are you from?

Well actually - that's only kinda true - but really as long as we did our job and made our day - it was great working on a Fincher set. There were jokes and it was awesome - but we had to never forget that we were also at work and we had to do our job and do our job well to stay employed. I preferred it to some of the more relaxed sets that I've worked on.

@@AlterCineYT I wouldn't call it perfection just getting actors to give him lots of options from 1 to 10 for each scene so in editing he can take a scene any way it needs to go.
I've seen directors push to get the actors to say the lines exactly like it was written as if the script is perfect. Narrative editors love this kind of director..., but their assistants hate it haha.

@@drknsss17 Also something Fincher said which was fascinating, was that he's actually looking for that small flaw from the actor. After doing the same take 15-20 times, he's looking for something that feels extremely natural for the person to be doing it that way - i.e, leans a certain way when sitting in their couch, that feels like it's their couch. Doing tons of takes to “get your money’s worth” is a bit over the top. If you hire the best actors, they’ll deliver in a few takes. His reasoning is a bit ridiculous. When you micro manage and exhaust actors like that, they tap out and no longer feel like meaningful and original creative contributors. If you have a seasoned pro actor having to do 17-20 takes, you either don’t know what you want, are trying to make a statement as a director or you are purposefully undermining them because you think that somehow translates into “better performances”
